Project 9-6-1 has let go Giant Brian Carothers from the show.
Chris Williams, the proram director, emailed me Saturday morning confirming the news I heard Friday afternoon, noting that his partners on the show Jefe and Shaffee will stay on for a “music intensive” morning show:
Just wanted to share the latest on the changes coming for Project 9-6-1. Brain’s contract expired in July and we were unable to agree on terms for an extension. I am confident that Brian will have success in whatever venture he pursues next. I am equally confident that Shaffee and Jefe continuing to host morning give us the best chance to grow ratings immediately moving forward. Project 9-6-1 is gearing up for life after the Atlanta Braves. A big part of this post baseball era is a recommitment to being Atlanta’s rock station 24/7. As we get back to our core value of playing music, Shaffee and Jefe are staying aboard to host a music driven morning drive program. This will continue to allow us to have live local morning personalities that are reflective of our rock fan’s lifestyle. They will provide continuity, personality, the left of center perspective that is uniquely Shaffee and the appropriate service elements for the morning audience like traffic, news sports and weather. The music intensive morning presentation begins Monday with the station going jockless all next week. Shaffee and Jefe are in Naples next week for Jefe’s wedding (Shaffee is his best man) and will return live the following week, Monday October 12th.
Bizarrely, Carothers emailed me a picture of Patrick Swayze but no comments at all. Did that mean he had “the time of my life”?
He and his partner Shaffee started two years ago. Their ratings weren’t bad but I guess in these budgetary times, unloading a salary means one less cost item on the ledger.

I absolutely HATED this show when they started – they were immature, rude and took nothing or no one seriously. I started listening again a couple of months ago when I got tired of all gab, no music on TRG. I really started to like listening to Brian, Shaffee and Jeffe – they had grown up some and seemed pretty cool and surprisingly intelligent. I hope they’re really not gone for good.

This seriously sucks, that was the main show I listened to in the mornings, I thought they were funny-which is what I want to hear in the mornings-humor-not political bashing which is all the Regular Guys are capable of. I listened to the project most of the day but the music is pretty stale with the same songs being played multiple times. I hope for the best for all the guys, Brian, Shaffee, El Jeffe and B*tch Boobs. Good Luck Guys, Atlanta radio isn’t too great and now it just got worse.

I can’t say I listened much — it was a pre-set, but for the most part I don’t like the station’s music. But I did listen to the podcasts while they were trying to get BitchBoobs laid, and that was pretty entertaining. I checked out a few others afterward, but nothing there to keep my attention. I do think El Jefe is a talented guy and will do well. Not sure about the rest. Brian and Shaffee struck me as hostile towards listeners and weren’t very relatable.

Thee other day Chip Caray said that the Braves “were moving on down the dial” (from 96.1 FM.) Do you have any information on where the Braves may next appear on the radio?
Also, do you know who will replace Giambi on the TV side? Chip Caray would be a good choice.

So they let that lard butt girl scout go! I remember about 6 months ago at Eastside station, he slapped one of the 21 yr old waitresses and called her a vulgar name, and then ran out of the place like a girl scout with his panties to his knees. What a yellow bellied coward. He’s lucky that he didn’t get the beating he was gonna get had he not ran. Hey fatso, if you’re reading this, maybe you can get a job as a girl scout leader! They should just drop all the DJs on the station and see how that works. Just have someone on to do traffic and any sort of critical breaking news and leave it at that. Seems to be where they’re headed anyway.

On the other side, I wish I could listen to those retards at The Regular Guys, South Side Queer and Larry “delusional” Wachs ruin the show on a daily basis.

This sucks! Jefe and the GOAT are awesome, but I cannot support Project 9-6-1 after doing this. What really blows is the only other option is TRG, aka funny impressions surrounded by Larry boring everyone. I will gladly listen to Shafee and Jefe while they are talking, but come the music portion I will certainly turn the channel.
The thing that gets me the most is Project 9-6-1 completely blows as a rock station as it is. They overplay songs and rarely play truly new and cutting edge music. A move to play more music is simply a move towards more mediocrity.

The show will severely be missed by me. The Shaffee and Jefe show may be almost as good if they keep the music to a minimum. But if they don’t, its going to be hard to determine when they will be talking and when they will be playing music, when at which time I will plug my ipod in.

I agree with many points mentioned here, namely:
Project 961 is a pretty crappy station that plays the same music over and over, and doesn’t play newer and/or heavier music (or if they do, its the same songs over and over)
and TRG suck, although Eric is tolerable
I miss The Buzz, it was not perfect, but better than Project

Giant Brian was the best part of the morning show, hands down, and I don’t give a sh!t what anyone else has typed on here. Shaffee is a funny guy, but Brian brought it out of him….otherwise Shaffee sounds like an ornery old man. And I truly believe that Jefe’s personality could fit inside a thimble. He has a good voice, but he tries WAY too hard…he’s only a 14 year old girl for goodness sake.
And the fact that Chris Williams says they’re going to a more “music intensive” morning show, what a bunch of bs. If I wanted to listen to non-stop music in the morning, I’d listen to my i-pod. I want to hear funny people talk about interesting topics for my 45 minute commute. Maybe I’ll try the regular guys tomorrow.

It was a long time coming. The jokes and skits were unfunny and painful to listen to. The show was entertainment for retards that could barely put together a coherent sentence when they called in. Good riddance.

It’s truly a sad day for Atlanta radio. I have only been in the metro area for two years, but I absolutely loved the “Giant Show” especially Giant Brian. I travel across the country and I would listen to the show on my iPhone in the mornings and download their podcasts. They were the best morning show I had ever listened to, hands down! I loved their “Interviews From Hell”, “Giant Five” and random commentary. It’s a shame that the Project let him go, now I have no interest in listening to their “music intensive” morning show, their music is repeated and stale, and you’ve most certainly lost a listener. I loved the format of the show and think it’s a HUGE mistake to cancel this show. BRING BACK THE GIANT SHOW!

The new morning show is so boring and has no energy or excitement. Dont get me wrong, i like Shaffee and El Jefe but Brian brought something special to the show. Everyone fed off his energy and made the show very enjoyable. I changed jobs and was unable to really listen to the show for about two months. I too listened to Giant Brian and loved his and Shaffee’s commentary…. Finally a station for guys where they could be immature smartasses, that wasnt revolving around some drama like the Bert show…. TRG does not interest me, nor does any other station have the same level of “guy” stuff available. Its a shame that Brain left, I do believe he made that show and made it so much fun to listen to… I love listening to Shaffe, but its a shame Brian wasnt brought back. I listened to this show because i knew I could always get in at least one good laugh before I got to work in the morning. I gave it a couple chances after Brian left (mostly because I didnt know he had left the show and thought he was just on vacation) but wont be listening anymore – El Jefe and Shaffee do not compliment eachother at all. El Jefe, go to an AM station if you want to rant on and on about your opinions about EVERYTHING. The show is not funny anymore. Best of luck to Brian and his family.

Stupidest thing 961 could’ve done. I cannot listed to the show without Brian. He made the other guys funny. Without him they are plain, common and boring.
Now My only choice is to listen to the Douchebags at the bert show (especially that fat one that thinks he’s edgy) or The boring regular guys complain about Obama or play the regular guy squares.
I think I’ll just start listening to NPR. If I’m going to be bored out of my skull I might as well be informed.
