‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 9: Bring it on down, Kandi!
That vaunted fight between Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes was much ado about… not much of anything.
NeNe seemed to pick the argument out of the stratosphere.
Here’s the background: Kandi became friends with Kim Zolciak. NeNe got oddly jealous about it and badmouthed Kandi’s music skills behind her back. Their relationship seemed okay at the Alter Ego shoot when Kandi directed NeNe on her photo. But then NeNe heard Kim wanted to do the “Tardy for the Party” song by herself and not with NeNe.
At Sheree Whitfield’s “independence” party at Door 44, a Midtown club, Kim (in crutches from the fall she had from the Alter Ego party in last week’s episode) breaks the news to NeNe that she wants to do the song on her own.
NeNe goes all passive aggressive. “I have no problem if you want to sing the song by yourself,” she said, when in fact she does have a problem with it. “My opinion is you can’t sell the song without me because of who I am, my personality, everything that has to do with me. More people will buy the song if I was on the song.”
She’s probably right but Kim isn’t pleased with NeNe’s implication. So when NeNe gives a fake “good luck” to her, Kim utters, “you’re just evil” and turns away. “Kim is like a dirty person,” NeNe said to the camera later, complaining that Kim changed her mind.
Lisa Wu Hartwell had warned Kandi to stay out of it. And Kandi tries. Oh, she tries. But naturally, NeNe comes up to her and tells her she doesn’t appreciate Kandi talking about her behind her back. (Is she?) “I don’t talk about you,” NeNe said. “I don’t even know you.” (We know she has badmouthed Kandi to the cameras, which I guess isn’t technically behind her back since she eventually saw it on the TV screen.)
Kandi, who has shown an impressive amount of equanimity throughout the series, finally gets angry, mostly because NeNe was getting peeved at her for no tangible reason.
“Bring it on down!” Kandi said. “Bring it on down! I’m going to stop before I blow up on your xxx.”
To the cameras, Kandi said, “NeNe knows how to push people’s buttons. She was gonig on about nothing.”
NeNe later tries to explain: “The argument between me and Kandi was bound to happen. She’s always looking at me strange. (huh? This really is high school, isn’t it?) If I say something, she tries to get smart.” Then she calls Kandi a “country bumpkin.”
The teases for next week’s show don’t address how this plays out but it is a true drama souffle.
In other “Housewives” plotlines:
-For her party, which she organized by herself, Sheree had a monstrous eight-foot tall portrait of herself made by Rossin. It’s a true monolithic ego stroke. A well-done ego stroke, true, but an ego stroke nonetheless.
-Lisa and Kandi do “the Pocketbook Monologues,” which is a black woman version of “The Vagina Monologues.” Kandi does a great job personifying a pregnant prostitute with HIV who was abused as a child.
-Kim and Big Poppa get back together. She still loves him and is upset he hasn’t divorced his wife yet. But she needs him as her ATM and goes on a shopping spree. (Jonathan Jaxson, her on-and-off publicist, told me earlier this week she is no longer with him. The bank is again closed.)

First season Anderson Cooper announced he was crazy about Nene. The comment blew up that bubble head of hers. I like Kandi. She’s talented, smart and fair. I used to like Lisa because she has brains and talent. Is her change of behavior scripted? Kim and Nene are pathethic. They know nothing, do nothing but shop and hit the party circuit. Yawn. And Sheree hawks herself as being successful? What has she ever done but marry a rich athlete? And she talks as badly about people as Nene, which is way more that what Kim does. As far as the kids, I feel sorry for all of them, except Kandi’s daughter.

This show is such a hoot. It’s the first reality show I’ve ever watched and these women make me laugh my a$$ off. I’m sure much of the drama is scripted, but NeNe’s popularity has suffered since she’s become so two-faced and such a troublemaker.
Sheree just might be the devil. Her high-self opinion is not supported by her actions, her personality, her looks or her “talent”. I laughed so hard that she had the… gaul …to have a fashion show without any clothes. Hilarious.
Kim: I want to see her without a wig! Please! Just give me that one thing. She’s a mess but I love how tender she is with her girls. I used to like Lisa, but she’s turned into a back-biter too. Pity. She was my favorite for a while. And now Kandi…like her a lot. She needs to have a come-to-Jesus with her mama. She shouldn’t have to choose between her mama and her man, her snarky mama needs to get a grip and support her good daughter, even if she is making a bad choice.

Couple things– to the guy who said black people need to stop ripping off creative works of whites– all I will say is, historically, it’s pretty much consistently been the other way around– like the way Chuck Berry successfully sued the Beach Boys for stealing his music for “surfing USA.” Second, Nene’s ghost writer, Denene Miller is actually a fabulously talented writer. I also recently saw her in my friend’s documentary about successful black marriages. I am disapointed that she has hooked up with Nene for this book. She is better than that. Third, I think Kandi does threaten the others. She has her own career that preceded the housewives franchise. She bought her house when she was 19, she said, and apparently has managed her money well. I heard that Kandi was being considered to replace Paula on American Idol. It’s a real shame that they picked Ellen Degeneres over her because she has undeniable talent and has proven she knows what it takes to create a hit with a pop pretender. I hope and trust that her agent is looking for her to get to a better place right now. Lastly, Nene, dial it back. For real, I hope you watch that episode and see what the rest of the world sees. It’s not about the ratings, it’s about what kind of human being you want to be.

I just want to know if anyone has noticed how scaled down Sheree’s “independence party” became once she had to pay for it herself? I”m just saying…It went from helicopters and poetry to her and her girls at a club….with a freakishly large portrait of herself. Nene is so obviously jealous of Kandi, it’s unreal. She doesn’t like Kim ,but can’t stand the fact that she has another friend and doesn’t need her. Is she still in high school? One last question: What qualifies a person as “elite” or a “socialite”? Nene and Sheree keep labeling themselves as such, but there’s nothing about either of them that supports that.

NeNe – I can’t believe that some people actually like NeNe last season. I have not like her from day one. She just totally load and obnoxious. Maybe her son is not going to school because of the grief he is getting from classmates. He seems like a nice young man, but his mother is an embarassment. He’s being embarrassed on national TV, by his mother, that can’t be good. Plus, the young man never seems to be happy. Actually no one at NeNe’s house seems to be happy. Sheree – Sheree needs to do something about her kids. I’m sure she takes decent care of them, but everything seems to be about her. I’m not sure how old her daughter is, but she needs to get those braid & beads out of her head and let her be a little more fashionable. I don’t like Sheree, not even a little bit, but she does have great fashion sense. She needs to share some of that with her kids. Neither of the kids are fashionable. Kim over does it with her girls, but at least you know that they are the center of her world. Sheree kids seems to be an after thought. They just don’t seem close. Don’t even get me started on the relationship with her oldest daughter. Candi’s mom should be proud, Candi is sooooo cool. I loved when she said that she did not drink, because she needs to be in control. More women need to think that way. I’ll watch the show if I remember, but last year, I never missed a show. Now, it’s just plain embarassing. I hope Lisa does not let them drag her down too. She seems to have a little class, but this season, it seems that she is stooping to neNe’s ghetto level. I think my favorite part of the show was Sheree not getting her seven figures from Bob. How dare she go around throwing money away on clothes and shoes and God knows what else. He should have to take care of his kids, but not her. She was just wasting his money. She needs to get a job to take care of herself, and for God’s sake, please do somthing about her daughter’s hair. I have watched this show on and off for some time now. Kandi is truly the exceptional lady in this drama misfit. Kandi seems to have herself financially established and seems grounded. I was very impressed with the fact that she says she has owned her modest home for a long time and is not trying to get bigger house to impress people.
Seems like these women are miserable in themselves and the self-esteem and confidence they portray are simply fronts for their misery. All of them except Kandi and Kim have been forced to move out of their homes.
NeNe is nothing. She was a tall loud mouth bully in high school and she still is. She never fought, just ran her mouth and ran away. I applaud Kandi for being a lady and walking away. Most of the time when people are jealous of you, they allow their jealousy to get the best of them and they show their true evilness. Nene you are evil in every sense of the word. YOU NEED JESUS!!!

I do not think it is a good idea to not patronize a business because it is associated with this show, however, I think it is good idea to not patronize a business who refers to her clients as trashy. I think it was in poor taste for the cake owner to call the show trashy…sometimes it is a good idea to keep your feelings to yourself.

The show is a disgrace to ALL women, especially African American women. Kim needs to get a job. Sheree needs to get over herself. Lisa can be sneaky at times. Ne Ne is alley, ghetto, and loud. Greg, Ne Ne’s husband seems like a good conservative guy. He should have chosen a woman with class to fit his personality. You can tell that he is embarrased by Ne Ne’s behavior at times. Khandi is a classy, talented, beautiful woman. How did she ever get mixed up in this mess? Ne Ne is jealous of Kandi and feels threatened because she’s got her own, and didn’t have to swing from a pole and nag a sugardaddy to support her. If anyone noticed, Khandi seemed to be the only one she wanted to pick on which tells me she’s always had a problem with her from day 1. And as far as being ghetto, Nene is the messiest 1 out the bunch. How dare her call Khandi ghetto! And the night of Sheree’s independence party when Nene blew up about not being on the song was just uncalled for. She should’ve handled like a grown woman, said ok and walked away. Instead she went off like the ignorant, immature, ghetto, no class having, back stabbing, broad that she is. Somebody give that hoe a reality check.

I think Nene is a sad hateful person. If she was offended that Kim didn’t ask her to be on the song thats fine but she had no right to insult her and then attack Khandi. It’s sad because all the other women have so much going for them yet, she the loudest one doing the least for herself. She made herself look like a fool the way she behaved at Sheree’s party, but at everyone got to see the type of person she really is!
