‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 9: Bring it on down, Kandi!

That vaunted fight between Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes was much ado about… not much of anything.

NeNe seemed to pick the argument out of the stratosphere.

Here’s the background: Kandi became friends with Kim Zolciak. NeNe got oddly jealous about it and badmouthed Kandi’s music skills behind her back. Their relationship seemed okay at the Alter Ego shoot when Kandi directed NeNe on her photo. But then NeNe heard Kim wanted to do the “Tardy for the Party” song by herself and not with NeNe.

At Sheree Whitfield’s “independence” party at Door 44, a Midtown club, Kim (in crutches from the fall she had from the Alter Ego party in last week’s episode) breaks the news to NeNe that she wants to do the song on her own.

NeNe goes all passive aggressive. “I have no problem if you want to sing the song by yourself,” she said, when in fact she does have a problem with it. “My opinion is you can’t sell the song without me because of who I am, my personality, everything that has to do with me. More people will buy the song if I was on the song.”

She’s probably right but Kim isn’t pleased with NeNe’s implication. So when NeNe gives a fake “good luck” to her, Kim utters, “you’re just evil” and turns away. “Kim is like a dirty person,” NeNe said to the camera later, complaining that Kim changed her mind.

Lisa Wu Hartwell had warned Kandi to stay out of it. And Kandi tries. Oh, she tries. But naturally, NeNe comes up to her and tells her she doesn’t appreciate Kandi talking about her behind her back. (Is she?) “I don’t talk about you,” NeNe said. “I don’t even know you.” (We know she has badmouthed Kandi to the cameras, which I guess isn’t technically behind her back since she eventually saw it on the TV screen.)

Kandi, who has shown an impressive amount of equanimity throughout the series, finally gets angry, mostly because NeNe was getting peeved at her for no tangible reason.

“Bring it on down!” Kandi said. “Bring it on down! I’m going to stop before I blow up on your xxx.”

To the cameras, Kandi said, “NeNe knows how to push people’s buttons. She was gonig on about nothing.”

NeNe later tries to explain: “The argument between me and Kandi was bound to happen. She’s always looking at me strange. (huh? This really is high school, isn’t it?) If I say something, she tries to get smart.” Then she calls Kandi a “country bumpkin.”

The teases for next week’s show don’t address how this plays out but it is a true drama souffle.

In other “Housewives” plotlines:

-For her party, which she organized by herself, Sheree had a monstrous eight-foot tall portrait of herself made by Rossin. It’s a true monolithic ego stroke. A well-done ego stroke, true, but an ego stroke nonetheless.

-Lisa and Kandi do “the Pocketbook Monologues,” which is a black woman version of “The Vagina Monologues.” Kandi does a great job personifying a pregnant prostitute with HIV who was abused as a child.

-Kim and Big Poppa get back together. She still loves him and is upset he hasn’t divorced his wife yet. But she needs him as her ATM and goes on a shopping spree. (Jonathan Jaxson, her on-and-off publicist, told me earlier this week she is no longer with him. The bank is again closed.)

Funny quotes from the episode:

“I have a rare opportunity to paint a queen,” – Rossin, to Sheree.

“$32,000 for a gold necklace. It isn’t all that expensive. I mean, it’s pricey but i love it and I want it, I’m buying it.” – Kim, actually using Big Poppa’s kitty to buy it.

“Oh, God! I’m good looking!” – Kim.

“I’m not trying to be in the middle of the craziness.” – Kandi. Sorry. You are.

Ok, you guys are really funny with the comments. I love Fridays!

Nene and ghetto go hand in hand.
Sheree is so obsessed with herself…It is too pathetic. Oh yeah, she has a horse face too. I just had to say that. LOL!
Kim…You really have to get a job. That body will not last always and you aren’t the smartest one in the bunch. Please ask poppa to send you to school or something…Think about it.
Lisa…I still like her…sorry!
Khandi is the most down to earth. She purchased her home at 19 and decided to make improvements rather than continue buying more homes/stuff. That is nice. She is Southern not a country bumpkin…there is a difference. I am Southern as well.
Looking forward to next week!

@Jeff, you really need to learn a little history. But in case you don’t have time, here’s some knowledge for you. African Americans created nearly every form of American music. That’s right, Jazz, Rock, Gospel, whatever. Get a clue! White rock bands often remake songs created by blacks. Get over yourself!

Dina, you are obviously not a R&B fan. Xscape was a very well known girl group. In addition, Kandi is a writer. She made more with one song than you’ll see in a lifetime. Again, get your facts straight.

Nene has never been my favorite and I’m glad others are seeing what I saw all along. Kandi, keep doing you. You have acting skills as well as music…incredible! Keep doing you!

Ken: I agree with you on one point. George Bush is one of the biggest idiots to ever plague America. Other than that, the wannabee somethings on these shows are useless to society.

Q: I agree with you. This show is an absolute disgrace to African-American women/men and ranks up there with how Maury promotes very ugly stereotypes of African-Americans. Either the women are portrayed as volatile banshees with pregnant bellies and 4 thugs who could be the daddy or they are portrayed as uneducated and narcissistic divas who live and die for bling. BAD!!!!

I don’t which offends me the most NeNe or any of the gay characters sass-shaying around the RHOA. It may be entertainment; however, it’s coming with a price. The entire black community is being looked at sideways as a result of this foolishness. There are plenty of intelligent, educated black women in this city that would looks at these fools and laugh all the way to the bank. Dwight and the rest of the Flamboyant Five please seek psychological assistance you are the ugliest wannabe women we have ever seen. A complete disgrace there are no white gay men on TV anywhere this out of control. Where are any of parents as you are a complete disgrace to manhood. Please go back in the closet and slam the door.

I habe been reading this all day. With that said, I don’t know which is more entertaining the blogs or the actual show. Note, I said entertaining because that is what the show is suppose to be entertainment…Not Real Life! I for one cannot wait until Thursday nigth to get my laugh or my OMG no she didn’t on. We all know that real people/women don’t act like this. Scripted or real who in their right minds would allow themselves to be portrayed as these women without getting a paycheck? That’s what entertainers do. Some (entertainers) can be a little bit pickier than other in what roles they choose to play. But if you are a nobody who was chosen to be on a reality show your choices are limited, if at all. I applaud the person at Bravo who cast these women. I’m sure their job is secure for a while. Who could have picked a better cast? Nene: The big mouth “country bumpkin.” Sheree: The I married an athlete but I am not educated enough to make it on my own so I ask for seven figures in my divorce (her words not mine). Kim: I lucked up and found a sugar daddy… but don’t have enough sense to realize he will never divorce and marry me so I better save some of those bucks he dishing out for my daughter’s future. Lisa: I need to focus on my children that I lost custody of and stop pretending that I have so much going on in the business world. Kandi: Continue to keep it real. One bit of advise listen to your Mother AJ is a train wreck waiting to happen. Well until next Thursday

I resist the urge to be embarrassed as an AA, woman, and fellow-Atlantan because of NeNe and company’s behavior. I don’t behave that way and I am not the parent who raised them. Their behavior is completely their own. Anybody who wants to look “sideways” at me because of the actions of some AA bufoons needs to get a life, go out into the real world, and meet the hard-working intelligent AAs that I know. Someone’s judgment of me over Nene’s and other’s foolishness shows their own ignorance.

Aww.. Ne-Ne, how is it that you can talk about Kim’s wig and Kandi’s singing, but forget that you are missing complete rows of teeth from the side of your mouth. And can you actually call your self an author if you don’t even right the book..hmmm…sounds real suspect to me. But then again that would explain why you hate Kandi so much, because she actually has created her wealth on her own talent. I guess you were expecting her to be like the rest of your crew who latchs on to everyone elses talents and claims it as their own (i.e. Sheree and Lisa’s clothing line, and your “published book conveniently written by someone else) And how is it that you and your girlfriend Dwight dished the dirt about Kandi from day one, yet your lying behind told her to her face that you never talked about her. Yet again, another suspect moment. I used to think that you were real, however, I guess you got caught up in the hype of “reality tv”, and thought that meant you would be an instant star. HA, maybe thats why you were mislead to think that you would be the only way to “sell” Kim’s song. You should probably spend more time dealing with your lazy son, than being all up in everyone elses business. Set an example, or maybe you can’t be mad that your son is lazy, cause you havent really given him much to look up to. My advice, Hold tight girlfriend, cause your 15 minutes are quickly ticking away.

Dwight suffers from the false belief that being oppressively feminine equates to blue blood lineage. He seems to fancy himself as an iconic fashion designer.Actual fashion training or credentials be damned.Like the others, he assumes a persona that is driven by sheer egotistical self absorption. Male members of GLAAD should sue him for the false and deeply offending blanket portrayal of the male Gay community. Every week, Dwight and cast draw me into their hilarious world of make believe.

Kenneth Leakes, AKA NeNe really needs to sit down somewhere. Kandi is the only true representation of Atlanta. She tries very hard to stay away from the freak of nature but as they say misery loves company and she continues to try and invite Kandi to her misery party. I really hope that Kandi follows in Deshawn’s foot steps and leave this show. Honestly I like the show but Kandi is too good for this, they need to find someone who will tone NeNe down and I just may be that person. I would love to take her on. It can be The Faking it Like you Making It Housewife and the Real Housewives of Atlanta. Me and Kenny Leakes, BRING IT ON ALL OR NOTHING.

I agree with you so much. I was wondering if anyone would pick that up. Even Kandi said that when they were at the studio now she want to change her mind and get all the liemlight herself instead of having NENE on the track with her. Only after hearing what KANDI did witht he song did Kim change her mind about NENE being on the song. Honestly I would have cursed KIM out also.

Dwight said the following to Essence Magazine regarding his credentials:

ESSENCE.COM: Welcome back from Paris. You are now a reality TV favorite, but around Atlanta you are known for your fierce eye for fashion and style. How did you get started in the business of beauty?
DWIGHT EUBANKS: I’ve been doing hair all my life. I grew up playing with my sister’s dolls and that was the beginning. I come from two generations of ministers, so my parents saw me following that road. Of course, that didn’t work and I got beat for playing with dolls. My grandmother helped them finally accept me as I am. It’s been a natural art for me and not a day of work. I modeled prior to doing hair and I also had a hat line called Eubanks Design. After being the style director at Saks Fifth Avenue, I opened my own salon and here we are now celebrating 21 years in the business. There’s nothing I would change.

He also said that he’s getting his own show:

ESSENCE.COM: You got that right. And we hear that speaking your mind helped you secure your own show.
EUBANKS: Well, the networks are still trying to figure out what to do with me. Most days I don’t know what to do with me, so I know they are having a hard time. (Laughs.) I’ve had several offers and had to re-evaluate what direction I want to go in. On the next season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” I will be featured more and we start filming in a few weeks. I hope it will be a little more positive and more of what I do when it comes to beauty. It’s going to be interesting. This show is not staged. It’s the real raw material.

I am glad to hear that Kandi will not be on the show next season as she stated on the Wendy Williams show last night.. NeNe had the nerve to call Kandi Country !!! NeNe is from ATHENS GA……………….How country is that. Kandi is class all the way. I was a fan of NeNe, but not anymore. The only sane one is Kandi. I would not buy NeNe’s book if it was for a penny. Can you believe NeNe’s friend telling her to stop argueing because she has a book deal !!!

Kandi has gold records on her wall !!!!!!! NeNe is a disgrace to this world.

…And (Lord have mercy) he’s getting married soon TO A WOMAN!!! Bless her heart…

America’s favorite Atlanta “Housewives” star Dwight has the blogosphere in an uproar with news that he is getting a wife of his own. The flamboyant hairstylist who was first introduced as NeNe Leakes’s best friend and confidante on the premiere season has confirmed exclusively to ESSENCE.com that he is engaged to a woman.

Although a date has not been set, Dwight’s bride-to-be has no qualms about his appreciation for both sexes. And it hasn’t stopped other women from pursuing the hairstylist and divo extraordinaire for romantic liaisons.

Okay, let’s be honest. Y’all know NeNe was the “breakout star” last season and everyone loved her. So this season, she just took it up to another level so she could become even MORE famous. But she has gone too far. She is just so damn ghetto and trashy with her rented house and messed up wig. I almost feel sorry for her. At least all the other women on the show are pretty…she’s just a big ol’ beast with bad skin. She’s clearly hating on everyone.

And isn’t it strange that Lisa has latched onto her this season? You know Lisa has tried to be an actress in the past and she sees this show as her last chance. She saw how NeNe got all the publicity last year, so she’s trying to stick to her like glue so she’ll get more camera time. That’s just sad.

Sheree … well, what else can anyone say about her? Her favorite line is “it’s all about me.” Well, looking at those sad, pitiful children she has, that statement is the only real thing she’s said on the whole show. Quit planning parties for yourself, get a job and pay attention to your damn kids!! Don’t be made ’cause they look like Bob! (LMAO)

Nikki, you stated some very good points in your post @ 3:41. Nene is so quick to talk about everyone else but won’t even look in the mirror. I haven’t heard about her foundation at all this season. Her son should be working and contributing to the household or furthering his education if his big grown lazy self is gonna be living at home. You know Nene is footing the bill with Greg’s money. That’s why they had to have the talk. I don’t blame Kim for not wanting Nene on the song. Nene couldn’t make up her mind in the first place and she even said it would be just for fun. Kandi even said Nene said no one minute then yes the next about coming to the studio. Nene only wanted to latch on AFTER she heard Kandi’s remake. Why won’t she just leave Kim alone?? She doesn’t want to be her friend yet she doesn’t want anyone else to be Kim’s friend. What the hell am I missing??

NeNe is such a trouble maker, she likes all the attention. She claims she has balls for the camera ( someone that loves the camera). If, Kim wants to do the song by herself, let her. NeNe just wants fame and fortune for herself, Kandi is the only one that has class and how can NeNe call her ghetto and she looks more ghetto than all of them. She looks like a man her and Sheree! Kandi stay classy!

Did anyone test NeNe’s gender before selecting her for housewives. She has delusions of grandeur and thinks she is the epitome of high society. She looks like a “female impersonator”, talks like a ghetto bunny, her wig/weave is extremely ghetto and why does she think anyone on this earth wants to read about her life? We must all pray for her. Khandi, you’re the greatest!!!

Sheree I have to give it to Lisa’s stylist for calling you out about NOT spending time with your kids. I really feel sorry for you to see your kids look so unkept while you spend all your time on yourself. Sheree your daughter’s hair looked a hot mess like it hadn’t been braided since the 1st episode of Season 2 when you put her to bed. Lisa’s stylist’s Tracy Sipp called you out for not spending time with any of your kids claiming you were at your son’s recital when you missed Lisa’s fashion show. Please tell us what kind of instrument he plays REALLY? STOP all this madness and start being a parent to your kids. They will resent you later in life for being so self consumed.

People please tell me why Kandi is the only one from the show you guys are raving about? For sake she writes music. If she’s so great why haven’t we heard from her before now? Kandi crawled under a rock back in the late 90’s with Xscape and we haven’t heard from her since. Kandi couldn’t even get her own music career started when she release her CD several years ago. Honestly, how many units did Kandi sell? Maybe 100 copies if that many but all of sudden Kandi is the star of the Real Housewives of Atlanta. NOT!!! You guys made NeNe the star and blew her head up from Season 1 and now you have a change of mind. Honey you guys saw NeNe was a HOT Ghetto mess then but thought she kept it real. So please tell me what happened? Ghetto then and still Ghetto.

NeNe – I think it is disgraceful how this woman acts! Not only is she guilty of all the things she faults others for, but she is also a very poor excuse for a human. I understand that she may have had some bad things happen to her in her life. Who hasn’t?! But that is not an excuse to mistreat and bully others. I am not a big fan of Kim’s. However, NeNe treats her so wrong it sickens me. And I am perplexed and bothered by her attitude toward Kandi. She has had an issue with her from the very beginning. Why? She’s clearly intimidated by the fact that Kandi is a woman that is self-sufficient and does not depend on a man to keep her fed, clothed and sheltered. I wish she’d get over herself and realize that the show is not about just her and that acting like an idiot is not the only way to get camera time. Such a shame that all women don’t know how to be ladies!

NEENEEEE!??!!!! What did bravo offer you to make you show your a** like that on last nights show??? I knew last season you were a “sho nuff” ghetto hood rat, but what you had last season that endeared you to the masses was humility, you were never my favorite, but it is human nature for people to root for the underdog, now I dont think even your family recognizes you, and whats up with that tacky wig??
Dwight – With all your fashion “expertise” why haven’t you pulled Nene’s coat, why you got your girl running around with that cheap wig on, she could probably do better just wearing her own hair
Sheree – I hope your a better mother in reality than you appear to be on the show. I think you sometimes read these blogs and were trying to make a positive gesture by kissing your kids goodnight before you left for your independence party (and what the he** kind of message do you think thats sending to your kids? to celebrate so expensively your break up with their father?) but every time the camera hits your daughter her hair is not combed, and she seemed to be aware of the stark difference in your appearance compared to hers, because she would neither look at you nor the camera. A brush and some pink lotion can work miracles in just 5 or 10 minutes, since its obvious she wont be receiving the same type of pampering you lavish on yourself
Kim – two words for you “self worth” get some
Lisa – Yaaaaawwwwnnn youve just turned into Nene’s yes girl
Khandi – Nothing but mad respect for you, for all those people who thought Nehe was keeping it real last season, please take note, khandi you are talented, beautiful and classy, never change

Kim wanted Nene to blow up because if she didn’t she would have return Nene phone calls or went to her house and told her what she wanted to do but she waited to tell some something like at a party. These women are a perfect example of the theory: you can take a girl out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of them. One word to describe each lady: Sheree- thief , NeNe- Ghetto ,

I am so sick of Ne-Ne. She thinks that she is this Queen or something. She ISNT funny at all and she thinks that the world goes around her(it doesnt). If Kim doesnt want her on her song then she has every right not to have her on it. Kandi was doing something that Kim asked her to do. She didnt pick and choose who was going to be on the CD. I agree with Lisa that Kandi should’ve stayed neutral in the situation(she did try) but Ne-Ne man looking ass kept getting into her face about the damned song. It seems that Kandi gets along with everyone on Real Housewives except for Ne-Ne. All Ne-Ne has done since Kandi has been on the show is downgrade her. For what? Because she is the new girl on the block. She doesnt realize that Kandi will open up a can of woop ass on her. Just because she is big doesnt mean a thing. To me she is a bully and someone like Kandi needs to stop her big man looking ass. All I want to know from Ne-Ne is where are your Grammys,Where are your millions of CD’s sold at,What kind of fame do you have other than Real House Wives, must I go on. Kandi was established BEFORE she joined up with the show. Ne-Ne I believe your fifteen minutes of shame are now over please exit. Once the show ends what kind of career will you have? Oh I forgot the stripper pole is still ready for you. Oops I forgot you are getting older my bad. Just please go away and let us enjoy Real Housewives

Kandi has saved this show for me! And for the record… she doesn’t need grammar lessons. It is all about dialect. We come from different areas in the state and we talk in different dialects. Her tone of voice is heavy and she is a closed teeth talker… that’s all.
I used to dislike Ne-Ne, but after last night, I just feel sorry for her. Here is her problem. She has never been called pretty, cute, attractive, fine, good looking in all her years of living, and let’s face it… She never will be called those names. I bet she has had to run down and tackle any man that she has ever been with. She is loud because before this show… no one ever listened to her because as soon as they took at look at that body and face(Which would probably look so much better if her heart and attitude were better)they dismissed her. She acts that way to hide those scars… She attacks Kim and Kandi(who are very beautiful, pretty, attractive, and fine) because they have what she’s always wanted. And to top it off, Kandi is a successful hard working woman and NeNe thinks that since she can never be as successful as Kandi, or find a man like Big poppa to buy her things, then she’ll just tear them down any way that she can. When she stated that she wasn’t ghetto because she came from Athens… I was thinking to myself, surely she means Athens, Greece! Nope, she meant Athens, Ga!! I nearly fell out of my seat laughing. We all know people like her in the world, and we try our best to stay as far away from them as possible. I feel sorry for her boys and the women that come into their lives after being raised by her.

Wow Ne-Ne needs to sit here — down. She is the CAPITAL “G” in the word Ghetto. I wonder who told her she has class, or better yet was one of the elites of Atlanta. Why didn’t I get this title, all I do is work a simple job. However I must say that I do have some class. Sheree needs to sit her tired broken down unemployed behind down as well. Looks like Kandi has my vote for a women with a little something to do in Atlanta.

Sweetnlow-
I dont think Kims decision to not have Nene on her record had anything to do with the limelight, Nene has been acting less and less like a friend to Kim, or to any of them for that matter, and i dont think she wanted to collaborate with her anymore, how can you defend that big drag queen???
