‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 9: Bring it on down, Kandi!
That vaunted fight between Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes was much ado about… not much of anything.
NeNe seemed to pick the argument out of the stratosphere.
Here’s the background: Kandi became friends with Kim Zolciak. NeNe got oddly jealous about it and badmouthed Kandi’s music skills behind her back. Their relationship seemed okay at the Alter Ego shoot when Kandi directed NeNe on her photo. But then NeNe heard Kim wanted to do the “Tardy for the Party” song by herself and not with NeNe.
At Sheree Whitfield’s “independence” party at Door 44, a Midtown club, Kim (in crutches from the fall she had from the Alter Ego party in last week’s episode) breaks the news to NeNe that she wants to do the song on her own.
NeNe goes all passive aggressive. “I have no problem if you want to sing the song by yourself,” she said, when in fact she does have a problem with it. “My opinion is you can’t sell the song without me because of who I am, my personality, everything that has to do with me. More people will buy the song if I was on the song.”
She’s probably right but Kim isn’t pleased with NeNe’s implication. So when NeNe gives a fake “good luck” to her, Kim utters, “you’re just evil” and turns away. “Kim is like a dirty person,” NeNe said to the camera later, complaining that Kim changed her mind.
Lisa Wu Hartwell had warned Kandi to stay out of it. And Kandi tries. Oh, she tries. But naturally, NeNe comes up to her and tells her she doesn’t appreciate Kandi talking about her behind her back. (Is she?) “I don’t talk about you,” NeNe said. “I don’t even know you.” (We know she has badmouthed Kandi to the cameras, which I guess isn’t technically behind her back since she eventually saw it on the TV screen.)
Kandi, who has shown an impressive amount of equanimity throughout the series, finally gets angry, mostly because NeNe was getting peeved at her for no tangible reason.
“Bring it on down!” Kandi said. “Bring it on down! I’m going to stop before I blow up on your xxx.”
To the cameras, Kandi said, “NeNe knows how to push people’s buttons. She was gonig on about nothing.”
NeNe later tries to explain: “The argument between me and Kandi was bound to happen. She’s always looking at me strange. (huh? This really is high school, isn’t it?) If I say something, she tries to get smart.” Then she calls Kandi a “country bumpkin.”
The teases for next week’s show don’t address how this plays out but it is a true drama souffle.
In other “Housewives” plotlines:
-For her party, which she organized by herself, Sheree had a monstrous eight-foot tall portrait of herself made by Rossin. It’s a true monolithic ego stroke. A well-done ego stroke, true, but an ego stroke nonetheless.
-Lisa and Kandi do “the Pocketbook Monologues,” which is a black woman version of “The Vagina Monologues.” Kandi does a great job personifying a pregnant prostitute with HIV who was abused as a child.
-Kim and Big Poppa get back together. She still loves him and is upset he hasn’t divorced his wife yet. But she needs him as her ATM and goes on a shopping spree. (Jonathan Jaxson, her on-and-off publicist, told me earlier this week she is no longer with him. The bank is again closed.)

“$32,000 for a gold necklace. It isn’t all that expensive. I mean, it’s pricey but i love it and I want it, I’m buying it.” – Kim, actually using Big Poppa’s kitty to buy it.

“I’m not trying to be in the middle of the craziness.” – Kandi. Sorry. You are.

I’m confused. NeNe is mad that Kim dumped her on the song, but didn’t NeNe do the same thing to Lisa re: releasing the book on domestic violence. According to Lisa, NeNe decided she wanted the limelight to herself and cut Lisa out. Guess what goes around does really come around.

I’ve never liked Ne-Ne…I picked up on her true colors last season…she was a bitch then and it has really gone overboard. Kim – if you read these blogs, listen to the viewers. Ne-Ne is NOT your friend. Please give her your a** to kiss and move on. Kandi – you really are the best of the bunch and I asssure you, your fans will love you no less if you clock Ne-Ne in the mouth one good time. Lisa – stay true to you. Sheree – how much would you pay me to come over and clean your house, put up all that s*** that’s still in bags/boxes from your move, and spend some quality time with your children? If you spent 1/2 as much time/money/energy on your home life as you do on being “fabulous” (????), your kids would be EVER so grateful…after all, that’s what REAL housewives do.

Seriously FedUP with the nonsense- You are right, it has no standards, no morals——it is television! The only TV my daughter is allowed to watch is PBS and occasionally Discovery or Food Network. This show is for adults most of which realize it is for entertainment purposes only. Believe me, if they filmed me (I am a housewife in Atlanta), they’d be bored out of their minds. My big splurge is not a $32,000 necklace or a life-sized painting of myself but more like a new pair of shoes from TJ Maxx. The only drama in my house is getting my daughter to take a nap. You get what I mean, boring. You need egotistical maniacs like this for a TV show. Someone mentioned above how amazing it is to find 5 women like this and to put them on a show together…it really is amazing. I like the show. I think it is sad that some people live this way in their own [made-up] reality.
Kudos to Kandi for sticking up for Kim and herself.
I am WAAAAYYY over NeNe. Did anyone catch the part where the chick writing her book asked about going to Athens and if she was a huge celebrity there and NeNe said yeah, there would probably be signs and stuff like that. Ha. Yeah, Athens, a college town for rich white kids. I’m sure they’ll be having a NeNe parade when she shows up in Athens. (= Too funny. She is so full of herself.
Lisa is so self-centered. Remember she didn’t even really want to do the “Pocketbook Monologues” in the first place? Then after she saw how great Kandi was she was pissed b/c she didn’t get a better monologue/part. Whatever Lisa, whatever.
Sheree, wow. I never want to see that much of her again. That portrait was a bit much. The dude who painted it by the way had to stroke her ego. She probably spent like $50,000 on that stupid thing. What was he supposed to do? That one painting could have paid off a nice car…you’d have to kiss someones ass who is spending that much money. He probably gets sh$t from all his friends now after seeing that episode.
Kim needs to grow some balls. I can’t believ she let NeNe and all those other ghetto who*es bully her out of the party. She didn’t even start it. I am glad people are starting to see who NeNe really is. She messed with Kandi and now everyone is pissed. You don’t mess with the quiet, nice one, duh. She could have kept getting away with messing with Kim but now she has stepped over the line.

ZOE, I am thinking the photog/artist donated his time and services in exchange for the air-time and publicity. She doesn’t have the kind of expendable cash to make that type of purchase and I don’t see her as someone who appreciates real art. She will have to sell a lot dang dresses before she would have that kind of money and her money comes after everyone else has been paid.

NeNe’s head [ego] is getting as big as her imagination – Neither she nor Kim will make it in the music industry and this one hot mess “Tardy for the Party” will be a joke song – nothing more. Kandi and her team gave it some credibility with a decent beat, but beyond that it will just be the RHOA theme song.
The disagreement last night was staged – well hell, it’s all staged, but it was simply to try and make it a little more interesting. People love a fight, even when it’s over foolishness.
Kandi handles herself and clearly her business very well – RHOA is good exposure for her, and the way she ‘tore down” that pocketbook monologue scene suggests she has some decent acting skills. Get what you can from this experience and move on – don’t get caught in this nonsense.

Oh, yes Kandi!!! You are the truth girl. You are a REAL representation of the ATL, from your cool hospitable personality, to the rock star hair, to the southern twang in your speach. You represent us REAL ATLiens well girl. Pure class and authenticity.
Have any of you noticed that Kandi is the only one who OWNS her home, she’s the only one that doesn’t try to live this fake extravagent lifestyle. She’s making her money doing what she’s good at, music. She takes the show for what it is,,,,, a show but isn’t letting it go to her head.
Lisa has become a follower of NeNe and I wish she would feed NeNe with a “long handed spoon.” No matter what I loke Sherre, she loves herself, she celebrates her life, she does what the hell she wants to and makes no apologies for it. She has passion and vision for her clothing line and I believe she’s going to make it happen.

Did Sheree’s friend Tania’s chest grow or what? I think she may have followed Sheree to a fake boobs party one day.
Sheree’s bigger than life portrait was abit narcissistic; she clearly has a higher opinion of herself than the viewers, or, anyone else for that matter. I think she looks drag queenish at times-pershaps the over use of steroids?? And there was something odd about the portrait, especially around the eyes.
NeNe was soo wrong on last night’s episode; she has truly become full of herself; she was my fav last season; the little taste of fame has gone to her head. And why is she soo jealous of everyone!!, she talks badly about all the casts members; if she feels someone else is in the limelight she starts throwing “shade”(to use her word) all over them. You were always ghetto, but now you have graduated to a “HOT Ghetto MESS”. Greg I think you are cool though, I love your persona.
I think Dwight talked about Lisa’s fashion show only because she did not ask him to be involved in it. He and Sheree could be twins with their over-inflated sense of worth.
I thought Lisa’s show was nice and apparently so did Dwight; the only thing he could find fault with was the hem lines-who could possible see the hem lines in muted lighting, and most importantly, who cares?? It was not the finished product anyway, just a peek at what’s to come. I especially loved the purple jumpsuit Lisa wore; Sheree was just green with envy because she has never been able to pull a show off. It cracked me up when her manager/agent-whateva said Mercedes thought her event was getting too ‘big’; they tried to spin it to make viewers think her vision was even more grand than what Mercedes could deliver/can you say “delusional”, lol.
Kim, I listened to the song “Tardy for the Party” on Bravo.com; it’s really catchy; I’ll buy it!
Khandi, keep on being you-girl, you have more class than all of them put together, and you are multi-talented; I have a new-found appreciation for you as a producer after seeing what you were able to do with Kim’s song; that was nothing short of a miracle:)

Dina, if you’re talking about Kandi, she was a member of Xscape–not “Xcite”. Just because you’ve never heard of the group, that doesn’t mean that it didn’t exist or wasn’t popular. Xscape was a very popular R&B group in the ’90s. They even have a page on Wikipedia, that lists all of their accomplishments. So, it is obvious that you are not an R&B fan. It’s okay that you’re not.
Anyway, I was very appalled by the lack of class that NeNe displayed. I was also appalled by that very blatant lie she said when she told Kandi that she hasn’t said anything about her. She has criticized Kandi ever since the girl has been on the show. She really needs to get over herself.
Kandi really showed restraint in how she handled NeNe. However, she should have said nothing and walked away, leaving NeNe to look the mule that she is.

I watched the show last night was very tired so if Kandi had some mishpas with her english I missed. Kandi has a very monitone voice so when she speaks it’s like she is talking into her chest and it sometimes makes it hard to understand her but didn’t get the english thing as why she needs to learn it. I think very few people use english correctly word for word. Love watching RHOA I couldn

Just a few notes here. At the unveiling after Kim fell and complained that she couldn’t walk, we see her walking to her car without a limp or anything. Then moaning and groaning about how she couldn’t walk. DRAMA!!
Kim mentioned that she was a nurse when she hooked up with Papa. In early shows she stated that they had been together for seven months. Kim’s nursing license hasn’t been renewed since 1993. Timelines don’t add up Kim!
Sheree stated that her “Independence Party” was women only, yet they showed several men(?) or should I say males at her party. And Lawrence’s gift to Sheree was a stripper? Totally inappropriate!

This show is great! Come on! Look at all the post. And people do watch it even if they don’t want to admit it. It’s like “Being Bobby Brown” with the drugs done on screen! Great reality TV even though it’s far from reality. This is the tornado and the train wreck at the same time in slow motion. You gotta watch it. I think Bravo had some underlying motives when they selected these HO’z because this is getting way too out of control the way they are acting. Ghetto fabulous at its finest and in what better place to record the show than the most Ghetto city in the US. Atlanta was a promissing place to live before the ghetto factor took over.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is just tv. But how much of it is acting??? As most of you agree, Kandi is the realest and most drama free. She seems to be a genuine friend and I like that she has taken Kim under her wing. Kim would really be a good friend but NeNe was never a TRUE friend so that’s when the drama came in between them. I used to love Nene but she is such a jealous hearted woman. And the audacity of her to call Kandi ghetto. They both have that southern twang but Kandi is far from ghetto. Nene is the one that acts like she is straight from the projects and lucked up on Greg. Poor Greg cuz he seems so sweet. Although I don’t condone it, why does everyone act like Kim is the only mistress on Earth??? And the ones I have seen are not rolling Bentley Coupes or buying $10K rings at just an urge. I’m glad Sheree finally got to have her Independence Party although it was more like a get together….nothing like she was trying to plan on someone else’s dime when Anthony was supposed to do it. Typical Sheree for you. I really used to like Lisa but I have a question mark on her now. She seems to feed into the mess more and more. She is a beautiful woman and has a good business mind though. But hats off to Kandi cuz she is beautiful inside and out, continuing to hold it down as a single mother, drug and alchohol free, and a REAL woman.

Nene should be embarrassed. She is so transparent. So jealous, so envious, and claims she’s not. I used to like her, but her stock has gone way down. She’s an instigator, and Khandi will come out on top. I was unsure about the addition to Khandi this season, but she is real, and the most genuine. She has way more going for herself than any of the other so-called I-rent-my-house housewives.

The Real Housewives (term used loosely)of Atlanta is a train wreck. The situations that occur are unbelievable. These “ladies” have children and this is the behavior they choose to display. So sad!!!! Sheree is a joke, your self-esteem is in the garbage, but you do a really good job of pretending you are a diva. Kim is lost in space, NOBODY is happy with being number 2. How many competitors have you ever heard say, “I don’t want to win, I want to come in second”? None! NeNe, perfect example, Money DOES NOT equal class. Messy, messy! nene was jealous of kandi from the very beginning. Kandi is already established and I feel nene thought kandi was going to take some shine a way from her. Kandi should do this season and bounce. I understand since her new album is coming out that this would bring her new fans.
nene is the countriest most ghetto person I have ever seen on tv. “keepin it real” does not mean being nasty 24/7. Did anybody see her on the Emmy’s? My God!!!! All of her comments just malicious..I guess she thinks that makes her nene. That is not the nene everyone first liked in season 1 at all….and that lipstick she had on. WHAT!!!
The only reason people watch this season is because of last season. also the fact that Sheree got it going in the first episode. That is it. All this other stuff full of nene interviews is BORING. Lisa had Derek Blank cameo in the first season when he was taking photographs of her. nene is not the first housewife to work with him. Also Lisa needs to stop being bullied by nene. they minute lisa looks at nene wrong nene is going to start talking sideways about her too. wait and see.
Sheree needs to stop dealing with people that are always doing things for her for free so she can actually get some things done. In this life if you want something done right you have to pay for it and if you don’t have enough money to pay for it you it aint time for you to do it.

Embarrased, I almost agree with you. On the topic of Kim, she doesn’t want to be #2. Did you not see the part where she is asking when is Big Poppa gonna get a divorce? Like she previously stated, Sheree was still legally married and dating other men so how is that so different from Kim??? I don’t condone it. I’m just asking. This is all tv and how much of it is actually REAL, idk. Even though it’s very entertaining to watch them every week, it also revolts me to an extent of how ignorant my sisters can be. For the exception of Kandi, all of them are questionable. I am starting to like Kim though. The more I watch and hear Nene, the more I dislike her. She is a true hater yet thinks everyone is hating on her when she has nothing to hate on. She still has to check the price tag when she goes shopping. Everyone says Lisa and I are so much alike and I hate that. She is very pretty physically but her ugliness inside is starting to show this season.

I am still claiming that I don’t watch the show… But I do… Hence my online name. However, I did see last nights’ segment. I think the real reason Kim doesn’t want Ne Ne on the song dates back to the episode when she had her “wig” party and Ne Ne put on the wig and overdid her impersonation of Kim. In fact, the more she did it, the more you knew Ne Ne was mocking her. I’m sure the editing played a lot in the viewers’ minds. Is it a requirement by BRAVO that the 5th housewife have an un-natural way of talking? Season 1 — DeShown talked without barely opening her mouth and this season we have Kandi who talks through her teeth kinda like a ventriloquist. Hey Bravo for Season 3 why don’t you bring back DeShown and put her on Kandi’s lap? The two of them will make a perfect dummy act.
