‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 9: Bring it on down, Kandi!
That vaunted fight between Kandi Burruss and NeNe Leakes was much ado about… not much of anything.
NeNe seemed to pick the argument out of the stratosphere.
Here’s the background: Kandi became friends with Kim Zolciak. NeNe got oddly jealous about it and badmouthed Kandi’s music skills behind her back. Their relationship seemed okay at the Alter Ego shoot when Kandi directed NeNe on her photo. But then NeNe heard Kim wanted to do the “Tardy for the Party” song by herself and not with NeNe.
At Sheree Whitfield’s “independence” party at Door 44, a Midtown club, Kim (in crutches from the fall she had from the Alter Ego party in last week’s episode) breaks the news to NeNe that she wants to do the song on her own.
NeNe goes all passive aggressive. “I have no problem if you want to sing the song by yourself,” she said, when in fact she does have a problem with it. “My opinion is you can’t sell the song without me because of who I am, my personality, everything that has to do with me. More people will buy the song if I was on the song.”
She’s probably right but Kim isn’t pleased with NeNe’s implication. So when NeNe gives a fake “good luck” to her, Kim utters, “you’re just evil” and turns away. “Kim is like a dirty person,” NeNe said to the camera later, complaining that Kim changed her mind.
Lisa Wu Hartwell had warned Kandi to stay out of it. And Kandi tries. Oh, she tries. But naturally, NeNe comes up to her and tells her she doesn’t appreciate Kandi talking about her behind her back. (Is she?) “I don’t talk about you,” NeNe said. “I don’t even know you.” (We know she has badmouthed Kandi to the cameras, which I guess isn’t technically behind her back since she eventually saw it on the TV screen.)
Kandi, who has shown an impressive amount of equanimity throughout the series, finally gets angry, mostly because NeNe was getting peeved at her for no tangible reason.
“Bring it on down!” Kandi said. “Bring it on down! I’m going to stop before I blow up on your xxx.”
To the cameras, Kandi said, “NeNe knows how to push people’s buttons. She was gonig on about nothing.”
NeNe later tries to explain: “The argument between me and Kandi was bound to happen. She’s always looking at me strange. (huh? This really is high school, isn’t it?) If I say something, she tries to get smart.” Then she calls Kandi a “country bumpkin.”
The teases for next week’s show don’t address how this plays out but it is a true drama souffle.
In other “Housewives” plotlines:
-For her party, which she organized by herself, Sheree had a monstrous eight-foot tall portrait of herself made by Rossin. It’s a true monolithic ego stroke. A well-done ego stroke, true, but an ego stroke nonetheless.
-Lisa and Kandi do “the Pocketbook Monologues,” which is a black woman version of “The Vagina Monologues.” Kandi does a great job personifying a pregnant prostitute with HIV who was abused as a child.
-Kim and Big Poppa get back together. She still loves him and is upset he hasn’t divorced his wife yet. But she needs him as her ATM and goes on a shopping spree. (Jonathan Jaxson, her on-and-off publicist, told me earlier this week she is no longer with him. The bank is again closed.)

“$32,000 for a gold necklace. It isn’t all that expensive. I mean, it’s pricey but i love it and I want it, I’m buying it.” – Kim, actually using Big Poppa’s kitty to buy it.
“Oh, God! I’m good looking!” – Kim.
“I’m not trying to be in the middle of the craziness.” – Kandi. Sorry. You are.

Bravo has done a terrific job of scripting this show and setting up conflicts. In NeNe they have created the leading narcissist (although all the women are – except perhaps Kandi). And they have allowed her to be the aggressor in the series. It is clear these women were not friends before the show and probably aren’t now. There are lots of stupid get-togethers that are supposed to imply that they are friends, like Lisa talking with Kandi at Kandi’s house, and they could just have easily have had a phone call (that doesn’t make for good television, though).
As for Sheree’s portrait, what’s the big deal? Doesn’t everyone have a monster size portrait of themselves? Her ego is staggering – and where she is getting the money for her escapades is a puzzle in itself. According to Rossin’s web site, he paints “Contemporary portraits starting at $25,000 for a 30″ x 30″ painting.” So imagine how much that monster cost! She has people like Rossin stroking her ego with “princess” comments. Again – most likely a Bravo set-up. Oh, I forgot, though, that people are jealous of her success. So far she is very successful at spending money and acting like she has it. So I guess I’m jealous.
Kim is absolutely amazing. She dresses like a hooker and acts the same. Her daughters are indulged beyond belief (unless it is for the camera) – letting them stay up late and eating food that will allow them to get even fatter than they are. She has driven a Bentley convertible in past shows, and I wonder how she got it and where it was last night when they had the shot of her townhouse (not a big deal place) with the SUV in front. She either has a lot of money (family, etc.) or is getting money from men (although Bravo is probably paying at least $10k a show). Let’s see – if she gets money from men – Big Pappa or other – what does that make her?
Kandi is the star – and rightly so. Her performance in the monologue was amazing. She seems cool and generally unflappable, even in the face of NeNe’s aggressive attack. I just wish she would learn grammar (forgive an old white guy for preferring somewhat proper grammar). This show could actually help her career – and she deserves good things to happen. Her choice in men is questionable, but that’s another topic.
NeNe – she is out of control. A book!?! Give me a break. I saw it in Costco and was stunned. Again, a Bravo thing to pump the show. Her house is empty. All the camera angles are set so you can’t see the barren walls and empty rooms. Her “co-author” is just now (in show-time) learning what will be in the book. I just can’t wait to spend my money to learn about her youth in Athens, GA. Should be exciting. Perhaps the book is a “tell all”. I’ll wait for the Cliff’s notes on it. So clearly she is being propped up by Bravo. And that has gone straight to her ego. I used to think she was really “real” – but now I don’t. I feel sorry for her and her husband. They obviously don’t have money (there’s no crime in that) and they are living a fake life. I would take any bet that her ring is a Cubic Zerconia (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Not having money is more the norm now-a-days, but acting like you do is another story.
OK – now I look forward to comments. I hope people will keep race out of it. This show is about five (or more) people and is as scripted and any sitcom. It is no more reality than Seinfeld.

NeNe made it known last night she was born in New York and raised in Athens, GA so what is saying that’s the reason she is not country!! I was a huge fan of NeNe’s but not anymore she want’s to be the center of attention and she is doing it the wrong way. NeNe you already tall and big and loud spoken you don’t have to bring attention to yourself you are the first seen when you are with the other ladies you stand over them like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. You should be more lady like, I truly hope you try and find some etiquette some where cause honey you need it. You need to concentrate on the lazy son you have living at home with you; your husband says he should be get a job in which I somewhat agree but how about stressing education since you don’t have any. NeNe I am so disappointed you said Gregg your husband was into property investment then I heard you on the radio say he was a motivational speaker c’mon give us a break. I must agree that Kim was lookin right in that bathing suit, NeNe on the other hand has went from good to bad for me, and Kandi the O.G. of a representer of da A-town has been real since day one appearting on the 2nd season. As far as Lisa she’s still an ok and gorgeous looking woman, just stay away from that messy stuff dealing with Kim, NeNe, and Sheree sometimes. Lisa you’re almost just like Kandi down to earth person, but don’t push my buttons cuz you can get on that other level. Sheree you’ve got that killer body for being a cougar age, but its just your personality that turns me off. But you can still get it from dis young 28 yr. old.

All these so called “housewives” are useless trash with cash. They don’t even qualify as “has beens.” I’ve never heard of that group Xcite that that one (I forget her name as she is completely forgettable)..or whatever they were called. There are plenty of reasons not to like Kim, but the hateful stuff being said about her fall/injury is truly sad. That girl was torn up, & anyone who’s had this type of injury knows how bad it hurts ESPECIALLY when you first apply ice. And for those who don’t have the grey matter to figure it out for themselves, let me help you…..EDITING. The segments you see aren’t always in chronological order. Obviously the pool scene was filmed a few weeks or more after the two parties shown.
What I find amusing is how all these ‘high living’, shallow, materialistic, self indulgent witches are having serious money issues in real life. They’re about as ‘in control’ of their finances as they are of their mouths. With the possible exception of Kandi, they’re pretty much without any class.
And by the way that huge portrait of Sheree’ is lopsided – one side of her face looks bigger than the other! LOL

Poor Kim. She’s just such a drama queen. I don’t like the way she allows the other women to speak to her and tell her off at times. And yes, she deliberately arrived late to the fashion show like Lisa’s stylist called her out on. I loved the way Lisa ignored her when she asked to see the fashions after the show was over. If she had wanted to see them, she should’ve been there. We haven’t heard her speak about attending anything for her children before. Actually, she NEVER talks about her children; it’s alwasy about HER. Lisa admitted she’s no designer; she’s the brains behind the business. Sheree, don’t hate, because you are not who you THINK you are socially, Honey. You and your gay trainer need to keep working on your nice-looking body because that’s about the only thing you have going for yourself. At least it’s not fake like that hair that you’re always twirling around your fingers and swinging from side to side as if you grew it naturally yourself. Anywaaaaaaaay!!!!!
Lisa: I liked from the beginning but saw her catty-ness a few episodes back when she and Kim had the difference. I still like her but don’t like how she lets herself get drawn into the two-faced messiness conversations that go on about the other ladies sometimes behind their backs. I love the show, not because it is real, but it is entertaining. After the floods in Atlanta, loss of life, loss of homes, war in Afghanistan, loss of jobs, need I go on? I just want to get out of the real world for an hour and watch this crazy, ghetto, self-obsorbed, jealous, envious catshow with RHOA. It’s just entertainment people, I just like to see where they film in Atlanta & if I have ever visited these spots that they are putting on the map. People liken up, it makes you live longer & just have some fun sometimes. If I think about all the bad, sad & evil in the world I would be on meds for depression. Live & let live. This show has no morals, has no standards to live by… Is this what we are teaching our children? I haven’t heard anyone talk about their Faith or relationship with the Lord, all they talk about is having parties, and talking about each other. Can they please do something to help the underpriviledged children in Atlanta or around the world? Can they donate some time and money to the homeless shelters and give an encouraging word to someone? Before you can do any of these things you have to first have some Self Love and the Love of the Father. I pray for each of these ladies that they get back to reality and get their heads out of the clouds, cause the real issue today is about Heaven or Hell and where will they end up? Cause Bravo nor Big Poppa nor any of these people can help you get into Heaven our out of Hell.
Please lets do some self evaluations here people there is too much at stake for us to be playing these type of games with peoples lives.

Kandi is the only REAL ATLANTA Georgia Peach. She represents Atlanta women very well, she shows class & talent, wish it would rub off on NENE but I guess you can’t teach an OLD FART new tricks!
The rest of the cast are wanna-be’s. Sounds like Kandi needs her own show, and the rest of them need to go to Charm School”well that will be another reality show train wreck” and learn some manners and earn their own money and stop gold diggin.

NeNe has low self-esteem and is a big, fat, lazy-eyed bully. She wants to be the center of attention and is extremely jealous of Kandi. She’s mean, evil and unhappy. NeNe needs to get a new weave and get over herself – enough said.
Kim is pathetic. To be in love with a married man and depend on him to take care of you and your kids is simply pitiful. She’s basically a high-priced hooker – if the price is right, then anyone can have her. What a poor excuse for a mother!
Sheree is selfish and an egomaniac. Sheree wants to appear as if she has everything together, but she doesn’t. She doesn’t even spend enough time with her kids. And, I hope she’s done with all of the damn parties for herself. Enough already! Also, I’m tired of seeing her friend Tania. Seems like she’s messy too and always has something to say. (Perhaps she’s vying for her spot next season).
Lisa is okay at times and likes to play the good girl role, but she really is just digging up dirt and gossip on everyone. People need to be careful what they tell her because she’ll rat you out.
Kandi is the best on the show. She’s very talented and is the most stable out of the bunch. It doesn’t really matter where a person is from – there are ghetto, country people from the north, south, east and west. Class, elegance and ladylike behavior is something that Kandi has and continues to display.
