Taylor Swift, post Kanye West, on… V-103? A strange Bull/V-103 connection
If you heard a Taylor Swift song on V-103 this morning, you weren’t imagining things.
Obviously, the Kanye West dissing of Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs last night was the talk of morning radio today. Frank Ski and Wanda Smith were excoriating West’s behavior, as was everybody else.
But Smith wondered why Swift didn’t thank Beyonce immediately for the airtime she gave Swift on stage later that night.
A 94.9/The Bull fan in his office overheard another colleague listening to V-103, according to Jason Pullman, Bull morning host. He thought Smith was overtly criticizing Swift so he called in to Pullman and Kristen Gates at the Bull. Pullman, curious, called V-103. The studio line was busy so he found the office line and got through to Ski and Smith live on the air.
So for the first time probably in the history of Atlanta radio, a country station morning team was gabbing with an R&B/hip-hop morning team at the same time. Ski said Smith clarified her position with Pullman and all was good in the world.
And probably at the risk of confusing its core audience, V-103 played “You Belong With Me,” Swift’s current hit song, which is actually a huge cross-over hit on Star 94 and Q100. And hey, why not? V-103’s morning show is No. 1 in Atlanta by a widening margin. They can do stuff like that and get away with it.
The Bull, in contrast, did not play any Kanye West songs. That would have caused a real ruckus, eh?

Why should Swift thank Beyonce? While I’m sure Beyonce thought calling Taylor back on stage was sweet gesture, all it really did was put this poor, traumatized child in another uncomfortable situation with which to deal. Taylor’s moment in the spotlight had already been ruined by thoughtless, racist black person that was unable to accept that a white artist won over a black artist.

Beyonce sat there and smiled at Kanye’s rude antics. I am sure it was her PR person who suggested she bring the little white girl back up on stage to cover up the fact that she (Beyonce) was smiling and laughing at the whole sad attempt to grab attention for a pitiful human being.

This entire incident served its purpose of putting Kane West’s name on every persons lips. He did what he did so everyone would think of him instead of those who really deserved remembering would not be including Beyonce. Who is he anyway, can someone remind me again?

Agreed. I didn’t (and do not) immediately think “Racism!” when i heard what happened and watched the video. I think Larry got it right, he was a drunk dude trying to make an impression on a beautiful woman – and it didn’t work. I don’t listen to Kanye, never have, and this just solidified it for me.
I am wondering if Leno will jump on stage during Kanye’s performance tonight on his show – haha, that would be the best. Leno rules!

I don’t think race had anything to do with it. I think Beyonce showed real class in what she did. Unlike Kanye who wouldn’t know class if it jumped up and bit him on his a$$. I would have loved to see Kanye try grabbing the mic out of Toby Keith’s hand, or Tim McGraw’s hand, or Ted Nugent’s hand or Charlie Pride’s hand, or Bill Cosby’s hand. I do truly believe that this was Kanye’s plan all along to grab attention for himself and to that he succeeded, everyone is talking about him today. I just hope everyone stops buying his CD’s and buying into his persona.

@Mike, I don’t think Beyonce was “smiling and laughing” at the situation, I think she thought she was being set up. Her laugh looked like one of those “I am so uncomfortable right now I don’t know what to do and now there is a camera in my face” and she was wildly looking around like she was waiting for the candid camera man to pop out.

I’m amazed at how fast some of you pulled the race card on this one. First of all it had nothing to do with race, as Kanye has supported numerous white artists. Second, Beyonce was not laughing in the audience. If you watch the playback you can clearly see she was surprised and embarrased. What is more alarming is the footage of him hitting the bottle really hard just before the show started. There is no difference between that and doing lines of coke – in front of the camera. This artist is in pain and he is trying to mask it with (at least one)substance and verbrato. You can see that he is living in a foggy and deluded world and HIS WORK (which COULD be truly great if he possessed humility) is about to suffer. He’s not yet humble enough to ask for help, so the people who care about him need to speak up louder – NOW. If this goes on for another 8 – 12 months he is going to implode.
