‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 6: who’s ghettoist of them all?
Loading ...This episode wasn’t the “snoozefest” Kim told me it would be. In fact, it was more entertaining than last week’s.
Perhaps the problem was the hour revolved more around NeNe than Kim, though a key moment did happen between Kim and Lisa. They reconciled — more or less.
Lisa was more upfront than Kim. She apologized for making light of Kim’s past illness. Kim, on the other hand, refused to admit she ever called Lisa a “crack whore” per se, that she was reading stuff from a blog describing Lisa as a “crack whore.” Lisa said she heard Kim was talking smack about her from multiple sources. Kim then went on a “I’m a parent, I’d never do that” speech, which Lisa didn’t buy off camera but nodded through with Kim.
“The namecalling, the shouting, it’s stupid,” Lisa said to Kim. “It’s so unproductive.” (Yet… oh, so entertaining.)
Lisa, being the bigger person, decided to just move on. And Kim was satisfied with Lisa’s apology. So they are now at least in truce mode.
Kim’s relationship with Sheree, since the wig-pulling routine, remains awkward though they at least talked later in the episode after ignoring each other at the King Tut trip in a previous show.
The focal point of the episode was NeNe directing the five of them for an “alter ego” shoot courtesy Derek Blank. The concept: play two characters and have them melded together via Photoshop.
NeNe wanted Kim to play a black girl. Kim refused. Instead, she played a Stepford Wife and a mistress. As NeNe said, “She should ace this one because she is a mistress!” (NeNe skipped directing that one portion.)
Kandi decided to play an evil drunk driver and the victim after a nephew of her fiance got hit by a drunk driver and was in a coma. It was quite emotional for her but she got through it and NeNe directed with compassion.
Lisa showed her acting chops by doing a good job playing a girl scout and a wacked out bad girl who had knocked her good girl persona off a bike.
Then everyone except Kim went over to Magic City strip club to do the photo shoots for Sheree and NeNe. Sheree was a bit offended at first that NeNe wanted her to play a bank robber robbing herself as a fashionista. The idea stems from how Sheree wanted to get “seven figures” from her ex husband (which she did not get in the end.)
But she actually enjoyed the play acting. “It felt kind of good to make a joke of it,” Sheree said. “NeNe’s suggestion wasn’t so bad after all.”
NeNe played a prim girl, embarrassed to be at a strip club — and a stripper. As noted in her book (but not directly on the show), she was a stripper for many years at places such as the Gold Club. So she did quite a good job working the pole and letting her friends fall out, forcing Bravo to liberally blur them out.
Earlier in the episode, the tensions between Kandi and NeNe popped up again. NeNe wanted Kandi to play a ghetto girl, which Kandi was mildly offended. NeNe, Kandi said, “is the ghettoist of us all!”
NeNe said, “I’m not from the ‘hood. I’m from Athens. I’m not from the projects.” But she admitted: “I can get hood on you. I will let a bitch have it.”
At the photo shoot, though, they liked how the other person directed them. So all is better — for now. (We know from earlier teases that this won’t last.)
Next week: Sheree thinks Lisa is copying her over fashion and shows up late to Lisa’s fashion show. Passive-aggressive, people?

i agree, this show was better than last week’s show. i was kind of disappointed that they didn’t show the finished product when the pictures were done. it would have been nice to see them.

Why is it this is the only city that the housewives do not have good grammar or english and act like they have no class and are from the hood. SO PATHETIC and embarrasing for Atlanta.

The truth you must know Kandi to make a statement like that, could you please define ghetto concerning Kandi? What has she done that she exudes ghetto, her choice of man, the song she sings, where she lives, her mothers neighborhood what? What’s embarrasiing is you can’t spell fiance’. I thought the show was refreshing last night they all seemed to be composed but that’s not what the audience wants to see. I still say Sheree should get soap in her mouth, Kim as well and she obviously has more going on than we know about she has a nanny a personal assistant she calls the black version of her but yet she didn’t want to be painted black. I think the real Alabama Kim is showing her true colors. Lisa did a class act to call a truce between Kim and herself and treat her with a long handle spoon. NeNe you my girl keep it coming girl, but you seem to have some control issues let’s hope that’s not true. The photo’s can’t wait to see them, Dwight was wearing them shoes and he made a valid statement about Kim she looked good with the black wig and it did make hey eyes pop, in the blonde wig her face is long and drawn out like a hound dog ( just my opinion). “Smooches”

I disagree with The Truth, the cast has a good command of the English language. I do not personally know Kandi;however,it does not sound to me that she use a lot of broken English. Speaking of correct grammar, I would strongly suggest you revise your blog.

Whew… I don’t see where anyone can call Khandi Ghetto/hood; she seems to be a classy, fun and intelligent woman. I am really starting to enjoy Kim. I like her the best. Lisa, She-Ray and NeNe are D-E-S-P-A-R-A-T-E! NeNe used to be my favorite but not this season. She has changed from the lighthearted funny girl into this meanspirited evil hood rat. Thank heavens we we only had to watch dreadful dwight for two minutes. His face lift has squeezed his brain too tight. Lisa and She-Ray bore the hell out of me. Gawd, did we need anymore reason to be ill today than have to have a visual of She-Ray’s bald cootchie? Real Classy.

Alright……….Ladies. Nene first as always. I luv you. Its funny how you seem to be in almost all the scenes. But you keep the show entertaining.You did a good job directing. Lisa I must say I enjoyed watching you last night. You weren’t fake at all. KIMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm. Why is it that in season one you said ”I’m a black girl trapped in a white girl’s body”. KIM I really try to be on your side but after last night that’s it. And you wonder why everybody’s always dogging you. Now don’t you know how much props you would have gotten if you would have played the black girl. I don’t blame Nene for walking out on your a**. The stepford wife, B(*^^ please. and alter ego. Girl you are a mistress!!! I just wish you would have did the black girl. Well you will always continue to get dogged. and didn’t Nene tell your a** last week, ”to get black quick cause she wasn’t going to have time for you at the photo shoot”. Sheree I can’t help but laugh at the opening of the show when you say, ”People are intimidated by my sucess” LOL. But back to the show last night. I really liked you last night too. You were sincere with Kandi and at least you tried to talk to Kim. Kandi I must say it looks like you got a little acting in you girl. You and Nene make me laugh. Won’t ya’ll just fuss or fight already. I do see that Nene tries to get her jabs in. And yes you do get her back. Very entertaining. Nene is my girl but she is ghetto. They absolutely do not speak well. Nene sounds as though she is trying sooo hard to speak correct grammar. But the southern twang or whatever it is that makes her words sound so like they’ve rolled around in the back of her throat before they come of her mouth just kills it. She may try to speak proper, and I believe there is nothing wrong with trying to improve oneself, but she has a long way to go. A long way.
It is also obvious that Sheree too tries really hard to make her speech sound more proper, and less ghetto. Good work, she is almost there.
Lisa is just herself, she is definitely not as hood or ghetto as the others and it comes across in her speech.
Kim, well, what can I say. She seems like she tries to moderate her speech in order to sound a certain way. What way that is, I couldn’t tell you, but it’s definitely a character. Notice how she holds or moves her hands when she’s talking bad,”my house, my kids, my life”. LOL!! Too Funny.

This show is not for primetime TV. Already we have enough of cussing, defaming one and the other; making life seen easy and giving people a false sense that life is just like that. All this program has been is bikkering between one and the other…it make no sense and nothing is being accomplished and fight be it words or actions on any of the party’s behalf, it is not making anything better nor is anyone of them reaching a common goal. Dinning out, looking fly, driving this or that, living here and there….anybody can do it and it really do not make any of us any better than the other. I hope this program is coming to an end and there will be no more housewives here in Atlanta having this tpe of life.

She-Ray is the one behind all the gossip. At the infamous wig pulling intervention, it was She-Ray that told NeNe what Kim said. Last night we got to her Lisa tell Kim that it was She-Ray that told her Kim called her a Crack-wh*re…Yep and then who told Kim all of Khandi’s business — SHE-RAY the pathetic low class wannabe.
Lisa made an impression by trying to make amends with Kim, I think I may like Lisa and Kim being friends.

I don’t know how I allowed myself to get roped into this MESS, but alas…Anyway, Nene is THE MOST GHETTO of them all! I think she’s getting paid more to keep the drama going & her extra paycheck is well-deserved. The sad part about all this is she actually believes she’s rich. Rich people don’t broadcast who/what there are – they just ARE! You do not have wealth just because you live in a big house or drive a nice car. True wealth runs DEEP & outlast the person that originally obtained it. Nene will be broke & insignificant in 20 years. Kandi does seem to have the most class & be the most financially sound & independent, even though she has a relaxed accent & speech pattern. Kim is trash – Sorry. Lisa kinda gets on my nerves sometimes, but I respect the way she squashed the drama between her & Kim. Sheree needs to stay away from the gym for a while – the muscles are looking WAY too manly. I hate that the shows representing Atlanta reflect women who have not worked & earned their own way.

I really like the show its very entertaining I don’t take it serious to the point I think it represents me or my charater as a Real Housewife of Atlanta, but the next time Bravo choose to do a show about Atlanta Houswives I wish they would bring a more serious show to light about Real Houswives Of Atlanta, first, real Georgia Peaches that are born and raised in Atlanta, second, women that maintain a Job, Family and a social life, real housewives don’t have time to stay at the nail salons and go get chemical peels and meet for lunch and dinner daily. I think if Bravo would show the Real true Housewives of Atlanta it would be a better fit for TV and it would be more of a show that the Real Housewives Of Atlanta could relate too.

Lisa gets sued by ex-husband,has clothes fit for clowns,and a husband who is the poorest “baller” in the city. Fabulous. Foreclosures,bar room brawls,and no baby daddy in sight(KIM)…….yeah these people are Atlanta’s elite……..More like our shame.

OK, enough! Bravo, can you give us something else! We’re living in a state that’s running out of water. A state government that wants to “Opt Out-of Government Health Care . But, yet is using Federal government Stimulus money and asking the federal government for help regarding the water issue between Fl and AL. These are the real problems in Georgia and Atlanta. NOT, skeezers, hoodats, hoochies,scumbags and Trailer park trash. I saw this on a daily basis walking are Atlanta, Ga and the state of GA. (which by the way is always dead last in SATS and everything else).Can you show me a Black female from Emory, UGA , Spellman or Clark-Atlanta who’s a lawyer, Doctor ect.. Well groomed and articulate?

Some really great comments here. Some really funny – tongue in cheek – comments as well. And some dumb ones. I believe that RW’s comment about showing professional African Americans is best. But such a show – or one with TRUE socialites or people of REAL wealth (no matter what race they are) – would be BORRRRRINGGG! That is not what America wants. These women satisfy that – and I am obviously part of that because I watch this stupid show.
I’m really curious about how these people support themselves. Kim was driving a Bentley this season and now has a staff. She still drives the Range Rover that her last sugar daddy paid for. Sheree doesn’t seem to work and lost her divorce which would have paid her all of “seven figures” (which would have last her all of a few months). NeNe doesn’t work and lives in a house that is obviously unfurnished and, as the world knows, rented. Her husband simply cannot have any money and still be a real estate developer and have the time to drive her around (what’s with sitting in the back seat?). This is 2009 and real estate builders and developers are broke. Lisa’s husband is out of a job and they just moved as well (anyone read the debate as to whether they lost their house through foreclosure or just gave it back when they elected to stop making mortgage payments?). Kim is the only one with substance – a real person who has made something of herself. OK – so she has made some bad personal choices and continues to do so. But that’s another story.
People who watch this show (including myself) are being fed what Bravo has decided will sell – and it obviously does.
