Project Runway: Intro to the red carpet

Heidi Klum returns for Season 6 of 'Project Runway,' now on Lifetime.

Heidi Klum returns for Season 6 of 'Project Runway'

Welcome to another season of ‘Project Runway’! My name is Faith Dawson. Thanks to Rodney Ho, whose Radio and TV Talk blog will play host to the fashion crowd on Friday mornings.

Episode 1
The winner: Christopher, designer of a generic two-tone strapless party dress
The loser: Ari, lover of Space Age soccer-ball hoodies

Season 6 of ‘Project Runway’ was worth the wait, with a diverse cast (age, ethnicity, size, POV),  but I was disappointed that right away the judges booted the designer with the far-out aesthetic, Ari Fish. Ari could have provided some truly artistic (if not necessarily wearable) designs this season. I really thought they would have sent Qristyl packing without a second thought.

The winning design, a froth of black skirt with layers of taupe ruffles underneath, failed to excite me, though it was pretty enough. Speaking of a pretty froth, I hope Lindsay Lohan does not return as a guest judge.

Georgia connection: Mitchell Hall, he of the see-through, unfinished caftan, lists Savannah as his hometown.

Did you find the transition to Lifetime smooth? No coincidence that tears fell right away … And did anybody watch the All-Star Challenge (beforehand) or Models of the Runway (after)? I watched the All-Star Challenge, thinking that Atlantan Mychael Knight didn’t put enough effort in, that Korto and Chris were robbed, and that I must have missed something in Daniel’s collection. Let us know what you think!

O-M-G!!! I think that LA is the perfect back drop for the new ‘Runway’ and I’m really excited for this season. This year is all about the ladies in my opinion (sans Ari). I’m hoping Johnny doesn’t fall into a drug relapse and I’m pulling for him to go far.

Let me just say that the b-side of the show, “Models of the Runway” is just as interesting. Its kinda cool to see what their perspective of the competition and it definitely adds a bit of scandal in the tense selection process ending each episode.

Bravo – for Lifetime!!!

I did watch the All-Star Challenge, i didn’t get Daniel collection, though in the past
i like his clothes.

It was a hour, that unfortunately i can’t get back. The new season, was
boring, Nina and Michael are still goint to be the judges? Yuck! throwing Lindsay Lohann in the mix,
as a guest judge really dimmed the shows quality for me.

the only reason ari went home is because she so clearly went against the goal of making something that was appropriate for the red carpet. but the dress that Qristyl put together was absolutely TERRIBLE. like they said, the seam on the front seemed crooked and of poor quality. the colors were loud and tacky. she lucked out. i hope that this experience makes her better. the funny thing is that i looked at her website and she’s actually pretty good. i’d seriously consider buying some of these things. after looking at the website, i’m glad they kept her.

Who won the All-Star challenge?? I wasn’t able to watch the end.
Good Lord, Lindsey Lohan???? She has NO taste in fashion. I guess they were desperate.

Although Daniel received high marks for being edgy, Korto clearly had the style. Her restaurant collection was amazing. I believe it was Micheal Kors who commented on the restaurant collection could have been the runway collection. Korta was again disappointed as she should be; however, even though she considered herself as the “number two girl”, she’s number one in my book.

Daniel should not have won. Korto is a sore loser — her attitude will be her obstacle going forwrad. Yes, she should have won, but stomping off the runway after Diane Von Furstenberg praised her work was just stupid and immature. Uli should not have been in the low four — her executive is impeccable. Chris was near cardiac arrest, and what was up with him sleeping all the time. Three words, Chris: Join a gym. Surprisingly, Santino and Jeffrey cranked out garbage — they didn’t seem to care except to run their mouths in the classic obnoxious way we all know and love. Sweet P’s collection was very surprising — she sure has evolved. Would prefer to see the show back in NYC.

The 1st episode was fun! I didn’t get Ari point of view either. Though it seems over stated I agree that if no one wants to buy or wear a garment it’s not fashion.
I saw the pre-show & loved Chris, Sweet Pea & Korto’s collections. Either of the 3 as winner would’ve work for me. I thought Daniel worked for Micheal Kors after his season on runway so; was it fair he won (potential biases maybe). I keep thinking it’s my tv & maybe the stuff that wins looks better in person and that’s why it is being chosen above what looks pretty on my set. Oh well; it’s just clothes!

I don’t know how Daniel won on the All-Star Challenge. I only liked one piece in his collection. Korto did an excellent job and should have won. I’m so proud of Christopher. I think Lindsay Lohan was poised and knowledgable. She did a great job. I can’t wait to see the next episode. It was a waste of time to move it to Lifetime.

I enjoyed the show last night but felt Korto Momolu was robbed of winning the All-Star Challenge, I though her clothes were much more appealing than Daniel Vosovic’s. I am also disappointed that Chris March’s clothes were not placed higher I though they were outstanding.

But the delight of the evening goes to Tim Gunn for the way he handled the designer that had a panic attack before the challenge began; and whose red dress was a sunner! I am happy the show is back I have missed it while it was gone. Oh, by the way the contestant that was sent home deserved to have been; she was a space cadet and her outfit was not worthy of this calibre of show.

Korto was robbed! Daniel’s collection was beautiful, but that hoochified-suicide-bomber restaurant look was neither amusing nor fashion forward. It was just plain wrong. I love me some Daniel, but that restaurant get-up killed it for me. Majorly disappointed in Keith, Suck-Azz Jeff and Sweet P. Thought Ulie should have been in the top four. Re the show: Love ALL the new contestants, but i thought Crystal should have taken her Q home along with that Family Dollar Store dress she made. It was just awful. I would have kept Ari The Airhead just because she is so different and interesting. I could see enya or courtney cox wearing that space suit on the red carpet.

* How did Uli get in the bottom four, indeed?! Easily one of the best.
* Yes, Korto was indeed robbed. What they saw in Daniel’s work that was so amazing, well, it is beyond me. Ugly, messy, and forced modernity. Good to see Chris finish high, though.
* The new show is good, thoug a big predictable. I wonder if they did that to familiarize the average Lifetime viewer. Lindsay Lohan does NOTHING for me as a guest judget. Airhead.
* Sorry to see Ari go even she didn’t listen to what the challenge was about. She’s got skills, and previous “PR” seasons have shown contestants like her make for good TV and often go far in the competition despite their stubbornness. She’ll be missed. Glad to see the Savannah Kid make it, but as they say on the new Bravo Fashion Show, he’s hanging by a thread.

[...] had no complaint with the winning design, but I thought that for the second consecutive week, the judges made a mistake in sending home the designer with an overreaching artistic narrative. [...]
