Which TV stars are coming to DragonCon? Leonard Nimoy, John Schneider, Malcolm McDowell, Lou Ferrigno, Patrick Stewart

Atlanta’s coolest sci-fi convention DragonCon is just 16 days away and fans of “The Incredible Hulk,” “Dukes of Hazzard,” “Battlestar Galactica” (the original and the recent version) and “Star Trek” should be thrilled.

The convention is now at four hotels: The Hyatt, the Marriott, the Hilton and the Sheraton. It happens Sept. 4 to 7.

Among the attendees this year include:

Leonard Nimoy, best known as Spock on “Star Trek”

— Charisma Carpenter, a star on “Buffy the Vampire Star” and “Angel”

Edward James Olmos, played Admiral William Adama on the just ended “Battlestar Galactica.” His other credits include “American Family” and “Miami Vice.”

 — Patrick Stewart. Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek: The Next Generation”

— John Schneider. A North Springs High School grad, he is best known as Bo Duke on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” with a big role on “Smallville” as Clark Kent’s adoptive dad for 111 episodes.

— Catherine Bach. Daisy Duke on “The Dukes of Hazzard”

— Malcolm McDowell. Star of “Clockwork Orange.” Recently had a meaty role in “Heroes.” And the man who killed Captain Kirk in the film “Star Trek Generations.”

Lou Ferrigno, “The Incredible Hulk,” who plays himself in “I Love You,Man” and recently helped Michael Jackson work out before MJ died. Rumors of him joining “Dancing With the Stars’ did not come to pass.

— Kate Mulgrew. Capt. Kathryn Janeway on “Star Trek: Voyager”

— Gil Gerard. Star of “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”

Richard Hatch. The original star of “Battlestar Galactica.” (No, not the naked guy and tax cheat from “Survivor”)

— Kristy Swanson. The original film star of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”

— Traci Lords. Former porn star became a respectable actress.

— Terry Gilliam. Part of “Monty Python” and a director of films such as “12 Monkeys” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.”

Barry Bostwick. Star of “Rock Horror Picture Show” and was in “Spin City.”

This is not San Diego’s ever-growing ComicCon, which is now a great venue for networks to promote shows such as “Lost,” “Heroes” and “Fringe.” Dragoncon gets none of that. Why? Mostly timing — and location.

Most actors are on the West Coast. Plus, all current shows will be production by the first week of September. So the show producers have to rely on oldies but goodies who don’t mind making a few bucks meeting with fans.

Each celebrity sets aside time to sit at the “Walk of Fame” where you can pay x number of dollars to get their autographs and in some cases, your photos taken with them. It’s a pretty brutally capitalistic place. Popular folks can charge more, lesser known celebrities far less. And if they overprice themselves or are really have lost their luster, they might just be sitting them forlorn, alone.

There are a LOT more guests coming than just these 15. A couple hundred total. I’ve been to Comicon and Dragoncon and I think Dragoncon is the better value. There is a lot more to see and do and more chances to meet these famous people. At Comicon, there’s really not that much to do beyond the star presentations (good luck getting in to them) and it closes up at 8 at night. Dragoncon runs things all night.

DragonCon should ease back on the high dollar celebrities and return to their roots. It is too expensive for what it has become.

Does anyone know if DRAGON*CON is a good place to find action figures at a decent cost (McFarlane, Marvel Legends, DC Direct, etc.)?

So Draggin*Conned should return to its “roots”? And, that would be a bunch of heavy metalled S/M assembled by its child molesting founder? Any truth to the rumour that ol’ [p]Ed himself is gonna autographed oatmeal boxes? Does he still get his under-the-table cut from the proceeds. Seriously, fans, only dysfunctional basement-dwelling geeks care about this assortment of weirdos, flocking to endless boring “panel discussions” and standing in line to gush over some alcoholic has-been.

Geek and nerd and proud of it. For starters, I understand the correct way to apply English punctuation and the proper application of the shift key on my computer’s keyboard.

Also, there are actually over 500 confirmed celebrity guests this year at Dragon*Con.

Rodney, you need to update this post. It’s official – The Shat has been confirmed. Yes, indeed, Captain Kirk will be in attendance this year! You have Shatner, Nimoy, and Stewart all together at one Con. It’s now official – H*** has frozen over!

I think they should prop up Forry Ackerman’s corpse, just to annoy Harlan Ellison.

Man I wish I could go this year. The line up Rodney just listed has a lot of stars from a lot of the shows I watched as a kid and still watch in reruns. Out of all of them though I’d just be thrilled to meet Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgruw.

Mister Touchdown – wow, some anger there. I have gone for the last three years straight and for my money, this is some of the most fun you can have in Atlanta, hands down. Went to the Battlestar Galactica panel with Edward James Olmos, the Ghost Hunter panel, got a sketch drawn by the writers of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and had drinks with Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) from Smallville. Not to mention the blow out parties and general craziness running around the hotels. And before you label me, I play league tennis, softball and kickball, have season tix to the Falcons and have a full bar in my dining room. So, if you drop your preconceived notions of cool and loosen up a little, you might just meet some really interesting and fun people. Well, maybe not you. But other people reading this might.
