Reality shows including “Real Housewives of Atlanta” dominate Atlanta TV ratings, Drake and Green Day top Atlanta radio songs

The debut of the second season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” ranked 209th among all primetime programs last week, not counting pay cable. That meant 2.7 million viewers, still an excellent number for Bravo.

In the hometown of Atlanta, the dishy reality show came in ninth with 187,000 viewers, ahead of “The Closer” on TNT, the Wednesday edition of “America’s Got Talent” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” No surprise. Let’s see how many stick around tonight.

By its fourth outing, “Tiny & Toya” in BET had lost half of its first-week audience. It was down to 1.5 million July 28, compared to 3.1 million week one, 1.9 million week two and 1.8 million for the third episode. The show is far less glitzy and drama-filled as “Real Housewives of Atlanta” and that may be causing viewers to go elsewhere.

Lifetime TV’s charming dramedy “Drop Dead Diva,” shot in Peachtree City, continues to hold its audience. This past Sunday, the new show drew 2.6 million viewers, comparable to 2.8 million last week. 2.5 million week two and 2.8 million week one. With this level of consistency, I bet a renewal notice is just around the corner for a second season.

Food Network’s “Next Food Network Star” finale gave the network its biggest ratings ever Sunday at 4.7 million. (It didn’t make the top 30 in Atlanta.) Dark horse Melissa d’Arabian, the stay-at-home mom with the big smile and big eyes and some impressive cooking expertise, won. She beat early frontrunner Jeffrey Saad. Jamika Pessoa from Atlanta came in fourth and was eliminated two weeks ago.

Overall, reality TV was the rage for Atlanta viewers the week of July 27. The top scripted program? A repeat of “House,” ranked 11th.
