Morning Mess’ Shannon Murphy has a new gig… in Detroit
Pixie-like Shannon Murphy, whose foray in Atlanta morning radio at Star 94 lasted just over a year with the Morning Mess, has attached herself to a new morning show — in Detroit.
She is splitting from her co-horts Marc “Marco” Orem and “Superphat” Mikey Dennison. Instead, she joins Mojo in the Morning on Channel 9-5-5 in Detroit, her hometown. She starts August 10.
“I love these guys,” she said. “I really do. But this new opportunity is too good to pass up.” She compared MoJo to the Bert Show of Detroit.
Norm Schrutt, their agent, shopped the trio around as the Mess for three months but with no definitive bites, began seeking jobs for them in pieces. It’s not small coincidence that Schrutt happens to represent Mojo in the Morning as well.
Loading ...Murphy, many believe, was the strongest of the trio, who came to Atlanta in December 2007 after Star let go Steve & Vikki (now at B98.5). The show itself was an attempt to draw a younger audience to Star 94. But it was a bit too young sounding and lost far more of its older listeners than it drew new ones. Ratings were mediocre at best. And the threesome were not happy as management reined in their antics in an attempt to fix the damage.
Mikey, Shannon said, is currently working for his dad’s company in Indianapolis in some sales position at a construction parts firm. Marco is pondering options, she said.
And she said she is moving on personally too. She and Matt Thiessen of the band Relient K had been set to get married later this month but she broke off the engagement. “I’m not bitter by any means,” she said. “I just now have a different outlook on my life. You take a deep breath and keep going.”
So Star replaced the Mess in March with Cindy & Ray, the established afternoon team, which has proceeded to build bigger numbers almost immediately.

She was engaged to Matt Thiessen, the lead singer of the Christian band Relient K. They met while his band made an appearance on The Morning Mess. They were slated to get maried on August 22, but apparently broke up just before then. I know this has nothing to do with her new gig, but it is an interesting anecdtoe.

Not sure which is worse – working in Detroit or being a Clear Channel employee, or in Shannon’s case, BOTH! Oh well, don’t get too settled in that rat hole of a city because Clear Channel is bankrupt.

Matthew Thiessen did not cheat on Shannon Murphy. A close friend of Matt’s told him that God had someone better in store for him. He told Shannon and she couldn’t handle it and called it off. On her blog she posted “I called it off after learning a few things about Matt that I simply just could not handle.”
On “The Morning Mess” Shannon said “I don’t even believe in God” [0:55 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O54nG0y1Qk and as most of you know Matt Thiessen is the lead singer of a Christian band.. so what God thinks means a lot to him; but probably not so much to Shannon.

I hated The Morning Mess show…it was a MESS. I’m glad they disbanded and won’t corrupt another city…lol. Not to be a total hater…I’m sure they are good people but the show sucked. Cindy and Ray are awesome! I wish Shannon all the best. I do think she is talented…just was stuck in a bad show.
I do think Matt cheated on her a couple of times…and the last time was the final straw for her.

Shannon has said herself on mojo that Matt did cheat on her for 4 years and that is why they split. Personally, I think she is a boring addition to the morning show. She has nothing to talk about.

i knew matt was going out with some shannon but didnt know it was her, she’s ok on radio, but she should never have let him go, he is seriously an amazing artist and person i presume, not to mention so cute!

OK, bad on radio, and I agree with brit, she is just tryin to get atttention. Hasn’t anyone even HEARD Forget and Not Slow Down?!??!?! ITS SO SAD! The new RK album is dripping with depression, sadness, and anger over HER DUMPING HIM! I don’t believe that he cheated. Like the rest of RK said, anytime that he wasn’t with them, he was with her . Seriously. Matt. Did. Not. Cheat. Period.
