Night jock English Nick leaves Rock 100.5

English Nick, who was a long-time jock at 96rock and has been doing nights at Rock 100.5, has left the building.

The popular jock, who hosts “Metalsome Mondays” live karaoke at 10High three days a week, is more of a metal guy and when Rock 100.5 shifted to a more Dave FM-style music mix, it was clear Nick wasn’t in the right place anymore.

“We love Nick,” said operations manager Rob Roberts. “He’s one of the greatest guys. I continue to be a member of his fan club. It was a mutual change.” He acknowledged the music shift “probably factored” into the shift.

English Nick said he was willing to roll with the punches when it comes to the music. “Unless you own the radio station, you can’t choose the music,” he said.

“It’s crazy,” he added, “that live band karaoke is now the most stable thing in my life.”

He said he was a “bit miffed” being let go but he figures it was cost cutting. “The industry is so up in the air, you expect it,” he said. “It’s the nature of the beast.”

English Nick also helps run an ice cream/tea cafe called Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party in Candler Park.

Matt “Organic” Jones is filling in at nights. A permanent host has not yet been found.

Here was his English Nick promo on the station:

That’s too bad. He was one of the better jocks on the air.

Nick is one of the best Atlanta DJs out there. A shame he got the boot and a shame that ROCK 100 could not keep Hard Rock oriented. It was a much better station when they started than they are now.. Back to XM where there are two hard rock stations Boneyard and Hair Nation

Why don’t they just go ahead and change their call letters to WUSS?? It would stand for We Unite Shi*** Songs! Seriously, that station was really great for the first 3 months, then it started wussing out, even their prizes they give away suck, what’s next Free Douche Bags???? Give it up, you can’t fire your way into a profit!

Nick IS rock-n-roll! And, obviously, they’ll have none of that at 100.5. He was doomed. Angel III rules!

Sorry but I have to disagree, Nick may have been a character on 100.5 but when I listened he RARELY played anything that would resemble Heavy Metal, all I heard was a bunch of nonsense and British BS

Soon enough, all the radio stations will be known by first names like dave FM, Rick ( not Rock) 100.5, Starch 94, 95.5 the Brat, etc. and they all will play the same songs every day. That’s the future of radio in the modern era. How unoriginal can things be? UGH!

finally, you amuse me so.

As for English Nick, the station kind of left him. It seems stupid to let him go when the format is going to need another change soon anyway, though. We don;t need two Daves, and even though I can’t stand old hard rock and most metal, it was a much better use of the signal.

English Nick cut loose, hopefully Regular Boys are next and then grown ups can actually listen to Rock 100.5 all the time. And people who think guys with long/big pretty hair playing 3 crunch cords is good rock just need to get Satellite radio in their trailers so they can air guitar and feel tough – that always impresses the ladies!

Tough breaks… First he gets screwed by Clear Channel, then gets stuck with the worst format idea since Planet Radio. The Regular Guys are great, but I’m not a fan of the quality rock “format” on 100.5.

English Nick is a class act and I wish him the best!

They’ve taken the “Rock” out of Rock 100.5. Very little classic rock left in Atlanta, unless you want to hear Elton John, Styx, and the Eagles cycled over and over. . . .

I travel for a living and when I come back to Atlanta, I realize the quality of radio really sucks in this city. It seems that the same 2-3 people or companies control everything is played on the airwaves here. Most of it is the same recycled crap we have been here for decades. Atlanta radio, wake up and do some research. There are many may stations around the country and around the world who are getting it right and doing things right. Learn from other stations and give Atlanta a few quality stations which will play a variety of songs and formats, not the same old boring, tasteless, mindless play lists over and over and over. Give the DJ’s more freedom with their song selections and if they lose their audience, fire them…if they gain an audience, bingo! It’s a simple formula.
