Good Day Atlanta adds a third hour

The long-running morning show “Good Day Atlanta” on Fox 5 is going to add a third hour starting in September.

The syndicated “Morning Show With Mike and Juliet” goes away at 9 a.m., replaced by that third hour of GDA. At 10 a.m., two judge shows will be taken over by NY radio personality’s new talk show “The Wendy Williams Show.” (I interviewed her today and will post that talk closer to the launch date.)

Co-hosts Suchitha Vadlamani and Mark Hayes, who also work from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., couldn’t be reached for comment but general manager Gene McHugh said he may rearrange the schedule so they don’t work the entire five hours.

McHugh said many musical artists have a hard time getting up in time for the 8 a.m. hour so adding the extra 9 a.m. will enable Fox to get more of them to show up and sing. More lighter lifestyle features will also be placed in the 9 a.m. hour, he said.

Would you watch a third hour of "Good Day Atlanta" at 9 a.m.?

The Road Warrior features, which had for years been done by a single person (e.g. Brett Martin and Mark Hyman) are being rotated now using multiple people. McHugh seems to like it that way. For instance, today, Karen Graham (normally weekend sports anchor) did a piece at the Go Green Expo:

McHugh said she and Buck Lanford are able to broaden their scopes beyond sports by doing Road Warrior.

Why dont they limit this debacle to 15 minutes or at most 30 minutes. The show SUCKS.

Why would musical artists be encouraged to show up for the 3 hour when most viewers will be at or driving to work. If waking up early is too much trouble then maybe spending 13 bucks on a cd is too much work as well.

I actually really like Good Day. It’s upbeat and focuses on local bands, shows and activities. It’s refreshing to get some good news for a change!

Wow!!! I couldnt get enough of weather and traffic for two hours!! Now I get it for 3 STRAIGHT FREAKIN HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get real, if we want weather we go to the Weather Channel and we dont need a traffic report; we live in ATLANTA, we know how our traffic is everyday!! If you are going to stretch the show to 3 hours, please give it some variety.

This is channel 5’s wish to run their channel WITH NEWS ONLY for 24 hours! I remember when they pulled The Price is Right of the air for a judge show! But if 5 had their druthers, they’d run their flippin’ news for 24 hours.

It’s not about good tv. It’s about putting on the cheapest TV as possible. Fox is lost. They’re having huge financial issues and waga is really stuck.

Bug, good luck. More drivel. More boring TV. Hope you get a demo.

The show is a good idea, but the hosts are bad. They are not energetic, and they are too robotic and worried about the teleprompter. When you read from a teleprompter, people are not supposed to tell that you are doing that! Mark Hayes and Suchita or Stacy Elgin would be much better!!!

I agree with the last post. Stacy Elgin would be great hosting the show!
