Real Housewives of Atlanta coming back July 30
Loading ...I know. It seems like they never went away but Bravo is bringing back “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” July 30 at 10 p.m.
Season two was shot here in April and May.
After the nutty first season and the best first-season ratings to date, the Atlanta ladies were overshadowed by “New Jersey,” which just concluded the biggest “Real Housewives” series of the four.
With DeShawn Snow gone for the mortal sin of being boring, the show will feature R&B singer and songwriter Kandi Burruss as the fifth housewife. Sassy Lisa Wu Hartwell, fashion wannabe Sheree Whitfield, Kim “Big Poppa” Zolciak and NeNe “Don’t Mess With Me” Leakes will be back. Based on what we’ve heard, there will be plenty of fireworks and fisticuffs. Because, well, isn’t that what Bravo is paying them six figures to do?
Here are the bios provided by Bravo publicity:
Kandi Burruss – Kandi is a Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter who resides in Atlanta with her live-in fiancé and six-year-old daughter Riley. She is a former member of the platinum-selling musical group Xscape, and won a Grammy Award for her work on TLC’s mega hit “No Scrubs.” She has also written music for artists that include Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys. Kandi juggles her busy life as a single mom and hard working career woman, but also finds time to let loose on the Atlanta social scene, stepping out with members of the music industry’s elite.
Jumping into the mix as the newest housewife with help from friend Lisa, Kandi wastes no time acclimating herself to the group. Recently engaged to fiancé AJ, she balances being a mom and planning her dream wedding, with launching a solo career and working on a new album.
Kim Zolciak – Vivacious single mom Kim lives in a gated townhouse community in Duluth, Ga. with her two children, Brielle and Ariana. She has her sights set on fame in the music business as a country singer, and is a staple on the Atlanta social scene.
Kim continues to live life out loud. After a somewhat rocky breakup with mysterious boyfriend “Big Poppa,” [well, we know it's Lee Najjar] she vows to enjoy life as a single woman, but her roller coaster relationship with him keeps her love life somewhat complicated. Always on the go, she continues to focus on the daunting task of launching her country music career, with help from new housewife and music artist Kandi, and also decides to create her own line of wigs. Drama rears its ugly head as her somewhat tumultuous relationships with the other housewives continue to evolve.
Lisa Wu Hartwell – Lisa, a resident of a luxurious country club community in Duluth, Ga. and a busy career woman, wears many hats. She owns her own real estate firm, Hartwell & Associates, a jewelry line called Wu Girls, a baby clothing line, Hart 2 Hart Baby, and juggles a budding acting, modeling and writing career. She’s a devoted wife to husband, NFL player Ed Hartwell.
Living a fast-paced life as a mother of three, Lisa’s never-ending energy keeps her on the move. With her real estate business slowing because of the economy, her entrepreneurial spirit kicks in and she decides to launch a clothing line, “Closet Freak.” To her surprise, she finds her biological clock is ticking, and debates expanding her family by having another baby, but Ed’s NFL career might throw a wrench in the plans. Lisa is thrown into the midst of all the drama between the other housewives as old rumors resurface.
NeNe Leakes – NeNe is an outspoken social butterfly and resides in the upscale Duluth area of Atlanta with her two boys, Brice and Brentt, and husband Gregg. She donates her time to various charities and is an advocate against domestic abuse.
NeNe continues to take the world by storm. Busy on the charity circuit preparing for her second annual event for women against domestic violence, she is also dealing with the emotional search for her biological father while taking care of her family. NeNe wrote a book on her life experiences that will be out later this year, in hopes that she can give advice to young women who face difficult issues like she did growing up. While her no-nonsense, tell it like it is approach sometimes gets her in trouble, she continues to explore her ever-evolving friendships with the other housewives, with some dramatic results.
Sheree Whitfield – a single socialite and resident of the exclusive Sandy Springs area of Atlanta, Sheree manages her jam-packed calendar as a working mother to three children – Tierra, Kairo and Kaleigh. She is opening a new chapter in her busy life as a mom while balancing her business endeavors and social life.
Coming off a much-publicized divorce, Sheree is ready to put the past behind her and focus on being a single mom and entrepreneur. To celebrate her new life, she delves into her work, with her “She by Sheree” fashion line moving along nicely and preparations underway for a major fashion show to debut the line. With encouragement from her friends, Sheree debates jumping back into the dating game, and her relationships with some of the other housewives take a surprising turn.

Someone please explain to me how this is a show about “Housewives” I’m sorry, there is a definite difference and social dynamic to actually being married. These women would carry themselves much differently if they were married.
This show has nothing to do with being housewives. Those ladies out there watching on TV should feel irritated that Bravo continually pumps up all these shows as if the women were married.
This is like Miss Sophia (Tranny) on the V-103 show talking about womens’ issues.

None of these women are ’socialites’, only a couple are wives, and not one of them actually lives in Atlanta. I don’t begrudge them their 15 minutes, and I actually enjoy watching some of them, although Sheree is the most pretentious woman I have ever seen. It is a joke that she lives in ‘exclusive’ Sandy Springs, since she is a RENTER. She ain’t got a pot to *** in, and really she is too much of a desperate wannabe. I turn off the show when she comes on, I can’t stand it. NeNe is great! I like her the most. She seems normal, and her family really loves her.

I know Kandi personally and she will not make a good fit for this show. Her personality is very sweet, but she will not provide the drama the producers want. In fact, she and DeShawn Snow have similar personalities. She will be very boring on this show. Trust me. Too bad Usher’s soon to be ex wife, Tameka Foster, didn’t agree to do the show. She is drama all day and all night.

I don’t have a problem with the show I actually like to watch it.
But has anyone noticed that in the Housewives of Orange County, NY, and Jersey not one of the housewives is African American.
So why would a mix-up have to come about, when doing the Housewives of Atlanta?
The other shows didn’t mix up the flavor, so to speak.
Even though Kim states that she a Black woman trapped in a white body. That doesn’t make her black!!!!

This show is merely entertainment; somebody watches it- because they brought it back. Yes not just white women are socialites; I agree. However, I don’t think Kim Zolciak, Sheree Whitfield, and NeNe Leakes are socialites. Maybe Lisa Wu Hartwell, but thats a strong maybe. I have seen Kim Zolciak out and about and frankly she is pretty scary looking and VERY RUDE and SNOBBISH. For what reason I am not sure. It’s ashame about Sheree’s home; although she said on last season’s show she did not live on a budget and dropping big bucks on clothes and shoes was not a big deal. Maybe not, but clearly her priorities are screwed up. NeNe got evicted; Deshawn got the boot and Lisa is really rather boring. People that are “socialites” do not need to advertise how much money he/she has or who they are bed hopping with. Real money is quite and large; new money is loud and obnoxious.

I tried watching this show, but I like the Real Housewives of Orange County. They are my favorite of all. The RHNYC is next. The New Jersey wives are just enjoying their husbands money. Orange County Housewives are ballers, they do a lot of traveling which the other show housewives do not.

As an African American women I do feel that could have found a better mix of elite, professonal “married” women (Black or White) to represent the ATL – women who have lives that don’t derive from someone elses money – Lisa did have the smarts to get her realty license and start her own business (es) – she made her own path – the others had a few coins due to who they married – people with real wealth don’t act like Kim, Nene and Sheree – I didn’t watch the show but did follow the blogs about them -

I love this show for what it is, ENTERTAINMENT. Real Ghetto Trash, Section 8 Left overs. It really is a stich, Atlanta and the country is LAUGHING at you, and thats what Bravo wants. Ok people, all the housewives from each city or off the chain! I saw a snippet of the New Jersey housewives and they weren’t a class act either so lay off the Atlanta Housewives. I have never seen the show but Ne-Ne was in Barnecles Duluth last night with her father …Ooops husband last night. (The Bartender told me) She kept on her sunglasses like she was “high-profile” and hid up in the corner of the booth. I don’t think the 6 digits Bravo paid her is going to far…I mean come on it was $ .35 wings/shrimp & oyster night!!! She was at Barnecles Duluth not a Kyma or Nava in Buckhead! The women of “Real Housewives of ATL” are fabulous. Yea, they may not have “old” money and have to work hard to maintain their lifestyle, but they do a good job at doing what Black women have always done: beating the odds. Kandi will bring a different type of “royalty” to the show while the other ladies will continue to bring the drama and laughs we ALL enjoyed. Kudos on Season 2, much success on your endeavors and we look forward to prosperous futures!

the problem that i have with this show is that they should have gotten black women with REAL wealth, not these broke pretenders. on one of the other seasons they showed a woman buying a yacht and when she was told that the price tag was a million dollars, she didn’t eve flinch. that is REAL wealth. being able to buy a boat that you’re only going to visit occasionally that costs a mil shows what you’re working with. there are many women in atlanta that have that kind of money. but then again, those women are too classy to show their behinds on tv the way these chicks do.

It is amazing what I am reading on this blog. Some of you are so quick to call others: “Hoes, Section 8, Ghetto, Broke,” and so on; however, what I see from these posts are bigoted remarks and uneducated stabs at our wonderful women of Atlanta. Take these words and live by them: “Don’t hate, CONGRADULATE!” I know it will be hard for some of you due to your upbringing and ill mentality but at least try. Be glad that Bravo can see value and entertainment in the city/suburbs of Atlanta. Thank you Bravo. Keep it coming. I love this show………THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA………..here it comes whether you like it or not.
I hope the entertainment part surpasses New Jersey. They did a great job there.

This is a Ghetto Fabulous Trainwreck – you know it’s gonna be messy but the morbid side in you makes you watch it anyway. Hey, it’s entertainment – and they are getting paid by Bravo and being talked about everywhere and boosting their ratings. People like watching controversy, misery and misfortune, otherwise reality TV wouldn’t be so popular. Please keep in mind that these shows are created for entertainment purposes only. People watch the show because its entertaining. Who wants to watch a real housewife. I have watched all of the Housewive shows and I still think the original show, The Real Housewives of Orange County was the best. At least in that show, the women actually have husbands. It was nice to see how they related to their families. You seldome see the kids of any of these women. I understand that Lisa’s husband did not give permission for her sons to be on the show, but I wonder if Sheree has any parenting skills. Housewives should do something other than party & shop.

You forgot to mention the shootings in Buckhead…you know the cops (who happened to be white) KILLED that college student, (who happened to be black and unarmed). The REAL Housewives of Atlanta is hilarious! No ..they are not trailer trash, I lived in Douglasville for about 2 years and met plenty of them and really, they don’t fit in.
Just one more thing @ Keith,the reason the Buckhead nightlife died, is because developers decided to turn the community into a more high end, luxurious neighborhood. Taking out the nightclubs and opening luxury stores such as Gucci, Roberto Cavali, Oscar de la Renta, Vilebrequin…. just to name a few. It will be called the Streets of Buckhead. These types of store will bring more money into the city than clubs ever will. White people can talk about black people, but when you are LOUD and WRONG…well my dear that makes you a RACIST! Check your history next time before you speak or should I say blog.
And to solve your curiosity,yes, I am black women, who grew up in Sandy Springs, and I love to watch the Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Stop hatin on Atlanta. They are not perfect but none of the housewives are either. This is an entertainment show. This comment is specifically for the coward 2time; I agree with the previous posts about these hater white folks. Do not watch the show, you have a choice. You cannot stand the fact that these women are on TV at all. I bet you white haters would call it reverse racism and go down to the courthouse and file a lawsuit if you could. For the record Tamra Barney and her husband from the OC were in trouble finacially also, their house went to foreclosure and they were able to thwart it, probably from the money she made during last season. The dark haired Italian woman from Jersey that just moved into the big house and pays “cash” for everything was sued by a furniture company for unpaid bills. Who knows maybe they had not “collected” all the money owed to them. Ha Ha Ha.

So, quite frankly Bravo has got the wrong idea about socialites from Atlanta. To start with Duluth is not Atlanta; the only person on this show who actually lives ITP is the new girl Kandi. The women on this show are trash, they present themselves as trash, and they live like trash.
Problem 1:
Sheree’s house was just foreclosed on for about 1.2 million dollars, chump change, for someone who is a supposed successful “housewife”.
Problem 2:
NeNe rents her house , which is not even a house it’s a town home, enough said.
Problem 3:
Then there is Kim “big poppa husband stealing” Zolciak who thinks because a married man who won’t even show his face buys her an Escalade that makes her a housewife.
Omar, you are very right, there are many successful African American women out there, but these women are not them, period. There are so many more prominent MARRIED women in Atlanta who would have been much more suited for this show. Then again, after the first season I don’t think I would want to show my face on this show with the trash that was on there before. I’ll stick to Housewives of New Jersey.

You know it is a shame that people are doing whatever they choose to to make a living. But we want to call them out of their names. I really think if you don’t like it, don’t watch it. And to call them section 8, what does that mean, my 71 year old mother is on section 8! I am 44 and disables and wish I could get close to a section 8 certificate. To call these ladies “ho” slut etc, is really sad. I dont think Atlanta is made up of all what you say. What’s more sad is that all tje hate that we throw around. This group of women, at least half of them are looking for their next best meal ticket in a man that makes enough money to support them and their kids.
It amazes me that so many women claim they want a good man in this town, but are actually looking for a meal ticket. I wish they could do a show on “Real Men In Atlanta” to show the women here that there are some nice decent men who are loooking for a real woman who does not play games, and who are not into “What do you have instead of what can we obtain together”.

I’m just wondering why they couldn’t pick someone like the wives of popular V-103 disc jockeys Frank Ski and Ryan Cameron. These are very classy ladies. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing Kisha (sp?) Cameron on the cover of some magazine a little while ago. I can’t remember the title of the mag, but she was featured with four other “wives” talking about philanthropy, her work and taking care of her family. They could have even asked Steve Harvey’s wife. They could have also asked Monica and Tiny if they wanted to just keep it about famous folks. I don’t watch the show, but I’m glad that Tameka Foster didn’t agree to join. That would have just done poor Usher more injustice. There are so many other popular ladies, Black and white that they could have asked.
I’m assuming that since the show is called “Housewives” that they are focusing on women who don’t work 9-5 outside of the home or at least not full-time. This is what would give a real representation of what a housewife is, at least in my opinion. I just don’t think that Bravo really did their homework when it came to picking these ladies. I think this show is a ghetto hot mess. I watched one-and-a-half episodes and was done. The only reason I knew what was going on is because they were all over the AJC. I won’t be watching it this season, but I’m sure I’ll hear all about the trash that will be happening from the paper, radio, co-workers etc.
I just wish that in the future Bravo would take their time and pick some women who can really embody what being a housewife is about and show Atlanta in a more positive light.

This show is as comedic as a reality show could get. While I do not agree with it being called “Housewives” when less that 50% of the cast are actually married, it’s quite funny. The funnier part is that these women allow themselves to be put on frontstreet for whatever amount of cash they received…..none of this crap is for the betterment of the city, the perception of being a housewife, or quite honestly the perception of what it is to be a woman. These ladies (not all) lack dignity and show a lack or respect towards the people who ultimately made them the pseudo-celebs that they are today. I do not plan to watch this show as it is a pure waste of time and I hate when people say “if you don’t like it, don’t watch it” …forgetting that WE pay for this mess to be made and should have say-so as to what is put on the air and what isn’t.

I am personally very excited about the second season. It’s just entertainment, so the HATERS should not take it so seriously. The show is meant to be just like this blog: Entertaining. If you look at a group of people on a show and make assumptions about an entire city (or in this case region) based upon the show, the you are an idiot (and I mean that with the upmost respect). “Reality” shows are the farthest things from reality as you can get. If you can watch the show and get away from your daily trials, fine, watch the show and enjoy. If you “can’t stand this stupid mess”, fine, don’t watch the show. Don’t commit any power to demise the show. Don’t waste any efforts to talk bad about the show so others don’t watch it. All the negative talk is just getting other people who are in between more reasons to watch and see what all the talk is about. I personally will watch when available, but I won’t make my schedule built around it.

Why hasn’t anyone really questioned why a few of the “Housewives from New Jersey” paid with nothing but CASH…fresh hundred dollar bills for everything. One of them paid for an entire house (mansion) of furniture with CASH. Now, does this reek of MAFIA activity? I would say, “yes”. ITALIANS…CASH…MAFIA, ITALIANS…CASH…MAFIA!!!! And if you all had the morals and integrity that you think you do, shouldn’t it be more of a problem to watch the MAFIA spend blood money on national tv, then black women perpetrate that they have money?

I am not a hater but I must say, Coming from a Black man. I like to see black women
trying to take advantage of some of this reality money by showing the world what women of Atlanta are like. However teenage girls watch the show as well. And we already have problems here in Atlanta with materialism and people failure to prioritize and living above their means.
When you see the supposedly elite women here boast about how much they spend and not having a budget. But within weeks later you here on CNN that they are being foreclosed on what signals and signs are we sending the younger black women that are aspiring to be
like these women once grown. You would think when blessed with the opportunity to show the world your lifestyles to would be more considerate of whom will be watching and want to send out the right message. But then again I guess this will not yield them a second season right…….. It’s just sad that these women are the best role models for black women we can find to put on T.V. women that are made of entirely of someone else’s net worth.

Fans of “The Real Housewives” knew Danielle Staub was not the Jersey girl next door. But kidnapping and extortion?
It turns out the drama queen of Franklin Hills’ denials about “Cop Without a Badge” seem to be a case of protesting too much.
Court papers dug up by TheSmokingGun.com detail the extent of Staub’s criminal past – and it’s a lot uglier than her co-stars’ night of binge partying in Atlantic City.
Staub, who then went by the name Beverly Ann Merrill according to TheSmokingGun, placed calls to a kidnapping victim’s father in which she threatened the hostage with bodily harm unless Dad ponied up.
The criminal complaint, dated June 24 1986 and filed in the U.S. District Court in Miami, also accused Staub of cocaine possession with intent to distribute.
According to the Web site, it all went down like this: Merrill was working with a distributor for a Colombian drug family named Daniel Aguilar.
The partners in crime were out about $24,000 worth of cocaine after a deal went awry. Trying to recoup their loss, they kidnapped the man they blamed for the deal’s failure, named in the complaint as Carmen Centolella.
Then Merill placed calls to Centolella’s father demanding $25,000 in ransom money – or else.
Feds traced the calls and then arrested the duo, who were caught red-handed in a Miami apartment with six kilos of coke and $16,000 in cash.
She was indicted weeks later on eight felony counts, including extortion, cocaine possession, and narcotics conspiracy.
So, displaying the ruthless survival skills familiar with fans of the show, she flipped, agreeing to cooperate in full with prosecutors and the FBI.
That didn’t go over so well with her former partner, and subsequently Staub, who was then going under yet another assumed name, found herself on the receiving end of threatening calls.
“Angela, your life is at an end, honey,” said one male caller. Another warned “I saw you walking your dog – I wouldn’t take that kind of risk.”
In November 1986, she was sentenced to five years probation. Her co-conspirator Aguliar got 15 years in prison.
As for her drug use and past as a prostitute, both of which she denied on the show saying only that she was a former pothead, documents on TheSmokingGun.com would seem to contradict her.
Papers have Staub admitting to working for an escort service and being ordered to continue treatment for her severe “Drug history and drug lifestyle.”
In this case, the reality is more dramatic than the reality TV.
Now that;s drama for you!

According to the Hartford Courant, Zolciak was “16 or 17″ when the romance began and allegedly a witness in a criminal investigation at the time. McDougald, a 25-year veteran of the police department, copped to the affair-but insisted that the relationship started after the case was closed.
The scandal helped touch off an internal investigation in the Windsor Locks police department-where allegations of secret tapings, sexual-assault charges and cover-ups flew.
The upshot of unleashing these skeletons in her closet? The Hartford Courant’s reporting on the scandal, which unfolded in the summer of 1997, identified Zolciak’s age as 19. That nearly proves Zolciak’s seemingly ludicrous on-screen claim that she is 29 though, despite her onscreen Botox treatments, her detractors say she doesn’t look a day over 40.
I’m sure this is just one of MANY skeletons to come flying out of her closet. When is she going to write her “tell-all” biography. Kim ditch the older dudes and try to find someone your own age.

I started watching the ATL Housewives because I saw Ne NE while channel surfing & I wanted to find out why a grown woman would come on international t.v. without a bra & stretch marks all over her breasts & YELL every 5 minutes how CLASSY she was. I like the Housewives of New Jersey personally but I will watch the new season of the ATL Housewives just see what Kandi brings. I hope this season has better plots than high school BS such as two-faced chicks & name calling.

I saw Ne-Ne at the Publix in Duluth with her husband which is the only way i recognized her as she is very tall and wore a wig. She was nice and i do like her on the show. In fact she is about the only one i like-she keeps it real as they say lol!!

Only a couple of them are married. None of them actually live IN Atlanta. None of them are “housewives” since they have staff to do their work for them. So why is this series called “real housewives of…” when none of them fit the title? Not to mention the fact that according to Bravo, there are no Hispanic or Asian women here, apparently.
At least they did a New Jersey show. Now there is ONE group of women who are (so far) more low brow than the Atlanta women.

This is amazing, A ghetto packed show with three women who are not married. You have a trailor trash chick who is talking about a music career, but has been nothing more than a mooch, A mixed up dizzy who was once (Keith Sweat’s) wife, with no parenting skills, and a Husband who lived off of Ray Lewis rep(don’t beleive me, check stat’s in B-more compared to his in the Atl). Sheree who is truly in denial, and desperate for attention after Big Bob left her for something sexier. Word on the street is the new honey put it down on Bob so good that he left without a second thought! The New chick? Well let’s say since she was with xscape, she has’nt been recovered. Truthfully if any of these chicks had it going on this would’nt be. Last but not least, NeNe Johnson Leakes. If anybody knows anyone from the c/o 1986 Clarke Central high, please get the year book. I think that most of the people that are posting negative comments are racially motivated. If this were a show about five white women nobody would have a problem. If you think black women are the only ones who use section 8 you are so wrong. Wow. I was watching RH of NJ reunion (part 1 and 2) today and I was SO HAPPY to see that RH of ATL is returning! Like several of you said it’s entertaining.
Danielle is the only NJ housewife not married she’s divorced. Dina’s husband didn’t want to participate and he’s the brother of her sister Caroline and they both (husbands) run the Brownstone catering/wedding business. I love that show – but I’m happy my itches-Bay are coming back on RH of ATL!!!
I set a reminder in my phone to set my DVR to record since it’s not in the cable line-up yet!
I’ll miss DeShawn though. I wonder how she and the family is doing.
Well – this blog was very entertaining too! I used to LOVE coming to AJC to read all the drama the day after the show aired! It amazes me how some people get all into it. Wow.
I wonder if there will ever be an un-cut/un-edited version of any of the housewife shows? Hmmm. Oh and by the way – I wouldn’t believe the stories you hear about the RH of NJ because if that was true (Sopranoesque) they would have never agreed to be on the show. F what ya heard!

Not that anyone on here is talking about the RH of NJ but I did see it mentioned that 2 of them are single but only 1 – Danielle – is single. Well, not married!
Her X was on TV (with his old self) talking smak! There’s lots of drama with Ms. Danielle but I really like her 2 daughters. Oh and by the way – all of the kids on NJ had lots of airtime except we didn’t see little CJ that much. If there’s any typos on this one – oops in advance!

Question: since when does being a young woman on a tv show make someone a tramp or a hoe? What does the fact that NeNe rented a house or Sheree’s house got foreclosed have to do with anything? This is America and there’s a recession, so there are millions of people who’ve lost their homes. Who cares?? Newflash:these women are human and they have real life issues just like everyone else, the only difference is there issues are in the media for all to see, read, and blog about. And I’m sure most of you people making negative comments wouldn’t appreciate it if people were scrutinizing and commenting on your every move. Really, from reading most of these comments, one thing is obvious, there are a lot of jealous, envious, miserable people in the world.
