If you’re wondering what happened to Laura Huckabee on WGCL…
After 10 years, WGCL-TV meteorologist Laura Huckabee has left the station. “We didn’t come to agreement” for a new contract, she said, without being specific why.
She said she’d “love to stay in television… my agent is looking across the country. I’m going to see what happens.”
Over the past couple of years, the station has given its marketing dollars and prime time slots to Dagmar Midcap. What did Huckabee think of Dagmar? “I think management is very very pleased with Dagmar and what she does. And that’s all I would to care say about her.”

Huckabee has a broadcast meteorology degree from Mississippi State and a masters in science from Kennesaw State University. Here was her bio on the WGCL Web site:
Laura Huckabee is the meteorologist for CBS Atlanta’s weekend news and reports on weather-related stories for the CBS Atlanta evening newscasts.
Laura always tries to incorporate “fun” into everything she does. That’s obvious in the way she always puts an upbeat spin into her weather forecasts and reports.
She loves taking a little southern charm to the Big Apple. She has filled in for the weather staff on the CBS Early Show and CBS Saturday Early Show.
Outside of work, Huckabee enjoys running, rollerblading, attending theatre and opera, watching old movies and foreign films.
Laura started her career as a news anchor in Arkansas but quickly made the transition to weather. She graduated from Arkansas State with a degree in Elementary Education and later obtained a second degree in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State. She is a member of the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.

Laura Huckabee is the best WGCL had. I think they made a huge mistake letting her go. And I think WCCL is wrong to give such star status to Dagmar Midcap who doesn’t have meteorological certification. Laura does, and can calculate the forecast, not just read it.

The weather department at WGCL is the biggest joke in the southeast. Dagmar has no degree in weather or any certifications from any weather organizations… her only certification is to fill out a sweater. iF that is the best WGCL can come up with…. Atlanta will continue to watch WSB when bad weather rolls through.

Can we go back 30 years and remember a pretty young weather girl at channel 5? Does any body remember Pam Martin? How everbody thought she was the hottest thing in weather?It proves you don’t need talent in what you do to suceed.I know that will offend some but Pam’s transition to news reading is not much better than her forecasts from all those ago.Dagmar’s situation is no different, channel 46 is just using her “talent” like channel 5 did with Pam Martin.The big difference now is the news readers back then were Forest Sawyer and Jim Axel.Channel 46 lacks good news readers to go along with Dagmar.If all you got is a weather girl to get people to watch your station you are pitiful!!!

I’m so glad we have little Rodney Hoe to pester the TV people and exploit anything he can about them. He’s never once written a story that makes a TV personality look like a good person. hey dwayne, her major qualification may be the way she fills out a sweater, but my god, you have to concede she does a very impressive job of it! She also seems very personable & she comes across as a guy’s girl, both of which certainly help her. I’d guess she has a very high ‘q score.’ The only ‘tough questions’ going on in the WGCL newsroom are how far they can push promoting her without tripping into absurdity.
i too watch WSB when the severe weather rolls around, but i’d be lying if i said i’ve never switched to 46 just to see her. My wife gets a kick out of it… even if you don’t like her, you have to admit that if they got her doing the weather in jeans & a midriff-baring shirt and promoted it heavily, they’d jump to the top of the news ratings. Forecasting skills are not exactly mandatory for weather folks as long as they can read the NWS feed.
Laura was OK in a sorta “i’d do her” way but she wasn’t particularly memorable. I wish her luck.

What a sad day for Atlanta TV. They keep getting rid of the talent and holding on the the American Idol wannabe’s
as well as the OLD guard.
Laura was not only a beautiful face and smile to see on TV but a top rate talent as well.

I think it’s a shame not signing Laura to a new concract She wa a gem. She was really the only reason I watched on the weekedn sense all the have all day is payed programing which really sucks. Saddest day of my (sad little) life was when Dagmar switched to evenings. I used to look forward to waking up in the morning.

What a big loss, hopefully she will land another TV gig in the Atlanta market. She will be missed.
Yes she was attractive, but of the three she was the only one that had both looks and smarts. She also delivered the weather with style and Southern grace.
Dagmar’s voice drives me crazy, like a pre-school teacher explaining how to color. She’d be a great ‘features’ reported, but is lost about weather.

I have to agree with David A., Dagmar is probably a nice woman, but her voice drives me crazy. I also don’t think a meteorology degree makes a whit of difference, the team at WSB are flat wrong far too much of the time, even right outside their studio! it’s become just a reading job these days, as they read the feeds from the US Weather Service, etc.& blah, blah, blah….
I sorely miss Laura Huckabee, she was sharp looking, had class & professionalism, and spoke very well. I won’t be watching the Ch. 9 news any more, that’s for sure.

I lived in Atlanta for 13 years. I moved back to Milwaukee to manage a salon. Maybe, Ms.Laura Huckabee would enjoy Milwaukee. Crazy weather and it is only 90 miles north of Chicago. Good luck Miss Laura! I miss Atlanta,but Milwaukee is my hometown. Plus,the lakefront is too nice.

I miss Laura! Gee, one of the highlights of the news day that I looked forward too, and CBS46Atlanta has to mess it up. (Of course, they ruined the early morning show too by fiddling with it over the past year. Mike Brooks should be regular stand up and not try to be the funny guy. Neither he nor Tracye nor Jennifer should be doing features or fill in on regular news.)

I’ve traveled this country extensively, and have seen many TV weather people – male and female, from large markets to small. Laura H. was an absolute gem that will be sorely missed. Her competent delivery, meteorlogical knowledge, combined with her movements and grace and stage presence blow away any other TV weather personality in the Atl market. Her great smile and Southern charm and personality made her broadcasts absolutely enjoyable to watch. I don’t know what focus group, or off-centered consulting org advise 36 not to work out a mutually agreeable contract, but again, they were way off point. Dagmar will be what Laura is in about 10 to 12 years – if even then. And yes, Dagmar’s voice is a little grating, but it her over the top delivery where she trys to be so cute and folksy that really gets me. Laura’s natural stage presence was so real, plus she had a great sense of humor, and she invited you into her delivery. Dagmar – not so much. She’s trying, but she has so far to go to equal what Laura did just by being Laura. A big miscalcuation. I won’t be watching 36 weather anymore either.

Laura was great, and I miss her. I think Dagmar is great too, and adds some of the best cleveage shots I think I’ve ever seen in the history of Atlanta weather TV. What’s more, I spoke to Dagmar at the Alabama-Florida game last December, and found her to be a very nice person, very gracious, and a good sport around a bunch of horny, somewhat lubed up football fans. She was laughing and having a great time with her camera crew. Beautiful lady, and was struck by how short she is. But Laura’s fine too.

Several years ago, there was such an outpouring of community support for Laura when her daughter was born. We followed Laura’s pregnancy day to day as she delivered her accurate forecasts on the early morning program. She is a very attractive and highly intelligent woman who has furthered her education not only with her degree in meteorology from Mississippi State but a Masters degree from Kennesaw State University and still continues to further her education. On October 16, 2005, Ms. Laura Huckabee performed with the Callanwolde Concert Band narrating the selection, “Broadway Journey” (she loves Broadway musicals). She diligently made every rehearsal leading up to the concert while “juggling” baby sitters for her daughter in order to fulfill her commitment to the band. It was a wonderful community service effort presented by this fine musical organization and her. The Callanwolde Fine Arts Center was filled to “over capacity” for that concert and Laura graciously met with audience patrons during the intermission before she had to run back to the station to deliver the 6 PM weekend weather cast. Only best wishes and the good fortune can be extended to this remarkable talent (and her beautiful daughter) with a flair of southern charm!

I miss Laura! (I don’t know who is doing the hiring / firing at 46 but they need to have some sense slapped into them. Yes, I like Dagmar. But not to the point of shoving Laura out the door.)
