Because of the switch to digital last week, weekly local Atlanta TV ratings have been delayed until Monday.
But I’ve collected a few national nuggets.
“Jon & Kate Plus 8″ keeps losing steam. It fell from a monstrous 10 million viewers to 2.9 million viewers this Monday, a 70% dropoff in just three weeks. The brouhaha has subsided and people are probably just depressed watching this marriage fall apart and feel pity for the kids. Or after so many tabloid magazine covers, viewers are tired of the overexposure.
Perhaps to jumpstart ratings again, TLC is teasing about a “special” episode Monday with a big announcement:
Tuesday night’s “Real Housewives of New Jersey” season finale table-flipping drama drew 3.5 million viewers and more 18 to 49 year olds (2.5 million) than any other program that night. This was the most popular “Real Housewives” episode ever. The series also outdid the “Atlanta” version by 62 percent among 18 to 49 year olds (1.6 million vs. 990,000) and overall (2.17 million vs. 1.31 milllion). In other word, this franchise just keeps getting bigger.
Nationally, HBO’s “True Blood,” the second season debut Sunday, opened with 3.7 million viewers, plus another 1.4 million for the repeat. That is the best ratings for any HBO series since the finale of “The Sopranos.” This show is created by former Marietta resident Alan Ball (”American Beauty”).
Showtime should be thrilled that “Nurse Jackie,” episode two, jumped 8 percent to 1.1 million viewers. And counting repeats, 3.7 million people caught the premiere.
And while David Letterman beat out Conan O’Brien earlier this week in total viewers, Conan is drawing far more younger viewers which advertisers prefer.
To make up for the lack of TV ratings data, here’s an expanded list of top 5’s from various radio stations in town, courtesy of yes.com:

The upcoming “big announcement” on Jon & Kate is probably that one of the kids pooped in the toilet.

To the members of the Fray: We found you. You found us. You got airplay five times an hour on everything remotely resembling a Top 40 station. Please release another single or go away. Thanks!

There’s a classic R&B station in Macon that kicks butt. Magic-something. Love it when I’m driving I-75 through there.

Atlanta radio is terrible, and certainly doesn’t merit extra attention by putting it in print. “Atlanta” will never be synonomous with “creativity.”

Is it any coincidence that the top 5 songs from B98.5 are the songs that are in the daily rotation for “big money song of the day”?? LOL

On the next Jerry Springer….Special guests Jon & Kate !
Selfishness and GREED is the only thing I see on that show. An overbearing wife that browbeats her husband into being less of a man, for the sake of “the children”……

I think all of the shows with people having a bunch of kids should be canceled. They are just pimping their kids.

I’m sure that the BIG announcement will be what’s already happened, but made to appear as if they just decided this: Jon is moving out so they can both clear their heads, go to marriage counseling and/or personal counseling to work on themselves individually, and put the focus of the show back on the kids without all the bickering to get the ratings back (after a 70% drop), then have them work it out and they renew their vows (on TV) and move back together again to be a happy family.

I think Lynn’s comment is dead on, but also that they will keep showing Jon and Kate each with the kids on their own (showing Kate being a great mom and Jon a doting dad) and cordial to each other and peaceful (no bickering to bring the ratings further down) and then MAYBE get back together for the last season or at least show them as “friends” with 8 great kids they love (even though they couldn’t work out their marriage) and Jon probably has to have in his contract NOT to be seen with his girlfriend for the duration of the show, unless it’s a new one a few years from now after they’ve both moved on and the kids are older and they’ve really tried to work it out.

John & Kate are pumping the public in a publicity stunt to up the ratings.
