5/27: Jon & Kate Plus 8 ratings hit a record 9.8 million

The travails of Jon & Kate drove their ratings into overdrive Monday night. TLC reported an incredible 9.8 million viewers Monday night, more than any primetime network show that day and easily the best ever on TLC. That’s a number NBC hardly ever gets even during the regular broadcast season.

The pop culture machine out there, from the tabloids to the tabloid newsmagazines to the blogs, have driven the Jon & Kate story and their crumbling marriage for weeks. This built up huge pentup demand on Memorial Day night when there was little competition on other networks.

The season four finale in March was watched by 4.6 million viewers. The New York Times notes that People and Us reported higher-than-average sales with Jon & Kate on the cover. And their book “Multiple Bles8ings” has sold 272,000 copies since last fall.

Please leave them alone. Why people enjoy seeing a family going thru a marital problem. Jon & Kate may be you are mad now but think about your kids. Divorce is harder on the kids.

It is all a publicity stunt.

They let greed, money and power get to them! Personally, I feel they are getting everything they deserve. The Kids are the main thing I agree, but Kate has no idea what it takes to be a mother. Never has and never will. She is also estranged from everyone in her family, and has cut out everyone in her family. That ought to tell you something!

Q) What is a reality show without conflict?

@yaz, don’t forget, they are the ones that put their lives on display in exchange for large sums of money.

Apparently Kate isn’t willing to give up the show for her family. Please children aren’t stupid they all have picked up on something is wrong in the household. Especially since Mommy doesn’t want Daddy there. Greed is what started the families problems. But, let me assure you Kate, isn’t about to give up the gravy train. Not even for her children. They need to start thinking about those children. Because they want know what to do went all the free trips clothes and food, furniture motorcyle thelma heating. These children need a normal life style. There parents didn’t come from money. TCL should be ashame for even thinking about keeping this show with all the issue this family is having right now.

Remember all reality TV is scripted. How will everyone feel if the couple reconciles at the end of the season? I bet they will pat themselves on the back to thank themselves for saving this TV marriage through blogs and internet comments. Whether it is real or not, the damage it is potentially doing to their children is unimaginable.

I think its a shame. Its takes two parents to raise children these days especially 8 children. Jon should be ashame to leave her with all of those children. They need to stop being so selfish.

As big a fan as I am of the show, it’s time for Jon & Kate to go on an immediate and indefinite hiatus. Then, let Season 5 be the last season. We’d love for them after that to allow TLC to come back for sporadic 1-hour specials to let us know how they’re doing. But, I believe the above is very necessary to allow Jon & Kate to work out their marriage. It’s impossible to keep a family the size they have going on “automatic pilot” without very serious repercussions if they continue going down the road they’re going. Immediate action is necessary for the best interests of what can still be a very lovely family.

Kate’s greatest anger stems from the fact that she feels Jon has upset her “celebrity” lifestyle–money, fame, importance (by her standards) and that the broken pieces cannot be reassembled to her liking and are out of her control. The funds have been earned for the college educations, but she can’t fathom things going back to “the way the were.” She truly doesn’t believe that she helped create the quagmire in which she now sits.

I quit watching the show but I heard about her tears. Nice touch but I don’t buy it. It would help if she showed a little respect for Jon and others. It appears that Kate only has respect for herself. If Kate’s actions are truly for the kids, then Jon and Kate needs to see a counselor and get back to the basics.

Jon and Kate are a perfect example of how greed overpowers the basic needs of a family. Kate wants the money regardless of the cost to her family. God warns us about taking false Idols before Him. For Kate, the money is her Idol. It was Kate, not her kids, that wanted that huge house. The kids are paying the price of “Kate’s wants” .

As for TLC, they are exploiting this family and other like them…such as 18 and Counting. If that is the only way the parents (Duggars) can support these kids, they need to stop having them.

I have always been shocked and appalled to see how Kate treats Jon. Her tone, her words and actions toward him have always been short of loving, let alone respectful. If they both want whats best for the kids, then they will go to counseling separate as well as a couple and Kate must learn to respect others. The world does not revolve around her. Poor Jon and the kids.

It’s amazing to me how we sit back in judgment of people and have problems in our own lives. I understand why they are doing the show. They didn’t purposefully try to have this many children, but Lord knows it costs a fortune to take care of one child in this economy much less eight. The strain may be getting to their marriage, and what they need from people who really care about humanity, are prayers and positive support…if not for them, for the kids. Why do hateful people just want to sit back and cast stones? It makes me sad for everyone.

Leave them alone? They signed up for this. And they are still doing it. They could get out of it if they really wanted to, but it’s all about the money now. It used to be about the kids, well, now it’s not. So, don’t say to leave them alone when they love the money but not the publicity.
