5/22: Rashan Ali leaves Hot 107.9
Rashan Ali, the mid-day host at Hot 107.9, was let go Thursday afternoon, she informed me at her fundraiser for her charity Sporty Girls tonight at the Loft in Castleberry Hill. Q from the R&B group 112 performed.
Ali was a morning host for many years at Hot and headed the “A” Team until last summer, when Hot went with syndicated Rickey Smiley. She was moved to mid days, partly because she was still under contract. But she was making morning show money and Hot, like other radio stations, is in serious cost cutting mode.
Her contract was up in February but her agent Career Sports and Management got her a three month extension. Hot, she said, did not negotiate with her. Her contract is up May 31 but they decided to let her go a week early. She has a three-month noncompete clause, she said, so she is free to look for other radio employment in Atlanta in September.
Loading ...For now, she said she can focus on her charity work. “It’s all good,” she said, with no trace of bitterness. She said she was expecting to get cut, given the economic environment.
She’s also pregnant with her second child, a girl, who is due in September.
Hot will likely hire a replacement at less than half the cost of Rashan to do mid days.

Her former morning cohost C.J. was there, along with Murph Dawg of 95.5/The Beat. Hot 107.9’s Emperor Searcy was there to support her as well. I’ll put up photos in the morning.

Rashan is pretty intelligent but the radio stations are not concerned with with keeping their listners informed on real life issues nor do they care about rotating real music now a days….
By the way…..Rashan is very much Married and has a daughter already…..All Black woman do not have babies out of wedlock!!!

Rashaan was very judgmental and I turned the dial every time I heard her voice. She thinks she is better than people and used the airways to justify being a hypocrite. Not that I am one for blasting someone without a job. I think she does great when broadcasting for the Hawks (she’s not allowed to talk about herself.)
May be she can find work scrapping gums off desks during summer break!

Congratulations on the baby Rashan. I know that you and Smitty must be excited. Listening to you through the years has been great! I am a Decatur native as well and you represented well!!! This is 107.9’s loss. You are an amazing, inspiring young lady and I know that there is something better for you out there. Be encouraged and don’t let the haters get to you if you are reading this. Sometimes people are just not happy with themselves and look to put everyone else down. I really enjoy you as a side line reporter for the Hawks; perhaps TNT or ESPN could benefit from you.

WOW!!!! SOME OF YOU ON HERE REALLY HAVE SOME VERY HARSH WORDS FOR SOMEONE YOU PROBABLY NEVER MET . RASHAN WAS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO RADIO IN A WHILE. SHE WAS ALWAYS HERSELF AND DIDN’T LET NO ONE CHANGE HER AND FOR THAT I GIVE HER THE UP MOST RESPECT. I DON’T THINK YOU SHOULD HOOK BACK UP WITH RYAN CAMERON CAUSE V103 HAS CHANGED HIM AS WELL. Radio One is known for firing women while their pregnant. You got a lawsuit girl. You should seek an attorney. In this economy, it is flat out wrong, to fire someone just a few months before their baby is due. I heard Smitty aint workin right now. So, I hope you get an attorney and don’t rely on Ryan to come to your rescue. He looks out for him and him only.

Rashan is a beautiful person who is immensely talented…ALWAYS HAS BEEN! She will be greatly missed on the radio. I’ve known her since high school and she is destined for great things. When one door closes, another opens. Rashan, God is about to bless you above and beyond your wildest imagination! I just know it. You know how it goes…there are haters all around you, but God will make them all your stepping stones! Hold your head up high in the midst of this storm and wait for your blessing to come down!

I agree with you all about Frank Ski….The know it all needs to get kicked off the air….Sophia is cool, Wanda is about as fake a three dollar bill. It needs to be Ryan Cameron, Sophia, and Rashan Ali…..Do like I do, and turn him off…….I hate hearing that bs, inspirational garbage. Dude need to humble himself…..V-103 fire him….

She was great on the “A-Team”.. i still dont know why they destroyed the A’Team show… even if Ricky Smiley is a good catch.
In my honest opinion, she was a fish outta water on her own show… That ELLE DUNCAN girl can run miles around her in terms of entertainment value, topics and music selection… Rashaan has a great personality, but it showed that her personality/swag wasnt enough to carry a 2/+ hr long show every day……. she would be great to replace some of the old people on the Altanta news stations… she could also look at acting, reporting for sports events, or start a women’s talk show.
She needs to leave hip hop radio alone… no offense, but shes getting kinda old and she’s got basically 2 kids, promoting filth on the radio isnt a good look.. Hot 107.9 HAD BETTER keep emperor searcy… if they let him and the dirty boyz go, its a wrap, and they might as well file for bankruptcy..
the future is bright for rashaan, but she needs a career change/refresh… but her future is def. bright..
RASHAAN, please DONT JOIN RYAN CAMERON… he is a certified clown/coon… you’re better than that… dont sell out…virtually all Radio DJ’s are these days, playing the same 15-20 song rotation for 4 months

Rashan Ali you belong on the screen. You are a beautiful young woman and the camera loves you. Change is always better. Change stretches those tired muscles and makes us more flexible. Maybe this will be your opportunity to meet Jada Pinkett-Smith. I want her to be my best friend, too.

I was wondering what happened to my girl. I miss her and the rest of the morning show crew becuz i am not so feeling that rickey smiley crew. Well its their lost and I hope that Rashan go on to do bigger and better things. And congratulations on your new baby!

I can’t beleive how mean some of you all comments are. No matter how bad I may dislike someone, I would never want the worst for them, I don’t like V-103’s, or Hot’s morning show, but my life is good because I wish the best for others even people that I no don’t care for me. Q-100 B98.5 and Kiss 104.1 has the best morning shows, and that’s where I go to listen, I don’t talk bad about the one’s I don’t care for. Us Black People are so dam hard on eachother, but I beleive mostley because alot of us are so nhappy we feel better when we HURT OTHERS!!!!!!!!! I don’t no how that can make you feel better but us black people get a thrill out of calling eachother Country and Getto.
