5/22: Rashan Ali leaves Hot 107.9
Rashan Ali, the mid-day host at Hot 107.9, was let go Thursday afternoon, she informed me at her fundraiser for her charity Sporty Girls tonight at the Loft in Castleberry Hill. Q from the R&B group 112 performed.
Ali was a morning host for many years at Hot and headed the “A” Team until last summer, when Hot went with syndicated Rickey Smiley. She was moved to mid days, partly because she was still under contract. But she was making morning show money and Hot, like other radio stations, is in serious cost cutting mode.
Her contract was up in February but her agent Career Sports and Management got her a three month extension. Hot, she said, did not negotiate with her. Her contract is up May 31 but they decided to let her go a week early. She has a three-month noncompete clause, she said, so she is free to look for other radio employment in Atlanta in September.
Loading ...For now, she said she can focus on her charity work. “It’s all good,” she said, with no trace of bitterness. She said she was expecting to get cut, given the economic environment.
She’s also pregnant with her second child, a girl, who is due in September.
Hot will likely hire a replacement at less than half the cost of Rashan to do mid days.

At least the v103 cres has some type of personality, not saying they are the best because I dont like Frank neither but Wanda is pretty funny. The only people that listen to Rashan Ali are the few people in this article that’s why she got fired. Forgot she was still on the radio. When she was on Ryan’s show all she was was a YES girl she didnt have an opinion and when she did it was because Ryan gave it to her. And then the A-Team please. Atl radio is not bad, she is though. All 107.9 ever had was Ryan and when he left they had nothing.

Rashan has already agreed to work with Ryan at V. That’s why she was let go early. Radio One found out she was going to the competition. So sick of ATL reusing the same talent over and over. V103 has turned into the old Hot 97.5 from back in the day. Everybody from Ryan, DJ Dock, Akene, Ramona and now Rashan. Can we get some originality please!

I totally agree with mugglemikki….Frank Ski is very condescending. His show is full of his OWN self righteous BS. Wanda is cool, but she tries very hard to use correct grammar, but she can’t…it’s just not in her. Mr. Sophia (yes, I meant, Mr. Sophia) is funny in my opinion but can just over do it at times. The TJMS may not be local, but you can definitely learn a thing or two.

BTW, Yep. The worst thing that Hot 107.9 ever did, other than hiring annoying azz Griff, was getting rid of Ryan. Rashan is OK. She probably would be good with Ryan again. The question is, can she handle being a side kick again after having her own morning show? Anyway, I wish her the best and congrats on the baby! What God has for you, He has for you!

HOTT 107.9 Radio has just lost a large group of listeners as a result of releasing Rashan Ali. She was great for this station. But, one thing in life we have to always remember, sometime we have to go through to get to the next phase in our life. Now, sit back and watch her blossom. HOTT 107.9 will lose in the long run.

I love Rashan and I wish her the Best. How many times must people say that the Frank Ski show sucks? I guess a million times is not enough as long as they are on the radio and on TV? WT2? The fact of the matter is, Ryan doesn’t want to do a morning show! I don’t blame him at all. One day soon V-103 will go the route of 107.9. . . meaningless.

Tough break. She should have left Radio One when Ryan left and should have seen the writing on the wall when all of her buddies were leaving the station. Ryan told her to get her ducks in a row, but she’s hard-headed and didn’t listen. Now she’s pregnant again and unemployed. Sucks to be her. Maybe she can do entertainment with The 2 Live Stews.

It is a shame that Rashan was let go, but the lack of of a good program director is the problem with Atlanta radio period. They run all of their music and can not engage in any conversations that will stimulate the mind in the morning. Some of the afternoon show are good, but they get good after you are home already. Mix the old school with the new. Play some old school R&B with new R&B, and make people think.

I guess Frank Ski was happy to let us know yesterday that he has a Porsche and Wanda ia drivng a Mercedes. As if no one has one but him, AGAIN. Wanda looks a hot ghetto mess. Mr. Sophia looks better than she does. I wonder who the man she is engaged to look like. When she said that when she met this man he didn’t care nothing about her job at V-103 I was ROTFLMAO and said that she has got to be kidding because she is not easy on the eyes. I am glad she finally took that gold tooth out. Nina please stop talking your voice is annoying. Your facial expressions on television is worst. We all know you got a man as well and if she says he is big one mo time I am gonna scream. How is he gonna be so big you are online looking for him a discount plane ticket? I agree with a lot of the comments on this thread.In the mornings I do not listen to the radio at all, I watch the local news/national morning shows then on the short drive to work I listen to my C.D.s Black radio has become a joke, a money making machine based on monopolies making the most money from syndicated shows instead of local on air personalities.It’s quite sad that every station plays the same 10 songs every day and I have to turn to the internet to hear new music.I loved the Tom Joyner show when I was a kid because my mom listened to it on th way to work. Too bad Steve Harvey is pushing him out in so many market, Steve Harvey’s show is BORING!

I hate to see Rashan go but maybe its a blessing in disguise. She should have gotten V103 middays. I like Elle but she is young and clueless about alot and her show is lacking. I would love, love, love Ryan and Rashan in the morning on V103! Frank is getting old and his opinions and show topics reflect that. They need to give him an exec position in an office somewhere. Miss Sophia is a train wreck but every morning show has one nowdays..

While I hear she’s talented (in other areas)she definately needs to give up radio. The tone of her voice in unbalanced and a nuisance to those of us who can hear. I wish her much success but please do not bring the ghetto fabulousness to the other Atlanta radio stations (because I’m a flipper, lol).

I’m agree with those about the Frank and Wanda morning show. I listen when one or the other is on vacation. Frank never lets anyone finish a question. He always over talks all the guest. Wanda is always crying about something. I personally think they should break those two up. The show is fine when Ryan comes to visit. Rashun is a great person! I think she should be added to the V-103 morning show. After Rickey took over the morning show, I started listening to Steve Harvey.

I agree I hate the Rickey Smiley show I stopped listening the day I learned the A-team caught the ax I did not like it that much but some mornings it was able to be listened to,but any show that calls people in another city I can’t take it I’m sorry “hand me my IPOD please”!I hate to say it but TJMS is for old folks I’m sorry,I’m 29 and I want to hear about relationships,health,and a little scandal everynow and then,not about old people jokes and stuff that happened in the 70’s I can’t relate to it just being real I was a baby for heavens sake.

Morning radio in the “A”, overall sucks, with the exception of talk radio. Frank Ski is surrounded by “village Idiots”, he makes a vialant effort, but its starting to wear on him. Wanda is proof positive that you can totally ignorant and still make money. Ms Sophia (”cousin it”), is a disgrace, inarticulate and a bufoon. They are an insult to those of us who know what’s real. Atlanta deserves better. The management there needs to go. The numbers maybe there, but listen to the quality- or lack there of. Rashan will land on her feet. This market is ripe for a progressive morning show that gives a balance on current issues music and withtasteful humor.

Heres a thought. I am 48 and I run a warehouse in Atlanta. My employees are 18 to 70 years old. Ms Ali is well liked and most important, she is good for Atlanta. The younger guys listen to be updated on where to go and the older guys listen to be informed. Its all entertainment to get through the work day. Its not that serious trust me and she will resurface as she should.

First, to those of you who have posted, could you please read and edit your posts before you push the button? Some of the comments are completely a mess. Either learn to form a complete sentence, thought or spell, or just dont post.
Now, its unfortunate that 107.9 has been reduced to what it is now. Despite how much some of you may have hated the A team, that was the only forum where young people could really voice their opinion on the various topics. You could hear some kids with real problems who were looking for help. I think the A-Team provided that outlet to them. Now they have nothing. Definitely get rid of the dirty boys…I dont listen to v103 because of how some of the hosts brag on their haves versus recognizing their audience (mostly disadvantaged). I do agree, you need local talent to keep things fresh. Syndicated shows are very robotic and cant or dont address the issues of a community.

OK.Atlanta radio sucks..this is TRUE. I am a 46 yr. old female and I tried to give Frank a chance, but I can’t stand the arrogant know it all attitude that he exudes when he is on the air. It’s like people in the South can’t think for themselves. Did he act like that in Baltimore when they told him to get to steppin’? No, he didn’t. He picked his stuff up and ran to the South thinking that everybody here was slow and would love him because he is from the North with an accent and an overbearing attitude. Guess what Frank, most people here with an ounce of brain don’t like you. Everytime your name comes up in a social setting among a diverse group of people, once the smoke settles, there is a consensus that you are not saying s**t. Generally, everybody agrees that you are just a DJ with a moderate education and you don’t need to be THE morning man for black radio in Atlanta. Although syndicated shows are not the greatest, in my humble opinion, if you are going to listen to a decent syndicated show, I would select the TJMS (Tom Joyner Morning Show) at least you can learn something. Steve Harvey is too loud and is a hypocrite. Rickey Smiley’s show is very weak with the same old stuff (prank phone calls, old hip hop news, etc). But, you as the consumer, can make the right choice. Do we stay with the same old stuff???
But, I did digress, this is about Rashan Ali. Girl, got get yourself some voice lessons and keep it movin’. Congrats on the baby. God bless you and your hubby!!

I’m glad that Rashan was let go-it’s about time! I’m amazed she lasted as long as she did; I never liked her attitude or voice & feel she never really brought anything to the table. Luckily, I really don’t listen to Hot 107.9 now, it’s for the younger set. She’s not the only 1 who needs to go; maybe it’s time to write letters to the CBS Radios, Radio Ones, etc. & tell who all you want to see off or on.
The only black talk radio here WAOK-PLEASE get rid of Lorraine Jacques White! She’s pitiful to have in the morning. I don’t want to hear those lame reused topics she has over & over, I want to hear about local, state, & national news-imagine that, I actually want to be informed. Hell, I’ve started to listen to a mix of WGST, WABE, & WCLK in the mornings.
Lastly, I wish WRFG would finally get rid of Wannique Shabazz. With his voice all he could get on is community radio. Some of y’all on here talkin’ about Frank Ski, Wannique is another 1 of those “Northern Negroes” who’s come down here with the attitude. Dude, you’re not enlightening us, & many of us Southerners aren’t as backwards as you think, we really don’t need you to tell us anything! IMO, he abuses his position. Anyway, hopefully more changes are to come, cause alot of these folks have gotten too comfortable in their position & bring nothing fresh & new to the table.
