ABC is rebooting its entire Wednesday night schedule with new shows and adding two freshman programs around the “Dancing With the Stars” results show on Tuesdays. Big names with shows include Courteney Cox (in “Cougar Town,” left), Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton.
“Ugly Betty” is bumped to Friday nights, allowing a new drama at 8 p.m. Thursday before “Grey’s” and ‘Private Practice.”
Sunday nights remain the same while freshman drama “Castle” gets the cushy post “Dancing” slot on Monday nights.
Semi-coincidentally, former co-horts on the failed show “Back to You” on Fox (Grammer, Heaton) are now on ABC on back-to-back sitcoms.
Compared to last year, after the writers’ strike, ABC is being far more aggressive carting out new programs this year. Last season, ABC basically struck out in terms of new shows outside the modest success of drama “Castle” and reality show True Beauty.”
The fall schedule includes:
-“Shark Tank” (Tuesday, 8 p.m.) – Mark Burnett (”Survivor,” “Celebrity Apprentice,” “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”) is executive producer for a reality show about giving budding entrepreneurs the chance to start businesses, funded by five tough, multi-millionaire tycoons.
-“The Forgotten” (Tuesday, 10 p.m.) – Producer Jerry Bruckheimer features a group of dedicated amateurs solving cases the cops have given up on.
-“Hank” (Wednesday, 8 p.m.) – Kelsey Grammer (”Cheers,” “Frasier,” “Back to You”) is a titan of industry who finds himself out of work.
-“The Middle” (Wednesday, 8:30 p.m.) – Patricia Heaton (”Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Back to You”) stars in a sitcom about a middle-class family living in the middle of Indiana.
-“Modern Family” (Wednesday 9 p.m.) – This is a family sitcom set up from the perspective of an “unseen documentary filmmaker.” In other words, just like “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation”!
-“Cougar Town” (Wednesday, 9:30 p.m) – Courteney Cox is back after “Friends” and “Dirt” as a recently divorced single mom on the dating scene again.
-”Eastwick” (Wednesday, 10 p.m.) -This is based on the movie “The Witches of Eastwick.” Rebecca Romijn (”Ugly Betty”) and Lindsay Price (”Lipstick Jungle”) are the most recognizable names.
-”Flash Forward” (Thursday, 8 p.m.) – This sounds intriguing: a mysterious event causes the entire world to black out and everybody sees the near future.
Midseason shows include “Happy Town,” which features a town packed with secrets and “V,” which is a re-imagining of the 1980s miniseries and includes Elizabeth Mitchell, who played Juliet from “Lost.” EW.com reports she will be back on “Lost” next season but not as a regular. Scott Wolf from “Party of Five” is on the show, too. “The Deep End” is about four first-year lawyers at a prestigious law firm.
Here are the shows coming back: “Better Off Ted,” “Castle,” “Scrubs,” “True Beauty,” “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” “The Bachelor,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Extreme Makeover Home Edition,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” “Private Practice,” “Supernanny,” “Wife Swap,” “Ugly Betty,” and “20/20.”
“Lost,” “True Beauty,” “Scrubs,” “Better Off Ted” and “Wife Swap” will be back midseason.
Shows dropped include “According to Jim,” (finally!) “Samantha Who?” “Cupid” “The Unusuals” “Eli Stone” “Dirty Sexy Money,” “In the Motherhood,” “Pushing Daisies” and “Surviving Suburbia.”

Boy, were you ever wrong about Elizabeth Mitchell. Better sources than you have reported that her role in “V” is limited (she won’t be a regular cast member). And do you honestly think that just because she set of the H-bomb – that may alter the time flow and reset characters in the plot – that she died? It’s “Lost,” man. (SPOILER ALERT) They had us believing that Locke was alive the entire season. Apparently, you don’t watch the show.

Dave-you’re probably right. I changed the blog entry to reflect that she will be back on “Lost,” just not as a series regular.

Lady, I’m with you. Reality TV just plain sucks. Nothing real about it at all. Bring on the sitcoms no matter how crappy they might be. I’m tired of singing, dancing, running, modeling, cooking,…..

I feel bad for Rodney. You have to sit and watch a lot of CRAP on TV for these reports. I pray that you make management soon and have the power to force the dregs of primetime network television on your minions.
