Atlanta dancer's are not on SYTYCD. Want to know why? Hmmm...let think? Could it be because they are the working dancers in the industry and would prefer to be receiving a paycheck for their talent rather then dancing on a show with no pay! They are making a living at dance instead of being a pawn for free on a popular television show. Mr. reporter, would you write your articles for free? I don't think so. Dude, it's not a mystery! Just do your homework and get your facts straight before you write an article about a subject you know nada about. Thank you Jamie Parrish, you inspire me.

Ok. You want to know why there are no Atlanta kids on SYTYCD? Well, here it goes. I am a professional choreographer here in Atlanta. Atlanta has basically 3 camps of professional dancers. There are the modernist and ballet dancers, the hip-hop/break crews, and the commercial dancers. There are two main professional agencies here; Xcel talent (www.xceltalent.com) and Blocsouth (blocsouth.com). If you are not with Atlanta Ballet company or a small contemporary company, then you better be with one of these two agencies if you want to really make a living at dance. Problem is, shows like SYTYCD and America's Best Dance Crew do not want to pay these kids, so we urge them NOT to Audition. They are making MILLIONS of dollars off of these young dancers, and paying them NOTHING. Sure they fly them here and there, and buy them meals....but no real pay. It is my hope that this trend continues in Atlanta. We need to educate dancers and choreographers not to work without agent contracts, and Dancer's Alliance rates. (Dancer's Alliance is like a SAG for dancers.) I assure you, we have more than enough talented dancers to win this thing every season. We just choose not to let dancers become their pawns in making millions without sharing the wealth. Most of the people on these shows are getting raped in their contracts. It is a sad abuse of the big networks towards the dance community. It is bad enough that the Arts in America are struggling so. It is worse that writers like you write this stuff without doing your homework. Give me a call. I will introduce you to 10 amazing young dancers that will blow the socks off of anyone you saw on SYTYCD last season. Then, you can write a story on THEM, and give them some publicity in your sensational publication. Thank You, Jamie Parrish

IS 'making it' on SYTYCD really our measure of our success as dancers? Scary... Maybe we should take a chance and go see an Atlanta-based contemporary dance company (like Zoetic!!) Turn off the TV, people!

Well said, lilywhite! SYTYCD is my favorite summer program, and I would love to see it extended to the regular season line up. Unlike "Dancing with the Stars", which holds NO appeal for me, this show finds those with real dance talent, and gives them the opportunity to refine thier chosen style of dance while at the same time expanding into other styles. The dancers must adapt to ballroom, ballet, latin, hip hop and contemporary from week to week. It is so fun to watch the growth and development of these very talented individuals through the season. I'm looking forward to the start of season 5 on Thursday night!

Say what y'all will, but this program has some of the best dancing I've ever seen (and I grew up at Atlanta Ballet and danced in the company). Atlanta may not be able to fund a dance team because dance doesn't really stress have the variety of dancing needed to succeed as do some of the other cities--or the emphasis. However, unless you have followed the seasons of this program & seen the incredible results, please refrain from commenting negatively. This program also has an outreach arm, which takes dance into after school programs in inner city & high risk areas to keep young people off the streets & out of trouble. The criticism given by the different judges (not leveled at a performer as in "Idol") is constructive for the dancer & his/her development. After all, at most auditions there isn't time to constructively critique ther performer.

IN MOST CIVILIZED COUNTRIES, what people here are calling dancing is not dancing! When you lay on the floor and act crazy it is correctly called a spasm. Even if you're on your feet and OMG have a partner...what's done is not dancing. Find a room and call it like it is...SEX!
