The fifth housewife was bound to leak out since the show started taping two weeks ago: Entertainment Weekly has found out that Kandi Burruss, a former singer-songwriter for the 90s R&B group Xscape, will take over for DeShawn Snow.
Burruss is undeniably the most notable member from Xscape. Since the group parted ways in the late ’90s, she had a somewhat successful solo singing career (her biggest hit: “Don’t Think I’m Not”) but has seen ever greater successes with songwriting. Along with [Tameka] Cottle (who’s engaged to rap superstar T.I.), she wrote TLC’s 1999 smash hit “No Scrubs.” Burruss has also penned jams for Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Boyz II Men, Alicia Keys, and Faith Evans. The singer-songwriter has a daughter, 6-year-old Riley, from a previous relationship, and a boyfriend.
Not surprising they would go for someone in the music field since Atlanta is such a mecca for R&B and hip hop. Xscape in the 1990s had three albums (all which went platinum) and five top 10 hits, the biggest being “Just Kickin’ It” in 1993, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
More recently, she was featured on a top 10 hit “U and Dat” led by E-40 and also featuring T-Pain in 2006.
On the site, she says the songs she has written or cowritten on albums that have sold 56 million copies.
On the songwriter database with ASCAP, Burruss has 118 songs (though some are repeated).
Bravo sent out a press release at 11:37 a.m. Monday, which notes that Burress has a live-in fiance and a six-year-old daughter. It notes: “Burress juggles her busy life as a single mom and hard working career woman, but also finds time to let loose on the Atlanta social scene, stepping out with members of the music industry’s elite.”
