Last Saturday at midnight, as part of the fight over the Sunday sales , Walmart apparently placed flyers in the beer and wine aisles of local stores, according to state Sen. David Shafer (R-Duluth).
The literature urged customers to call the chairman of the Senate Regulated Industries Committee, which is now considering S.B. 16, a measure to permit communities to OK the Sunday sales of beer and wine in grocery and convenience stores.
A committee vote is expected on Wednesday.
But one should never underestimate the power of an unslaked thirst.
Shafer said a half-dozen slurred messages were left on his office voice mail at 1, 2 and 3 a.m. Sunday. “They were clearly on the cell phone in the beer aisle, drunk and unable to buy beer, and angry with me,” the senator said.
