Let the Senate race polling begin

WASHINGTON – Astute reader Jacob Hawkins of Cartersville already got an automated phone poll on the newly open Senate seat, designed to target Republicans — and seemingly to test a crossover candidate.

The poll starts by asking for preference among the following GOP names: U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, Herman Cain, former Secretary of State Karen Handel, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, U.S. Rep. Tom Price and U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland.

The poll then asks if the caller would “be willing to contribute financially to your candidate.” Then: “If your candidate does not win the primary election, for which of the following potential Democratic candidates would you most consider voting for in the general election?”

The Dems listed are state Rep. Stacey Abrams, former Attorney General Thurbert Baker, U.S. Rep. John Barrow, state Sen. Jason Carter, former Commissioner of Labor Michael Thurmond, former state Rep. DuBose Porter and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed.

Our friends at Peach Pundit also are hyping a poll out Monday.

Anyone else getting polling calls?

I got this same one this evening also (and like Jason I also live in Bartow County). They put the candidates in alphabetical order and I could find no other signs to tip off who may have commissioned the poll.

Hopefully we can get a young candidate who hasn’t been exposed to Washington corruption. Its gonna be fun watching this unfold.. Fortunately we have many qualified candidates hopefully the right one will win. My top picks would be Herman Cain, Karen Handle, Lynn Westmoreland. My dark horses would be Mayor Max Bacon, Austin Scott, Chip Rogers, My please don’t run’s Tom Graves, Tom Price, Phil Gingrey,

Even the worst Republican is better than the “best” democrat, if there is such as thing as the best dem. Dems have sold this country to the devil and we’re about ready to see the curtains come down.

I think women should be able to be included in combat roles IF they pass the mens physical fitness requirements. No push-ups on the knees , and full pull-ups. If they can do it, more power to em. Anyone but someone from dekalb or clayton will suit me fine in this race btw.

The governor reportly said he hopes Chambliss serves out the rest of his senatorial term so that he (Deal) would not have to appoint a replacement. I disagree totally. I think Chambliss should resign now so that a good, solid, experienced person could be appointed and have a leg up on the 2014 election. I shutter to think of most of the names now being put forth as potential candidates, particularly one female loose cannon from my area. Lord help us.

gee ed who controlled house of repr from 1995 to 2006 and senate for same years(with minor break because of jeffries) with dnc (moderate) prez and gwb. sounds like conservs were in power most of the time recently until 2008 when folks said enough of the conservs. and in ga it has been going downhill ever since sonny.
