Reports: Beyonce lip-synched national anthem
Mrs. Insider took one look at Beyonce at Monday’s inaugural ceremonies and told me this was the case. But would I believe her? Oh, no. It couldn’t possibly be so. The tweet from Jim Acosta of CNN:
CNN has confirmed Times of London report that Beyonce lip-synched the National Anthem during #inaug2013
The Times report cites a spokeswoman for the Marine Corps Band.
Look, the lady has fine pipes and obviously came down with a case of nerves, complicated by a driving need for perfection. But at any inaugural, whether Democrat or Republican, it seems to me that the object should be authenticity rather than unrivaled excellence.
What was that line from Obama’s inaugural speech? Ah, yes:
“We must act, we must act knowing that our work will be imperfect. We must act, knowing that today’s victories will be only partial.”
Otherwise, let’s just have Chuck Schumer say, “Roll tape.”

I wanted Jennifer Hudson to be the singer for all events. Bey has a great work ethic, but I’m sick of her and she needs to stop with all the burlesque stuff. And JHud has MUCH better vocals.
I don’t know if this is a big deal (celebs do it a lot), but it doesn’t seem right for such an important event. So it may not be a big deal.

It bothers me that she faked it – sorry. Aretha Franklin sang live 4 years ago, and though her voice had seen much better days, I don’t think her old-school professionalism would have allowed her to be fake. What an ego on her, or anyone else that faked it, including YoYo Ma from 4 years ago.

I’m noticing that most news outlets, liberal pundits, music reviewers, etc. are taking up for her. This is to be expected as it goes right along with the “fake and phony” stuff being normal. Reality is no longer their main objective. Nothing has to be real or right anymore. Or, if it feels good do it, not matter what others think, or if it’s morally or civilly right or not. This world is so upside down it’s plum scary!

@Denise – I didn’t say everyone on those shows lip synched. However most did. Including The Jackson Five running around strumming guitars and portable keyboards with no cords in an era that preceded capable FM pickups. I wasn’t even implying that it was any fault of the artist only that it is done and historically this is setting no precedent whatsoever. Jim Morrison insisted that the Doors performance on Bandstand not be lip synched but the record company forced the issue so he deliberately flubbed the synchronization. Hell, even Whitney’s famous Super Bowl anthem was lip synched.
As for the President Obama teleprompter debate. I’m pretty sure that as President, Ronald Reagen hardly ever uttered more than a sentence on camera without one.

No I did not miss the speech. I read the entire thing and it is clear the progressive agenda that Obama is going to put forward. He knows it is not going to pass but he is going to do this agenda in hopes that he can make the 2014 election about giving him the house he needs to get it passed. I think he needs to read Nate Silver’s article on the chances the Dems have of taking back the house before 2020.

As a classical musician, my thought when I heard that Beyonce would be singing the National Anthem was that it would be just another insult to our nation and foul-up performed by another entertainer. I was wrong. Her rendition was wonderful. I don’t care whether it was pre-taped or live. It was great. There are many factors which make a live performance very risky, and performing outside especially in very cold weather is one of them. If it was a pre-tape, more power to her for caring about our National Anthem and her performance of it to making it the best performance possible. It is a difficult song to perform in the best of circumstances.
