With a little selective editing, John Barrow becomes poster child for anti-gun group

The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has entered the debate over gun control with a video that features U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Augusta, as its poster child.

The video splices in a 2012 campaign ad used by Barrow, touting his support of the National Rifle Association and his opposition to gun legislation, with scenes of Sandy Hook Elementary School. Additionally, the group points out that on Wednesday, Barrow was critical of gun control legislation proposed by President Barack Obama. Said Barrow, In part:

”I strongly disagree with proposals that would deny law abiding citizens their Second Amendment rights, and I’m disappointed he did not propose increased security measures for our schools.

Here’s the CSGV video:

The group points to the $27,250 that Barrow has received from the NRA over eight years. The quote from CSGV executive director Josh Horwitz: “Representative Barrow has been bought for the price of a new truck. It would be laughable if his lack of regard for our families’ safety wasn’t so dangerous.”

Here’s the problem: The CSGV has done some selective editing in its video. In its version of the ad, Barrow displays a pistol and says:

“Long before I was born, my grandfather used this little Smith & Wesson here….”

It cuts the Augusta congressman off there. How did Barrow finish the sentence in the original, and what did the CSGV choose to omit? This:

”…to help stop a lynching.”

Around here, those five additional words make a big difference.

td – believe it or not, I’ve come to appreciate you more lately.

I hope the people of GA-12 pressure John Barrow to resist even the thought that an “assault weapon” ban or magazine capacity limit is a compromise of anything other than our rights. It should be less about partisanship and more about the divide between people who have gun knowledge and those who don’t, because this is clearly an issue where public ignorance is blatantly exploited, and emotive forms of persuasion are used heavily in the absence of compelling facts.

If you’re a gun person, take a non-gun person with you to the range sometime to offer an introduction, and show that person that the scary-looking guns aren’t the most powerful on the market. Your guest might even be surprised to learn that it’s fun to shoot AR’s and AK’s.

At least they didn’t just edit out the word ’stop’.

If homeowners want a gun for protection, I could probably hit a thief or three with guns with 7 shots but I do not think they would let me live to get off 2 shots. I do not think anyone needs a gun with more than what 10 shots killing 1 child a second[check newtown 911 calls] without having to reload. We have to register cars and pay liability insurance. guns?

What hypocrisy. The Cons deplore selective editing, except when the NRA and its backers do it. The Second Amendment actually reads:

“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”

But the NRA and the wing-nuts on this blog selectively omit the dependent clause so it reads:

” the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”

See the difference?

Probably not. But you understand hypocrisy don’t you?

Sadly, you don’t.

“10 shots killing 1 child a second”

You really need to stop listening to people that do not know what the h3ll they are talking about. There is no way this idiot killed 1 child per second. The best trained military person could not preform that task.

Any semi auto gun (pistol or rifle) can shoot 1 bullet per second. It is called pulling the trigger and the faster one can do it the faster the bullet comes out. This does not mean the person can hit what they are aiming at.

Reloading takes about 2 to 3 seconds so the size of the mag is not material to the discussion.

Matter of fact your entire talking points is nothing more then hyperbole meant to scare the uninformed.

Wrong again. It is not the NRA that has said the right to keep and bear arms is an individual right protected by the Constitution. It was the founding fathers and the SCOTUS. Get you facts straight.
