Custodial evidence: Jeff Mullis will be next Senate Rules chairman

If you want to know who’s in and who’s out at the state Capitol, don’t wait for the press release. Watch the trash bins.

Informally, word has long been out that Don Balfour, R-Snellville, had reached the end of his tenure as chairman of the Senate Rules Committee. Officially, nothing has changed.

A trashbin outside the door of state Sen. Don Balfour's office.

A trashbin outside the door of state Sen. Don Balfour's office.

But geography is status at the Capitol. And any change in geography requires logistical support. The trash container at right was parked this afternoon outside Balfour’s fourth-floor office – next to the hearing room reserved for that committee.

Likewise, Jeff Mullis, R-Chickamauga, and Renee Unterman, R-Buford, have been angling to replace Balfour. The two senators have offices next to each other in the Capitol basement. Unterman’s is bright and neat.

Mullis’ den has a large trash bin outside, and is topsy-turvy inside.

“Painting?” suggested an aide. Not hardly.

So that’s one troublesome Senator out of power. Will they still let Murphy chair with his FDIC trouble hanging around? Is bad behavior still rewarded?

That picture sums up Georgia’s method for archiving history — give it to the custodian to be recycled (no wonder we never learn from the past — it’s all up in smoke!)

Asap, your feeble attempt at humor shows how out-of-touch you are. Politicians switched from print to electronic pornography ten years ago, just like everyone else. No trash bin required.

I wasn’t talking about neckid men and women, I meant enviro-porn.

Not sure if we’re talking about the same thing, my idea of “enviro-porn” is taking a nice long look at pictures of the Grand Canyon.

What kind of porn do Republicans like? Old Testament Style?

We like P&L statements that are in the black but with obozo around they’re hard to come by.

I guess that explains why women generally find you repulsive.

Don Balfour is an old-time political heavy who gleefully crushed anyone in opposition to him, regardless of how mildly. He finally exposed himself to voters when he justified the huge increases in University System tuition and fees by saying that tuition in Georgia was “embarrassingly low”, thus showing his utter contempt for people who were, and are, struggling to pay the increases. He has needed to be replaced for a long time.

However, Jeff Mullis is a nitwit. He was talked into being a lead sponsor on legislation to authorize about $400 million in taxpayer funds to build an above-ground pipeline for AGL Resources on the premise that it would bring cheaper natural gas to Georgia than other states pay. Apparently the esteemed gentleman has never heard of global pricing, but he was very glad to step up with his hand out for AGL Resources.

Isn’t there someone competent who could take Balfour’s place?

I could be wrong but typically the GOP slime in Ga are rarely talked in to any thing, but BRIBED rather handsomely….Agreed he and his fellow GOP are nitwits, thieves and shady dealers. Lets hope they take out all the trash..

Among the group’s complaints are Hagel’s support of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, his opposition to the military’s repealing of its “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, and of course, his comment that an “openly, aggressively gay” man should not be selected to serve as a U.S. ambassador.

Awesome! Finally, a voice of sanity in the obozo administration.

It’s been a free-for-all casino at the legislature for a decade.
The Democrats were bad enough, but the Republicans, being new to power and full of arrogance, knew no limits to their greed and self-dealing. They didn’t even try to hide it.
All of us have suffered as they let the state go to hell while they devoted themselves to self-enrichment.

“Isn’t there someone competent who could take Balfour’s place?”

Are you kidding? The term “competent” has not been even remotely used to describe the Georgia Legislature since at least the days of Zell Miller, and even then that term was ONLY remotely used to compliment this bunch of notoriously moronic narcisstic sociopaths.
