How to survive a mass shooting: Alabama’s video advice

Alabama’s Department of Homeland Security has released the above six-minute video on how to survive a mass shooting incident.

The sobering video is more disturbing than graphic, but the advice seems sound.

Two things to note as you watch: First, the lack of a deus ex machina. No one comes to the rescue with a pocketed firearm. The possibility isn’t even addressed. Secondly, you have to wonder what the grade-school version would look like.

From the Associated Press:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Department of Homeland Security has released a video that instructs people on what to do in the event of a shooting like the one at an elementary school in Connecticut.

Gov. Robert Bentley asked Alabama Homeland Security officials to develop a strategic plan for dealing with such incidents after a gunman killed 20 students and six adults Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. The shooter also killed himself.

The release of the video comes as Alabama officials seek ways to prevent similar incidents. A state legislator, Rep. Kerry Rich o Albertville, said he is working on legislation that would allow schools to arm some teachers or other employees. The workers to be armed would be chosen by the system’s superintendent. Also, state officials have scheduled a meeting for Jan. 9 in Montgomery for legislators, law enforcement and education officials to discuss possible ways to prevent such shootings.

A spokesman for the governor, Jeremy King, said the video was originally produced by the Houston Police Department. It was released in Alabama with a short introduction by state Homeland Security Director Spencer Collier.

The video depicts a shooting inside an office.

Other measures taken include additional training for law enforcement and continued use of a hotline and website where citizens can report suspicious people or situations.

Collier said it cost less than $5,000 to add the introduction, edit the video to make it compatible for an Alabama audience and distribute it. That expenditure was approved by the Legislature’s Contract Review Committee, said Collier, a former House member from Mobile County and an ex-state trooper.

“I encourage you to be prepared,” Collier said in his introduction. In the video, a man, dressed in black shoots several workers as he casually strolls through the crowded office. The narrator offers several pieces of advice, including:

— “Encourage others to leave with you, but don’t let them get in your way.”

— “Remember what’s important is not your stuff. Leave your belongings behind.”

— “Your survival may depend on whether or not you have a plan.”

Although the video was made before the Connecticut shootings, Collier said it was originally scheduled to be distributed in January. But that was moved up because of the shooting at the elementary school.

Collier said the video will be offered for training purposes to law enforcement agencies. It will also be used to help train education officials and private employers.

He said Homeland Security officials have found the best course of action is to offer training to a few selected individuals and then let them train others. Collier said his department would work with education officials to make sure the video matches safety plans already in existence for schools.

My personal plan for survival in case of a mass shooting is to find the nearest fat girl and hide behind her, two fat girls are even better shields!

Aaahhhhh, we’re fixing to find out how much the libs really love the troops -

You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

duck and cover is for mass destruction
running only works for slow bullets
hiding behind women of any size is cowardly
arming for defense ends up with friendly fire deaths
charging an ambush is the military tactict of choice, but someone has to die
blaming video games is the easist solution

According to the FBI annual crime statistics, the number of murders committed annually with hammers and clubs far outnumbers the number of murders committed with a rifle.

This is an interesting fact, particularly amid the Democrats’ feverish push to ban many different rifles, ostensibly to keep us safe of course.

Another interesting fact: According to the FBI, nearly twice as many people are killed by hands and fists each year than are killed by murderers who use rifles.

Alright everybody, freeze! Hold your hands out so the libs can chop them off! We’re gonna letcha keep your teethers but let me warn ya, no biting anybody! Or else.

Unless you live in a minority neighborhood in Chicago, then here, have this assault weapon. Kill that little girl, the one over there. We won’t do nothing about it.

What is this friendly fire/ innocent bystander garbage?

The libs are willing to protect the lives of one or two innocent bystanders in exchange for three or four dozen dead kids?

What kind of faulty thinking is this?

It all began last month when the agency, which is primarily responsible for distributing benefits to the disabled and retired people, posted an announcement seeking bids for 174,000 hollow-point bullets.

In the face of the furor, the Social Security Administration’s public affairs shop — which spends most of its time issuing releases about speeding disability decisions or looking up benefits information — issued a statement explaining that its 295 agents need the bullets for target practice and to protect the agency’s 66 offices across the nation.

Aahhh, yes, our government protects itself but not our kids.

It will be a sad day when guns are outlawed and criminals (politicians included) still have weapons..A sadder day when when they pry mu weapon from my cold dead fingers.

One thought to protest our Children while at school.

1. Take funding from Shady Deals guards Put more SROS in school;s. Deal has victor hill to protect him.

2. Reinstate fuel tax on Delta.

3.Or simply move all the cops running radar on I75/85/285 etc to the schools. Let the GSP handle the interstates. Train the Hazmat people to direct traffic as it seams there are an abundance of them standing around doing nothing when a accident spills a little fuel.

is a lot better.

Doesn’t take a Sherlock Holmes or a Dr. House to know the best thing to do is to arrest the faction obviously committing these mass shootings…so conveniently without any security camera footage, or any of the multiple shooter/psychos credible witnesses and aerial photography confirm.

Bet good money the same Fed Scam “Big Oil” faction we know popped JFK and did 9/11 is who’s doing these shootings to disarm the People.

Let’s arrest the Rockefellers and Rothschilds and the corrupt elements in the Opus Dei FBI, Knights of Malta CIA and Mossad, and re-establish the New Israel, the prophesied Zion our ancestors founded in covenant with the Creator.

America is G-d’s Promised Land. All the evil which has befallen us can all be traced to the satanic Entity our Founder and Prophet Th. Jefferson correctly identified as “the real Anti-Christ,” “an engine for enslaving mankind.”

Iceland threw them of their backs…G-d’s grace shall allow us to do the same…and be the generation which witnesses Babylon fall in a day.

Well if at least one person in the setting had a gun then more may survive. If you can not carry a gun then make sure you find a gun control freak in your office and make sure you throw that person at the shooter while you run the other way.

I think it’s funny that people don’t carry in “prohibited” places. Concealed carry means….concealed and secret from those around you. The worst thing is you have to get another job instead of getting dead.

In Britain OVER 50% of burglaries are home invasions with armed suspects. Armed with knives, clubs, and yes…occasionally guns (gasp!). If you think moving there is safer just think of this advice given by the British Home Office on being burglarized.

“Stay calm and still, do not attempt to challenge or confront the intruders. Do not make eye contact or speak unless spoken to.”

What a country!

Aesop* … the only thing interesting about the fact that far more murders are committed using hammers and clubs than guns is that anyone would find it particularly interesting. After all, every home has a hammer (often more than one), and clubs (or club-like objects) are a dime-a-dozen … they’re everywhere. Nor is any training required to use a hammer or club … first-timers of any age do very well. Nor do they have to be maintained to keep them in good working order. Nor is any preparation required … just pick one up start swinging. Nor do they attract much attention … the dull thud of a broken body doesn’t travel very far. Nor is any planning required … just fly into a rage and go for it. So, Is it really any wonder?

Alabama may try to arm some teachers? Well, let’s see, what will they arm them with, and M-60 machine gun? A teacher’s job is to teach, not to maintain a state of readiness against an armed attack on the school.

The NRA has forced some in the Republican Party into the radical position of creating an arms race in our schools. It does not bother me too much that the Republicans continue to climb further out on the limb because it makes it that much more effective when the time comes to cut the limb off.

The real lesson here: We must live now, cherish our loved ones, and do everything in our power to perform whatever acts of kindness and meaning we can. Let no opportunity go by when we could be making the world around us a better place. Given the number of hateful, spiteful, ignorant, crazy-azz, psycho murther effers that surround us (including the ones who post here how proud they are of their little pistols), we never know how many days we have left. Make today count! Well, that’s the lesson I took from it, anyway.

Aesop, the FBI data you include (more deaths by blunt objects and hands/fists than rifles) is misleading and clouds the issue, but that’s your point. Right? This type of canard is trumpeted by individuals and media outlets as if it somehow proves the logic of your argument. It doesn’t. In 2011, according to the FBI, blunt objects accounted for 3.9% of homicides. Personal weapons (hands, etc.) accounted for 5.7% of homicides. Firearms, on the other hand, accounted for 67.7% of homicides in 2011. Almost 70%, over two-thirds of homicides are the result of firearms. Of that number, yes, rifles only accounted for 2.5% of homicides, but the number of homicides by handguns is almost 4 times larger than the next largest group of weapons (knives). Guns are the leading cause of death by homicide in the U.S. Period. For those interested, the most recent data is available in the report, “Crime in the United States 2011.” Finally, if outlawing assault rifles saved even half of those killed by rifles in 2011, that would be a victory to me.

The Second Amendment is sacrosanct: Those unable to understand that an individual’s sovereignty cannot be maintained without the means at hand to effect it are not yet worthy of the name American, or Georgian.

Holiness and righteousness extends from the Creator, Our Sovereign by Covenant and Creed, and goes person to person, family to family, neighborhood to neighborhood, city to city. Entire swathes of our prophesied Promised Land are now fiefdoms of corruption, moral swamps of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Shall Atlanta and Georgia be swayed by the transparent evils others embrace?

Only those willfully blind or consciously in service to the evil which knows the Second Amendment’s reason for existence – resistance to the tyrannical powers patently obvious in Col. Hunt’s confession to the unpunished Bush/Nixon/CIA assassination of our president which sent 58,000 of us to die shedding the blood of millions of innocents, and went on to further secure their unconstitutional money franchise by committing 9/11 – pretend to be ignorant of the anomalies present in the Aurora, Sikh Temple, and Newtown shootings.

G-d is not mocked. Truth and Justice is divine.
