After declaring U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss “theoretically vulnerable” this week, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina has run out the rest of its Georgia poll, with these highlights:
– Apparently bruised by bitter campaigns over transportation (lost) and charter schools (won), Gov. Nathan Deal’s job approval rating stands at 37 percent among voters – one reason why Deal, moving into his crucial third year as governor, needs a smooth and productive legislative session in January.
The PPP survey declares Deal to be vulnerable if Democrats are able to muster the right candidate in 2014 – a very large “if.” Some hypothetical match-ups: U.S. Rep. John Barrow, 44/40; Kasim Reed (never happen), 47/40; State Sen. Jason Carter, 46/38.
– Likewise, the fiscal cliff debate may be taking its toll on U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, whose approval rating also stands at 37 percent. But he isn’t up for re-election until 2016.
– Former President Jimmy Carter approve/disapprove rating stands at 55/38. President Barack Obama is at 46 percent approval, matching his Georgia ballot showing in November.
– Chipper Jones should consider politics. The retired Atlanta Braves third-baseman’s job approve/disapprove rating is 57/11.
– Georgia fans outnumber Georgia Tech groupies, 40/17. Which pushes Attorney General Sam Olens’ unfortunate Tweet of last week into irrelevancy.
– 70 percent of those polled thought a new stadium home for the Atlanta Falcons was unnecessary.
– 42 percent of Georgia Republicans said they would be willing to secede from the United States because of President Barack Obama’s re-election. A like number say they wouldn’t. From PPP spokesman Tom Jensen: “I doubt that many Republicans would really secede if they had the choice- not that many people are signing the secession petitions- but their willingness to say they would is a measure of how unhappy they are over the president’s reelection.”

Who is PPP anyway? I heard their polls are not very accurate.I doubt very much 42% of Republicans would secede! A silly question, and a silly answer. And also think Deal’s approval rating somewhat above 37%,.Pretty much a waste of time and money poll. Come on !

Boy, that Google search can really be complicated, but I managed to figure out how to use it, to get the following answer for you from Wikipedia:
“A study by Fordham University found that, of 28 firms studied, PPP had the most accurate poll on the presidential national popular vote, both its independently conducted poll and the one it does in collaboration with Daily Kos and the SEIU. PPP correctly called the winner of the presidential election in all 19 states it polled in the final week of the election, as well as the winners of all the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial races it surveyed.”
But, you’re probably like karl rove, the dick, morris and other pox news folk who don’t cotton to all this scientific gobbledy gook polling stuff. You know what you know and don’t even try to tell you differently, right?

Secession was tried 160 years ago. We fought a war over it, remember? Didn’t accomplish anything then, but now it surfaces again because a minority don’t like the votes of the majority. Just forget about the Constitution and the rule of law because we didn’t get our way. As the other commenters said, nothing is stopping these folks from getting the hell out of the US and going somewhere else. Just don’t try and drag the rest of us with you. And I wouldn’t want to live anywhere where their idea of government is in place.

What, no mention of the new stadium? Wonder where that factored in to the 37%?
And I suspect that “secession” number will grow as the Commie-in-Chief continues to bash individual and states’ rights to continue his power grab. (”Limited Federal Government? What’s that?”) The end result is all too predictable.

@Ric, Bush inheirited a surplus from Clinton and over spent it on two unfunded wars, a huge tax cut and adding the prescription drug benefit, plunging us into trillions of debt. But as Cheney said, “Deficits don’t matter.” Now Republicans are screaming about them and pointing fingers at the Democrats, when it would have been much more helpful if they had stopped Bush’s profligacy that lead us here.

I make over 100K a year, I am single with no children and I work every single day for what I have. It is miopic thinking such as your’s that cost Repubs the election. See the more you alienate people, the smaller the circle gets, and sooner or later those alienated outnumber those in the circle and become the majority…. Thus those in the circle slowly become the minority.

It is amazing how many folks in this nation enjoy taking care of people who are not willing to take responsibility for themselves. Show me in the constitution where taking money from a group of people and giving to another group. Ohhh, sorry you dont believe in the constitution.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong
You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.
These are great quotes and so true yesterday, today and tomorrow.
This country is receiving exactly what it deserves when the mentality of the people of the country elects leaders like Obama.

Let me see if I have this correct. Since Obama won re election (which the incubamnt President usually does) but republicans still:
30 governors are Republican
30 State Legislatures are controlled by Republicans
In 6 other states, Republicans control at least one chamber in the legislative branch
and the voters put Republicans back in charge of the US HOR’s.
This all means that Republicans got their asses kicked and should roll over and allow Obama to do whatever he pleases? Is this what you think? If so then you are in for a big disappointment.

So some of you patriotic Americans in Red States are so mad that a Kenyan, Muslim, socialist black man got elected President of the USA for a second time that you want to demonstrate your patriotism by seceding from the United States of American? Go ahead. Make our day.
But be careful what you wish for. Here’s how it could go down, and it might be so pretty for you after all is said and done.
We would get the West Coast, all of the Northeast and the upper Midwest.
You would get Texas, Oklahoma and all the former slave states.
We would keep Hawaii too, the foreign country with warm water and beautiful beaches where Barack Hussein Obama was born without a birth certificate.
You can have Alaska and stare at Russia from your front porches.
To be fair, we may have to split up some states.
You get North Florida. We get South Florida. After all, what would you want with all those gay people in South Beach and old Jews in Miami?
We get North Virginia. You get South Virginia. To be fair, we’ll let you keep the University of Virginia. Go Cavaliers! Plus you need at least one place to educate some leaders who believe in science.
But Austin, Atlanta and New Orleans get to be their own Blue city/states, sort of like West Berlin before the Wall came down. We’ll even pay to move the capital of Texas from Austin to W’s hometown of Midland, where as one native recently put it, “There used to be one Democrat in town, but I think she died”.
We might even merge with Canada. That way we get single-payer healthcare, solvent banks, the Royal Canadian Mounties, and Ryan Gosling (eat your hearts our Red-nation women).
To sum up briefly:
We get Bruce Springsteen, Jay Z and Beyonce. You get Ted Nugent and Meatloaf.
Plus Willie Nelson gets to park his bus anywhere he likes in the Blue America.
We get Elizabeth Warren. You get Todd Aiken. (Hey, we’ll even keep Chris Christie. He’s too large to move, anyway.)
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.
We get the New York Philharmonic. You get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
We get Oprah. You get Paula Deen.
And Blue America will have an easy repatriation policy for the ancestors of slaves still stuck in the former Confederate states, as well as a path to citizenship for undocumented workers and their children from both Red and Blue America who have worked hard/studied hard and put down roots. We’ll even have a 21st century version of “40 acres and a mule” with education, job training and work at a fair wage for those who need it. (But here’s a warning: good luck getting your crops picked, your kids asses wiped, and your pools cleaned without a bunch of low-paid undocumented workers.)
Any Red-nation NBA team that wants to gets to move to a Blue state city without its own team. Hey, how about them World Champion Pittsburgh Thunder?
And the New York Jets will send you back Tim Tebow for a player to be named later.
We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get backwoods crystal meth labs.
We get Intel, Microsoft and Apple. You get WorldCom.
We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.
We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to pay your fair share for once.
Speaking of all those federal taxes you love to hate. Most of it comes from us and goes to you. So stop talking nonsense about how “It’s our money, not the government’s money”. Of the 19 states that send more money to Washington than they get back in benefits, 14 are Blue. And of 31 states that get more money back from the Feds than they pay in taxes, 23 are Red. It’s not your money. It’s our f**cking money. So from here on out, you can pay for your own damn roads and bridges.
Which state do you think has the lowest divorce rate? It’s Taxachusetts, the first state to recognize gay marriage. Think that’s some aberration? How about this? 9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are in the Blue states. And where are the highest divorce rates? 10 of the top 10 are Red.
But gay people getting married is going to ruin the family for you? Seems like you’re ruining it pretty well on your own.
So we get a bunch of happy families, straight and gay. You get a bunch of single moms and deadbeat dads.
With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve Texas wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley, and MIT.
With the Red States you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92 percent of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, and Bob Jones University.
So, as we said at the start. You want to secede? Go ahead. Make our Day. But be careful what you wish for. You might not be so happy if you actually got it. If you ask nicely, we might even take you back.

In your statement you were letting us know you were an educated working black man. My question to you is “Did you vote for Obama because he is black or did you vote for Obama because of his accouplishments in life and as the president and leader of our country for the past four years?”
If you are like the vast majority of the black community who voted for Obama because HE IS BLACK are you any different then those people who did not vote for him because he is black?
This country will never begin to heal our differences until the people give up the labels and look for common ground. I am sure you and I have many common desires. A desire to live in safety, a desire to be compensated for our effort, a desire to worship freely. When you look at us we are not that different.
We are not Africa-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latin-Americans we are all AMERICANS with the same goals and desires.
My differences with Obama and the Left is not the color of their skin it is the differences of our beliefs. I embrace capitalism and I will until someone shows me a better economic system. I know the next word I will hear is about the greed.
I have one question for any of you, “Show me one area of life without greed”. Greed and fear are the two basic emotions driving every decision human beings make.
The biggest difference between the left and the right is the left thinks there is ONE economic pie (Government) and you have to divide the one pie among everyone. I believe anyone can build their own pie and then share their pie with others if they choose. Let’s teach the 47% how to build their own pies.

Before the 2000 presidential election, the traditional color coding scheme was “Blue for Republican, Red for Democrat,”[2] in line with historical European associations (red was used for left-leaning parties).[3] Traditional political mapmakers, at least throughout the 20th century, have used blue to represent the modern-day Republicans, and the Federalists who preceded them. Perhaps this was a holdover from the days of the Civil War when the predominantly Republican North was “Blue”.[2] Even earlier, in the 1888 presidential election, Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison used maps that coded blue for the Republicans, the color Cleveland perceived to represent the Union and “Lincoln’s Party”, and red for the Democrats.[4] The parties themselves had no official colors, with candidates variously using either or both of the national color palette of red and blue (white being unsuitable for printed materials). Time magazine assigned red to the Democrats and blue to the Republicans in its election graphics in every election from 1988 to 2000. The Washington Post’s election graphics for the 2000 election were Republican-blue, Democrat-red.[3]

If a state were to secede, they will have to give up nearly everything. Any military bases in the seceded states will have to be closed and all military personal will be relocated back to America, except for guards to monitor the new border. The Coast Guard will no longer be able to occupy the waters belonging to the seceded state (if applicable to their geography), so they will have to form their own Navy to protect their own boarders from foreign invaders, drug smugglers, illegal aliens, and terrorists.
U.S. passports will have to be turned over immediately, entry into the U.S. will require a new passport from the new country, and visas will need to be obtained for people staying in the U.S. for more than two weeks. Funding for highways, transportation, bridges, infrastructure, and education will undoubtedly will be cut entirely. Representatives to the U.S. Congress from the former states will be asked to leave Washington D.C. immediately. All U.S. business licenses will be revoked. The new country will suffer large amounts of unemployment because anybody working for the U.S. government (Federal Civil Service employees) within that state will be terminated, and since the FAA will no longer be running in their airports, all air traffic controllers will also be terminated. Anybody receiving payments for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Disability can reapply and the U.S. Congress will decide if foreigners are allowed to receive payments from the U.S. government (unlikely). Also to add insult to injury, the seceded state will probably have to pay their portion of the national debt before leaving.

I hear they now plan to fly the Predator drones that the military uses in the middle east over the citizens of this country in the name of Homeland Security. Just another loss of liberty and freedom in this country. Its a shame.

The first debate was the excuse the polling agencies and the LMS made to stop using the bogus methodology and to start to portray a more accurate look at the election before election day. The LMS has been holding the water for Obama for his entire term in office and now that it appears he is going to lose they have to put on the perception that they are fait and balanced so that they can go after Romney when he is President and not have the American people totally turn them off and they lose their jobs.

Secede and be self supporting. No federal funding for anything. Federally suported employment would go to other states. All defense contractors in the state would go elsewhere, Corps of Engineers activities in Georgia would cease. Drug interdiction would be state supported only. The state would pay for all transportatiion of illegal immigrants back to their home counties. Etc. The upsides? No federal taxes and no Obama.

Seems to me that we need to set up an array of Secession Exchanges. Namely, that when all those folks decide to ’self-secede’, there’ll be a Craiglist-like process where the rest of us can look over and then choose what of their stuff we would want. I know a bunch of em that have second homes, and even some cars, that they won’t be able to take with em. Actually, it’s probably more likely we’ll be able to do that – the secession thing – than when the ‘rapture’ comes.

As a life long Pub/Con, I would like to point out that those Pubs who said they would secede probably didn’t say that because of how unhappy they are with Obama’s re-election. They said it beause they are stupid . . . . really stoopid. They don’t have a clue about history or how American government works now, or about how homogenous we have become as a culture (I said homogenous, not “agreeable”) and as a nation, and how interdependent we all are on each other, coast to coast, because of the enormous advances in communications (the Internet) and transportation and air/rail/ cargo technology.
Shows you where the intelletual level stands in this party in Georgia — count on the Georgia Pubs for simple, I mean simpleton, answers to complex problems and issues. Once you get past “No more taxes, abortion, or illegal immigration, or jes good ol’ boys doin’ bidness under the Dome, and we don’t need any ethics reform” — in a political discussion — it is pretty much blank, deer in the headlights stares from there on out.
And wouldn’t it just be a hoot to watch them piss away Chambliss’s Senate seat. Here’s a guy trying to drag the party forward and come up with a bipartisan plan to get this economy going again (very complex issues for those trying to fix them instead of just comment on them), and of course he used the “T” word, and now he will be challenged. His opponents, who must have slept through the last election, think that going even harder right and being even more uncompromising will win the day. Who knows what they are thinking, or smoking? And probably, some know-nothing Christine O’Donnell type Tea Party conservative ideologue, who doesn’t understand the three branches of government, and has interesting things to say about rape and immigration, i.e. just lay back and enjoy it, you won’t get pregnant, and just deport them all, will get nominated — and next thing ya know, the Dems will have that seat back, just like they got them back in Delaware, Nevada, Missouri, and Indiana.
The King Roy years and the arrogant Dem dominance under the Gold Dome were infuriating, but you have to admit, this state was moving forward in those times, and it isn’t any more, and it hasn’t since What Me Worry? Sonny Perdue was elected. Ahh hyilt, ahh hyilt, ahh hyilt . . .why shore Gawga oughta secede if’n we could . . . cuz we got whupped in the last presidential election. Idiots.

UGA ECON MAJOR
First it is shameful that a moron like you could even be in school at my University.
Secondly just exactly what classes have taught you in school that raising taxes on those that create jobs makes our economy better? In my town of 100,000 there were over 80 foreclosure notices listed in the newspaper last night. It has been that way for 3 years. These people didn’t get loans they didn’t deserve. They have been paying on their homes for 10 -15 years. They lost their jobs and don’t have one or had to take one that pays half of what their job did when they got the loan 10 years ago. Ask them how this “Hopey, Changey” thing is working for them. They need good paying jobs. People with money are the ones that create jobs. Having money to spend above your housing and utilities is what drives the economy. What part of that is wrong per your education at the University of Georgia?
What does your econ study say about this green energy garbage? What does it say about the administrations policy of trying to make conventional energy cost so much that you can’t afford it so you have to buy an electric car? What do your professors say about Energy Secretary Chu saying that we have to find a way to get gasoline to European price levels? What does he say that will do the the family man making $10 an hour at his Obama administration created job? Does he say the high paying jobs that would be created by the Keystone Pipeline that this idiot wont sign wold be bad for our economy? I bet the people that want to work those jobs wouldn’t believe that.
What does your econ professor say about the Ethanol subsidies that used 1/3 of the entire corn crop in the US last year? 1/3 of the corn grown in the US produced 14 billion gallons of ethanol this year. The EPA mandates 36 billion gallons by 2022. Just exactly where is it going to come from? The impact on food prices already is tremendous. Hamburger meat over $4.00 a pound is one example. How high do you think our food prices will go when even more corn is used to make Ethanol? And there will never be enough to fulfill those mandates. So it will have to be imported and a high tariff will be placed on it and that’s how they will get your fuel to $10 a gallon. What does your econ teach about that smart guy?
You are a disgrace to the University of Georgia.

In reality, Red states have more abortions, more capital punishment, more teenage pregnancies, more divorces, lower levels of education, and take more money from the federal government than they pay in. Every state had people grumbling about secession during the GWB years. Mostly because he was a dimwitted sociopath and war criminal who tanked the economy. I was living / working in Europe at the time (Paris … incredibly good healthcare system there, by the way – much, much better than here) and the US went from being almost universally loved in Europe to being hated. It was an amazing time, that has thankfully turned around now.
But the numbers of people involved in the secession thing was very low – something like 0.8% in Vermont at the peak. Nothing like we’re seeing now. If Obama was really serious about reducing the deficit, he’d cut loose Georgia, Alabama, Texas, South Carolina and Mississippi. The government is smaller now – much smaller – than when GWB was president. The loss of public sector workers has been a terrible drag on the economy. It would be better if you didn’t have your facts all mixed up. It’s kind of hard to debate someone that thinks socialism – what cities, states and countries are formed to develop – is a bad thing. Or that we haven’t had it since the formation of the US. Kind of sad. I’m in the 1% and my income taxes aren’t high enough. We borrowed money to pay for two wars and countless other things. Someone has to pay the bills. There just isn’t enough discretionary spending to cut that would make a dent in the deficit. If you want a real Libertarian place to live without any socialism or big government, you might try Somalia.

Sadly, many moderates are actually liberals who don’t like the association. I’d say at this point, the nation tilts middle left at the least – union workers, blue collar guys, blacks, single females, latinos. Repubs have a dwindling base of upper middle class folks, folks who hate abortion and like the 2nd amendment. luckily, most of these folks do live in rural areas where gov’t is cheap – so, their qualify of life is easier to maintain. oddly, although most want growth, big cities are not run efficiently – too much graft and free loaders.

We can’t sustain what our leaders have done. the key killer is global “free trade”. Only thing this is guaranteed to do is lower blue collar – union and non – wages. Instead of raising taxes to pay for the huge gov’t obama wants, he is OK borrowing the money / wealth we have transferred to China. It would be better to have import tariffs to force business to produce 85% of the things sold at Walmart in the USA – would increase retail costs, but make our economy healthier. also, make china poorer. I wish Obama could get green energy done – but, not imposing tariff protection on this “start up” industry just allows economic mercenaries like China to guillotine our nascent green energy industry. selah.

Now they have a perfectly good domed stadium that is probably not paid for in full and want an outdoor stadium, or a retractable roof stadium…Make up your mind! If the weather stays this warm in the late fall and winter, they won’t need a roof at all! Just rip the canvas one off the dome and save a fortune! At this rate, the Braves will need a new stadium in about four years. I don’t think so.

No, Steve.
Anything you say has context.
Obama was saying that there are many smart and hard working people who don’t have their own business. He was also saying that if you do have a business, you had help, whether it was a good teacher as a student, a good parent, whatever, and that, for example, someone with a business didn’t build a public road or bridge that their business may use, in the course of business.
I’ve quoted it a few times, and in context, nothing he said was controversial. Someone with their own business didn’t build every single road they use, every bridge they cross, etc.
But, if you just dishonestly snip it here or there, you can make it sound any way you want.
Context matters. If you ignore it, you’re being purposefully dishonest to try to score points. Period.

It’s plain now after reading a lot of your posts that reading comprehension is not one of your strong suits. My comment about states who are takers vs. makers had nothing to do with total federal funding. What I said – clearly – is that the southern states get more federal funding than they pay in taxes, so they are a net negative. That’s just the fact. Good grief … who couldn’t figure out that California would get the most total funding? We’ve got almost 40 million people living here, so figuring out total funding needs isn’t exactly rocket science. (I also noticed that you get your facts from Glenn Beck. Great idea!)
Face it … the blue states have wealthier and more educated people in them who pay taxes to support poorer states. So you should be thankful for socialism. Red states, for the most part, are poorer, less educated, have higher divorce rates, and are a general drain on the rest of us. Facts – as we all know – have a liberal bias.

Thanks for proving my point. Bush II more than DOUBLED the national debt –not to mention, Bush’s policies bled over well into Obama’s years. Bush I increased the national debt by 56%, and Reagan TRIPLED the national debt. Clinton had a SURPLUS! You’re probably not too familiar with that term, being a Republcan’t and all. The national debt under Obama has been the slowest spending per GDP in history…not to mention, given the circumstances, increasing the national debt by 40% (yes, that’s what it is), is pretty good. Keep trying, though guys…this is fun!!
Also, let me let you in on a little secret Faux Noise probably didn’t tell you…the debt was raised so much since 2008 because of the greatest recession since the Great Depression…regardless, of who was in office, massive government spending would have ensued. Both your articles do not mention what those states PAY INTO the federal kitty per capita or per GDP in that state (which I think is a better barometer).
It is the difference between what a state takes in vs. what it sends to Washington that makes it a “moocher” state.
For FY 2007 (the latest tabled date I could find)
The top 10 contributor states per capita were:

The states in the article are also the highest states with African American and Hispanic populations.
Just another white man, with white problems, blaming the minorities. For example, you do realize that African Americans make up only 13% of the ENTIRE US POPULATION…actually, I doubt you do. Ignorance doesn’t have room for facts.
I understand those facts but I also know that African American are disproportionally are a higher % of the poor and disproportionally receive a higher % of total government benefits then their % of the population. With saying this then when there are more African Americans living in the south then any other region of the country then they would be less likely to be paying taxes as well and skew the state numbers.
Just the facts:
“African Americans Benefit Disproportionately from the Food Stamp Program
One in three food stamp households is headed by an African American. More than a third of food stamp benefits — over $10 billion per year — are issued to African-Americans. (According to Census data, African Americans make up about 12 percent of the U.S. population.) ”

OK. Who is posting themselves as Robert E. Lee on this blog? I would kindly ask you, sir, to honor his memory by NOT turning this into a North vs. South issue. General Lee chastised one of his students, while teaching at Washington College in Virginia, when the student made derogatory comments about General Grant in 1868. Robert E. Lee was a man of honor and integrity. He graduated from West Point ( with NO demerits), oversaw the construction of Fortress Monroe with the Army Corp in 1832 and was a steadfast military professional throughout his career. His decision to command the Army of Northern Virginia was based on his devotion to Virginia, nothing related to the politics surrounding the civil war and NOT an advocate of the practice of slavery. I am a son of the South, with both Virginia and Georgia roots. Please be consiterate or choose a new moniker .

If you want a little diversity and Democratic leadership why not try Detroit. I hear they could use a little help these days. Nice try. $10 Billion is a drop in the bucket compared to what the RED states require to maintain. Face it man, you’re wrong, any way you slice it. Blaming African Americans is a tired game that you all have been losing for years. The data just simply doesn’t support it. Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950’s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
–Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
–We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
–You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
–Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.
–We’ll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.
–You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.
–We’ll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
–You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.
–We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and rednecks.
–We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.
–You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
–You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them security.
–We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values.
–You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.
–We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.
–You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.
–We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
–We’ll keep “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The National Anthem.”
–I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute “Imagine”, “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing”, “Kum Ba Ya” or “We Are the World”.
–We’ll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.
–Since it often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall
Law Student and an American
P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you.

A lesson in irony.
The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is actually proud of the fact it is distributing the greatest number of free meals and food stamps ever.
Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to “Please Do Not Feed the Animals.” Their stated reason for the policy is because the animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not take care of themselves.
Thus ends today’s lesson.

I asked her ” do you mean Saddam Hussien?” she said yes, I said he didnt attack us on 9/11 and she replied “their all the same”. I just dropped the subject! I knew all i needed to know. I am a Republican, as are 99% of the people I know. Not one person would support secession. It is a ludicrous notion. One more reason why the AJC is dying (dead), it swung too far to the left.
I conducted a poll of Obama voters and confirmed the theory that Obama voters are unemployed losers waiting for handouts paid for by “taxin’ da rich.” Don’t ask about polling methods.

Yep, weetamoe’s self-appointed role as the Fox News representative on the AJC blogs is humorous.
If not pathetically laughable.
As someone with much more intellectual honesty than he wrote:
The fact is that the divisiveness is almost entirely the Republican’s own creation – they have challenged his status as an American, they have impugned his faith and they have even questioned his loyalty and patriotism. From the very beginning, they have pursued a conscious strategy of refusing to compromise in any way whatsoever, to the point that they have purged any in their own camp who dare to even suggest such a course. (See Lugar, Richard)
But don’t get me wrong, as long as you fake conservatives keep getting trounced like you just did (which makes three out of the past four elections) I am more than content with this divisiveness…

GA is at the bottom in education. The reality is 40% of GA students don’t even graduate from high school. Our level of education keeps many companies out. We have the worst housing market and high unemployment. Our average income is lower than the national average. We have poor infrastructure throughout most of the state. The percentage of people in GA living in poverty is much higher than most blue states. Also, if GA were to secede, the world would suddenly become billions of years younger than it really is in textbooks. And, secession went so well the last time. It is funny because most of them would state that they are patriots. Too bad, it could never happen because poor red states like GA are so dependent on the blue states.
GA needs the blue states more than they need them. What loss it would be for the blue states-lol. Maybe the blue states should secede, and let you drown. It is even more funny when you consider that GA is one of the most prosperous red states. The thought of Alabama seceding has to the the funniest thing I have ever heard. If the blue states seceded, they would still have the 2nd largest economy. If the red states seceded….That is why the red-states rejects are just bluster. They are like dependent children who talk back to their parents but need them to survive. It makes for funny story though. Your rejects put smile on my face.

In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between mental and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life’s prime want; after the productive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly—only then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners:
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!

I would like to add: If Republican economics worked, why are most of the red states so poor? Shouldn’t the red states be the most prosperous? Both the red and blue states are under the fed., so don’t use the argument that DC is holding the red states down. The blue states out performed the red states even when Reagan and Bush was in charge. A history of discrimination, backwardness, and lack of educational investment are the reasons why most red states are not competitive. Those were stupid decisions that were made at the state level. Own it.
High paying jobs won’t come this way–not enough of GA residents have the education or skills to do them. Even setting the corporate tax rate at 0% in GA won’t change that fact. GA would just end up with lot of low-paying jobs. It would become the 3rd-World answer for American industrialists–a great place for low-paying and low-skill jobs. Sure, a few would get rich off of this system, but it would not create real wealth for the masses. The most important need is an educated workforce, something GA will lack regardless. Most GA residents lack education and skills–worse than the national average. They are not able to do high-paying jobs. Poverty would only increase in GA as wages would free fall. Without a minimum-wage, I could foresee at least a million residents working for three-five dollars per hour.

It’s amazing how people have claims in here about unpatriotic and the likeness to education and democrat-yet they apparently do not know their own history very well.
Our history began with a seceding of our own right from Britain, but more importantly, we formed a “Union” – and that “Union” was of the collective states, where the states sovereignty was actually a pretty important issue for our founding fathers. In fact, it’s the whole reason that you have 2 chambers, and the “more” powerful office in general is regarded as the Senate, where states have equal power and influence over a vote.
The trouble for the “Union”, is the Federal Government has largely overstepped it’s founding purpose. We have become a tax poor society, and the democrats have played a great smoke screen on this whole 1%. The bottom line, the government has a spending problem that it cannot tax it’s way out of.
S&P downgrading our credit rating should have been a wake up call, but instead, the general populace cannot see the forest for the trees – and politics in general for both parties have become a game of smoke and mirrors for election – not a candidate on principal.
This country is in trouble, and you have the radicals that make the trouble enormously larger than it is, which makes the other half just think their point is crazy. The sad thing is it’s not terribly far from the truth if we don’t fix our “spending” problem and quit worrying about blaming who is paying how much – we cannot sustain a 3.8 trillion budget that is growing.

As time has gone by, I have begun to rethink the wisdom of not allowing the South to secede in the first place. By now, the US would still be a superpower while the South would inevitably sunk into economic irrelevancy and probably have been the subject of rebellion from its large slave population. But the US wouldn’t have the continued economic or emotional burden of dealing with its inbred half.

3: The state legislature’s passing of the drug test for welfare bill.

clem. I doubt it very much. Nice try though. I would expect that if you are looking at trends you might want to look no further than Michigan. They are set to join the rest of us and become right to work states. Democrats without the money stolen by unions will slowly die off and become display pieces in a museum.

The amount of ignorant racism still present this day in age is amazing. It’s obvious by the past election that we are becoming a BETTER country as a whole, and hopefully these lazy rednecks are dying off…OUR country has no room for their ignorance.
All who want to secede are enemies of the USA, and should be deported. PERIOD. We don’t need these DOMESTIC TERRORISTS lingering around any longer!! They’re only holding the rest of us back!! USA! USA! USA!!

It’s obvious that we as a people hate each other and it grows worse each day. Our country will at some point be as split physically as well as ideologically. The sooner the better I just hope it’s peaceful. I would hate to see our liberal/democratic people get slaughtered.
