PPP survey: 42% of Ga. Republicans would secede, Nathan Deal job approval at 37%

After declaring U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss “theoretically vulnerable” this week, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina has run out the rest of its Georgia poll, with these highlights:

– Apparently bruised by bitter campaigns over transportation (lost) and charter schools (won), Gov. Nathan Deal’s job approval rating stands at 37 percent among voters – one reason why Deal, moving into his crucial third year as governor, needs a smooth and productive legislative session in January.

The PPP survey declares Deal to be vulnerable if Democrats are able to muster the right candidate in 2014 – a very large “if.” Some hypothetical match-ups: U.S. Rep. John Barrow, 44/40; Kasim Reed (never happen), 47/40; State Sen. Jason Carter, 46/38.

– Likewise, the fiscal cliff debate may be taking its toll on U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, whose approval rating also stands at 37 percent. But he isn’t up for re-election until 2016.

– Former President Jimmy Carter approve/disapprove rating stands at 55/38. President Barack Obama is at 46 percent approval, matching his Georgia ballot showing in November.

– Chipper Jones should consider politics. The retired Atlanta Braves third-baseman’s job approve/disapprove rating is 57/11.

– Georgia fans outnumber Georgia Tech groupies, 40/17. Which pushes Attorney General Sam Olens’ unfortunate Tweet of last week into irrelevancy.

– 70 percent of those polled thought a new stadium home for the Atlanta Falcons was unnecessary.

– 42 percent of Georgia Republicans said they would be willing to secede from the United States because of President Barack Obama’s re-election. A like number say they wouldn’t. From PPP spokesman Tom Jensen: “I doubt that many Republicans would really secede if they had the choice- not that many people are signing the secession petitions- but their willingness to say they would is a measure of how unhappy they are over the president’s reelection.”

You neo-cons who are still complaining about the election results are nothing but pure comedy. Keep it up; I need a good laugh going into the weekend. And how ignorant do you have to be to continue to bring up the “socialist” argument, which has been debunked. I suspect someone will bring William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and Tony Rezko pretty soon.

Accept this: The GOP got their asses handed to them, yet they refuse to move forward.

Really? All you have to do is go to Congressional districts in Georgia and then pull SAT scores per HS and you will find on average the children of Democratic voters score way less on all standardized test then the children of Republican voters. Those are facts and can not be disputed.

Another poll stated that 49% of Republicans think Acorn stole the 2012 presidential election. Of course, Acorn no longer exists, so, clearly, Republicans (at least a sizable minority) aren’t too concerned about facts – just prejudices.

TD,

I am an Obama supporter… I am Black, have a Masters Degree (not from an HBCU or online school, which I am sure you will bring up to question my education, and even if my degrees were from those schools). I make over 100K a year, I am single with no children and I work every single day for what I have. It is miopic thinking such as your’s that cost Repubs the election. See the more you alienate people, the smaller the circle gets, and sooner or later those alienated outnumber those in the circle and become the majority…. Thus those in the circle slowly become the minority.

It is amazing how many folks in this nation enjoy taking care of people who are not willing to take responsibility for themselves. Show me in the constitution where taking money from a group of people and giving to another group. Ohhh, sorry you dont believe in the constitution.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong
You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away man’s initiative and independence.
You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.

These are great quotes and so true yesterday, today and tomorrow.

This country is receiving exactly what it deserves when the mentality of the people of the country elects leaders like Obama.

“All you guys are right wing-nuts” you are so correct your response is worth 2 cents.

Let me see if I have this correct. Since Obama won re election (which the incubamnt President usually does) but republicans still:
30 governors are Republican
30 State Legislatures are controlled by Republicans
In 6 other states, Republicans control at least one chamber in the legislative branch
and the voters put Republicans back in charge of the US HOR’s.

This all means that Republicans got their asses kicked and should roll over and allow Obama to do whatever he pleases? Is this what you think? If so then you are in for a big disappointment.

You could have saved the “I would have voted for “Herman Cain in a heartbeat” mess. Another thing you might want to know about Black folks is the concept of “everybody who is you color ain’t necessarily your kind”. It was true in the days of slavery and holds true today. See Herman Cain.

You can try to hide behind your racism all you want, but the light shines brightly on it still. So some of you patriotic Americans in Red States are so mad that a Kenyan, Muslim, socialist black man got elected President of the USA for a second time that you want to demonstrate your patriotism by seceding from the United States of American? Go ahead. Make our day.

But be careful what you wish for. Here’s how it could go down, and it might be so pretty for you after all is said and done.

We would get the West Coast, all of the Northeast and the upper Midwest.

You would get Texas, Oklahoma and all the former slave states.

We would keep Hawaii too, the foreign country with warm water and beautiful beaches where Barack Hussein Obama was born without a birth certificate.

You can have Alaska and stare at Russia from your front porches.

To be fair, we may have to split up some states.

You get North Florida. We get South Florida. After all, what would you want with all those gay people in South Beach and old Jews in Miami?

We get North Virginia. You get South Virginia. To be fair, we’ll let you keep the University of Virginia. Go Cavaliers! Plus you need at least one place to educate some leaders who believe in science.

But Austin, Atlanta and New Orleans get to be their own Blue city/states, sort of like West Berlin before the Wall came down. We’ll even pay to move the capital of Texas from Austin to W’s hometown of Midland, where as one native recently put it, “There used to be one Democrat in town, but I think she died”.

We might even merge with Canada. That way we get single-payer healthcare, solvent banks, the Royal Canadian Mounties, and Ryan Gosling (eat your hearts our Red-nation women).

To sum up briefly:

We get Bruce Springsteen, Jay Z and Beyonce. You get Ted Nugent and Meatloaf.

Plus Willie Nelson gets to park his bus anywhere he likes in the Blue America.

We get Elizabeth Warren. You get Todd Aiken. (Hey, we’ll even keep Chris Christie. He’s too large to move, anyway.)

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get the New York Philharmonic. You get the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

We get Oprah. You get Paula Deen.

And Blue America will have an easy repatriation policy for the ancestors of slaves still stuck in the former Confederate states, as well as a path to citizenship for undocumented workers and their children from both Red and Blue America who have worked hard/studied hard and put down roots. We’ll even have a 21st century version of “40 acres and a mule” with education, job training and work at a fair wage for those who need it. (But here’s a warning: good luck getting your crops picked, your kids asses wiped, and your pools cleaned without a bunch of low-paid undocumented workers.)

Any Red-nation NBA team that wants to gets to move to a Blue state city without its own team. Hey, how about them World Champion Pittsburgh Thunder?

And the New York Jets will send you back Tim Tebow for a player to be named later.

We get 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs.

You get backwoods crystal meth labs.

We get Intel, Microsoft and Apple. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole’ Miss.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to pay your fair share for once.

Speaking of all those federal taxes you love to hate. Most of it comes from us and goes to you. So stop talking nonsense about how “It’s our money, not the government’s money”. Of the 19 states that send more money to Washington than they get back in benefits, 14 are Blue. And of 31 states that get more money back from the Feds than they pay in taxes, 23 are Red. It’s not your money. It’s our f**cking money. So from here on out, you can pay for your own damn roads and bridges.

Which state do you think has the lowest divorce rate? It’s Taxachusetts, the first state to recognize gay marriage. Think that’s some aberration? How about this? 9 of the 10 lowest divorce rates are in the Blue states. And where are the highest divorce rates? 10 of the top 10 are Red.

But gay people getting married is going to ruin the family for you? Seems like you’re ruining it pretty well on your own.

So we get a bunch of happy families, straight and gay. You get a bunch of single moms and deadbeat dads.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines (you can serve Texas wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley, and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92 percent of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, and Bob Jones University.

So, as we said at the start. You want to secede? Go ahead. Make our Day. But be careful what you wish for. You might not be so happy if you actually got it. If you ask nicely, we might even take you back.

Calliope, this is a serious question.

In your statement you were letting us know you were an educated working black man. My question to you is “Did you vote for Obama because he is black or did you vote for Obama because of his accouplishments in life and as the president and leader of our country for the past four years?”

If you are like the vast majority of the black community who voted for Obama because HE IS BLACK are you any different then those people who did not vote for him because he is black?

This country will never begin to heal our differences until the people give up the labels and look for common ground. I am sure you and I have many common desires. A desire to live in safety, a desire to be compensated for our effort, a desire to worship freely. When you look at us we are not that different.

We are not Africa-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latin-Americans we are all AMERICANS with the same goals and desires.

My differences with Obama and the Left is not the color of their skin it is the differences of our beliefs. I embrace capitalism and I will until someone shows me a better economic system. I know the next word I will hear is about the greed.

I have one question for any of you, “Show me one area of life without greed”. Greed and fear are the two basic emotions driving every decision human beings make.

The biggest difference between the left and the right is the left thinks there is ONE economic pie (Government) and you have to divide the one pie among everyone. I believe anyone can build their own pie and then share their pie with others if they choose. Let’s teach the 47% how to build their own pies.
