After declaring U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss “theoretically vulnerable” this week, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina has run out the rest of its Georgia poll, with these highlights:
– Apparently bruised by bitter campaigns over transportation (lost) and charter schools (won), Gov. Nathan Deal’s job approval rating stands at 37 percent among voters – one reason why Deal, moving into his crucial third year as governor, needs a smooth and productive legislative session in January.
The PPP survey declares Deal to be vulnerable if Democrats are able to muster the right candidate in 2014 – a very large “if.” Some hypothetical match-ups: U.S. Rep. John Barrow, 44/40; Kasim Reed (never happen), 47/40; State Sen. Jason Carter, 46/38.
– Likewise, the fiscal cliff debate may be taking its toll on U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, whose approval rating also stands at 37 percent. But he isn’t up for re-election until 2016.
– Former President Jimmy Carter approve/disapprove rating stands at 55/38. President Barack Obama is at 46 percent approval, matching his Georgia ballot showing in November.
– Chipper Jones should consider politics. The retired Atlanta Braves third-baseman’s job approve/disapprove rating is 57/11.
– Georgia fans outnumber Georgia Tech groupies, 40/17. Which pushes Attorney General Sam Olens’ unfortunate Tweet of last week into irrelevancy.
– 70 percent of those polled thought a new stadium home for the Atlanta Falcons was unnecessary.
– 42 percent of Georgia Republicans said they would be willing to secede from the United States because of President Barack Obama’s re-election. A like number say they wouldn’t. From PPP spokesman Tom Jensen: “I doubt that many Republicans would really secede if they had the choice- not that many people are signing the secession petitions- but their willingness to say they would is a measure of how unhappy they are over the president’s reelection.”

You whiny hick conservative/Republican/Libertarians are irrelevant. You’re not going to secede (although the rest of us would like you to get gone from the US). You’re not going to revolt. You’re not going to move. You’re not going to do anything except sit right there and complain. The extent of your power is sitting on your rear end and typing away on a computer. President Obama will make the decisions for you from here on out whether you like it or not. Because that’s the way Americans want it. They want you sitting in your basement stewing in isolation while the adults make take care of things. Your ideas are not important. The smart people will take it from here.

Thanks for proving my point. Bush II more than DOUBLED the national debt –not to mention, Bush’s policies bled over well into Obama’s years. Bush I increased the national debt by 56%, and Reagan TRIPLED the national debt. Clinton had a SURPLUS! You’re probably not too familiar with that term, being a Republcan’t and all. The national debt under Obama has been the slowest spending per GDP in history…not to mention, given the circumstances, increasing the national debt by 40% (yes, that’s what it is), is pretty good. Keep trying, though guys…this is fun!!
Also, let me let you in on a little secret Faux Noise probably didn’t tell you…the debt was raised so much since 2008 because of the greatest recession since the Great Depression…regardless, of who was in office, massive government spending would have ensued. Cleaning up the mess the Republican’ts left us with hasn’t been cheap, but we’re working it out.

Blue states are the makers. Red states are the takers. http://taxfoundation.org/article/states-vary-widely-number-tax-filers-no-income-tax-liability
Those numbers mean nothing by themselves. What is the demographic breakdown of the nonpayers vs payers? The states in the article are also the highest states with African American and Hispanic populations.

Where is this bogus information coming from that Red states are moochers of Blue states? Must be some left wing numbers but it is totally bogus.
Both your articles do not mention what those states PAY INTO the federal kitty per capita or per GDP in that state (which I think is a better barometer).
It is the difference between what a state takes in vs. what it sends to Washington that makes it a “moocher” state.
For FY 2007 (the latest tabled date I could find)
The top 10 contributor states per capita were:
(Color based on Presidential Election outcome in 2008 and 2012)
DE (Blue)
MN (Blue)
NJ (Blue)
CT (Blue)
NY (Blue)
IL (Blue)
NE (Red)
RI (Blue)
TX (Red)
CO (Blue)
Georgia IS a net contributor and ranks 18th in all states but is 2nd to lowest in net contributor status.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_taxation_and_spending_by_state
A better graphic can be found here which uses net return on GDP as the measuring stick and also shows dollars accumulated between 1990 and 2009.
http://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2011/08/americas-fiscal-union
Note that the top states are:
(fairly close to the above list)
DE
MN
NJ
IL
CT
NY
OH
MI
NE
MA

I understand those facts but I also know that African American are disproportionally are a higher % of the poor and disproportionally receive a higher % of total government benefits then their % of the population. With saying this then when there are more African Americans living in the south then any other region of the country then they would be less likely to be paying taxes as well and skew the state numbers.
Just the facts:
“African Americans Benefit Disproportionately from the Food Stamp Program
One in three food stamp households is headed by an African American. More than a third of food stamp benefits — over $10 billion per year — are issued to African-Americans. (According to Census data, African Americans make up about 12 percent of the U.S. population.) ”

OK. Who is posting themselves as Robert E. Lee on this blog? I would kindly ask you, sir, to honor his memory by NOT turning this into a North vs. South issue. General Lee chastised one of his students, while teaching at Washington College in Virginia, when the student made derogatory comments about General Grant in 1868. Robert E. Lee was a man of honor and integrity. He graduated from West Point ( with NO demerits), oversaw the construction of Fortress Monroe with the Army Corp in 1832 and was a steadfast military professional throughout his career. His decision to command the Army of Northern Virginia was based on his devotion to Virginia, nothing related to the politics surrounding the civil war and NOT an advocate of the practice of slavery. I am a son of the South, with both Virginia and Georgia roots. Please be consiterate or choose a new moniker .

Nice try. $10 Billion is a drop in the bucket compared to what the RED states require to maintain. Face it man, you’re wrong, any way you slice it. Blaming African Americans is a tired game that you all have been losing for years. The data just simply doesn’t support it. The self-described “progressive humanist” says: “The smart people will take it from here.”
This coming from the poster who is so insecure that they have to remind people in almost every column that they had a Ph.D. And she proceeds to put other people down for not being intelligent. Lady, you have a serious psychological problem. Maybe it’s because you lead a Godless life. Hopefully someday you’ll fill the vacuum you obviously have. But in the meantime, I pray my son doesn’t have you as his professor in college in a few years.
