Nathan Deal on Saxby Chambliss’ re-elect bid: ‘It’s way too early to be picking winners and losers’

It is possible to call a man friend and still leave him dangling.

My AJC colleague Daniel Malloy in Washington just finished a telephone conversation with Gov. Nathan Deal that touched on the topic of U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss and his 2014 re-election bid. It went something like this:

Malloy: “There is a lot of talk going around the state about Saxby Chambliss getting a Republican primary challenge. Would you support him if he does?”

Deal: “It’s way too early to be picking winners and losers and people that you’re going to support and not support. He’s a friend of mine. I served with him in the U.S. House and he will continue to be a friend of mine.”

Sounds like a definite maybe.

On a similar note, Public Policy Polling of North Carolina was in the field over the weekend with a Georgia poll focused on Chambliss. We haven’t seen the results yet, but PPP just tweeted this:

The only Republican who gets anywhere close to Saxby Chambliss in a one on one primary at this point? Herman Cain.

Cain, of course, says he’s not interested.

First of all nobody has told SHADY deal what to say…

Nuff said.

My shellacking forecast.

Shady crooked deal….5 of 5 shellacking’s and a Ethics charge.

Saxby 4 out of 5 shellacking’s. And a free pizza.

Over all a GA. GOP (crooked slime balls) shellacking. Free Pizza!

Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

God help us if Cain is elected. Georgia has become a backward state, worse than Mississippi and Alabama. We have a true statesman as a Senator but we criticize him because he is not right wing enough. And why should we care if our crook of a governor endorses Chambliss or not? Our state is becoming a laughingstock. No wonder we are the most corrupt state in the country.

Saxby will need to pony up a “Deal” for Nathan.

And precisely what has deal done to make him not feel any heat in 2014?

Is being a failure while kissing up to the nuttiest of conserrrrrvatives now all that is required to be considered a ‘leader’ in our State?

What a crazy cast of characters. Don’t we have any reasonable alternatives?

I’m just wondering which one is more insulted, chambliss because he’s put in the same class as cain, or cain because he’s considered no better than chambliss.
