On Sam Olens and the power of Twitter — plus some angry Tech fans

Attorney General Sam Olens has just been given an education in the power of social media and angry Georgia Tech fans. This morning, the following was sent out from his Twitter account:

“I just saw a billboard congratulating Tech ACC Coastal football champs! Miami won it, Tech is 6-6, how embarrassing.”

The Yellow Jacket response was apparently swift and sharp. The above Tweet no longer exists. But this one does:

sam2

Olens, by the way, is an Emory University law school grad who did not attend the University of Georgia. Which means no blood feud was involved.

Stay classy, Mr. Olens. You are a disgrace to our state and that is saying a lot.

Along the same line, The mayor of Alpharetta, David Belle Isle, posted a picture on his facebook page last week of “Harry the Bulldog” holding a “Buzz” toy by a hang man’s noose. Very tacky indeed. You would think that politicians would realize that even if Tech has a bad year in football tech fans can still vote.

Sam Olens was driving on the Interstate when he did his Tweet….this is a crime in Georgia….will Sam Olens now do the right thing and surrender himself at the Fulton County Jail? I won’t hold my breath but I will remember him at the voting booth in 2 years….

@TechNador maybe they were hoping you would vote based on their political stance, not their sports comments. #getoverit

His apology was one of those where he apologizes “if” he offended – not for the spirit of his statement. In other words, he’s not taking it back, he just wishes he hadn’t been called out on it.

What kind of apology is one that begins … “if I offended anybody ….”

Why not just say “I apologize”? Why make the other person(s) at fault for your erorr or mis-judgement?

I am so tired of hearing this non-apology.

Yes, it would have been illegal if he had been driving, but don’t you folks know that the imperial AG has a paid driver on his staff ? I seriously doubt that he was driving himself. It frees him up to read billboards on the way to and from his many speaking engagements all over the state in preparation for his next run for higher office. Does any state official, including the Gov, travel more than Olens ?

GT goes out of its way to put academics first and do things the right way. And is bad in football because of it. You do realize Sam, that GT can’t recruit the Issah Crowells of the world because they would flunk out instantly do you not? You’d think someone associated with Emory would be smarter than this. You’re a sad man Sam.

ohio state football is 7-11-2 overall against the SEC, and that’s playing the mediocre teams like Vandy. In bowl games, against the SEC elite. ohio state is 0-9. How embarrassing! big 10 big 12, whatever, they are minuscule against the SEC.

I agree with Mr. Olen’s first tweet. Ga Tech has embarrassed the state of Georgia and the AC. And now granted a waiver to continue playing after a 6-7 record this weekend? Did I see where Ga Tech is being demoted to Div II ? You were right the first time Mr. Olens.

When will Ga Tech fans realize that they are the butt of almost every college football joke? ESPN says that over 80% of America thinks it’s wrong that Ga Tech got a waiver to play any further after this weekend. 6-7.

Yes we nerds are sensitive.
Also realize we’re damn smart.
Because without us you would not be able to waste hours and hours on the internet, because it would not exist.
Neither would you have a PC, or mouse, or monitor or printer or smart phone, or the car you drive, or gasoline to run it with or a highway to drive on or your precious guns and bullets or pop-top cans for Coke and beer or toilets. My g0d, no toilets!
Need I go on?
So try doing without us sensitive nerds and all the things we are responsible for and see how that works for ya.
K?

Sam Olens is a political suck-up/hack if there has ever been one. The tweeting in traffic aside, he has repeatedly proven himself to be a hyper-partisan as A.G. How can one be trusted to seek and administer justice as A.G. when all he does is preach the establishment GOP’s BS?

I, for one, would like to congratulate Tech on its tremendous accomplishment — good luck in Charlotte, guys! (Good seats still available — $4.00 each!)

And I think the billboard should be replaced after the bowl game (thanks for that waiver, NCAA!) with a new one:
