Newt Gingrich on Mitt Romney and Barack Obama’s gifts: ‘Why didn’t you outbid him?’

Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich had a wicked response Friday to Mitt Romney’s contention that President Barack Obama had outbid him among blacks, Hispanics and young people in the race for the White House:

Said Gingrich:

“I’m very disappointed with Governor Romney’s analysis, which I believe is insulting and profoundly wrong. First of all, we didn’t lose Asian-Americans because they got any gifts. He did worse with Asian-Americans than he did with Latinos. This is the hardest-working and most successful ethnic group in America. They ain’t into gifts. Second, it’s an insult to all Americans. It reduces us to economic entities. You have no passion, no idealism, no dreams, no philosophy. If it had been that simple, my question would be, why didn’t you outbid him?

“He had enough billionaire supporters, if buying the electorate was the key, he could have got all his Super PAC friends together and said, don’t buy ads, give gifts. Be like the northwest Indians who have gift-giving ceremonies. We could have gone town-by-town and said, ‘Come here, let me give you gifts. Here are Republican gifts.’ An elephant coming in with gifts on it.”

Did Newt say they had to be bought at Tiffany’s?

I wish Newt would crawl back under his rock – he is the poster child for the dysfunctional Republican Party.

Still can’t believe he won the Georgia primary…

@Michael:

After living through 13 years of GA politics, I am in no way surprised Newt won the primary.
That said, Newt has a point:

Romney’s whining is a perfect example of why he lost.
He is out of touch and clueless about what kind of people make up America’s middle class.

In Romney’s world, the middle class is composed entirely of white, hard-working people who are tired of giving their hard-earned dollars to non-white moochers.

@ Look:

Very true. However, most of the party leadership is the same. Newt putting down Mitt?!? Really?!?

In this one blurb alone, Newt mentions Asian – Americans and says “This is the hardest-working and most successful ethnic group in America.” In the very next sentence he says it is an insult to reduce ethnic groups to economic entities.

Gag me.

How flattering! Burn on you, every other ethnic group in America.

Romney is in denial. He doesn’t get it. Newt criticizing Romney is even worse. If Newt had won the Republican Primary, the results of the Presidential Election would have been the same except the race would have been called at 9 PM EST. Neither stood a rats behind chance of beating President Obama!!!

Newt ridicules Mitt with a reference to the Indians in the Northwest? Comparing their cultural traditions to his imbecilic metaphor about how Mitt doesn’t get it?

Too bad Newt wasn’t on the ticket with Mitt. The crowds would have loved his elephant-size ego and crazy claims about how he helped Clinton balance the budget. Most of all, we could have continued to read about his marital disasters and jewelry shopping expeditions. Ryan was a scary, obsessive, upstart who was determined to do away with everything that has worked, but Newt would have bragged about every good thing, Democrat or Republican, that happened during his House/Speaker tenure. Of course, the election result would have been the same.

more simply, Mitt, like McCain, wasn’t conservative ENOUGH! Mitt’s message was one of prosperity and was the PRO American choice. Instead the takers won, and we ALL SUFFER MORE. The WORST is YET to COME. Enjoy the Greatest Depression coming your way sooner than you had planned for…I suggest you find Dr. Ron Paul’s farewell speech to the US House this week and watch it several times…

“the Greatest Depression coming your way sooner” My retirement account was -2.2% under Bush and +12% under Obama – those are facts, not retorhic. I will take that kind of depression anytime.

vomitt is still in denial about being thumped by obama. Dude you lost, so did McCain and he got over it.

How did I lose to this foreign, dog eating, black man? :)

The scriptures clearly said that I would win, God is on my side. Hell, Billy Graham anointed me. :)

Vomitt is simply a dickhead who thinks because he achieved some success in business that he is a politician.

The guy can’t open his pie hole without offending someone, which should be a very simple task for any adult.

Being good at making money does not make you a good leader.

He and McCain can console each other. :)

With much regret, this is the first time, I ran into such gathering of serious minded peoples’ discussion park. Magnetic effect of well respected major paper representing the South. Simultaneously a pitfall of cloud age. Unless otherwise for twitter and/or Facebook, chances of getting to know mainstay idea of particular group of demographic segments.

In spite of humongous sums of election money was spent, I wonder to what extent and degree of demographic analyses GOP campaign offices/supporters looked into this aspect. (omission).

From North-South Corridor of the Pacific West, elsewhere and the homegrown GOP Dixieland, SUNBELT, the New South ought to be thoroughly tackled for what is BETTER AMERICA* in the coming four years. *Highly probable when you have suitable reassessed regional developmental planning and right partners in the US and abroad.

Long live the AJC.

With warmest regards,

On another topic: upon learning that GA won’t be following the requirement of providing insurance exchanges and all the money that decision will keep out of GA, one is reminded of the words of Ulysses Everett McGill “just dumber than a bag of hammers! “

One thing i’m half asian, where i see a difference with alot of asian folks is the fact many of them come from countries that didn’t have any help (Mom was korean war kid), so not sure if their any harder working just the times i guess. One other thing, is a chinese friend of mine; likes nationalized healthcare etc…. because their used to socialism (not being offensive), but its just the truth

Newt has been beat by Tea Party Republican TN Rep/DR. Des Jarlais[his voters are fine moral Southern Baptists who will vote for anything with R behind his name, They live around Jasper, TN. His divorce proceedings show he had his ex wife have two abortions, he was having affairs with his patients and drug representative, but he has not lost medical license yet,?? He pretended to be against abortion and worked with Ryan/Atkins/others but it is ok if he does it personally. .He is another Republican hypocrite like Newt who was impeaching P. Clinton while he was having a full fledge affair with his current wife while still married. Republicans preach to others, but we probably need to check all of them. Politicians are takers of taxpayer money for their healthcare, pensions, gym, medical faciliy at their workplace, travel, office allowances, almost $200,000 for 109 days of work in last year. They are temporary employees since they have to be re-elected. Wealthy /Rommey are welfare takers, they think they are entitled to have Defense protect their corporations/shipments all over the world but neither them or their corporations pay much tax. They also use embassy/commerce . Most middle-class cannot afford to travel.
