A White House petition to allow Georgia’s peaceful withdrawal from Union

We’ve entered the period for thoughtful responses to last week’s woodshedding of the Republican party in the presidential sweepstakes.

In the take-my-ball-and-go-home category, we have the news that 20 petitions have been lodged with the White House website, seeking the peaceful withdrawal of certain states from the Union. Georgia, of course, is among them.

Most of them contain the same language:

As the founding fathers of the United States of America made clear in the Declaration of Independence in 1776:

“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

“…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government…”

The Georgia petition, filed Saturday, currently has 4,067 “signatures.” According to the rules of the “We the People” portion of the White House web site, a petition requires 25,000 signatures to elicit a formal presidential response. For instance, this is how the White House came to release its famous beer recipe.

So how might the White House properly respond to these new secessionists should they get to 25,000? The answer is very clear: Free tickets to Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” which opens Friday at a theater near you:

Seriously, it’s the toleration of this kind of foolishness that got the GOP in trouble. And if Republicans are sincere about learning from past mistakes, this seems like a good place – an easy place – to start.

It’s free speech, it’s legal to do, so why be so critical. If the libs were doing this, it would be heralded as a great statement of freedom. Always critical of the right, the press (read: Galloway) is so eager to criticize those who disagree. Give them credit for standing up for what they believe, even if you think it is misguided.

For the Georgians, who want to withdraw from the union, why not save a lot of paperwork and just book a one way flight out of the United States of America to what ever country you would enjoy being a citizen of.. I’m sure you all will not be missed, because more than likely the only thing you are spreading in the United States is ignorance and hate. I guess it’s sad to wake and realized that the ball is no longer in your court and you are not in charge of the game. This country has changed and the “Good Ole Boys” are no longer the majority in charge and their money can not buy as much as they thought it could.

Is this foolishness? Actually, folks in the rural counties will never be able to outvote the hoards of “takers” in the cities. And we cannot hope to earn enough money to support them and take care of our own families as well.

I welcome it. I would stay for sure. Listen Camille, you are spouting off but yes that’s exactly what we are tired of. All of those things you mention are needless, cost billions of dollars and create nothing but regulations. As for government money, where do you think the government gets their money? FROM THE STATES. So its not like we would not survive. As for jobs, honey they would not be leaving here the would be flooding here. Low tax, no unions, people that want to work. No social programs, no moochers. You know nothing about business that’s for sure. Hospital, bet we could have one of the best because all the doctors would be here too.

The trend in Georgia has been to “annex” and create your own City (Milton, etc.). Annexation is a greater threat to the quality of life for many Georgians. If the “annex” trend continues over the next 10 years Georgia will have a “segregated” society. Annexation is the first step in seceding from the Union.

How could Georgia ever function without the funds/services provided by the Federal Government? The state receives way more in benefits than it contributes to the National Economy.

The 4000+ people that signed the petition, should be excorted to the border of their choice, and given the heave-ho.

A lot of you seem to choose your “team” in this “presidential sweepstakes” like you would choose a football team to root for. You act like there is no real consequence for choosing poorly. You underestimate the power of the oval office, and we as a nation have selected a president based on color and emotion rather than substance. maybe, just maybe that is why people would be willing to secede. maybe, just maybe….it’s because our elections are no longer decided by the nation, but largely are determined by New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Remember when you look at the current president that overwhelmingly throughout the electoral map, we the people chose a different president, but feel like our voice was not heard because when you carry the aforementioned cities, you carry those states.

Washington DC will deny the petition. The petioners decide to organize militia and force the issue. At this point, the situation would be similar to that of former USSR countries which the US supported btw. Ironic. At the same time, the US secessionist will have no choice but to fight an “imperalist” army with unconventional tactics. When this happens in other places, here we call them guerrilla or even terrorist. More irony. Maybe the French can help out the secssionist like they did in 1776. Lets, keep going. The secessionist win. Let’s say its an independent south now. The religious right that is very entrenched in the south now has the power. It’s what the “true conservatives” want. So blue laws go into full effect. No drinking, ban on books that are blasphemous, no divorced allowed, tell women what they can and cannot do, etc…just like, you guessed it. I signed all 20 peaceful States secession petitions. I truly believe that we would be better off as a group of allied countries than one United States. I think we are too divided to have Washington DC making decisions for 350 million people in Georgia, Texas, Alaska etc. As someone in Texas said this week, ”why should Texas and Vermont live under the same government?” Secede again! I have nothing in common with people in the Northeast and don’t appreciate them representing me. Herman Cain or Newt Gingrich for President of the Free State of GA or the New Confederacy.
