White voter registration in Ga. dips below 60 percent

For the first time, white voters in Georgia will make up less than 60 percent of all “active” registered voters in the state, according to statistics just released by Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

White voter registration, which stood at 63 percent in 2008, has dropped to 59 percent of the 5.3 million signed up to cast ballots in this year’s presidential contest. African-American registration stands at 30 percent, just as it did in 2008.

The difference comes from the growing pool of voters who decline to identify themselves by race, or describe themselves as something other than white, black, Asian-Pacific, Hispanic-Latino, or Native American. That group grew from 3.6 percent in 2008 to 8 percent today.

The decline of the white vote in Georgia has been slow but steady. In January 2001, whites made up 72 percent of registered voters; in January 2007, they were 67 percent. Blacks in 2001 made up 26 percent of the electorate, and 27 percent in 2007.

As a whole, the number of registered voters is up 3 percent over 2008, when it stood at 5,198,971 . Here’s a demographic breakdown of the Georgia voters eligible to pick the next president, vote on a proposed constitutional amendment on charter schools, and elect two members of the Public Service Commission next Tuesday:

– Black female: 946,510

– Black male: 658,870

Combined black vote: 1,605,380 (30 percent of registered vote) (30 percent in October 2008)

– White female: 1,683,715

– White male: 1,484,820

Combined white vote: 3,168,535 (59 percent) (63 percent in 2008)

– Asia-Pacific female: 37,840

– Asia-Pacific male: 34,504

Combined Asia-Pacific vote: 72,344 (1.3 percent)

– Hispanic-Latino female: 49,934

– Hispanic-Latino male: 41,786

Combined Hispanic-Latino vote: 91,720 (1.7 percent) (1.4 percent in 2008)

– Native American female: 1,056

– Native American male: 841

Combined Native American vote: 1,897 (.03 percent)

Other voters: 413,137 (8 percent) (3.6 percent in 2008)

Total: 5,353,013 (up 3 percent over 2008)

JB – you are correct. This white family is long gone (after 41 years!) as soon as the final sale papers have been settled and the money changes hands. It hurts but the demographics and politics have ruined this state and there ain’t no hope for the future. In 10 years Georgia will be among the Arkansas-Mississippi “also-rans.”

The Dems class warfare strategy will continue to pay off. As more and more people line up at the trough, and vote for those who provide more feed, the Dems are a lock winner, not just in Georgia, but nationwide. I predicted this years ago. The tipping point has been reached. The demographics are a snowball rolling downhill, gaining mass and velocity.

GA welcomes all those hard working folks that contribute to the states economy, not those that are looking for as many services as possible at taxpayers expense, or those that never get off welfare or unemplyment payments. btw, GA will soon be sending out debit cards instead of unempluyment checks to cut down on the expense of putting money in too many folks hands. Maybe I should just quit working or get let go too, and start getting my share.

White Female,

Though it may break your heart, Republicans don’t wake up in the morning thinking about your reproductive organs. Can you name a single individual who has been denied oral contraceptives or abortions? Do you see any major candidate even campaigning on either of these issues? The answer is “no you don’t”.

It speaks volumes that OCs and abortions are front-and-center in your mind. Birth control pills are available at Wal-Mart for $9, and if you use them reliably you won’t have to end the life of an unborn child to avoid inconvenience to you.

For once in your life, use your gray matter–rather than your genitalia–to make decisions about whom is the better candidate.

You attempt to demean women when you bring up “reproductive organs” as the element of greatest importance. It may surprise you, but many women are concerned about the real double-digit unemployment rate in this country and the mountainous debt that will soon erode or eliminate social programs on which many people rely.

Thankfully, most women think using the facilities above their neck rather than below their waist. But there are exceptions and yours is duly noted.

I’m a worried republican female from GA & I will not be voting republican this year. I’m very concerned that our candidate has not given clear concise details of any of his policies, budget, etc. I do not feel anyone should be dictating a woman’s reproductive rights. I do however, agree that we should have more equal acces to health care (I support OBAMACARE). I am saddened that our party does not have a true candidate in this election.

Worried “Republican”:

Nice try, but try your masquerade on Halloween.

Mr. Obama has no economic plan for the next 4 years and one cannot be specific about a plan that he does not have. Governor Romney wants to encourage business growth by lowering the breakeven point for all businesses. It’s a simple but compelling concept and history shows that it works.

And as the majority of Americans know, Obamacare makes healthcare more expensive thereby reducing access and quality.

Mr. Obama deserves to be fired for one simple reason: poor job performance.

Once he opens his mouth, it’s like you have to grace yourself and keep your fingers crossed hoping he doesn’t embarrass the GOP any more than he already has. He lost my grandfathers (a disabled vet who make ends met off govt assistance) vote with the 47% comment and then came with the binder full of woman’s statement. Not to mention the fact that he wants to control our bodies and has yet to give one detail of his 5 star plan that we are supposed to believe in just off his word. And he’s against FEMA which i can’t understand! The GOP must do better with their selections! Ryan as President if something happens to Mittbis an even scarier thought. Romney has said he is pro-life, Paul Ryan is pro-life to the extreme. Paul Broun of GA. was the Father of bill HR212 which could virtually do away with some birth control, its a Personhood bill that even backward Mississippi voted against. VP pick Paul Ryan co-signed this extreme bill along with 63 other Republican extremist in congress, Westmoreland, Kingston, just some on that list. This 112th Republican Controlled Congress has done nothing but try to pass bills taking Women’s rights away for the last two years. Anyone thinking differently must have been living under a Rock these last two years. Yes, Women would like nothing better than to be able to think of Jobs, the economy, their families, their health-care but when we have clueless Neanderthal Men trying to tell us what we can and can not do with our own personal business, and our Health-care, then they’ve gone too far and their going to hear about it from all the Women in this Country. Just who do they think they are? Those of us who have been paying attention, know exactly what these Extremist have been up to and we are going to make sure everyone of these Extremist will be voted out of office, if not this year then at the next election. These types of Politicians are not fit for dog catcher let alone Public Office!

It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we’ll all be dead and gone before it’s paid off. It makes no sense at all.”

The U.S. is currently running a $1.4 trillion annual deficit, and already has an indebtedness exceeding $16 trillion. Do you want to continue to add more debt for your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to suffer, or do you want to try to bring the deficits under control and begin to pay down the national debt?

The following is most of the transcript with a source link at the end:

The topic under discussion was the role of the federal government, and which functions Washington keeps.

“FEMA is about to run out of money, and there are some people who say do it on a case-by-case basis and some people who say, you know, maybe we’re learning a lesson here that the states should take on more of this role,” Mr. King said. “How do you deal with something like that?”

Romney’s response: “Absolutely. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better.
“Instead of thinking in the federal budget, what we should cut – we should ask ourselves the opposite question,” Romney continued. “What should we keep? We should take all of what we’re doing at the federal level and say, what are the things we’re doing that we don’t have to do? And those things we’ve got to stop doing, because we’re borrowing $1.6 trillion more this year than we’re taking in. We cannot …”

King interjected: “Including disaster relief, though?”

Romney replied: “We cannot – we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we’ll all be dead and gone before it’s paid off. It makes no sense at all.”

Smart Republicans realize they need to change their ways. Sadly, they are kept in check by the more extreme elements of their party.

Georgia use to be a place that welcomed hard working people, that is what drew people to the state. Now folks want to leave because they believe those that don’t look like them just want to live off of others. What a sad and angry worldview that must be. Fortunately most people do not want to live with that much darkness in their hearts.

I’ve been working hard on that very issue. I can recall, and it hasn’t been all that long ago, when Democrats ruled the roost…even after the Southern Strategy was initiated by an extremist Republican Party interested only in winning elections Nationally and didn’t give a damn what kind of decisive hatred they had to use to do it. They knew that bigotry still existed, in the South especially, and could be used to their benefit. The fact that whoever posted that ‘in play’ thing seems to think that Democrats are only people of color – minorities as it were – and what I believe you’re afraid of is that when these ‘minorities’ become ‘majorities’ they’ll treat the new, white, minority the same way that they’ve been treated’ all their lives. Sadly, perhaps you’re right. Those that have practiced bigotry all these years may well have screwed things up so badly that ‘they’ just might have a hard time getting over it, but the rest of us will try to help it along…but you must come to accept the fact that this country must derive its strength from the diversity of our population. So get over it folks, we’re all in this together whether you like it or not. And as for the rightwing Republicans, they’d better move back to the center cause the Country is moving that way regardless of what you want.

As a white female, I’m throwing my “snaps” in for RGB’s response to White Female too. With the economy as it currently stands, it is mind blowing to me that anyone’s top priority is access to birth control and abortions (reproductive rights)… or ANY social issue for that matter. Quite frankly, I don’t really care what anyone else does with their body and their free time, and as such, I will not let those “issues” dictate my vote. I’m more concerned with the fact that my once incredibly successful employer (pre-2008) has had to downsize by two-thirds in the past four years (and is on the verge of shuttering its doors altogether) due to new regulations and the deteriorating state of the economy. I’m concerned for my college-educated friends that have been jobless for 6 months to a year + (I can’t even imagine how difficult the hunt must be for those without a degree). For those fortunate enough to be offered jobs, they are making significantly less while doing much more work. BUT, you can’t complain because you just have to be grateful to have a job. Get your priorities straight ladies – there is a giant problem to facing our country, and it is not social in nature. Neither candidate is going to make reproductive rights/access their priority, and neither should you.

Look at his advisors- Bush war mongers, Go see what he was saying when he was hanging around with his friend Netanhayu, Israel, what he said during primary debates, previous speeches. Do not believe what politicians say just before elections when they are after your vote. check what they did in past, how many good paying manufacturing jobs has Rommey/wealthy created in USA??? Action speaks louder than words. They took tax cuts Republicans gave them. That is why they are buying your vote for Republicans. What has Republicans done for you.??? 41% of Georgians fit under Rommey’s 47% he scorned in his video. see c-span 5/14/12. Do you know what entitlements are?? medicare, tricare, medicaid, food lunches, food stamps etc Are you ready to take care of grandma/disabled when she cannot get in nursing home because Ryan’s budget cut medicaid, white guys who are unemployed/low paid workers, how will you get healthcare for your kids, medicaid pays for that. The presidential race is not so much a concern to me as both our House and Senate. These are the REAL IDIOTS of government for whom we consistently vote in office. This country’s electorate has “dumbed-down” itself; I’m not ashamed to admit that I am one who has been a sheep to a Congress that has its own agenda and greed in fleecing Americans. The electorate has the ability to change and strengthen this country, and it’s called Term Limits for elected officials. Everyone in Georgia could benefit from seeing the movie version of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical “South Pacific,” which was on Broadway 60 years ago. Rent it on Netflick or find it where you can. It is one of America’s great musicals. It will open hearts and minds as to the waste of racial prejudice in lives. Hammerstein, especially, had an egalitarian vision for our world, which he made come alive through his lyrics, and Rogers (whom I talked with as an 18 year old outside of a Broadway theatre in the summer of 1961) created beautiful, lasting music.

Changing minds and souls in such a positive, entertaining way were the invaluable gifts of these two American icons of musical theatre to our nation and to the world.

Hmmmm….so to read these posts, we’re to believe that abortion is the most important issue for women (which is odd…as I doubt the majority of women are hoping they’ll get abortions in the next four years); or FREE birth control products. Eh…not buying it. Career women want politicians who are not anti-success and openly hostile to the business community [let alone, they wonder about a President who said he considers the private sector to be the "enemy"]. And mothers have concerns about the kind of debt choked nation we’ve become, knowing their children will be slapped with the consequences of the reckless entitlement culture. I dunno, I’m not a woman. Maybe hatred of babies—and the need to kill ‘em (I’m being facetious, for liberals frame their arguments in fabricated “hate” context…so I’m seeing how they like having it tossed in their face….FYI, I’m actually a pro-choice Libertarian conservative; there’s legions of us) is the most important thing on the female mind. But if women want a country where they and their families can flourish and prosper—-then I’m guessing they have a rightful fear of the Party which is growing government into a totalitarian state. LIKEWISE, it’s the pinacle of hypocrisy for Leftards to complain about someone else making decisions about a woman’s body; while endorsing Obamacare…which puts the Federal government in that very role! The priority in this election…ultimately isn’t about abortion. It’s about whether or not Americans will have liberty in our future; or be controlled by an authoritarian Progressive State.

“The difference comes from the growing pool of voters who decline to identify themselves by race, or describe themselves as something other than white, black, Asian-Pacific, Hispanic-Latino, or Native American. That group grew from 3.6 percent in 2008 to 8 percent today.”

The percent of Black voters remained the same (30%) and Hispanic voters increased from 1.4% to 1.7%. So, it only stands to reason that some large percent of White voters simply checked “other” or nothing at all when they filled out their voter regisration cards.

Jim…as for people leaching off government, we all at one time or another rely on one another – including government – you’re probably right that there are plenty like you that for whatever reason don’t see it and, I guess, don’t want it. What’re you gonna do? Head for the hills and resort to a survivor mode? Fortunately there are way more that don’t agree with you and will keep working to make it work. Galbraith once said that ‘conservatism’ is merely the search for a better excuse for selfishness…apparently you’ve found it, or simply don’t need an excuse. Tell you what, just stop paying your taxes – taxes that are at an all-time low (certainly in your lifetime) as a percentage of income, by the way – maybe you’ll get away with it for a while even. See if that makes you happy, cause you come across right now as one miserable human being.

Racial hatred from all sides is getting worse because of Obama and his class warfare rhetoric. This is what Marxist use to pit brother against brother, the sign of a devil. Poor people get jobs from rich people and rich people need poor people for their economic investment but Marxism looks only at classes not the individual. Both democratic and republican parties will cause the next US civil war and its will be bloody, brother against brother over class identity.

You think Blacks want to be equal…you are sorely mistaken. You are a very scary race of people…lets make a little list:

You screw your daughters ( on a reg basis I’m told)
You aren’t happy unless you are starting a war somewhere on the Planet ( they have it, we want it, let’s invent a reason to go to war and take it)
You have actually enslaved other human beings throughout history (and you are damn proud of it! That one is major scary
You steal national elections….Remember Bush/Gore/hanging chads?
Your idea of a good time is sitting in a tree stand aiming to kill something..anything
Your idea of a great time was hanging your enslaved humans in trees…who the #@& are you people?
The list goes on and on and on
Current white world population : 1.376
Current black world population: 1.7
And in case you have never heard this, please let me enlighten you….A Black person’s greatest nightmare would be to have been born white..honest to God…That is a scary thought…gives me chills

Great topic, it got us taking part in a dicussion we need to have. We need to research what our Senators and house members in Washington have really been doing. Check on bills Broun, Kingston, Atkins, Bachman, Ryan budget 2011 where he cut 17 billion from veterans programs, medicare to voucher, cut medicaid etc., cut taxes for wealthy. All Republicans in Senate and House voted for Ryan budget 2011 and Rommey said he would sign it. check c-span for yourself for bills, hearings, votes. One of last about 260 Senator Mcconnel filibusters , which all most all republican senators including Saxby and Isakon voted to block was jobs bill for veterans, they also blocked bill to tax tax breaks from wealthy/corporations who hire overseas and give break to companies who hire here.. Rommey/wealthy are ones who have their money invested overseas and in Tax Havens like Cayman Islands, they take tax cuts Republicans give them and do not create jobs in USA. You can cut all taxes/regulation but get sworn affadavits they will hire in USA. Any person who is not stupid knows that Americans can not work for a $1.00 an hour, no heath insurance, air like China;;Republicans are already bitching about 26% low earners who are in Rommey’s 47% moochers[c-span-video 5/14/12] who have to get entitlements like foodstamps, healthcare etc from government for their families to survive. If you only have Republican to vote for, write in Mayor, veteran, Ron Paul, someone but do not mark Republican unless you like what they are doing to you if you are not a millionaire.
We also need to check out state and local officials, votes on this site, you can also google them by name, see what they have been doing..

You folks have pushed so far to the right on issues like Reproductive rights and immigration and education that no one else wants to join you. You are wrong on the issues and you are cutting off your nose to spite your face.

The GOP is not growing in this state at all. You have no ability to expend your base. If you can read anything into this it is that African Americans that never registered before are now registering to vote. A lot of this is backlash over the Voter ID laws and the noise over voter fraud. There are a few nationally broadcasted radio shows with very well respected hosts that are driving national voter registration campaigns. Judging from the high participation of African Americans in early voting I would say that their work is paying off. This is a good thing for Georgia and the US.

We are NOT a democracy!!! We are a Democratic Republic. If we were a democracy, the popular vote would determine the election results instead of the electoral colleges. However, we are close to a democracy, not what the founders intended. Our stupid push toward democracy is what is part of what is going to destroy this country. As soon as the receivers of government benefits outnumber the working people in this country. (Not including those receiving social security retirees,.) and realize they can vote themselves more, it is time for productive people to throw in the towel or take the country back – another revolution, even armed, maybe. No true democracy has ever survived this economic reality. PERSONAL compassion is what we need to have. Honestly, government causes a drop in personal charity contributions.
