Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, left, meets with the Rev. Billy Graham, center, and his son Franklin Graham last week in Montreat, N.C. AP/ Evan Vucci
Evangelicals have been handed one more hint that it’s all right to vote for Mitt Romney, whose Mormon faith has long been considered beyond the pale of American Protestantism. From the Charlotte Observer:
This week, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association removed Mormonism from its list of religious cults.
The reclassification follows Romney’s visit to Graham’s mountain home last Thursday, a meeting that also included Graham’s son Franklin, who now runs the association for his 93-year-old father….
An article on the Graham website had classified Mormons, along with Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists and Scientologists, among others, as cults.
“Our primary focus at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has always been promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Ken Barun, the evangelical association’s chief of staff, said in a prepared statement. “We removed the ( cult) information from the website because we do not wish to participate in a theological debate about something that has become politicized during this campaign.”
Mark DeMoss, head of an Atlanta public relations firm and a close adviser to the Grahams, has acted as a liaison between traditional evangelicals and the last two Romney campaigns for president.

I don’t know why Rev. Graham had to give away the store on this one, especially when his own heavenly accounting is fast approaching. He could just as well have said, “We still consider Mormonism a cult, but we are confident that Mitt Romney’s commitment to his faith is as superficial and malleable as his political positions.”

Let me translate this for you – Mitt Romney is the guy that we want you to vote for since he is the Republican and we can’t get you to vote for him when we are preaching demagoguery against his and other religions so those guys are cool with us now.
So if the next Republican candidate is a Jehovah’s Witness, Scientologists or gasp a Muslim will Franklin Graham have the same thought process?
Personally I do not care what any church says about politics because I keep both of them totally separate.

Rev, Graham may have dementia, but I remember quite well his silence during the Civil Rights movement. This so-called minister is just an opportunist who appears to attract extremists like former idiot, Richard Nixon, and modern day buffoon, Mitt Romney.

Charlatan. That is the word that comes to my mind when I hear Billy Graham’s name.
I am curious how much Romney paid for this sudden change of heart. We will never know…it was probably a personal check from one his his Swiss bank accounts. You know, because honest people have those types of bank accounts.
None of this really matters. The fascist right will take a Mormon over a black guy any day of the week.

Interesting development. And not isolated. Several protestant ministers have made a living bashing the Mormon faith only to suddenly “see the light” as it became apparent that Romney would be the Republican nominee.
Does that have anything to say about their convictions, or maybe, their lack of convictions?
If Mormonism is a cult, how does making Romney the nominee change Mormonism being a cult.
The Mormon faith has not changed. It is the same this year as it was last year. What changed was politics.

Politics makes strange pew-fellows. How much is the evangelical movement willing to compromise in their stated beliefs? All the Baptists who explained to me patiently for years how Mormonism is a cult have had a conversion experience. The most segregated hour in America is a still hallmark of the Southern Evangelicals. And let’s not even get into the historic treatment of Blacks as second class citizens by the LDS church.

Mormons don’t believe in the Holy Trinity — they believe God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are separate entities.
Here are some quotes from BillyGraham.org:
In general, cults differ from Christian churches first of all in what they believe. Cults always deny some part of what the Bible teaches (which is why some add other so-called “sacred” books to the Bible).
The basic mark of any cult, however, is that it rejects the divinity of Jesus. The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ was God in human flesh—that He alone was both fully man and fully God. Cults, however, deny this, and often confuse people who aren’t familiar with the Bible by twisting its meaning.
I’d love to know what the argument is for concluding that Mormonism is not a cult.

The so called “fascist right” would be glad to have a black president. The problem is whenever we have a good prospect they get lied about and ripped and the public believes everything the LIBERAL media says. Nobody who runs the national debt up the way the last two administrations has deserves to be president. That has nothing to do with color!

I can see the Grahams looking the other way and voting for a Mormon but to disavow something like the Graham’s are doing, here, is unnecessary and weakens their witness. I know they got a donation to the cause. This is so ugly. Presidents have had Billy Graham on speed dial since the 60’s and now, since he’s senile and his son doesn’t have the political authority of his dad, they do this…

I applaud Mr.Graham for meeting with Mitt Romney and hearing his personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. It is a man’s personal walk with our risen Lord that is the true test of a man’s walk with God. Only God knows a person’s heart and it is not anybody’s place to judge anothers commitment to Jesus. Yes, Mitt attends the Mormon Church and walks the Christian life whereas Obama claims to be a Christian and does everything he can to prove otherwise. Jesus said it best, “You shall know them by their FRUITS” Thank You Mr. Graham for your wisdom and Christian leadership. God Bless you Sir.

In the Last Days, even the elect will be deceived. I called the Billy Graham Ministries before this became public…I related my objections to Franklin deceiving Dr. Graham into endorsing Romney and the COST of this deception. You cannot imagine my shock when the person to whom I was speaking admitted their own fear.
It appears to me, after the Todd Akin affair, this candidate has no principles, integrity, or FEAR OF GOD. That is perhaps because his belief is that the Father God is a man of flesh and bones. This is revealed in the Doctrine and Covenants.
The Mormon Bible is composed of four books, The Bible, including scriptures added in Smith’s interpretation of IT, (2) The Doctrine and Covenants, (3) The Book of Mormon and (4) The Pearl of Great Price all four, including the Bible, are considered the Holy Word of God),

All religions are cults. That’s the whole point. They control you, tell you what to think, how to see others, how to vote, what to do with your money–all for the advancement of THEMSELVES. Please don’t fool yourself into thinking they actually CARE about you. Believe me, there are no bigger egos than the priestly class of any faith. God, Spirit, the Universe is far bigger, far greater than ANY religion. But dumb southerners are are merely religious sheep–led by their religious “shepherds.” Remember, the Kingdom of God is WITHIN–not with Billy Graham.

For a Christian who bases his hopes on a second coming of Jesus sometime in the future has to be a complete mindless nutcase. Graham has been such a futurist that he left the basic teachings of Christ and put everything off for some other time when Jesus comes back to rapture Graham and his baptist buds. There is not one scripture in the bible that teaches a “second coming of Jesus Christ”… none. Christ lives IN His followers … NOW. Apostle Paul clearly taught that. He continues to do that each and every day. Christ said He would come to destroy the old Jewish religion and that happened in AD70 when He used the Romans to do away with that entire system that was clearly trying to destroy Christianity. The kingdom of God is within His followers… with Christ changing them from the inside out. It has nothing to do with what Graham and others like him teach. ZERO

Gotta love it.

38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.

Wow what a tough issue. It’s just so upsetting to observe the Mormon’s presumptuous editing of our holy bible. This is like the Islam thing. Some christians dont believe in the virgin birth of Christ because it’s part of the doctrine of Islam. Do we exterminate false religions? Or do we share the planet and quit thinking we’re righteous, and let God sort us all out on judgement day? History recorded the result of our great great grandfather’s attempt to destroy Mormons. (Vengence is ours sayeth the Hoard.)
If only our bigoted and misguided ancestors had a crystal ball and could see how peaceful we now coexist with the Mormons, and how Mormons have produced amazing Americans like the Romneys.

If you read carefully, the statement says merely that they have removed the cult information because they don’t want to get into a political debate over it. They haven’t taken Mormons off their list, per-say… they just took down the list. It’s a case of “we are removing this bad press page because it makes us look bad, and it makes this other guy look bad”.

As a member of the Mormon church (and definitely not as a spokes person) I amazed and pleased by this gesture of good will. While I know several people commenting so far seem to know everything about his God’s mind and will and eternal judgement, I think as there have been bridges of understanding built between the religions the Reverends Graham acknowledge that we all need allies to fight against secularism and the lack of faith in God and Christ that is spreading rapidly. Mitt Romney will be an allay to the Evangelicals and the good work they do in spreading the word of Christ. Go read Mark 9:38-41. Fortunately the judgment of Mormons and Rev. Graham will be up to God. In the meantime, embrace those who are fighting for the same things as you.

What is baffling to me is even after slavery, the holocaust, the civil rights movement, and every other discriminatory and abhorrently ignorant displays of evil in between, we still have an abundance of people who obviously have hard and hateful hearts against a particular group of people for no other reason but they don’t understand them or are envious. This is apparent by reading any of these anti-mormon/anti-wealth posts that obviously base their assertions on their own concoctions and machinations rather than fact. All you have to do is attend a single meeting at the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints and you will quickly realize that their entire faith is centered in Christ. Whether you believe in the religion or not is one thing. But to demonize or spread falsehoods about a group of people is bigotry. Also, stop hating on Romney just because he’s been able to accumulate a great deal of wealth as a businessman. What in the world has happened to our country when wealth and success are frowned upon? None of it adds up and some of it is downright zany. Romney believes it all, I guess. I still think he is a lot better choice for President than Obama. He has my vote. It is ashamed that Franklin will ultimately destroy the Graham name and association. Were it not for Reberend Graham’s dementia this would not have happened. When Reverend Graham was of sound mind he distinctly defined cults and listed Mormons among them. About 15 years ago an evangelist made the rounds to many southern Baptist churches preaching against these cults and the Mormons in particular. I can’t remember his name but it was totally sanctioned by the Southern Baptist.I as a Southern Baptist personally have found Mormons to be pleasant, nice people. I just don’t agree with their theology. I’m guessing the game changer for Southern baptist, though they will not admit it,was the election of a black President. This has led to a change of theology apparently. We should be ashamed.

Very interesting, opportunistic, and so on……. He cooked his goose with me when he came out of his royalness to garner support to write the homosexual population out of the state constitution in North Carolina on Amendment One. So….if I read a report that he held up a bank or liquor store, chances are that I wouldn’t even flinch. He showed his true colors that day, so much for a legacy….. Usually, if you give them enough rope, they will hang themselves. No surprises where this racket is concerned.

I John 4:1 of the Bible says “…do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God…” Grahams, don’t be deceived. Mormonism is a cult because it believes the Bible is incomplete and that errors have been introduced. It has therefore taken the liberty to create other so called “sacred” texts to “add to” the Bible. I John 2:22, 23 says “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either.” Mormons don’t believe Jesus is divine so why would you all feel at ease to suport Romney and take Mormonism from your website listing of cults??! Are you now diluting the gospel you have preached for years?? You denounce the ways of Islam, are you now cowarding down to a wealthy politician because it looks bad? President Obama is not perfect but he has been baptized into Christ and believes Jesus is God – and is working hard to turn this nation right side up. Economically and with regards to protection from extremists. What is your problem? Anything you preach in a crusade from here forward means nothing to God if you don’t repent. I am a fellow Christian sister and according to the word of God I can judge you. So take heed “brother” and don’t sell out.

It’s about time. Mormonism is not a ‘cult’ any more that Jehovah’s witnesses are ‘cults’. I hate the term simply because AMERICANS CAME HERE TO PRACTICE RELIGIOUS FREEDOMS!! doesn’t matter if they are mormon, hindu, buddhist or muslim. The idea that somehow evil has come from a protestant rhetoric having to ‘eat crow’ and vote for the guy they have labeled for years is poetic justice. Their basic beliefs are the same as every other church. Christ is Lord, God is our Father in heaven and The Holy Spirit confirms the first two. Some of you people really need to learn how to read!!

Christianity is a total fraud. For centuries the Christians have used their religion to support the slave trade, to take away women’s right, and to ultimately wage war against anyone who holds different beliefs than they do. More wars have been fought over Christianity than for any other reason. And America is more segregated at 10 AM on a Sunday morning than at any other time of the week. All religions are cults and all cults are religions. The main difference between a religion and a cult is a religion is accepted and a cult isn’t. If you believe that God resides on a planet near the star Koloff in faraway solar system….you’re are a fool. If you believe that Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel….you’re a fool. If you believe in magic underwear….you’re fool. If you believe that St. Peter and Joseph Smith will be there to usher you through the pearly gates….you’re a fool. If you believe that black people wear the mark of Cain…you’re a fool. So by definition if you are a Mormon you are a fool!

It is so sad that people feel the way they do about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I am here to tell you that religion in itself will send you straight to hell. The Bible does not mention, Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Jehovah Witnesses and so forth. It does tell us to beware of false teachers. With this being said, the Bible tells us that the only way to the Father is thru Jesus, His Son. The Bible says, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one comes to the Father except by Me”. These words were spoken by Jesus, who came to give His life so that we might have life eternal when we die, if we believe and confess with our mouth that He is Lord. Also, notice that the Bible didn’t say a way, but the Jesus is THE Way!!!! I am sorry that the Grahams felt the need to do what they did. I don’t share Romney’s faith and convictions, but at least he does have convictions and I can just pray for him. The reason that our world is in the mess that it is in now is because our lack of convictions and lack of Godly men to lead us. If you remember, the reason our forefathers came to America in the first place was to worship God. Read your history!!!

Wilson: The bible is very clear that Jesus is not in fact God, rather, his only begotten son whom he sent forth to the Earth. There are countless scriptures that back up this fact. So called “christian” churches have lied to their members for generations. These lies, along with the idea that God would act along with Satan to punish people in a fiery hellfire forever are not backed up by the bible. I don’t expect you to agree, nor do I expect you to ever accept the truth about these matters. Just had to go on record since you were pretty blatant about this fact-wrong as you are.

If Jesus and all his disciples actually existed then where are they buried? Why is it that religious figures that existed thousands of years before Jesus have actual burial places that people can visit, yet you can’t find the burial places of anyone mentioned in the Bible? And why is the Bible the only mention of Jesus life. There were other writers who lived in the Middle East at the same time as Jesus yet none of them wrote about him and his supposed miracles. If Jesus was running around raising the dead and turning wine into water then you would think other people would write about it, but nobody did. The lack of proof makes you question the entire validity of the Christian religion.
Are you serious?

@ Glenn Dowell Rev, Graham may have dementia, but I remember quite well his silence during the Civil Rights movement
——————————————
I wondered about Graham’s civil rights record, especially knowing he grew up in North Carolina. Here is something I found on him on Wikipedia. Wrong?
From the mid-1950s on, Graham became increasingly opposed to segregation and racism, while keeping his eye on public opinion. For instance, in 1957 he invited Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. to join him in the pulpit at his 16-week revival in New York City, where 2.3 million gathered at Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium, and Times Square to hear them.[3] Graham never appeared publicly again with King, but he posted bail for the minister to get him released from jail in 1963 during the civil rights protests in Birmingham

It is what it is! Now, look who is trying to be politically correct! The ultra conservative right, trying to hide Romney’s background so he can gain. If you literally think about it, America is suppose to be a country with freedom of religion. Therefore, we should not try to force our views on religion toward others. Unfortunately, that is what the ultra conservative right wingers try to do. What is going to happen in 12-20 years when Obama is no longer in the picture and you have someone who is not a christian either president or about to become president? Are we going to attack them based on religion, call them a Muslim, Buddist, or whatever? As stated earlier, it is what it is! Mormonism is about many marriages, hatred, racism, and other bigotry. But, to be politically correct, or to keep a good black man out of office who is trying to better America for ALL Americans, Graham and others choose to hide behind their ignorance!

I still believe it to be a cult, but after searching on the internet for a simple, scriptural explanation, other that fruitcake sites, I can’t find one. I vote GOP, so MR’s mormonism won’t stop me in the slightest. I sure would like to get a definitive book on why this a cult. Someone loaned me a book back in the early 80s on how the various denominations were in scriptural error. I grew up a baptist and was shocked that they had some scriptural errors. I swore off going to anything that was denominational at the time, but have since mellowed out. I go to First Assembly in Griffin; it’s not perfect, by far, but for a denominational church, it’s mostly scripturally correct. The pastor is a respecter of persons to a small degree, but then again, apart from his preaching from the pulpit, I don’t like him, either…

From an evangelical perspective, Mormonism is not faithfully or soundly Christian because it deviates from historic, biblical standards of orthodox Christianity. For example, Mormonism teaches that God the Father is an exalted Man, that Jesus, angels, and human beings were all the literal spirit offspring of our “heavenly Father and Mother,” and that the ultimate goal of the Christian life is to become exalted to Godhood ourselves. The LDS Church derives these doctrines from its expanded canon of “scripture” that includes alleged modern revelations given to Joseph Smith, who claimed to be the Prophet through whom God restored true Christianity to the earth.

AD70 was the end of the Jewish religion as the world knew it. Jesus prophesied that it would be destroyed in Matthew 24. That is the only time He said He would come … not some other time way out in the future as Billy Graham has taught all of these years… along with Hagee, LaHaye, Lindsey, Camping. The “second coming of Jesus Christ” is not in the Bible… anywhere.
He came INTO His followers on the Day of Pentecost and continues to live IN His followers today.
It has nothing to do with any “second coming” in this or any other generation.
AD70 ended the old Jerusalem … and all of its Jewish practices… temple, feasts, priests, etc.
Jesus said … “this generation would not pass away until all of these things happened” The generation He was talking to was the one standing right there with him. Remember audience relevance. Stick to the correct tenses and you will find the 1st century generation of believers were the ones going through tribulation… not our generation which is what Billy Graham has taught all these years.

He then says Mormons, as a people, are “honest, hard working, moral, ethical, etc.” Here’s my question for others to consider: how does a mormon theology which RonTech characterizes as crazy, zany, strange and unsupportable produce a mormon people that is ” “honest, hard working, moral, ethical, etc.”? Another question for others to consider: What’s crazy, zany, strange and unsupportable about a theology that produces people who are honest, hard-working, moral, ethical, etc.?

The Billy Graham Evangelical Association does not keep a keep a list of cults. So Mormonism was not removed from the imaginary list. All that happened was that Billy Graham endorsed Romney because it is believed he is better for America and Christian values than Obama. He says, ” I hope millions of Americans will join me in praying for our nation and to vote for candidates who will support the biblical definition of marriage, protect the sanctity of life and defend our religious freedoms.”

Joanne32 if you will do a bit of research you’ll find that the very first Christians, a sect that was established around 80 AD, were called the Ebionites. They were based in Jerusalem and believed Jesus was the Messiah. They did not, however, believe in the immaculate conception, nor the resurrection, nor the divinity of Jesus. They were the original Christians and their beliefs were mainstream at the time.
It wasn’t until much later, until the authors of the New Testament got ahold of Jesus, that he turned into a whiz-bang miracle man who got up after being dead 3 days, brushed off the dirt and got on with things. Chrstianity, in fact, was doing just fine until the authors of the New Testament came along and totally corrupted it.

Destructive cult or benign religion?
The *Cult* word gets overused, but in some cases it is appropriate.
The definition of a destructive religious cult is like alcoholism-if booze controls you instead of the other way around you are an alcoholic.
I was in the Watchtower society Jehovah’s Witnesses, they are not benevolent and won’t let you leave their organization in peace. The Jehovahs are not without scandals-child abuse, deceptive mind control tactics, sex scandals, money scams, general bad behavior.
Is it a cult?
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck….

For a history lesson – almost 1700 years ago the church met and established the Nicene Creed – we Christians believe in the Trinity – a couple hundred years ago a man in New York found gold tablets that he used to define his belief in 3 gods – the father, the son and the holy ghost. So now – Graham says the 3 gods are not a cult? So what god is Graham praying to? – the Trinty or some other set of gods?
And for those “Christians” who say the Nicene Creed is wrong – in the beginning was the Word – and the Word was God and was made flesh….or see the http://www.spurgeon.org.

On the subject of civil rights:
You can espouse all the lies about Billy Graham you want, but he’s still the man who once bailed Martin Luther King Jr. out of jail in Birmingham and once told a white audience, “we have been proud and thought we were better than any other race, any other people. Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to stumble into hell because of our pride.”
Yeah, sounds like a real racist.
And Joanne32a @ 10:22 a.m.: Matthew 24:23-31; Matthew 24:36-44; Matthew 25:31-46; Acts 1:10-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8. Sorry for all the references, I just thought you’d like to know the Bible has a lot to say about Jesus PHYSICALLY returning one day. Sending the Holy Spirit was a different thing entirely.
You say, “For a Christian who bases his hopes on a second coming of Jesus sometime in the future has to be a complete mindless nutcase.” Um, that’s pretty much all Christians then, regardless of denomination. It’s a universal teaching in the Bible.

Jesus pronounced judgement on the generation living at the time of His prophecy in Matthew 24 Mark 13 and Luke 21
– The same “wicked and adulterous generation” who was asking for a sign (Matt. 12:39, 16:4)
- The same one He calls an “unbelieving and perverse generation,” of which He asks “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you?” (Matt.17:17.
- The same one that would reject God’s only Son: “But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generatino” (Luke 17:25)
- The same one to whom John the Baptist came and about which came about which Jesus lamented, “To what shall I compare this generation?” (Matt. 11:16-24)
- The same one who would crucity Him: “Therefore, this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.” (Luke 11:50, 51b)
- They were worse than all previous generations “more wicked… That is how it will be with this wicked generation. (Matt. 12:45)
- And the same one Apostle Peter warned his contemporaries about: “Sve yourselves from this corrupt (perverse) generation” (Acts 2:40)
- As far back as the Song of Moses in the Old Testament, which prophesied what the end of Israel would be like, God spoke through Moses of this same perverse generation, thusly: “I will hide my face from them… and see what their end will be for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful…. I will heap calamities upom them and spend my arrows against them. (Deut. 32:30, 23)
The generation Jesus was clearly speaking to that was due for destruction was the one living at the time He spoke it… NOT OUR GENERATION.
Judgment did come in AD70 via the Romans and did away with the old Jewish religious system of that day. What the Jewish people today are doing means nothing… they can worship however way they want …. however… the old Jewish religious system was based on temple, priests, blood sacrifices, feasts, etc.
Jesus destroyed that system. If you look real closely you will see a empty temple mount …
He called it a “sign of this coming” in the clouds.

I recently watch old footage on PBS of Billy Graham with former President Richard Nixon. It showed that Graham ran to his side even after he found out that Nixon was wrong with Watergate. Just because they are both Republicans. It showed that he stayed by Nixon and continued to tell Nixon how great he was. I became so disappointed in Mr. Graham after this because from what I see, the apple does not fall to far from the tree. Franklin Graham seems to be worst that his father when it comes to politics instead of what is right with God. It also looks like Franklin Graham sat his father in front of the camera for this photo shot. It is Franklin Graham who is endorsing Romney. Sad.

@Joe Velardita – “Think about it. A virgin birth?”
Your lack of respect for the greatest story ever told is unacceptable. Try opening your Bible with a group of friends who can help you understand the true meaning of the birth, death and resurection of Jesus Christ especially as we approach the holiday seasons. Jesus said “he is the light of the world and no one can get to the Father unless they accept him as their personal savior.” There is still time to redeem yourself and save your own soul. Real Christian’s know that when Jesus died on that old rugged cross and came out of the grave in 3 days we have the “Victory”. Real Christian’s know we are just being faithful until he returns. How can I help serve you? Are you hungry, sick, homeless? Are you in need of prayer? Know is the time. Praise the Lord.

Joanne, it’s all foretold:
30 When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations,
2 and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today,
3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes[a] and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.
4 Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back.
5 He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors.
6 The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.
7 The Lord your God will put all these curses on your enemies who hate and persecute you.
If you have a problem with Jews, reread v.7 a few times.

It is men like Billy Graham and his futurists buddies that the world of Christianity is in the mess it is in today. Graham always taught Jesus was coming within this generation which is completely against what Jesus Christ said. Jesus said “this generation shall on pass away until all these things happened” …. “this geneation” mean… the generation He was speaking to NOT OURS.
He did escatly what He said He would do to “that generation” Graham wants to negat Jesus’ words…like he either lied or didn’t know what He was talking about.
However, Mr. Graham… you are the one who is wrong. Just look what happened in AD70… to “that generation” …. the only generation that deserved judgement and the only one Jesus said it would happen.
Have fun explaining that to God when you meet Him …. You were the one mistaken… you are the one who misguided believers all these years… making light of Jesus’ words and replacing them with your own.

I don’t have a problem with Jews. The true Jew is one who has his heart circumcised not his penis. The only thing that made Abraham righteous was his faith in the SEED (Jesus) that was coming.
Jesus came to save the Jew first… then the gentile. Salvation is of the Jews… Jesus taught that. He was their messah first… to the Jew first… then the gentile.
Most of “that generation” did not want the spiritual kingdom Jesus offered but that didn’t change anythying. His spiritual kingdom still moved forward within the 40 remaining years of “that generation” …. winding up in AD70 with the destruction of “that generation” … just like the destruction of “that generation” that came out of Egypt who wandered in the desert for 40 years.
Salvation is of the Jews…

Joanne32a,
You’re correct in pointing out that Jesus prophesied the fall of Jerusalem at the hands of the Romans.
But that doesn’t discount the other scriptures, some of which I specifically mentioned to you, that cite Jesus Christ WILL physically return one day.
To say that Israelites circa AD 70 were “the only generation that deserved judgement” has got to be one of the silliest, most ignorant things I’ve ever heard. Since you (sort of/thinly/out of context) use the Bible to support your statements, what do you think about the fact that “there is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10) and “there is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:22-23)?
Yeah, “the only generation that deserved judgment.” That’s hilarious.

That “generation” deserved the judgment it had coming and it came. You are right there is none righteouse… no not one. However, “that generation” …not ours was a very special generation that was receiving tribulation…. not ours. We have the ability of having Christ living in us… as He did within the first generation of believers.
However, the generation Jesus clearly referred to when He walked out of the temple .. was the generation living at the time He spoke it to. NOT OURS……
Each Christian has to walk out their own salvation… having Jesus living within them right now. Not having to WAIT ala Billy Graham… the Apostle Paul taught “Christ in you.. the hope of glory” … not having to WAIT for a physical second comingof Jesus. Paul even taught in 2Cor 13:5 … that Jesus Christ was living IN those believers… just like He lives in believers today.
Billy Graham and his futuristic buddies have been wrong. The only generation that had that kind of judgment coming to it was the generation Jesus said it would happen to…. NOT OURS

First of all, as a Christian, Mormonism is an affront to authentic Christianity. For instance, Jesus supposed to have visited America and hung out with folks right after the Resurrection. And I guess He revealed himself to a multitude of Native Americans, yet only LDS people have any record of this. Oh, and that there are 3 heavens, not one. Oh, and God rules the universe, but there are many universes and many gods- each ruling their own universe.
As a Christian, Yikes! And this is what concerns me. You can vote for a guy that believes this, if you think that he’s the right man for the job. I’ve known Mormons and they are cool. But to discount their bizarre theological practices and thoughts in order to make it OK for Christians to vote for a guy in a political campaign is simply deception for political gain.
I would rather have Billy Graham’s organization to simply say that it’s Ok to vote for Romney as Christians. And the reason why is because what politician will totally satisfy all religious mandates in a Democratic Republic?

And which cult do you belong to the Church of everthing already happened, so there is no hope in Christs return….lol
None of the Mainstream Christian Denominations, would agree with anything you are spouting.
Because Israel rejected Christ, God allowed the Romans to destroy Jerusalem in 70 A.D., and the Jews were dispersed among the Gentile nations of the world. Since then they have wondered from nation to nation suffering bitter persecution. However, in the late 1800’s a remarkable thing started happening. In large numbers, the Jews began returning to Palestine, and in 1887 they made formal statements that they intended to REPOSSESS THEIR HOMELAND!
When World War I began in 1914, there were 80,000 Jews living in Palestine. England’s Balfour Declaration of 1917 gave strong approval for the Jews to establish a national homeland, but England reneged due to Arab pressure. Nevertheless, 400,000 Jews had settled in the homeland by 1939.
Satan saw what was happening. He knew that the Lord was regathering the Jews for a reason, and he knew the reason: the Second Coming of Christ. So Satan raised up Adolph Hitler to murder six million of God’s chosen people as an outright act of hate and revenge. This massive slaughter created enough sympathy for the Jews that the United Nations granted 5000 square miles of Palestinian land to them after World War II. Then in 1948 Israel became an independent nation for the first time in many centuries! The Arabs have fought viciously to destroy Israel, but with no success. God wants His people IN PALESTINE (Amos 9:14-15), because the Lord Jesus Christ is coming very soon. During the Six Day War of 1967, Israel even gained possession of the ancient temple sight, and plans are currently underway to rebuild the temple.
Jesus likens Israel unto a “fig tree” in Matthew 24:32-34, and He likens the restoration of Israel unto a fig tree putting forth leaves. He said that He would return during the same generation which witnesses Israel putting forth leaves as a nation. We are living in that generation! There are some four million Jews living in Palestine today. We have seen the Jews return to Palestine, and we have seen the nation of Israel prosper.
Friend, there’s a reason for all of this: the Lord Jesus Christ is coming soon!

Pat,
Belief in Jesus isn’t enough. Muslims believe in Jesus- they call him Imam Isa. Satan believes in Jesus and tremble, according to Scripture.
But belief in Jesus for what? That is the question. As Christians, we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died for our sins- my own personal sins. We believe that without that belief, we wouldn’t receive eternal life in Heaven. We believe that only through Him, mankind can be saved. And we believe that His Word is eternal, everlasting and without rival.
Salvation through Grace is what Christians believe in- not salvation through obedience. The reason why is because we cannot achieve righteousness on our own strength. We strive to obey God, but we will always fall short. So we are saved on the credit of Jesus’ death.
Oh, and no baptisms of dead people. Baptizing a corpse is silly.

Hey Bob …. ya been reading too many Hal Lindsey books, brother. You are taking Jesus’ words right out of context .. just like Graham and his futuristic buddies have done over the years … and try to prove something that is just not going to happen. The judgment genreration Jesus spoke to was the one living at the time He walked the earth. You have to twist and turn the Bible to prove your point…. which is what Graham and his buddies have done …
Look…. ‘Jesus is coming!! …. He is over there… no He is over here …. However… the Kingdom of God is within you. Christ lives now…. IN His believers…. and no one has to wait for a “second coming” when that is not even in the Bible …. “the second coming of Jesus Christ” is not in the bible anywhere.
Jesus comes… into anyone who opens the door to their hearts and He comes into…. Right now… it has happened millions of times over these past generations…. Our generation is just another generation… even if Israel has its land back … the only reason they were allowed to keep it in the first place was if they were obedient to God. Just look what happened when they were disobedient…
You can go on believing in Billy and his buds… looking at Israel for whatever you think is going to happen there … However…. you make a mockery out of what Jesus said was going to happen to “this generation” … the generation that He dealt very seriously with in AD70….

To Bob and all those that irrationally use religion to explain everything:
I don’t think that just because something is explained using religion that it is exempt from criticism or scrutiny. Religion is not a free pass for crazy ideas and crazy actions. This applies to a range of things from christians attempting to teach their gospel in public schools to muslims seeking to kill in the name of their god.
I’m not judging those who see the world through religious lens. But I can’t ignore when personal belief becomes public action. And for too long this country has made public laws based on personal religious beliefs. And I can come up with some fairly screwy beliefs and call it religion just as easily as anyone else. If public officials then push for those ideas to bear on 100% of the population through laws, then it is not a question of respecting personal religious beliefs.
Rational-minded people aren’t anti-religion. If there are sides to be taken and we have to divide ourselves, I’d wish that line could be drawn between reasonable and unreasonable people, rather than the religious and the non-religious.
Keep your religions out of my life. I wish I could vote for candidates that looked at things rationally and using empirical evidence…

Wonderful. It’s the 21st century, our economy is in the crapper, and we’re still having to put up with “my mythology’s better than your mythology’ arguments from the Bronze Age.

Theists believe in those things which they feel through faith in God. Faith is completely dead to me. If I cannot experience or test something through my five natural senses, then it must not exist. This is a completely rational way to view the world. A way which deprives of knowledge which may be gained only through faith.

@BobDog….As a moderate, Graham deplored civil rights activists who participated in protests and acts of civil disobedience. Graham’s critics point to this contradiction — while Graham supported equality, he denounced the activists and protesters who forced the social and legal changes that made equality for African Americans possible.

I don’t care what religion Willard embraces, but I don’t have to want someone who’s out on the fringe being president. I’ve been able to excuse mainstream religious beliefs because a) they’re politically expedient and b) the “miracles” happened so long ago that you can forgive the scribes for thinking that an earthquake was the wrath of God. I have a lot more trouble voting for someone who believes that Joseph Smith found golden tablets in upstate New York – golden tablets that only he could see and read – and they told him to start a religion, have multiple wives, not to have multiple wives (later interpretation), baptise the dead, etc. I really don’t want someone who believes that controlling the nuclear weapons stockpile or impacting the economy. Now, I would have no problem hiring a Mormon to be my doctor, CPA, etc. – just not president of the USA.

Graham is not the only Christian I know who has sold out their values in support of this Romney character. This guy has a background just as if not more shadier than the sitting president. I’d rather give see Jimmy Carter Jr get a 2nd term than go down the path Romney will take us.

@Willard the Baptist, but if the President believes that Moses parted the Red Sea, or that God spoke out of a burning bush, or that Abraham and many other prophets in the Bible had multiple wives, that is ok right? If something sounds weird but it was a (relatively) long time ago then it’s ok? Just want to make sure I understand.

To this Glenn Dowell Ed.D and other blinded by the smile of Barrack Obama. It’s not Rev Grahams decision nor is it ours to Label L.D.S. as a cult. I am not a mormon ,but know one thing for sure ,they are generally good business people with extremely good family values ,both of which this country is lacking, and for GOD”s sake and this country ,dont you think we deserve a president that doesnt want to compare himself to an impeached Bill Clinton. We also need a president that knows there are 50 states not 57 in the 50 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA> And one more humble than the 2 obnoxious ones now in office. And Mr Dowell and others speaking badly of the Rev Graham who has given his life for God, I wish you well and advise you to stay indoors during any lighting storm

Steve,
So God causes lightning and uses that power to smite those who speak ill of members of a particular brand of faith? Does he smite those who disparage Catholics? What about priests charged with sexual abuses – does their faith guard against God’s wrath? I just want to know, because I continue to find it odd that one man can receive such protection simply by retelling old tales and taking money from people who think he will save them from something anyone could possibly foresee.
I do look forward to any evidence you can present. I was foolish to think that lightning is caused by electrostatic discharge in the atmosphere.

I was raised Southern Baptist and we were taught as small children–Mormonism is a cult! I don’t separate people from the faith. I do know and respect some Mormon people, but still view their religion as a cult. I’m sorry, I can’t vote for Romney….first as a Mormon, secondly as a Republican with so much wealth he is out of touch with middle America.

Whether people agree or disagrees with Billy Graham, that is their choice. He is right and he’s standing by his beliefs like anybody else would. I admire this man because of what he stands for. I have never heard any scandal on him like I have on others. I totally admire this man and he has been a inspiration to many people including me and my family.

I for one have supported the Billy Graham Association for many years. But this is over the pale. There are thousands of X-Mormons out there who have seen their lives demolished by this cult. God is a spaceman from the planet Kolob? Jesus is Lucifer’s brother? Of course it is a cult.
