Your morning jolt: Blowing the lid off Libya – but not in a good way

Out of Wednesday’s hearings in Washington on an attack on a U.S. compound in Libya last month, the Associated Press chose this straight approach:

Four weeks before the election, Republicans used a politically charged House hearing to confront State Department officials about security at the U.S. Consulate in Libya and assail the Obama administration’s early response to the killing of the ambassador and three other Americans there.

GOP lawmakers refused to accept the department’s explanation Wednesday that protection judged adequate for the threat was overwhelmed by an unprecedented assault in Benghazi on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

But over at the Washington Post,
Dana Milbanks has this version:

The purpose of Wednesday’s hearing of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee was to examine security lapses that led to the killing in Benghazi last month of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three others. But in doing so, the lawmakers reminded us why “congressional intelligence” is an oxymoron.

Through their outbursts, cryptic language and boneheaded questioning of State Department officials, the committee members left little doubt that one of the two compounds at which the Americans were killed, described by the administration as a “consulate” and a nearby “annex,” was a CIA base. They did this, helpfully, in a televised public hearing.

***
Ralph Reed, with his new Faith and Freedom organization behind him, was among those who came to Mitt Romney’s defense on Wednesday, declaring that the Republican presidential nominee’s recent remarks on abortion in Iowa should not be viewed as a retreat – or at all inconsistent. From the conservative website NewsMax.com:

***
The Georgia Tipsheet is reporting that Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, who debates Vice President Joe Biden in Danville, Ky., this evening, will headline an Oct. 24 fundraiser at the Cobb Energy Centre. Entry will cost a minimum of $500. No signs of a public event.

***
Funeral arrangements for Dick Pettys, the longtime Georgia political reporter, are as follows: Visitation is Sunday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel in Brookhaven, 4550 Peachtree Road Ne, Atlanta, GA 30319. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 1243 Hulsey Road, in Cleveland, Ga., at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

***
Am I the only one who missed this New York Times piece about Georgia schools and medication?

CANTON, Ga. — When Dr. Michael Anderson hears about his low-income patients struggling in elementary school, he usually gives them a taste of some powerful medicine: Adderall.

The pills boost focus and impulse control in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Although A.D.H.D is the diagnosis Dr. Anderson makes, he calls the disorder “made up” and “an excuse” to prescribe the pills to treat what he considers the children’s true ill — poor academic performance in inadequate schools.

“I don’t have a whole lot of choice,” said Dr. Anderson, a pediatrician for many poor families in Cherokee County, north of Atlanta. “We’ve decided as a society that it’s too expensive to modify the kid’s environment. So we have to modify the kid.”

Point #2 – Willard Romney is a flip flopper as was John Kerry in 2004. Somehow the right has selective amnesia on what is flip flopping. Shame.

Just know that it’s God’s Will that Barack Obama is and will remain the President of the United States of America.

Not sure why you chose to highlight the WaPo piece in comparison to the AP piece? The WaPo piece is an op-ed, not meant to be “news” in the same vein as the AP article.

What am I missing?

When it comes to gaining a political advantage, the white wing couldn’t care less about national security. We saw them knowingly, calculatingly out CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson in hopes of covering up their lies about Iraq, and now in their zeal to gain some traction against Obama, they have endangered Libyan and American agents, and probably set back operations in that country by years. These people are recklessly ambitious, mixed with a large dose of stupid, a deadly combination that will always put party above country.

“We’ve decided as a society that it’s too expensive to modify the kid’s environment. So we have to modify the kid.”

It’s not too expensive to “modify” the kid’s parents before they have the kid. If you can’t afford kids, don’t have them.

Republicans are so obsessed with defeating Obama, they are willing to sacrifice the economy and security of this Nation.

They aren’t friends of the military, women, elderly, minorities, or even Israel. they are just tools to be used and abused to defeat Obama and enrich themselves.

The latest jobless arte shows over 300,000 new jobs created . . . but fails to mention that the report does not include the fact that an unidentified “large state” failed to report offsetting first time unemployment claims. One has to wonder if that “large state” just might be (gasp!) Illinois?

Repeated requests for additional embassy security personnel in Libya were denied . . . but Obama appointees have more than adequate security personnel wherever they travel

No money was available to upgrade the embassies in Libya to meet the minimum security standards . . . but millions of dollars were spent refurbishing muslim temples in the Middle East.

“It has been reported recently by WSB-TV 2 in Atlanta that the US State Department funded, with US taxpayer dollars, more than $750 million dollars to rebuild Mosques in the Middle East. When questioned, State Department officials would acknowledge only that rebuilding the Mosques was a way to “build goodwill” in the area with local inhabitants.”

Curious, You could not be more accurate. I am an independent that is OUTRAGED at the mendacious mockery the Republican money mogules have made of the Pres debates, the political process and the Good ol US of A in general. The extremists in the middlerast would love to pull us into a war and the GOP is willing to accommodate them to enrich their own coffers.

Politics is a game – Progressive want to to save the poor and downtrodden the old adage WHAT WOULD JESUS DO? Not saying that all progressive are walking the walk of Jesus. But they are more about keeping and enforcing the rights of the people – freedom from corporate tyranny. Using the government for the good of the people.

While Conservatives want to enrich themselves. Thus the coziness with corporations and making sure they have rights to destroy our land and foul our water as long as the conservative gets a piece of the action. Enslave the people so the corporation can run a muck. In addition to forcing the people to live the conservative values through government might.

Why would anyone sell their soul for a piece of gold? In the end God will sort it out.

cc,
I don’t care anything about your political picks for president, nor doIi really care about Auntie Christs’s either. Both men are pitiful example of leaders. Obama can’t think on his feet in a discussion (which is scary when he has to sit down with other nation’s leaders and make decisions), and Romney will say anything to get elected (which means he has no center and no place to stand when things get difficult). The real problems are in Congress.

Those clowns are destroying our nation trying to stay in power. Both parties are equally guilty of protecting their own interests instead of the nation.

That being said, I was incensed when a “liberal” reporter identified CIA officers during the Viet Nam “Conflict.” That traitor, and that’s exactly what he was, should have been executed in broad daylight in front of his family for putting good men and true at risk of their lives.

Your defense of Cheney is abominable. For purely political reasons he destroyed (and don’t try to tell me his “lap dog” did it all on his own) the career of a CIA officer and put at risk every one of her “contacts” for political gain. And now Cheney is welcomed back into the Republican fold. A pox on you all.

Our intrepid cub reporter cc also moonlights as a migrant farm worker. Or at least I have to assume this since he is so astute at cherry picking. From his comment one would deduce that Obama’s sole purpose in life is funding Mosques all over the middle east at the expense of our diplomats’ security. In providing a link to his ‘cherries’ he so carefully picked, he hoped the reader would play the good pox news groupie and not examine the source or seek out the truth. The article he quotes also points out these facts concerning USAID disbursements:

Also, more than $15 million was given by the U.S. and the Egyptian government to revive another 1,300-year-old mosque, a Roman tower, a Greek Orthodox Church and other buildings. And in Cyprus, $5 million in U.S. federal funds was given to restore a mosque and a Greek Orthodox monastery. FactCheck.org also verified that the Mali and Tajikistan mosque projects involved monies for computer equipment.
the Obama administration has distributed 6 million American tax dollars to revive or preserve 63 historic, religious and cultural places, including Islamic mosques and towers, in 55 nations under the appearance of “Cultural Affairs” and “Cultural Preservation 2010 Awards.”

the agency says it pledged $18.8 billion for all of its global projects.
*****************************************************

Our intrepid cub reporter also blithely ignores (remember ‘ignore’ is the root of ‘ignorance’) the fact that while the white wing has adamantly refused to allocate all the stimulus funds requested by Obama for infrastructure projects in the US, they couldn’t allocate monies fast enough to build schools, bridges, highways and Mosques in Iraq, after we spent billions to destroy the same schools, bridges, highways and Mosques in Iraq. And that sir is fact, not opinion.

It’s absurd that children get Ritalin, adults with coverage get Adderall, and uninsured adults use cocaine, when they’re all from the same psychotropic family and serve the same medicinal purpose.

Once again, the mindless blather of the ignorant commie-liberals on here exposes the fact they could care less about the REAL ISSUES…as long as Uncle Odumbo keeps them warm, fed, and hooked up with a free cellphone.

The democrat playbook has been the same for years…get the citizens in panic that their entitlements will be taken away by those “mean spritied” Republicans and ensure that Class Warfare is utilized in every speech; because those greedy rich people got rich off the backs of loyal union card carrying democrats…..and if all else fails, toss the race-card in for good measure. Never mind that the Republicans have done more for minorities, and that democrats conveiniently ignored that many of their members were card carrying KKK members….some even openly serving in Congress and the Senate.

Now, back to work for me. Millions of odumbo supporters are depending on me to pay my taxes and take care of the 47%….God forbid, that they should get a job, save their money for a down payment on a place to live, practice thrift when spending their money, or use common sense before doing anything that might improve their lot in life…..or cause them to grow up to be responsible adults…..

Jim, check out the geography of the 47% in this map of the states. While the color scheme should have been shades of red and blue, the picture is clear. The reddest of red states are the reason Romney (publicly) backtracks (Romney supporters are much of the large and growing 47%). No one in their right mind would want to be anywhere close when the payola that keeps the 47% complacent comes to an end, and it will come to an end:

http://www.theatlanticcities.com/jobs-and-economy/2012/09/geography-47/3323/

excerpt:

Three states had more than 40 percent nonpayers — Mississippi (44.5 percent), followed by Georgia (42.5 percent), and Alabama (40.3 percent) — and all three were solidly for McCain in 2008. The remaining top ten were largely in the Sunbelt: Florida (39.0 percent), Arkansas (38.8 percent), South Carolina (38.8 percent), New Mexico (38.7 percent), Idaho (38.6 percent), Texas (38.5 percent), and Utah (38.3 percent). All but two of the top ten — Florida and New Mexico — went for McCain. At least a third of the filers in about half of the states (26) were non-taxpayers.

They say they do not engage in Ad Hominem Attacks and when presented with proof, ignore the proof and continue both saying that they never make Ad Hominem Attacks and continue to make them.

Be assured, if CC demands proof that he has defended Cheney..he has.

It a shame that this “DR. Anderson” is still in practice. I personally know mothers who use to take their kids to see him and he writes them whatever drugs they want. This man has performed surgeries on almost all of their kids. Most of them deemed medically unnecessary. Almost all of them had MRSA infections right after. He also knocks them out to perform the surgeries. One friend’s daughter was so traumatized by him cutting on her vagina for MRSA that she had to seek counseling afterwards. Come to find out she could have easily treated it with antibiotics! Now she has a horrible scar and has to have a second surgery to correct it! Who is this guy and when is Georgia going to wake up that he is a fraud! And they have also told me he keeps his pet dogs in the reception area. One friend saw dog poop in the waiting room! And he has the nerve to write “poor kids” meds so they have an advantage later in life? Give me a break!

I watched hearing on c-span 10/10/12, probably avail. unless repub. removed it.

Tea Party Republicans Issa, Charettz others in loud aggressive insulting political speeches told me,murderers, terrorist and everyone else in world about 3 teams of special operations each 16 members, outed CIA, showed where buildings were,.

Today a Yemen embassy security officer was asassinated on way to work, I am sorry for his family.

We have 50 marines there with embassy staff , I hope they do not become targets, I wish they could close up shop for awhile.
Did Republicans get enough political fodder to make it worth it to tell methods, ruin ongoing investigation etc.
Why do police say no comment on ongoing investigations. Wouldn’t you think Republican congressmen/Rommey had a brain?
