Updated at 5:30 p.m. with link to WABE (90.1FM) interview:
One of the most ironic notes of the 2012 presidential campaign was sounded last night when a video surfaced — courtesy of liberal magazine Mother Jones – in which Republican nominee Mitt Romney told a group of California fundraisers that he considered nearly half of all Americans to be unreachable moochers who can’t be weaned away from President Barack Obama.
The fellow who dug that video up was James Earl Carter IV of Dunwoody, 35-year-old son of Chip and grandson of the former president. “There are some people on Twitter and other places who are saying it was poetic justice that it was a Carter that found this, because of the way the Romney campaign has treated my grandfather,” Carter IV said. “I completely agree with that sentiment.”
Carter IV, who is currently unemployed and trying to break into the political research business, said he conducts daily searches on YouTube and other sites, looking for ground-breaking video. “At the end of August, I came across a video of Romney at a fund-raising event, talking about a factory he visited in China,” he said. Much of it had been blurred out, but it looked promising.
The video was posted – falsely – under the name of Rachel Maddow, the MSNBC host, but then disappeared after Maddow’s people filed an objection with YouTube. Shortly afterwards, the video popped up again – this time under the name of Anne Onymous.
Carter IV sent messages to the originator of the video through YouTube, then Tumblr. He soon had a new Tumblr follower named Anne Onymous. Direct contact quickly followed.
The video that had been posted so far had not included the portion in which Romney declared:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. There are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.”
Carter IV didn’t know where or when the recording was made. “The first thing I asked was can you tell me where this was filmed,” Carter said. “They wouldn’t tell me this, but they did respond to me.” (The video was made May 17 at the Boca Raton, Fla., home of financier Marc Leder, as part of a $50,000-a-person fund-raiser.)
As it turned out, the shooter of the video was associated with Global-Tech, a Hong Kong-based firm that a Bain Capital affiliate had acquired. Several weeks earlier, Carter IV had worked with Mother Jones writer David Corn on an article on the acquisition. Thus Carter IV was able to establish his bone fides with the source.
“They wanted to get the story out and they wanted to assure their jobs,” Carter said. And they wanted to make sure they weren’t running afoul of any privacy laws. So on Aug. 30, the last day of the Republican National Convention, Carter IV handed off the video contact to Corn of Mother Jones, who eventually obtained the whole of the video.
“Once I realized there was a lot more involved in this than I could personally deal with, my goal became to get the story out,” said Carter IV, who met Corn for the first time at the Democratic National Convention this month.
“I thought it would be a little bit of a story, but it has gotten a lot bigger than I would have ever thought,” said Carter IV, who picked up 1,500 Twitter followers overnight. He’s still looking for work, but things are looking up. “I’ve had some offers now. I haven’t accepted any of them yet, but that’s not a concern anymore, I guess,” he said.
Catch the Associated Press follow-up on the story here.
Denis O’Hayer of WABE (90.1FM) has posted a 14-minute interview with James Carter here. It’s worth checking out. O’Hayer asked him if revenge was a factor in his research. Said the president’s grandson:
“It wasn’t a part of the motivation, but it was definitely a part of the satisfaction.”

Walter Jones of Morris News Service says Republican Lee Anderson of Grovetown has declined yet another opportunity to debate U.S. Rep. John Barrow of Augusta:
A spokesman for Republican challenger Lee Anderson told the nation’s second-largest press club that he is declining an invitation to debate the man he wants to unseat, Democratic Congressman John Barrow.
The Atlanta Press Club’s Oct. 21 debate would be televised throughout the whole district on Georgia Public Broadcasting, unlike local media outlets that only reach voters in various parts of the 12th District. Anderson participated in the club’s debate during the primary.

Meanwhile, the AJC’s Politifact Georgia today takes a look at Republican charges that U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Augusta, “left taxpayers on the hook for $950k study on genetic makeup of ants.”

Can we call him “Chipper”? Great find and good luck with the job search. CNN needs some help. That John Berman guy apparently lacks a certain part of the male anatomy and is afraid to ask tough questions of people of the GOP persuasion. He will talk all over a Democrat though. Taken in context, the ado is much about nothing. All he said was that this group is not going to vote for him and that his target for campaigning is not this group. It is getting distorted by the left and the general media when all he spaid was common sense.

Truth (mostly) hurts, doesn’t it. Like Mr. Carter, I am currently unemployed and have applied for benefits. It’s been a very humbling experience, and one that has instigated a great deal of soul searching. But, as I sit amongst my fellow unemployed at the center, I am struck by the number of applicants who I see using iPhones, displaying great nail manicures, high end shoes and clothing, etc. You know, stuff that I can’t afford. And these are the folks actually looking for work. My friend who is a pharmacist for a large, discount retail chain constant fills scripts for people coming in with medicare.state aid cards, sees them buying alcohol, smoking cigarettes, wacky nail jobs, jewelry all over, and the list goes on. Romney is, unfortunately, 100% truthful that there is a sizable segment of the population that thinks they are owed a living, abuse the system, won’t work, etc. Don’t know if it’s 47% or not, and would like to actually see some demographics. And those folks will never, ever vote for Romney or anyone who preaches self-responsibility because they have been generationally institutionalized to depend on the gov’t for everything, and have had any semblance of initiative and the old American “Can-Do” spirit bred out of them.

Kind of ironic the grandson can’t find a job with that kind of lineage, but my recommendation to him is to work hard, sacrifice, and keep at it. I heard more real passion and conviction in Romney’s voice than I have ever previously heard. This is what he believes in his heart and in his gut. The problem with what he believes is that it is full of stereotypical thinking that reflects little in shades of gray, or nuance. Moreover, it reflects a man with a coldness of heart, imo.
Heaven help this nation – and this globe – if this man becomes President of the United States. What is sad is that Gov. Romney divides people into categories, instead of seeing the humanity – within all people – that connects all people. And, he not only divides, he sees with a hierarchial, smallness of vision that some are better than others based on their wealth, which evidently in his thinking, equates to virtue and hard work. Little does he understand that there are millions of people in this nation who work very hard, all of their lives, without making high incomes. What a sad, little person of shallow vision Romney has turned out to be – that that video revealed.
When the consciousness of a people centers on “tit for tat,” instead of simply understanding, those people have been diminished in their thinking, and in their souls. And, people who think in those ways are diminished people, no matter what the status of their wealth is.
I appeal to the American people, and to Southerners, not to elect Mitt Romney as our President. We deserve better

Another biased preamble brought to you by a state government that will do absolutely anything to pry open taxpayer wallets on behalf of their corporate donors, 96% of whom are from out of state and will not have their own children exposed to the schools that result from incompetent legislators meddling in educational matters they are entirely ignorant of. The fact that the Secretary of State owns the ballot language does not entitle him and his handlers to misrepresent truth and use the ballot as advocacy space.
The fact is that charter schools as a whole demonstrate no discernable improvement in student outcomes versus traditional public schools unless part of their charter is the right to sieve through their student population. The ballot language stating otherwise is a lie, and Brian Kemp’s second attempt to push through an initiative based on misrepresentation. Let’s all hope that this effort is no more successful than his twisting of the T-SPLOST preamble was.

Why vote for Romney if he isn’t going to keep giving us welfare like Obama?
I’d be crazy to vote for someone who will reduce taxes on the rich when I don’t pay taxes; it’s just less for me.
I don’t like working very hard and two years of unemployment has been a sweet vacation.
Obama keep the food stamps coming! My subsidized housing is warm and comfy. Why should I pay the actual cost of a Marta ride when the rich all have cars?
The most important thing the government can do is get the standard of living of the poor up to the middle class; so tax the rich and increase welfare.
Cut military, education and most other government spending (other than entitlement). You don’t need an education to get government aid.

Romney is simply agreeing with Obama’s own Story of Julia, where Obama listed out all the ways Julia was dependent on government for everything, and Obama wants more of that. Romney wants less. Nothing really all that special or surprising here.
I’d love to get sneaks at Obama’s private conversations, not that it would matter. He made a widely reported very sexist comment about a female analyst the other day and no one cared. Had Romney made a similar comment, he would be called a misogynist on the front page of every paper in the country.

I think that we will see some very interesting statistics as this election draws nearer and nearer. You will see spins from both sides of the aile. As far as this article is concerned, well, I have always respected this journalist. However, with what he has written here, there is nothing objective in his journalism. At the very least I find his choice of words misleading (”Moocher”) and boarderline irresponsible. So much for tansparency in journalism. But then again, the AJC has never prided themselves for there objectiveness. What I find scary is that we have over 45% on voter rolls that is considered a wash with their federal taxes. Seems to be a conflict of interest. I mean if I owed no federal taxes I am sure I would want the same administration pandering to me that is currently pandering to this 45%.

Unfortunately all I got was a hang up. If this was Jason that discovered this I am not surprised. Jason is about Jason, and they are certainly tried and true blooded democrats. Candidates give their true opinion all the time at these type events. Does anyone remember then-candidate Obama saying to a group of high-dollar donors in San Francisco that he is not surprised that people in Pennsylvania and the Midwest “get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them” (April 2008). If I remember correctly, Obama was being secretly recorded too. These two stories are strikingly similar.
Candidate Obama was pointing out to his supporters that he was likely not going to win those people over. Romney is doing the same thing here. He is being candid that he won’t likely win the vote of 47% of citizens because they don’t pay taxes and are on some form of government assistance.
Obama wasn’t being overly critical, just trying to explain why he was not going to win those votes. Romney is doing the same. The only difference is that the media will point out the fact that Romney says things like this but won’t call President Obama on the carpet for the same thing. This is much ado about nothing, but the media is trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

@MadMax: Actually what he said is that the half of the country that will not vote for him believe themselves to be “victims” and that his message doesn’t matter to them because “they pay no taxes.” To add insult to injury he goes on to say that he is not concerned about this half of America because there is nothing that he can say to them that will “make them take responsibility for themselves.” If you don’t think this guy is out of touch then you’re in a very small minority. Read David Brooks column today and you’ll get it straight from a Republican about how incredibly off-base and offensive those remarks are.

Romney has not made Jimmy Carter look bad. Jimmy Carter did that all by himself. Obama is actually making Jimmy Carter look good in that he is exceeding all the bad policies and decisions that Jimmy Carter did. If Mr. Chipper would release the entire video it would show Romney speaking about the moochers in this country who are going to destroy it because those of us who do pay taxes are not going to be able to carry them forever. Both the Romney comments and Obama’s infamous “clinging to guns and religion” comment were, I recall, recorded at private events and later came to light on a broader scale. Both are candid comments that are in keeping with the point of view of each of these men. Your view as to which is the most accurate statement will drive your vote in November.

It always amazes me that people don’t consider deep tax cuts to corporations as “welfare”. or even another phrase, redistribution of wealth. Yet just a couple of days ago we saw the report where companies right here in GA are sitting on billions of dollars in profits. An economist was told that the corporations are sitting on their money waiting until after the elections.
So while we the people continue to subsidize corporations and call it a good thing, the Repubs want to castigate the citzenry who are on public assistance. Many of them current because of the break we’re giving to corporations who won’t hire anyone. I’ll never forget the hours of debate in our Georgia legislation just last year about giving Delta another $20 billion tax break. You would have thought they supplied Georgians with the air we breath.

og @ 10:40. You know absolutely nothing about my situation, my family, etc., but you automatically blithe on with the same old tired talking points. Just to educate you a bit (a frivolous effort cause you’re mind is set, but nonetheless), I served my country honorably for well over a decade. When I got out, couldn’t find a job, no “experience”, no college degree. So, worked full time, went back to school full time (simultaneously), got the degree, found a better job, then went back to school to get a professional degree while still working full time AND beginning to raise a family. So if I want to give my kids a suv and a trust fun, I sure as he!! have EARNED that right! But, based on how I was raised (hard work, sacrifice, dedication to family, you know, those tired old American values a lot of liberals sneer at these days), my oldest’s first car will be my current one, which has almost 250,000 miles on it. Yeah, she wants the snazzy one, but I want her to know how to start at the bottom and work her way up from there. That way, she’s knows the satisfaction of working to get ahead. In fact, she’s already setting things up to work her way through college and I know if she does her best, she will make it in this world.
Now, go ahead and compare that to the institutionalized generational entitlement recipient (and no, I’m not talking about the disabled, the elderly who don’t have investment income, etc. Just those who grew up on the gov’t dole and refuse to try and leave it). Can’t wait for your most stimulating analysis. I’ll check back in a few. I shiver with anticipation…..

Hmmm, autoworkers. Union ain’t they?), just exactly what is his plan (and please, no standard talking points. +++++++
The sad part is you obviously think like the candidate, which is why this is such a huge issue.
Government assistance comes in MANY forms and for many reasons. I realize that generally speaking Repubs think anyone who received assistance for their daily NEEDS is a slacker. But anyone who continues to thrive in business due to the continuation of their no-bid government contracts are just smart business people. Repubs don’t like business until it gives them something.

Romney’s donors (and Bain Capital) make a living firing people, laying off people, opposing collective bargaining, opposing any increase in minimum wage (even though it is the lowest ever as a percent median/average income), all so big business and the wealthy can have more money to stash in the Caymans and Zurich.
And then they point fingers at the same people because they don’t make enough to pay income tax, and call them moochers and cheats because they are making less money and paying less (or no) income tax.
Just because you are a fat cat donor does not make all of your nonsense true. Or any of it, for that matter.

It’s what I see as pandering to the respective “bases” of each political party. As for me, I think what will be best for this country is for everyone who really wants a job, who wants to open a small business (intelligently and is prepared to do so), etc., has the opportunity to do so, and nothing I see from the Obama administration appears to be geared towards that goal. Obama is a classic Keynesian economist, and at no point in history has an economy based on Keynes’ ever succeeded. Will agree 100% this is perhaps the most pivotal election of our time, and our children’s future will be largely shaped by who gets voted in come November.

Romney promises “fast job growth” if he’s president. Unfortunately, most of it will be in “fast food,” and other similar employment. Then he will tell you what a bum you are for not making enough to pay income tax.
Listen to the video–he does not merely say 47% don’t pay one particular kind of tax (income tax), which is true–he goes on to say, with obvious enthusiasm, that they are also bums.
Real jobs, with real income, for people who want to support a family and pay income tax, will take a little longer. The damage from the Bush era was deep, severe, and structural. Romney wants to rip off the bandage, and cut open the healing wound with a butter knife. So his fat cats can continue to extract their pound of flesh from all of the “victims” with entitlement mentality.

How does not owing income tax mean that these people think the government owes them food and housing. They are paying for their food and they are paying their rent. And their state tax, and Medicare tax, and Social Security tax, and property tax, etc., etc.
If you are poor, you don’t pay income tax. And, it’s a sad commentary that 47% of Americans are probably poor, regardless of what the poverty level is. And don’t blame Obama for that. The impoverishment of the middle class has been going on for decades. Obama is trying to slow it down. Romney wants to accelerate it.

Old man – yawn! Sorry you can’t see the conflict in your last post. If people aren’t working, what do you think they are relying upon to buy food (food stamps), pay the rent (Section 8), and so on. Believe it or not, we conservatives aren’t against everyone who gets gov’t entitlements, doesn’t pay taxes because they don’t earn enough, and so on. But there is a sizable segment of the population that is on the gov’t dole, is capable of working, but relying on the gov’t to give them everything is their way of life, and has been for generations. Kind of reminds me about Romney’s safety net comment back during the nominations. While he didn’t say it clearly, he meant those people who were receiving certain entitlements were not his main concern because they were provided for. But I will take a wild stab and guess you rely mainly on entitlements, or are you buying the lie Romeny want’s to gut social security/Medicare?

Are you seriously going to argue that Romney doesn’t use the term moochers yet very candidly says that this is what people are doing? Now I know exactly where some of the posters here get their “buzz words” and phrases. It must be in the Repub handbook. Romney who won’t show us his returns, but tells us he has not paid less than 13% in income taxes isn’t interested in those who don’t pay any.
Uh, they don’t pay any because just like you only pay what you “legally” have to so do they. Romney admits that he has taken advantage of every possible loophole there is to pay a low percentage and he has offshore accounts in other countries. But wants to discount people who make so little money that they don’t have to pay income taxes as if they not American citizens, merely parasites.

The problem is that a certain segment of society has a narrative already established about what the freeloaders look like (Democrats) however there are just as many freeloaders that are (Republicans). However the Republican freeloaders are ok because they vote against their own best interest. If you get SS, Medicare, Medicaid, or any other government subsidy, you are in essence a free loader.

I an so tired of this whole “Poor people have it SO good” fantasy that gets repeated again and again here. If you really believe that people who receive government assistance are living it up on the public dime, why don’t you quit your job and join the party? The answer is that you probably know deep down that, despite a few superficial trappings of middle-class success like nail jobs, poor people in our society have an unenviable lot, and few of us who know the realities of their existence would trade places with them. It is often difficult to obtain help from the government in the first place, and when it is provided, it is usually the bare minimum required for survival. If you think poor kids should go hungry because their parents “made bad decisions,” why don’t you just come out and say that, instead of trotting out these tired and unsupported “welfare queen” stereotypes?

Leftinthesouth, you are living in that delusional leftist world. The real story is that the Seals got Osama Bin Laden and according to one of them he killed himself. Why should someone that’s 25-26 years old stay on his parents insurance? He should have a job of his own (oh, I forgot, he can’t find a job because of the Obama economy). You apparently made that up about the top Al Qaeda leaders or got that from a pro Democrat site that’s prone to lying like all Democrats do. He also is going to sit on his hands until Iran has a nuclear missile and they are crazy enough to use it. The reason right now that the Muslim world is going crazy is because of him and Biden bragging about killing Bin Laden during their convention. They couldn’t quit reminding everyone of that. The protesters climbing the wall in Egypt were chanting “we are all Osama, Obama” Why would they be saying that about a movie like this amateur administration keeps telling us.

Also, it is a complete discgrace to the men and women to say that Obama got Bin Laden. I have never in my life seen a president risk his life (democrat or republican) to complete a military mission. Yet, Obama continues to take credit for getting obama. Last I say his presidential butt was around a conference table several thousand miles away. LOL, I love ready all of the liberal messages. It’s clear anyone who votes for Obama doesn’t have a clue what they are doing. Like the bumper sticker says, “stupid people shouldn’t be allowed to vote”. I will vote for Romney and I will sleep very well for doing so. But just remember, if Obama wins this election, in four years, you all will be the one’s with the “what the hell happened” look on your face and those of us who voted to make America better will be saying……..say it with me, you can do it…….We told you so!!!
Obama said he would cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term. Hmmm, mission accomplished? NO, he has added at least $5 trillion to it and it’s still climbing. And before you spout off blindly and try to blame the Republicans, let’s not forget that we have a D E M O C R A T I C Senate. Ooops, can’t blame the Republicans, oh darn. Yeah, and about that GM bailout, well zI would like to say you had a hand in that but most of you don’t pay taxes so you can’t take credit for the GM bailout, that falls to us who work for a paycheck. I can assure you we didn’t get our money’s worth out of that loan and will never see a dime of it back either. From a company that can’t even sell “green” cars? Oh yeah, didn’t know about the $50,000 per car subsidy that we are footing for THAT mistake……google it. Educate yourself before you blindly spew things you know nothing about. And some brainiac stated that Romney wants to gut Medicare. LOLOLOL, seriously? Why don’t you ask YOUR President why he has ALREADY gutted Medicare to the tune of $719 BILLION dollars. Yeah, the Obama that YOU voted for and declare you will vote for again, good job, well done. Will you feel good when he guts it even more and tries once again to blame Bush or ATM’s or Las Vegas? Has he taken credit for anything? Hmmm, oh yeah HE killed Bin Laden, forgot about that. Ouch, sorry about that but Romney can’t gut Medicare because Obama already did. What Romney said in that video is true, too many people want hand outs and aren’t willing to work for it. Those people will vote for Obama. Those of us who work hard for what we have, and are proud to proclaim “I did that”, “no one helped me” will proudly vote for Romney/Ryan. God Bless the small business owners of this country, the people that keep this great country going, God bless them, because a vote for Obama is a vote for them to close their doors.

Romney is unqualified for the position of President of the United States. These comments he made to a group of his rich business friends clearly shows how out of touch he is for the top position in America. The President of the United States has to represent everyone in the nation. He cannot block out close to half of the nation as unreachable. This comment also steadfastly establishes his other comment this week that middle class means having a family income of $150K to $250K per year. I guess I just thought I was middle class. Why am I paying any taxes at all? For Mr. Romney’s ignorant mind, I wish to tell him I never made over $65K in all my careers in the Unites States Military and as a teacher. For the idiot’s fact checkers, I have paid taxes every year since I was 16 years old, and that is now over 58 years of honest tax payments to the government. Whatever I get from the government in my older ages, I DESERVE. I paid my dues. I can guarantee that Mr. Romney has not paid fair taxes his entire life. Get over yourself, fool, and go back to the silver spoon life you came from.

The world is full of MOOCHERS. When I turned 64 I went to sign up for Social Security since I had retired from my job. I could not find a parking place and the line was out the door. Not one of those persons was 62 or over. I did not understand that. So I called the office in Birmingham. The lady told me on the phone “Oh those were people trying to disability from Social Security. I was flabbergasted. What, I said. They were running from their cars, standing around talking, joking, etc. None of them was disabled. Some were super fat because they were on food stamps, but none were disabled. I have always wondered why some newscasters refer to Social Security as an entitlement. It is NOT. I have paid into that fund now for 51 years. I still work at 71 on a part time job and pay into the SS fund. It was and is a paid in pension plan. Not much money out of it but it was paid for. I paid for mine. No way any of those lazy jerks paid anything. So the only entitlement is from those trying to draw as disability and never working and paying into the program. That people who don’t make enough money on their 1, 2 or 3 jobs to pay a substantial amount of Federal Income Tax are somehow receiving an ‘entitlement’. If we change the tax system to a consumption tax and tax EVERYTHING consumed, will the robme supporters complain because the taxes paid on their mansions far exceed the taxes the majority of us pay to buy the hovels where we have the audacity to reside?

@Columbus …you like many others on here missed the memo that the Republicans are no longer aligned with the moral majority. Actually never were, just wanted the vote. They have moved on to a new group, the tea partiers, but don’t agree with them either, just want their votes. To believe that people who vote for a Democratic candidate don’t believe in God is insane. Jesus charged us with looking after the poor. I guess what amazes me most of all is your misguided take on poor or struggling individuals. There is a large class of us called the working poor. We go to work everyday, but never get ahead. Where I work, they cut out the custodial staff that was making very little money, but did receive sick and vacation pay and could pay for their health insurance. Now, they have hired an out of state private company who hired half of the former staff, pay them $8.00/hour, they are not allowed to work more than 6 hours a day, no sick leave, no vacation, and their health insurance premiums would take more than they make. Now you are left with hald the staff not hired and eligible for unemployment while hoping to find another job in a state lagging behind most others in the recovery effort, and workers employed by this out of state company now qualify for food stamps and medicaid becasue their wages are so low. So you have taken a group of self sufficient people who had taken responsibility for themselves, paying their own way and taken their job and replaced it with a job that no one could be self supporting in. $240 a week before taxes doesn’t leave enough for food and shelter..And read my lips, we are paying taxes, federal, state, local, and sales. If like so many of you believe that just being Republican magically makes everything better, why is Georgia in such bas shape? Republicans have been in charge for 10 years, it should be the land of milk and honey. Oops, not so fast. That’s just if you are in the inner circle, not just regular folk. I’ve been working at the same job for 23 years, had no raise in 5 years, salary cut the last four years, given an additional job when another employee left 3 years ago, gas and milk are $4.00 a gallon, I’m probably going to lose my home because I can’t afford the payments anymore and I can’t sell it for what I paid for it but the tax assessment I received raised the assessment $112,000.00 ($130,000.00 more than I paid for it).It is disheartening to work 2 jobs everyday and keep losing ground. You crazy people on this right are just hilarious! You want to get all excited about people getting welfare or food stamps because they may have made some bad choices or been dealt a hard blow in life. But you totally ignore the BILLIONS in corporate welfare to companies such as Exxon/Mobil, GE, etc that not only receive government subsidies, but also pay next to nothing if anything in taxes. You also don’t have a problem with billionaires such as Mittens hiding millions of dollars in off short accounts to avoid paying taxes. And you don’t have an issue with American corporations shifting to jobs to other countries to avoid taxes and pay lower wages. But then those people who cannot find a job and need some help…well they are just evil! All of this from the side that claims to be “christian.” That $200 Aunt Sally got last month for food stamps is going to break this country…but that $5 billion Exxon/Mobil got to spend on exploration in Africa is no big deal. You people are the ones who are the danger to this country!

@ConcernedAmerican – here’s the Romney comment on $200K being middle class:
Romney: ‘Middle-income’ is $200K to $250K and less
Romney’s comments came an interview broadcast Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
“No one can say my plan is going to raise taxes on middle-income people, because principle number one is (to) keep the burden down on middle-income taxpayers,” Romney told host George Stephanopoulos.
“Is $100,000 middle income?” Stephanopoulos asked.
“No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less,” Romney responded.
His campaign later clarified that Romney was referencing household income, not individual income.
The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income – the midpoint for the nation – is just over $50,000.

SMH, one thing that you stated that sticks out like a sore thumb. “Taken their job.” Where I work at is not my job. Where you work at is not your job. It is the employer’s job. They place a value on what they are willing to pay someone to perfomr this job. You have an option to either agreee to the value and do the work, or not agree with the value and go somewhere else. I have left several jobs because of disagreement in pay. You should always get paid what you think your services are worth.

What Mitt Romney said was the truth. The moochers will never vote for Romney and therefore there is no reason to cort them. The Atlanta Journal and the Mainstream media are blowing this way out of proportion. He said that in connection with the campaign, he is not concerned with the 47%. He didn’t say that as President of the country he would not be concerned with the 47%. What he said was totally correct.

Ahh you Repubs are funny people. Let’s see Newt touted how clever he was to REFORM WELFARE, even added a have to work piece. Plus the amount of time you can be on is limted. So how then, are people able to claim they are victims and live off of the government? Is it possible that Newt really has nothing to brag about? That his plan isn’t working?
Or maybe it’s this, Newt also said that the President has put more people on food stamps than in history. Are these the people that Mitt is talking about? The people who have lost jobs at different interval over the past four years. Many of whom are still looking. And several on the Federal gov’t dole because the States kicked them off. Are those the people Mitt is talking about? Yeah, they are just lazy and don’t want to work.

Seeing the actual comments as compared to the uproar that the MSM is trying to create is remains me once again of the bias in play. WHAT ROMNEY SAYS IS 100% TRUE!!
Additionally, Gallaway- SHAME ON YOU! You used intentionally inflammatory words to skew Romney’s comments- he did not use those words; they were used to make him look arrogant and heartless.
Romney will NEVER convince those who are taking a free ride that they should vote against a party promising to maintain that free ride.
Several years ago I managed a Middle Georgtia City Council campaign for a friend. Our ward was split almost 50/50 between black and white voters. The black voters had voted over 95% for several election cycles for the black candidate when opposed by a white candidate; we could have poured 75% of our resources into the black precincts and MAYBE we could have reduced that number to 92/93%. Their bias, not mine, made their support unattainable.
However, when the black candidate saw fewer signs and efforts in the black precincts, we became, despite the fact that she spent NOTHING pursuing white votes, RACISTS!
This is NOT to imply that the “moochers” are all black, because they are not. But Romney would be a fool to expect these people to look beyond their own gravy train and support policies that better the entire economy!
Those who pay nothing will continue until they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs- the actual taxpayers.
PS- Again, SHAME ON GALLAWAY! I thought you had more integrity that this- I was clearly wrong.

Columbus: You are a Pharisees, you would have stone the woman at the well to death. Jesus told the Pharisees and those looking on “he that has not sinned cast the first stone, woman go, you have no accurses”. Columbus, you don’t have a Heaven or Hell to put anyone in. Jesus will separate the chaff from the wheat. Pray and ask for guidance dude. Concern yourself with issues that your vote can control. Issues like better schools, health care, and the elderly. Homosexuality, adultery, and lies have been going on since the beginning of time and no political leader will ever change that. Ask the Pious Catholic Church. I’ll leave you with this; God used Rehab who was clearly a sinner, an unclean person, a harlot for years. I’m sure she was a person that YOU and Mitt would not want to be associated with. God can use anyone he chooses – Don’t forget how he used Paul. It’s more than same sex marriage that is going to send “this country to Hell” (I think that what you meant when you said “us”). It’s called Sin and that comes in many forms. Let God do the separating and you show some Love and respect to all mankind until He comes back for you. STOP CONDEMING FOLSKS TO HELL. I know that you are saved, but you are not the only one that knows God. We are all perplexed about God and what the Bible says. Stop pretending that you understand it all.
And for the rest of you folks, I pray that you never have to deal with a situation where you are a very close family member is facing illness and you/they can’t afford to pay for the services, or you lose your job after working 25 years and you can’t find a job and you have to deplete your savings and all that you have worked for is gone. It’s not about the people that are working it’s about those who may be in a bind and need some assistance until they can get it together. All of our lives can change instantly and spiral out of control pull us down in ways we can’t imaging. Think about it…..

There are about 2 million American Citizens on the direct aid program generically known as ‘welfare’ (or previously AFDC). That leaves about 139,000,000 of ‘those people’ that robme is talking about who are either working hard every day, retired, or with some other special reason.

HEY COLUMBUS
I’m not trying to start anything with you, but you need to calm down. As a person of God, you well know the ninth of the Ten Commandments. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. I am afraid that you have made statements that you simply cannot know, without a doubt, to be true. You simply cannot know that every member of the Democratic Party or every person who votes for a Democrat wants God out of society. Unless God, Himself, has revealed this to you, You simply cannot know what you have publicly stated to be true.
That puts you in jeopardy of violating the 9th commandment. President Obama has worked as a lawyer for a law firm and has also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law school. Your assertion that all he has ever done is live off our goverment is false witness. You have beared false witness against him. So now what will you do? I assume a person of your great conviction will have no choice but to do your research, then come back and admit your wrongs.
God teaches us not to worry about anything, particularly our rulers. The bible clearly teaches, the king’s heart is in God’s hand. HE turns it the way HE chooses. Not the way YOU choose. So stop all your ranting. Stop exhibiting a spirit of fear, which God has said He has not given us. The fear that you are expressing did not come from God, so you might want to try to figure out who you allowed to plant it in your heart.
Instead of writing angry, fearful rants you might feel better spending an additional 15 minutes with God. Become familiar with Christian conduct. See what the Bible says about anger, fear and judgment. Try to focus on getting yourself better everyday.
Get out and enjoy life. Enjoy your family. God Bless you, my friend. Let’s talk again.

While Senator Nan Orrick is absolutely correct about distorted words used in preamble describing what Georgian’s are being asked to vote upon, she should not be shocked. Didn’t they do same with T-Splost preamble? And isn’t this campaign being run by same folks who brought us T-Splost? For the same general reason of generating pork for the governing class? The fact that they are resorting to a dishonest description on the ballot simply illustrates that they cannot win if they tell the truth. I hope voters are again wise enough to see through this premeditated distortion as they did re T-Splost.

The system you despise was nonexistent before the 1930’s. It was called the “gilded age” and was really anything but (except for a small percent of the population).
However, in the years following WWII, our federal government (under the direction of Democrat and Republican administrations) looked out at the greatest generation and said to its citizens ‘you served your country well. In response, your country is going to invest in human capital through the GI Bill, in hard capital through the FHA to provide for you and your family moderately priced homes in good communities and neighborhoods where you can send your children to reasonable public schools. And by the way, we’ll build high quality interstates between your homes and these new suburban communities and into the cities where you will be able to actually come in and work and then return to your homes.’Those types of policies of human capital, transportation, and hard capital in the form of housing were very real government based investments into a population and overnight, one generation – 20 years – you have a middle class that did not previously exist.
I am a proud product of these policies. So are you, even if you disdainfully refuse to admit it.

The attitude of the wealthiest one percent reminds me of a bar joke: A middle class worker, a CEO, and an unemployed man walk into a bar, where there are 12 packets of peanuts on a plate. A sign says “Just one please, this is all we have until tomorrow.” The CEO grabs 11 packets, then says to the middle class worker, “Watch out for that unemployed moocher, he’s after your nuts!”
The people who resent the rich not paying enough are NOT the ones who pay nothing (the small minority of poor who pay “nothing” except sales taxes would not CARE if the rich pay or not), but the ones who are paying MORE as a percentage of their income than wealthy people like Rawmoney, and in some cases MORE IN TOTAL, but find their jobs eliminated AS PART OF THE MEANS BY WHICH THE WEALTHY GET WEALTHIER.
For centuries, the victimizing rulers have diverted the anger of their victims to OTHER victims. Blame the elderly retired, the mentally or physically disabled, the students trying to get an education in the hope of making more, the abused women who left everything behind to escape a dangerous relationship, for not being “smart” enough and “hard-working” enough to have a large bank account and avoid public assistance.

Today’s Republican party can only exist through deception – like state lotteries, they prey on the least sophisticated segment of society, who have great difficulty with processing information. Show them an actor portraying the lucky winner, on his yacht, or in his Rolls, and they will piss away half of their paycheck buying lottery tickets. Tell them that anything that prevents the wealthy from making more money, like pesky regulatons, is really bad, because some of that money (in Swiss banks) will trickle down to them, and that sounds very reasonable to them. Tell them that the elderly, poor and infirm are freeloaders, and they(the wealthy), shouldn’t have to contribute to their upkeep, because it will decrease the amount of money trickling down from the Cayman Islands, and that sounds very reasonable.

I wonder if Romney’s “moochers”, in the 47% includes the employees of companies like Walmart who are also receiving benefits because their pay is so low? I’ve travelled from Australia to the USA a couple of times and intend returning next year. I always enjoy visiting as it is a beautiful country and very lucky with its natural advantages. What I can never understand is how the middle class is so reduced, to the advantage of the wealthiest few and Romney’s wealth seems largely to have come from disadvantaging employees. Mind you, we are not perfect – we have the wealthiest woman in the world here and she recently suggested that Australians are overpaid and compared the situation with African miners who she said “are prepared to work for $2 a day”.
I certainly hope that President Obama is re-elected but I think we are all heading in the wrong direction. There is too much self-centredness and greed and working citizens of the wealthiest country in the world should not be reduced to receiving charity to feed their families.

I received an e-mail today from my friend of 45 years from NYC, who asked and answered this question: “Who are the 45% really?” I asked her if I could post that on blogs in Atlanta. She said she would be pleased for me to do so. Here it is:
————————————————-
Who are the 45% really?
The disabled veterans who come home brain damaged or missing limbs? Or damaged by Agent Orange from the VietNam war?
The elderly who depend on Social Security, to which they have contributed all their lives?
The disabled, struck down by injury or illness through no fault of their own?
How about ordinary citizens struck down by bullets from assault weapons carried by psychos who obtained them easily thanks to the efforts of the NRA?
Members of the middle class who worked all their lives with the agreement that part of their job agreement would be a pension which would enable them to live comfortably into their retirement? Many of these pensions were cut by a third, or in half, or outright disappeared by top execs who either grossly mismanaged, or who stole the money to fatten their own pensions and golden parachutes?
Those members of the middle class and working people bankrupted by an unexpected illness, who because of it lose their jobs, health insurance, and then all their money and their homes as they struggle to pay for uninsured care?
Those screwed by insurance companies who claim they had a prior condition? (Romney wants to undo Obamacare)
In Romney’s dog-eat-dog every man for himself and the devil take the hindmost world, no one cares for anyone else. People get fired because it is convenient to ship their jobs to a cheaper venue. And what happens in the countries where labor unions are attacked or destroyed, and where their governments don’t regulate corporations? The recent terrible fire in a Pakistani textile factory, where 300 people were either burned to death, died from smoke inhalation, or dashed to death on the pavement because they jumped out of windows—is what can happen when there aren’t strong unions, strong government regulation of the workplace, and a community that seriously cares about its members.
Romney revealed what he really is. Fortunately.”

Mary Elizabeth Good post- thanks for sharing- Don’t waste your time however trying to share this one with your conservative friends- they have believed the lies of talk radio that the 45-47 % are all moochers- are all useless people who are either communists or socialists. I blame Neal Boouutz and his right wing talk radio cronies more than anyone or anything else for the total inability in DC to get things done through compromise.

Do you libs really think this is going to effect the election? Romney was right. There is a % of this population that will not vote for Romney or any Republican for any reason because they are dependent on government for their day to day existence. There is also a group that will never vote for a Democrat, the religious right. This election is about the 4 or 5% independents and turning out you base to vote.
If you listened to Rush or Sean or Neal today then you would realize that the base is now excited about Romney for the first time. They are not just against Obama but want Romney to win.

One theory about Mitten, is that his arrogance is religious based – the crazy cult he belongs to has convinced him that there’s only a limited number of people who will fit on the space ship, and the infidels left behind are doomed anyway.

Any of the unemployed freeloaders backing Obama and his marxist cohorts should seek work as extras in some of the zombie movies. They would be well qualified since they are already brain dead. Obama was elected by black racists and ignorant whites and if he is reelected it will be by black racists and stupid whites. To vote for or against a person because of his color makes you a racist. To vote for someone whose intent is to destroy this country and make it another socialist loser country is a stupid person. I can see maybe a couple thousand Dumacrat simpletons voting for Obama but for anyone else to vote for this country wrecker is mind boggling. Just look in the mirror and if you still plan to vote against your country you should look for the zombie movie producers and ask for a part because you are BRAIN DEAD.

Somebody needs to point out the fact that the people blogging in support of Romney’s statement would not attend a $50,000.00 a plate dinner. Just so you know, even though he didn’t say it out loud, he doesn’t care about you either.

Not sure why Republicans feel they should type in ALL CAPS AS IF IT PROVES THEIR POINT OR MAKES THEM SOUND SMARTER. It’s about time you guys realize that Romney is a lost cause. Paul Ryan needs to come out tomorrow morning and say I made a mistake, I thought this guy was serious about being President and I didn’t know he was this stupid. But to try to justify what this idiot of a man is saying is in itself idiotic.

You already have people like Bill Crystal and other writers who probably want to slap the crap out of Romney or Carter for exposing it.
