Your morning jolt: Marriage as a license to vote for Mitt Romney

If voters were required to be married, Republican Mitt Romney wouldn’t be sweating the November outcome of the race for president, the Gallup organization says this morning.

Married registered voters prefer Romney over Democratic incumbent Barack Obama by 54 to 39 percent, according to data collected by the polling group this summer:

Nonmarried Americans strongly prefer President Obama to rival Mitt Romney, 56% to 35%; this group includes those who are single, in a domestic partnership, widowed, divorced, and separated. Support for President Obama varies among these subgroups — those who are single (61%), are in a domestic partnership (62%), or are separated (58%) are especially supportive of the president, while the divorced (51%) are somewhat less so, with those who are widowed breaking even.

***
Other Republicans may be critical Mitt Romney for piling on President Barack Obama in the midst of this week’s eruption of protests in the Mideast. But Saxby Chambliss, the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, won’t be one of them.

Said Chambliss in a Thursday interview with Denis O’Hayer of WABE (90.1FM):

”Look, we are less than 60 days out from the election of the next president…This is a heated campaign, and I think it is incumbent upon anybody that wants to be commander-in-chief to speak on matters of national security when times of emergency arise. That’s exactly what Governor Romney did. I won’t even go into what he said, because that part of it is immaterial. The fact is that he gave a response, and his response was very strong.”

At the time, the facts on the ground in Libya were yet to be determined, O’Hayer noted. Should Romney have waited? Chambliss’ answer:

”Well, gosh, that’s what politics is about – and that’s what leadership is about now. I don’t think he was out of line for making a statement. I have more respect for him making a statement, and saying what he said, than frankly, I do for the president, who issued a strong statement and then went to Las Vegas to campaign.”

Larry Peterson of the Savannah Morning News, burdened with the only candidate contest in Georgia with national implications, says U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Augusta, isn’t nearly as proud of his association with President Barack Obama’s 2009 stimulus package as he used to be:

[A]s recently as February, the accomplishments listed on the website included the following:

“Standing with President Obama to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has already brought over $200 million in funding for roads, hospitals, schools, transportation, and housing to communities in the 12th district.”

… So why was the language on the website that touted the stimulus bill dropped from his list of legislative feats?

“The stimulus just wasn’t a high priority issue for this election cycle,” [Barrow spokesman Richard Carbo] said. “We have other matters we would like to talk about.”

I certainly can’t disagree with anything you said! Keep posting; we conservatives are outnumbered here and the libs need all the enlightened comments they get from conservatives

First thanks for the laughs. Secondly how can you be outnumbered when there are a number of alphabet names that spew Repub doctrine? Or is that really you AGAIN?

My final point, it always amazes me that Repubs automatically label a person who opposes their views as a liberal. I don’t consider myself a liberal. I’m a moderate. I also like to think for myself and look up information instead of simply spouting off what some talk show host says. No matter how many of them say it.

If you complain about a lack of substance on the attacks of others post but refuse to address an of their points, you are a liar.

If you are a conservative I am now assuming you are a liar until you prove otherwise.

@Bernie

Mitt Romney, on his own policy webpage, sees lower-class Americans as “Human Capital in a 21st Century Workforce.” He does not see us as people with souls. This plays out in his military policies, his diplomatic strategies, and his non-support of anything sounding like a union. Americans, including the majority of the Republican party, who are not in his income bracket and social sphere will always be a servant-class to him.

Oh OK, DJ. If you say stop, I guess I have to…..too funny. Let’s see, our Libyan ambassador gets brutally murdered, and the mainstream press asks really hard questions of…..wait …. wait…… the guy who isn’t actually president. And ask ….wait…. wait… NOTHING of the guy who is.

No bias here…nothing to see… move along… nothing to see…

I LOVE Romney and his comments once again triggering the Old Media to step all over themselves protecting the chosen one. Every time it happens, more and more normal folks (sorry….DJ, looks like that excludes you and your blinders) realize what a crock the supposed “non-biased” reporting really is.

DD, our president did give a statement when this whole thing started. As for Romney, I think it’s pretty telling that people from the left AND right are giving him grief over his statement. He obviously was thinking of his own political campaign first and foremost, which is why he said what he said.

Keep on whining about “the liberal media.” Again, tell your conservative bretheren to stop doing/saying dumb stuff, and maybe they won’t have to complain.

If you support the superiority of private business but pretend that entertainment venues owned and controlled by said private businesses are inherently anti business, you are a liar.

If you are incapable of self reflection to see the flaws in your own ideology you are a liar.

Liberalism does not require lies to make its case.
Conservatism seems to require the ability to lie to make its case.

Most conservative governments do not end up in revolt.

Conservative governments almost universally provide inferior services to their citizens.

Historically very consecutive governments have lasted hundreds of years.

No state that tolerates lies lasts longer than a few generations.

The ultimate failure of the soviet state came from self deception to the point that when they finally embraced Peristroika it was too late.

Modern American conservatism, and by proxy via Murdoch nearly all modern conservatism on Earth , universally in all democratic European and Asian nations, is self deceptive and incapable of self honesty.

This leads to inevitable collapse.

Modern conservatism cannot accept responsibility for the fall of 2008.

All modern conservatives seem to be liars.

Accusations of saying little whilst saying little makes you a liar.

The president giving a statement doesn’t in any way change the fact that the Media is giving him a pass….and would’ve gone full throat choke on a conservative.

Oh, and btw, I’ll absolutely continue to point it out…because again, anyone with a brain who isn’t completely blinded, can see it. Thus, the ever declining viewership and readership. Insisting on an outcome in the form you desire it does not make the media biased.

Just because you don’t judge the press questions as hard doesn’t mean they aren’t.

Saying someone is blinded just because they don’t see what you see makes you blind.

Relying only on media sources that tell you what you want to hear makes you a liar.

The truth is the truth.

It doesn’t care if you like it.
It doesn’t care if it is convenient.
It doesn’t get angry if you insult it.
It doesn’t go away if you ignore it.
It doesn’t require an atmosphere that promotes lies if you want to advance it.

The consequences of the truth will happen, no matter what you do.

Ignoring the truth in matters of science, health or spirit is almost always disastrous.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound cure.

You cannot prevent anything if you refuse to believe it exists.

If you will lie about small things, you will lie about big things.

No one can change if they will not admit the truth.

Conservative ideology is by and large about resisting truth.

Resisting change can be accomplished by resisting truth.

What I particularly enjoy is watching libs get apoplectic because their traditional ways of shutting up people who don’t agree with them have been destroyed. It was basically “you are wrong, shut up”, and to start calling them names (racist, homophobe, or the ever useful INTOLERANT!!) and expect people to shut up and go away,. And since the media was the “source of truth”, people who in their heart knew they were right, had to go away and shut up.

The internet has changed so much….and the libs are having such a hard time dealing with it. In particular the fact that so many people are realizing that the so called “tolerant ones” are in fact the poster children for intolerance.

Rejection of an argument is not an emotional response.

The internet is not magic. Truth or lies you want to tell yourself are simply more available than they were.

The internet makes it very easy to find someone who will share your lie with you.

Tolerating all races, creeds, religions, sexes and colors does not require tolerance of lies.

I wholeheartedly agree. I find his let’s review all of our options and then decide what to to approach refreshing. So interesting that the Repubs talk about how we’re still in Afganistan, that we’ve given an exit date, and yet continue to try to find ways to get us back into other wars. This “leading from behind” crap and warhawk mentality is getting on my nerves.

The Repubs constantly claim we are a Christian nation, yet the most they will do if offended is send a bunch of emails complaining about how is being pushed out of our country. No Repub president has attempted to reverse Roe v Wade. And based on many message boards, they would just assume shoot you than pray for you. The hypocrisy sometimes overwhelms me.

But when people actually take their religion seriously; who don’t put it down when it’s inconvenient and revere their prophets we want to get bent out of shape when they react. I’m not saying that killing is the answer. I’m simply saying that they are more honest, more dedicated to their beliefs than many of the Christians in this country.
