Obama’s message tonight: ‘I won’t pretend the path will be quick or easy’

Below are excerpts from President Barack Obama’s speech tonight, accepting the Democratic nomination for his re-election, that were just released. From the looks, FDR and his long slog through the Great Depression will be one theme. I’ve marked in bold some of the more interesting lines:

“But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation. Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs and the economy; taxes and deficits; energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children’s lives for decades to come.

“On every issue, the choice you face won’t be just between two candidates or two parties.

“It will be a choice between two different paths for America.

“A choice between two fundamentally different visions for the future.

“I won’t pretend the path I’m offering is quick or easy. I never have. You didn’t elect me to tell you what you wanted to hear. You elected me to tell you the truth. And the truth is, it will take more than a few years for us to solve challenges that have built up over decades.

“It will require common effort, shared responsibility, and the kind of bold, persistent experimentation that Franklin Roosevelt pursued during the only crisis worse than this one. And by the way – those of us who carry on his party’s legacy should remember that not every problem can be remedied with another government program or dictate from Washington.

“But know this, America: Our problems can be solved. Our challenges can be met. The path we offer may be harder, but it leads to a better place. And I’m asking you to choose that future. I’m asking you to rally around a set of goals for your country – goals in manufacturing, energy, education, national security, and the deficit; a real, achievable plan that will lead to new jobs, more opportunity, and rebuild this economy on a stronger foundation. That’s what we can do in the next four years, and that’s why I’m running for a second term as President of the United States.”

“But when all is said and done – when you pick up that ballot to vote – you will face the clearest choice of any time in a generation.”

I definitely agree with Hussein here!

“Over the next few years, big decisions will be made in Washington, on jobs”

Yes, with your admitted 8.3% unemployment (actually much higher!), fewer jobs available now than when you assumed office even though there are many more people in the work force, big decisions are in order. The answer is NOT hiring more people for government jobs as has been done by you!

“and the economy, taxes and deficits”

Do you mean the economy that is not improving? In the area of taxes, you have made your case for class warfare and one would assume that you would encourage more of the same. You should be able to qualify as an expert in the area of deficits! You’ve had four years and you have shown us only trillion dollar deficits and $6 trillion in additional indebtedness.

“energy and education; war and peace – decisions that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children’s lives for decades to come.”

More ‘green’ energy? Haven’t you paid off enough of your friends and contributors with our taxpayer dollars?

We didn’t elect you to do virtually NOTHING to help the economy. Four years missing in action can not be excused away. You did not keep your promises from 2008, why should we believe that you will do what you promise now. Time to try someone else. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results this time is insanity.

Wow! I’m reminded of how ignorant my home state is, as Georgia is a solid ignorant GOP-TP vote. Of course we are a leader in illiteracy…the local papers don’t even review books, or arts, and we don’t teach civics or economics in our poorly funded schools. ANd the locals get their ‘inflamation’ from hate radio hucksters.

No wonder we’re a GOP stronghold. All my ignorant lottery ticket buying hilljack buddies think the right wing zealots that shout the loudest have all the answers. They haven’t figured out the richest elites have corrupted government to serve the elites, and screw the working class.

The racist bigoted ignorant want to prostate themselves to some rich crowd that can trickle down on them. Look for Georgia to vote for born-into-elitism frauds like Romney-Ryan that bets money against America, invests money in Communist China and other competitors, and shamelessly presents a tax policy that zeros the taxes on the rich, while stiffing these GOP-voting ignorant wage slaves.

Romney has likely put more debt on the books of American companies than any person in history–look at the ‘rith-me-tick you hicks, and tell me private equity debt-funded takeovers make jobs. How dumb are you?

Georgia will continue to lead in stupid, as it has for the three score years I’ve been here. I laugh at these zealots…the only thing more funny than these rich-kissing GOP-Tea Party minions is that Ralph Reed has such sway over them. Praise the Lord, and arrest Christ if he tries to chase the money changers from the Temple…

I don’t think my fellow racist bigot Obama haters will

sure sure, we’re going to give this synchophant 4 more years of time for him to “blame, blame. blame” but not do. He’s the elected leader, for pete’s sake, who’s demonstrated again and again he’s incapable of leading–he can only blame. A true leader leads, influences, encourages, and gets things done. Reagan faced a divisive congress but was still able to work w/ the opposition in spite of huge political differences. Barry Soetoro Obama only knows the blame game

You’re absolutely right! It is sad that black people will vote for Obama simply because he is black. Obama supports homosexual marriage and abortion, and those two evils are not part of the beliefs held by most black folks. Can you call that anything other than racism? I think not . . .

The Secret Service is looking into an incident where a New York delegate at the Democratic National Convention said she would “like to kill” Mitt Romney if she ever sees him.

Why is it that anyone that disagrees with or thinks Obama has been a failure is supposed to “put your white hood back on” or take your racist opinions elsewhere?? The man has had 4 years to try his “Hope and Change” and it hasn’t worked. Unemployment has not declined. More people today on welfare than when he took office. He has created more debt than any previous president in a 3 1/2 year timespan. His stimulus stimulated nothing. He pushed through legislation for 2 years when Dems controlled Congress, and nothing has worked. He has had 2 pieces of legislation tried in the Supreme Court. He has no respect for the constitution and wants to apologize to the world for American ways. He wants to make sure that achievers help raise up the non-achievers. Forget about “hard work pays off”. He wants the federal government to pay off when you fail to achieve. Does he really have what’s best for this country at heart?? Does he really represent American dreams??

Re-elect me for another 4 years and I will do my best to finish my agenda of destruction of the free capitalist system of the USA! The USA must be brought down to the status of any other third world scum socialist nation. And those of you who earn a modest wage, and those middle class wage earners, you just do not understand my agenda, BUT, you will when I raise your taxes and other costs! It is you who believe in my lies, my agenda, my socialist policies. Well, sorry for you, you will also be put through the meat grinder that I have determined the successful must be put!
In short, I believe that the government must control absolutely everything, take all your money , then your assets, then your retirement and 401K so that I can”spread it around” since it is not fair that you have planned and saved and others have not! Therefore, I will give the majority of yours to them!
