TAMPA — Some passages from Ann Romney’s speech tonight about her husband Mitt, who just officially became the Republican nominee for president:
”I read somewhere that Mitt and I have a ‘storybook marriage.’ Well, in the storybooks I read, there were never long, long, rainy winter afternoons in a house with five boys screaming at once. And those storybooks never seemed to have chapters called MS or breast cancer.
“A storybook marriage? No, not at all. What Mitt Romney and I have is a real marriage.”
This is a likely closing passage:
”This is the man who will wake up every day with the determination to solve the problems that others say can’t be solved, to fix what others say is beyond repair. This is the man who will work harder than anyone so that we can work a little less hard.
“I can’t tell you what will happen over the next four years. But I can only stand here tonight, as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an American, and make you this solemn commitment:
“This man will not fail.
“This man will not let us down.
“This man will lift up America!”

How refreshing that Mrs. Romney is not receiving the kind of nasty public criticism of her genetically-determined physical attributes the way Mrs. Obama did four years ago.
I guess you did not watch MSNBC and Rachel Meadows and her co-horts after the speech last night.

Those who like to blame Bush and claim that “the recession itself was caused by the previous administrations’ abandonment of the government’s regulation of the financial industry and that President Obama’s repeated attempts to bring about recovery have been thwarted by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives”.
Let me remind you that during the first two years of President Obama’s tenure, the Democratic Party had control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
With control of both the Senate and the House, he had both the opportunity and the power to:
1. Eliminate the Bush Tax Cuts;
2. Pass a robust jobs creation and economic recovery plan to put an end to the great recession;
3. De-fund the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and bring all the Troops home;
4. Resolve the Student Loan Crisis;
5. Implement the Buffet Rule to pay down the national debt;
6. Adequately fund Medicare and Social Security and reform them so that they would remain
solvent for our children;
7. Raise taxes on Big Oil including an excess profits tax;
8. Make outsourcing of American Jobs illegal or make it such a tax disadvantage that corporations
would no longer do it;
9. Reform immigration laws and give amnesty to children of illegal immigrants through the
legislative process.
Did he do any of this? No. He spent his first two years blaming Bush for the problem rather than doing anything to solve the problem.
He failed us all when passed up the opportunity to seize the initiative and take advantage of having complete control of two of the three branches of Government to do great things for our country.
By doing so he has earned the right to be a one-term President.

Rojo Jones – “bash his opponent’s spouse”…or you mean the way they did Michele Obama and STILL bash her? Riiiiight….Ann Romney is as fake and entltled as her stiff suit spouse with the brillo cream hair. Didn’t that stuff go out in the 60’s? They’re both so out of touch ONE of them should know that greasy, slicked hair is not attractive. But he’s a greaseball anyway – slick and slimy to the core.

Ask ANYbody who lives in Massachussetts and they’ll tell you how despised Mitts was. Why won’t he run on his record as Governor? He only talks about Bain. You repubs should be using THAT experiece in Mass as a talking point but you know as well as all us “libs” he did a crappy, lousy job at the ONE political office he’s ever held. Why? Why? Why? will none of you RepubliKLANS talk about his experience as governor? snicker…

Mrs. Romney didn’t need tele-prompters. She looked the camera staight in the eye: Character shows up in small ways too. I enjoyed her message and I enjoyed the S.C. Governor’s message. Maybe there’s hope for us after all.
+++++++++
Are you kidding me???? You really believe that woman didn’t rehearse that speech ad nausem to get it right? Several commentators mentioned how this was the biggest audience she would ever stand before. I can pretty much assure you that she had a teleprompter. She did a good job, but unless you were actually there, you can’t assert that she didn’t use a teleprompter any more than I can say that she did. By the way, using one doesn’t diminish what you say. It just keeps you on point.

Served in the military? When did that become a requirement? Neither Obama nor Clinton served, and neither did the majority of our current federal lawmakers. During the Vietnam Conflict an undergraduate “C” average kept your student deferment and the draft ended in 1973. Between 1973 and 1989 there was little incentive to join: Viet Nam-era vets were poorly treated, funding for the services decreased and there was no conventional threat to US security other than the “cold war” hence the lack of military experience among our lawmakers. I say this as a 20 year Air Force career veteran who suffered through the ignominy of the Viet Nam era. Things changed in the late 80’s and early 90’s when a direct threat to the US was perceived and understood by the general populace and culminated in the 9/11 attacks. Military service was again embraced as it had not been since WWII and the question of a commander in chief that had not served his or her country became a resume requirement. It may be desirable, but certainly not required.

My hope is that when Romney is elected President he will do the job that people elected him to do. Ever since the celebrity and chief currently hanging out in the White House started his term it’s been dinners with the famous, golf, fund raisers, golf, vacation, golf, fund raisers, white house dinners with rappers, golf, vacation, fund raisers, golf, basketball games, sporting events, ESPN to fill out his brackets and so on. Has this free loading tourist ever put in a full days work?? This dude has been acting like he’s been on vacation for 3 1/2 years. Perhaps if he spent a portion of his time dealing with real issues in fixing this economy intead of be re-elected the U.S. wouldn’t be in such horrible shape.

I am so pleased everyone has stopped spreading rumors about Ann Romney and Shamus the dog. With this kind of civility,both sides can come together. Why, I would bet two dollars that if both sides just sat down and had a beer together, they could work out their difference like good old friends. Both sides are really just the same deep down when you look at it.

Normally those individuals that are successful typically have the income that reflects that success. I guess we would rather have the current President remain in office due to his successful record as a community organizer? As far as his record goes since being in office…………………………………………………………NOTHING! Let’s elect someone who can really bring a change. A change back to what America is really like and not what a socialist country is like.

Let me speak for myself and I believe a few others to the Repubs folks on this board. First it ticks me off that you think you can put all Dems in one box and define us. Dems do not hate rich people. You slam the wealthy actors/actresses who support the President, so obviously being wealthy is not an issue with Dems. Dems want, and strive for success just like Repubs.
I get sick of the lie that Dems merely want handouts or want to give handouts to other people without the benefit of work or some effort on their part. Unless of course you’re a corporation (which we have been told are people) then corporate welfare is ok for Repubs. Tax laws that allow you to dodge paying higher taxes is ok too. But heaven forbid you take advantage of a tax credit based on the number of children you have. You are a freeloader. Call it a loophole. If you don’t like it change it. Isn’t that what you say about the ones that give the wealthy advantages?
Dems (I) do get ticked off when Repubs do things that vastly give the wealthy more advantages and leverage over others who are struggling to become as successful or to even live a simple moderate life. I also abhor the notion that many Repubs seem to have that they “did it on their own” without the assistance of anyone else. And finally, it bugs the heck out of me when being compassionate and caring about the welfare of other Americans is seen as socialism.
My final thought. I almost find it fascinating that Repubs constantly use terms like libs, libatards, and question the intelligence of anyone who thinks differently than them. It’s virtually impossible for them to have an honest discussion before resorting to the name calling. Will your heads explode if you don’t call people names?

I hope those who lean left realize that a person can disagree with the POTUS for reasons other than race. For those of you still stuck on racism, by chance did you read the recent interview with Morgan Freeman about racism? Didn’t think so.
I don’t like Obama because of his economic policies, or rather lack of, his constant attempts to divide this country along economic, racial, social, etc. lines, and his pandering to the Islamic world (like his peec about how islam has always been part of the American experience) at the expense of our long time ally, Israel. And no, I won’t respond or even acknowledge any more racism, racist, whitey kkk GOP, etc. comments.

Shame on you for making fun of her underwear! She is a working housewife and probably has a servant pick it up. We all need to be more nice to each other. Ann has raised five very lovely boys who are nothing like their father and she can be an inspiring figure to all of us about a struggle against a debilitating health issue. She is a very special lady. She is especially good at making us see a better side of mitt than the one he presents whenever he is alone on camera.
