From the Associated Press:
COMMERCE, MI — Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney Friday raised the discredited rumor that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States and thus ineligible to be president.
The presumptive GOP nominee, joined for a rally outside Detroit Friday by running mate Paul Ryan, joked that he had been born in a nearby hospital and that “no one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. ”
The president’s reelection campaign swiftly responded that Romney was directly enlisting himself in the discredited “birther movement” and that “should give pause to any rational voter,” said Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt.
Obama has been dogged throughout his presidency by question about his birthplace. He released a long form copy of his birth certificate last year, showing he was born in Hawaii in 1961.
Romney grew up in Michigan and his father, George Romney was a popular governor of the state.
Last week, Obama got in a quip about Romney’s long-ago practice of transporting the family dog on the roof his car. So now they’re even?

Mitt Romney is Sarah Palin in pants
Of all the idiotic and, yes, race-based thing for Romney to say, this one wins top prize.
The transformation from moderate republican to fright-fest Tea bagger is complete.

Alabama grad here, chuckling that almost every AJC poster with an auburn name in their tagline has borderline racist/right wing views. Not surprised but chuckling nonetheless at the predictibility of it.
I am a Bama grad and had the priviledge of voting for Reagan twice. Not racist, just trying to get my country back

What Mitt meant was the unsaid general assumption: “Of course no one asks for my birth certificate. I am white, so I must be an American, see?”
Aptly tells what’s wrong with Arizona’s SB 1070, Georgia’s similar law and so on: the assumption “Of course he’s brown, so he must be an illegal alien – until proven otherwise. So he better carry his papers at all times, even if he is a US citizen – just in case, so that he may avoid himself being thrown in. And if he’s a naturalized citizen, in which case a passport may be the only document that proves his US citizenship, then he better carry his passport at all times, even though a US citizen may not be required to even own a passport while living in his own country, or at any time except when living in a foreign country.
So, a naturalized brown US citizen is required to possess a passport to live in Georgia and Arizona. Looks like these two states officially seceded from the United States and became “foreign countries” for him.

“Governor Romney has embraced the most strident voices in his party instead of standing up to them.
It’s one thing to give the stage in Tampa to Donald Trump, Sheriff Arpaio, and Kris Kobach. But Governor Romney’s decision to directly enlist himself in the birther movement should give pause to any rational voter across America.”

I understand his college records have finally been released and they show that he got foreign aid and that his real name was (or is ) Barry something. If this is true why doesn’t Romney use this information??

No time for crybabies
Don Abernathy – It’s funny because the GOP is always crying like Momma’s boys that Dems are trying to distract voters and then Romney brings up the birther issue again. Sad that they have to sink to these levels because they can’t run on their policies that Americans object to like forcing women to have the child of their rapist that has Americans outraged.
Just like the schoolyard bully, Republicans cannot handle being hit back.

“For centuries, the battle of morality was fought between those who claimed that your life belongs to God and those who claimed that it belongs to your neighbors — between those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of ghosts in heaven and those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of incompetents on earth. And no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good is to live it.,,You will win when you are ready to pronounce the oath I have taken at the start of my battle — and for those who wish to know the day of my return, I shall now repeat it to the hearing of the world: I swear — by my life and my love of it — that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine” John Galt 1957

The world is an expansive place where people speak multiple languages, and strive to understand other cultures. Confining points of view into “left” and “right” as you insist, is about as enlightened as using a rotary phone. No, you are not so smart after all. I always keep an open mind, other peoples points just never carry the logical weight sufficient to change my mind. There is only one morality…enlightened self interest..that makes rational sense. Only one moral economic system..Laissez Faire capitalism. Rationality trumps sentimentality always. I thank the blessing of my high IQ that I have always used logic to decide what it correct and what if incorrect, and not something as unpredictable as emotion.

@ zeke – really, that’s awesome research dude. Ayn Rand O’Connor took Social Security and Medicare when she was elderly. While administrated by the government, these are programs that she definitely paid into, as she had income. So technically she took the money the government had been socking away for her, for HER rainy day. Just because the government took it and administrated it, does not make it less her money. I love the spin of how she took it under an assumed name…as in her MARRIED name. Ooooooh, heavy conspiracy dude.

“Paul Ryan says that he read her books as a youth but was not influenced by her. In April, he gave an interview to National Review in which he repudiated Rand entirely. In the interview, he called reports of his adherence to Rand’s views an “urban legend” and said that he was more deeply influenced by his Roman Catholic faith and by Thomas Aquinas.”

Frankly Mr. Ryan’s affinity for Ayn Rand is much less concerning than Mr. Obama’s affinity for the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. One is an idealist, one is a hate monger.

Romney has just slapped Obama across his face with his own birth certificate and is now challenging Obama to either put up or shut up. And what does Obama do, he runs away with his tail between his legs, hollering ‘racism’ rather than try and bring his two phony birth certificates into court — pathetic!
If Obama wanted to put an end to this charade, he could have done so on any number of occasions by simply bringing his real birth certificates in to court. But that’s not his game. His game is to stoke the dying embers of racism in this country so he can use it for his own political gain, as you see it being played out here in these posts.
