Of gays, lesbians and an electric fence in North Carolina

Below is a clip of the anti-gay sermon by the Rev. Charles Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., that’s whipping around the Internet via YouTube:

Look, it doesn’t matter what you think of gay marriage or Barack Obama. Should it ever come to pass, the inside of the Reverend Worley’s electric fence will be the only side to be on. And it’s a sin that anyone should have to say so.

“I am sure they many and they are welcome as long as they do not try to change the platform to allow gay marriage or to accept abortion.”

You mean like most churches changed the platform on divorce???

Divorce is a CHOICE!

“Yes, because everyone knows Jesus loved the rich and hated the poor, just like Republicans.”

Total BS and you know it. There are just as many rich Dems as there are Rich Republicans.

Yes I am sure Jesus would support a party that believes it is the governments role to take care of the poor and to enable the poor to not take any responsibility for their own actions. WRONG.

Now that’s funny! This guy was a hoot!! If the Baptist church or any church for that matter, (Catholic, Methodist, etc.); are so worried about homosexuals why don’t they get those in-the-closet-preachers and/or priests out of their churches?!!

This whole thing is just one big crazy lie! They’ll follow someone who’s a child abuser/pedophile/pederast, allow them to stand in their pulpit and “preach/teach the word of Christ”, and afterwards molest their children!

Just one big crazy lie!!

Let’s all hope the media continues to focus on this church because the sheeple just love to hate gays and it distracts them from the real problems like our economy is horrible, we’re spending at a rate far higher than they did/do in Greece and that country is financially circling the drain, unemployment rates are falling even though there is little hiring because the labor participation rate is also dropping (i.e. more people are just giving up), and we’re still shoveling money to OPEC as fast as we can. Do you think we can have him preach against abortion once this media storm dies down to continue distracting voters from real issues?

I know I am not to question anyones faith but it is hard for me to fathom how anyone can call themself a Christian and a democrat. The two views about the world do not mix.

Well we know that you’re a hypocrite and a false Christian because you’re a Republican. You know the type… the ones that accuse others of sinning, but are caught trying to have homosexual sex in airport mensrooms, the ones that are against adultery, but are caught with prostitutes like David Vitter. You know the type, the ones that call women sluts, but are so addicted to OxyContin that they become borderline deaf because of their drug addiction. You know the type… the ones that start wars that kill innocent women and children because of phony ‘weapons of mass destruction’. How anyone can call themself a Christian and a Republican is beyond comprehension. Either that, or they’re a liar and a hypocrite. You decide…

As we all know, Jesus Christ, like conservative Christians was in favor of making sure the rich paid a lower marginal tax rate than under Clinton and just constantly talked about how much he hated gay people and people who disagreed with him.

Why? What version of the Bible have you been reading? King James was a pro-sodomite socialist, as we all know.

So preaching about morals and values should not be done from the pulpit? Talking about how our leaders feel about morals and values should not be talked about from the pulpit? If you think this then what is allowed to be talked about from the pulpit?

The funny thing is, when was the last time you heard someone like James Dobson or Ted Haggard speak on FoxNews about how important helping the poor is. I am pretty sure Jesus talked a lot more about that than abortion and gay sex. Then again, Jesus Christ has very, very little to do with contemporary Christianity.

I remember back in the early 60s with the Johnson and Goldwater election. I was very young then and my parents were Goldwater supporters. A young woman told me that Goldwater wanted to put a fence around the US to protect is from outsiders. It sounded so outlandish. Funny how things turned out.

I did not say anything about what should or should not be preached from a pulpit.
I simply pointed out the fallacy that you consistently maintain as fact, that churches and preachers do not engage in politics.

Your comment about Christians and democrats highlights that most effectively.

as someone said before, how many people choose to be gay? they choose to come out of closet, but the ones i have known well enough did not choose to be gay. i think it is genetics, but maybe nurture has something to do with it too. but if we take them at their word and agree they did not choose to be gay, then what? again, as some said previously, who in their right mind would choose to be in a group villified and ridiculed? and all this trouble and travail in the world because someone ate an apple?i believe there is our creator and i try to follow the golden rule, but i am amazed at many of our fellow human beings…of course they are probably amazed at me too.

I sin daily and fall short of the glory of God. Anyone that tells you otherwise is just a big liar.

The difference is that I know this and try as hard as I can to not sin and then when I do I ask for forgiveness. I know that one day I will have to answer for everyone of my sins and want to minimize the disappointment God will have in my actions.

The real question is will you try to minimize the disappointment or will you stand before God one day and be proud of your behavior?

Mark 10:21-22 Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said, “You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” When he heard this, he was shocked and went away grieving, for he had many possessions.

Has been revised, the New Republican Bible says…”"You lack one thing; go, sell what you own, and give the money to a job creator, and you will have oatmeal in heaven; then stay away from our glorious churches. For our rich need gold, and diamonds, Tiffany’s credit cards, and car elevators.”

As of matter of fact no I haven’t contacted SBC but that is a wonderful idea! I think I will do just that! However, to say that because I haven’t already then I am part of the problem is stretching it a bit. I haven’t done it because I have been so angry with what he said that I didn’t think about contacting anyone like that. However, I did share it with my Pastor and told him how sick I am over this mans words and how my heart breaks for those that believe that ALL Christians are like that because then they miss the REAL story of my Jesus! I’m not one that makes those kinds of calls to the SBC, but Thank You for making the suggestion! Really!! See, we CAN learn from each other. Christians are still people, they make mistakes and they say some really STUPID things, and many are misguided. Trust me, they WILL stand before God one day and I would hate to be them when God asks them why they are using HIS name in relation to such hatred! (it WON’T be pretty!)

“You can not hold up being Christian at the same time you support the legalization of sin” Interesting perspective and how does that reconcile with the Jesus admonishion to “render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar’s” given that The Consitution with it’s guarantees of freedom and equality are in the civil sphere (i.e. Ceasar’s realm) rather than the church (”render unto God that which is God’s”)? Gay marriage isn’t about forcing religious institutions to marry gay couples, but about legal equality since gays can already have religious ceremonies. I also don’t fully understand Republican objections to marriage equality since the route taken has been laws and consitutional amendments regulating personal, private behaviors which is in direct opposition of their belief in less government and sets precedents for targeting specific minority groups with legal restrictions…watch out fringe Christians…the majority could be gunning for you NEXT.

Luke 14:12-14 He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

Has been revised, theNew Republican version… He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite the evil poor who seek government handouts, you will never get repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the rich, the privileged, and the white. And you will be blessed, because they can repay you, for you will be repaid by a private equity firm. Do not dine with the stinking poor.”

Why is there still discussion as to whether homosexuality is a choice or genetic? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biology_and_sexual_orientation

While we can’t point to a sexual orientation gene there are enough studies and evidence (see the link above which mentions numerous ones) to provide that the genetics and physical brain structures of homosexuals are different than heterosexuals. While God and The Bible don’t cover genetics is it fair to declar homosexuality a sin if one is born that way? If yes, how do you reconcile that with God being infallible and all humans are his reflection? Either God intended people to be gay or He isn’t perfect.

Personally I think God intended people to be gay and the real test is how the heterosexuals treat them by living up to the directs of the golden rule and to love others as you love yourself.

You yourself made it known it’s going viral, the amount of writing you’ve done yourself here is minimal compared to your usual drivel, and most people don’t take this seriously so rabble-rousing can be your only possible motivation here. I am a Christian, I am a republican, and I have ZERO problem with gays, or gays getting married. There are many more out there like me. How about putting some effort into your next one Jimbo? I am gay and I know that there are PLENTY of awesome churches that do not judge, do not hate, do not discriminate against and abuse gay people. This “preacher” is not one of those Christians. He represents a teeny tiny minority of so-called Christians who use religion to bash others and distort the Bible to fit their narrow agenda of hatred.. When this man stands before God at the end of his days, I hope he is prepared for the outcome. And if you support this man and his agenda of violence, then you are not a true Christian. And to those churches who work hard to lift people up and respect people no matter who they love, I thank you.
