Of gays, lesbians and an electric fence in North Carolina

Below is a clip of the anti-gay sermon by the Rev. Charles Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., that’s whipping around the Internet via YouTube:

Look, it doesn’t matter what you think of gay marriage or Barack Obama. Should it ever come to pass, the inside of the Reverend Worley’s electric fence will be the only side to be on. And it’s a sin that anyone should have to say so.

And for all those who decry being painted with the same brush as the lunatic preacher, your protestations would carry much more weight if you DEMANDED that the SBC leadership issue a clear and loud denouncement of the buffoon in NC.

I love his supposition that if all gay men and lesbians could be rounded up and put into a fence that they would die off because they can’t reproduce. He apparently is not aware that gays come from heterosexual parents and would simply replenish themselves in due time.

I don’t consider his words as just sad. I consider them horrifying as well as untruthful. His variety of preaching is the BIG reason I have nothing to do w/religion! I treat others as I want to be treated and that is with respect and courtesy!

This church does not represent Baptist churches. The media continues to try to keep the gay subject in the lime light in hopes of switching Christians to their pro gay side. The Bible is VERY clear on this subject. Homosexuality is a sin because GOD says it is a sin. We will love the gays but hate their sin just as God hates their sin. We will NEVER compromise God’s Word no matter what the cost..

“The Bible is VERY clear on this subject.”

And 65% of the world’s population think the bible is a mixture of fairy tale, revisionist history and general hogwash.

It’s nice to be in the majority once in a while.

Don A.–Would “loving the gays” include allowing marriage equality when it comes to things like income tax, Social Security, hospital visitation, etc.?

You could still hate the sin if you want, just don’t punish the sinner. You can just let god make that call.

It appears that Rev Worley has had some spiritual growth!

He said this in 1978…”"Forty years ago [gay people] would’ve hung, bless God, from a white oak tree!”

Now he just wants to round up the “queers” and put them in concentration camps.

For those of you that are saying that all Christians believe like Worley, it is fairly obvious that you have not visited any church at all or you would know that this man is in the minority! I think it is pretty narrow minded to believe all Christians agree with him as much as all white males are like Timothy McVeigh. Funny how many of you seem to know so much about what “we” believe yet when someone tries to tell you they are a Christian and do not agree with that man, you say something rude and basically call them liars. You want people to open their minds about you……maybe you could start at home. I love people….period……I am not judging them or their decisions!! I have sins in my own life, who am I to judge another? I may or may not agree with homosexuality but that doesn’t matter……I love everyone for WHO they are not WHAT they are!!

It’s way past time for Christians to stand up and voice their opposition to hate, persecution, and general ugliness…such as the filth this so-called reverend preaches. I don’t believe that most Christians believe what this joker believes. However, if Christians want to be thought of as something other than hate-mongers, they really need to denounce this sort of thing loudly and frequently.

“The Bible is VERY clear on this subject.”

Don, Jesus was even clearer about divorce. How about this Don,

The Bible is VERY clear on this subject. Divorce is a sin because GOD says it is a sin. We will love the divorced but hate their sin just as God hates their sin. We will NEVER compromise God’s Word no matter what the cost..

Divorce is a CHOICE! Jesus said divorce is only allowed in the case of infidelity. Over 50% of all Christian marriages end in divorce. That means there is an awful lot of adultery going on in Christian marriages. Those that divorce without adultery are equally defying the Bible. There are also rules for remarriage that are now completely ignored by the church.

Has anyone ever used the “love the sinner, hate the sin” line on a divorced family member or friend? A lot of married couples say their vows in a church which includes “until death do us part.”

Gays should fear the Bible when Christians start to fear it.

This is somewhat similar to what I have been saying, just lots more cruel. I was thinking since maybe all the Northeastern states(plus CA and Iowa) have gone for gays marrying, they could all be cordoned off in that area by a fence separating them from the rest of the country. Somewhat like what was done in the leprosy colonies years ago. CA doesn’t matter as they will soon fall into the Pacific when the next earthquake comes along, and Iowa will repeal it next election. They have already kicked the 3 judges off the bench who rammed it down their throats. Maybe all gays and lesbians, etc. could move to the Northeast, and we will all be happy. I know one thing, it will NEVER EVER happen in the South! That’s a guarantee!

These christianists think if they put a cross on their hatred, thuggishness, and ignorance they can promulgate any filth and stupidity they want. They don’t even get taxed for it.

And, let’s face it – virtually all evangelicals are guilty of versions of this “reverend”s” “thinking” – evangelical Protestants and Catholics think they are superior to the rest of us because they can (mis)quote the supposed divine revelations in the 4000-year-old ramblings of desert goat-herders to justify their primitive, willful stupidity and self-loathing.

Putting aside the narrow-minded hate this man spews for a moment, I do hope everyone sees the ignorant fallacy in his “strategy”. If you put all the lesbians in one pen, and all the gay men in another, they’ll die off and the world will be rid of ‘them’ because…why exactly? Does he think gay people come from gay people? Most of the gay people I know are the children of straight parents. That’s how that biology works, Preacher Man.

But of course, you’re a little behind, after all your planet is only 6000 years old, rather than millions like the one the rest of us live on.

What you described/tried to explain is EXACTLY what was done to Rev. Jeremiah Wright. I agree with you that he probably gave this over-the-top example to his congregation because he believed they would undestand exactly what he was saying. Problem is, to the outside world there is no filter and everything said is taken at face value.

The only difference between a believer and a non-believer is that the believer knows he struggles with sin and needs redemption whereas the non-believer is too proud to admit he is a sinner. Bash away now if it makes you feel better about yourself.

I’ve also seen people with AID. Some so weak they could hardly move. I didn’t see their flesh falling off of their bodies. By the way, if this is God’s wrath on gays, how come there are babies who are born infected. I had a friend who contracted it from her new husband. She wasn’t gay.

Try thinking for yourself sometimes instead of simply repeating assinine thoughts from other people.

Where is the politics? Homosexuality and I think he also mention “baby killing” are moral issues and are perfectly acceptable topics for any church. He said our President supports gay marriage. Is this a political statement? He said if someone asked him who he was going to vote for he said it would not be for someone that supports gay lovers and killing babies. That statement is close to being over the line but it was his views and not the churches views so it is not political. Might I add that those should be the views for any Christian that is walking into the voting booth. You can not hold up being Christian at the same time you support the legalization of sin.

Every seen someone dying of AIDS? I have, i was once a cable man in Atlanta and while working a apt complex off of North Druid hills rd i did a job for 5 black men. Only they were 5 black transvestites wearing high heels, dresses, and makeup. When i first approaced they were peeling the skin off of each others faces/ bodies on the front pourch because AIDS makes your skin fall off. Needless to say, the apt was disgusting as well. AIDS truly is Gods curse to gays, after that day i was convinced.
