We told you this morning about the curious comment that rocker Ted Nugent, a Mitt Romney fan, made at an NRA convention in St. Louis:
”If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will be either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
Here’s the context of Nugent’s remark, made in the midst of a tirade against the Obama administration and the U.S. Supreme Court:
The U.S. Secret Service, which is having problems of its own, pronounced itself curious by what exactly Nugent meant. From USA Today:
“We are aware of the situation and we’re conducting an appropriate follow up,” said Brian Leary, a Secret Service spokesman.

Billy:
President Obama has not cornered the market on serving in office while gas prices rose sharply…in other words he’s not the only president that has happened to.
Under Bush gas prices rose from $1.40 per gallon when he took office in January 2001 up to a high of $4.12 on July 7, 2008. After that, the oncoming recession & a drop in demand caused the price to collapse down to $1.61 at the end of 2008 a month after Obama won the election. By the time Obama took office in late January 2009, the price was at $1.84 per gallon.
Oil analysts have generally said that the fall down to $1.61 was an overreaction & the bottom price was “artifically low” due to the overreaction. Thus the rebound in demand along with more recent job growth amidst tensions with Iran have brought the per gallon price back up sharply.
So there is way more to the story of the price of a gallon of gasoline than a simple r.w. nutjob talking point will ever reveal.
Oh, and look it up…

People I am a white male who is from the south, who is not a racist, but Mr Obama has to be defeated in November simply based on economics and the economy. He has no clue how make our country’s economy strive again. You black people are wrong, you all are the racist voting for color and no other reasons.Obama took Carter’s throne as the worst American presidant ever and that is the legacy all black people will share. The white male is really the one who is the minority now int this country.

@Team Obama – Saying you are not a racist doesn’t mean anything. What matters is what you DO and if you have attacked a teen who had nothing but skittles in his hand then you are a racist, which pretty much all of them on here have done. You haven’t yet.
Oh wait, then you go all racist in the middle of your sentence. You are a racist. In fact, the quickest mark of a racist is when they say they aren’t one.
….”The white male is the one who is really the minority now in this country….”
Can we expel the South now, please? HELLO?! ANYONE THERE? Can we finally boot this cess pit from the rest of the nation?

Have you seen the laws ALEC is passing in placs like AZ or Montana – Kansas? Sure, many a south politician works to keep the poor white man believing he’s better off because he’s better – used to be better than blacks, now that he’s better than latinos.
But there are many intelligent southerners who should be encouraged rather than castigated for being born in the south. North Carolina has shown some signs (other than their love of tobacco) that they might overcome the gross poverty that has persisted in the region.
Many argue that government can’t get people out of poverty and, in many respects, I agree. But government can keep people in poverty by it’s acts.
The Citizens United case will make it more difficult for intelligent people to be heard over the din of manipulation by ALEC type organizations funded by self interested business concerns whose short sightedness will ultimately be their own ruin.

As our country was spiraling down to economic depths most of us have never seen in our lifetime (2007-2008), I thought the Democrats were a shoe-in to win the Presidency. With anyone. But then the choices were a black man and a white woman and I thought oh no. To no surprise, I assumed electing a black President would actually set race relations back a few years – if not decades. Logging into the ajc.com and reading all the nasty rants and raves of the southern redneck population supports that. This country’s backbone is our auto industry. GM and Chrysler should be bending over backwards in support of the current administration. Lose them, along with Ford who didn’t need bailout money, and the snowball affect of losing jobs and income would have spread throughout the US. The Dow is at the highest levels it has ever been (up from around the 7000-8000 range near the end of Bush’s presidency) and jobs and new construction are increasing. Yet all anyone in the south sees is the color of his skin. How sad your people are.

@ODUMBA – Weren’t you going somewhere? I thought you were leaving? Or are you too stupid to do anything….
@Madison – “Aaron
Have you seen the laws ALEC is passing in placs like AZ or Montana – Kansas? ”
ALEC is a Koch founded and funded organization. The Koch brothers are from Alabama and have a neoconfederate agenda.
“Sure, many a south politician works to keep the poor white man believing he’s better off because he’s better – used to be better than blacks, now that he’s better than latinos.”
At a certain point in the information age, repeated willful ignorance becomes the fault of the ignorant.
“But there are many intelligent southerners who should be encouraged rather than castigated for being born in the south. North Carolina has shown some signs (other than their love of tobacco) that they might overcome the gross poverty that has persisted in the region.”
There are. Any culture has its good and bad points, but no culture has produced such a viral meme of hate and ignorance that is doing such long lasting and permanent damage to our planet. The South is literally the source of darkness that is threatening the ENTIRE world. Furthermore, while some cultures have elements of racial or cultural superiority, retroactive history, viral ignorance and disdain for civilization and science, no other culture has them to such a high degree or are exporting them with such metastetized rates. There is no more dangerous or malignant culture on the face of the earth, including Salifi islam, the Lord’s Resistance Army, Al Queda, the Tamil Tigers or the Chinese Provincial Government in Tibet that is as just flat out NASTY as the south.
Having some areas that are blue or are moderately intelligent doesn’t undo the rest of the region.
“Many argue that government can’t get people out of poverty and, in many respects, I agree. But government can keep people in poverty by it’s acts.”
Yes, this statement is obvious to anyone not a southerner. But I *DO* agree with you.
“The Citizens United case will make it more difficult for intelligent people to be heard over the din of manipulation by ALEC type organizations funded by self interested business concerns whose short sightedness will ultimately be their own ruin.”
A case created in large part by the resurgence and dominance of neoconfederate thinking.

consider for a moment how much wealth all americans lost in 2008 between homes and stock portfolios….i have read is was more than 15-20 T other reports even higher. worldwide estimates were 50 T. yet everyone thinks this was typical recession and everything should be hunky dory in a couple of years…how long did great depression last? and while america is fighting needless wars, china is cleaning our clocks economically….what they don’t make they likely steal or clone.
but hey, obama has had 4 years. he did mess up by going after healthcare first. he and many others failed to see the depth of the recession. he should have addressed jobs, but he used politcal capital for healthcare, which ironically holds the key to us reducing/slowing debt.
had we exlected mccain we’d be figthing more, spending more and china laughing their wasses off.
and wall st and big business would be planning global movement.

Ted Nugent, who is a darling of the Right and a self-appointed spokesperson for the NRGM (the National Rights Group of Armed Maniacs), contributed nothing of lasting value to pop music in the ’70s and ’80s, and managed to stay as far away from the Vietnam War as many of the other right-wing cowards like him did who now talk tough.
Nugent is a cultural irrelevancy and a coward who could have fought for this country when it really counted like the rest of us suckers did.
