Mitt Romney begins search for running mate

The early money is on U.S. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio. From the Associated Press:

BOSTON — Mitt Romney has tapped a longtime adviser to begin his search for a vice presidential candidate.

Romney said Monday that Beth Myers is in charge of “selection and vetting and analysis.”

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, right, and Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, call eligible voters from his campaign headquarters in Charleston, S.C., prior to that state’s primary in January. AP/Charles Dharapak

“I have selected someone who has been a counselor of mine for a number of years, Beth Myers. She was my chief of staff when I was governor,” Romney said during an interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News outside Fenway Park in Boston.

Romney is moving forward as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee after rival Rick Santorum suspended his campaign last week.

Myers was Romney’s chief of staff when he was Massachusetts governor. She currently is a senior adviser on his presidential campaign.

When asked about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Romney said “he’s one of the terrific leaders in our party.”

“But I think it’s way too early to begin narrowing down who the potential vice presidential nominees might be,” he said. “But we’re beginning that process, we’ll talk about a lot of folks, and then go through the kind of vetting and review process that you have to go through to make sure whoever you select will pass the evaluation that’s required by the American people.”

Romney wouldn’t offer any hints as to when the months-long process would end.

“We do have a deadline in mind as to when I’d like to be able to reach a decision but I’m not giving you that date at this stage,” he said in the interview, adding that it would “certainly” happen before the Republican National Convention in late August.

“I don’t recall off-hand, any poll like that taken so maybe you can enlighten me.”

Of course I can enlighten you Going Right, you are a conservative, those of us on the left do this all day long here.

Question 11, “Which candidate do you think is smarter?
Barack Obama 42%
Mitt Romney 33

Of course the talking heads on Fox News didn’t mention it, the poll doesn’t feed the Fox News bias.

TD–how do you know who on this blog is an African American? Thankfully, African Americans don’t operate according to the same simplistic groupthink that you suggest. Yes, it is important that Obama is black… that does not mean that Republicans or anyone else can expect their candidates to get a free pass with the black voters just because they are of the same skin color. Alan West and all the other black republicans might as well be Chinese for all the support they’re going to get from “their” people.

The U.S.A is still the greatest country in the world because of the previous hard work of our democratic leaders. True democrats believe in spreading decision making power. Unlike republicans, we do no believe in a small segment of society crushing the voices of the majority of citizens. True democrats believe in giving ethnic minorities the maximum amount of freedom. For they can be ethnic minorities in the U.S.A, but they can also come from countries with rich histories and beautiful culture. The recent crackdown by republicans on ethnic minorities epitomizes evil. Added to this is the fact that Obama flashes a dollar bill in the air and gives African-Americans in the south an opportunity to take part in some truly disgusting behavior by ICE. For as long as republicans are in office, our destiny will be in the hands of drug-dealers, Pedophiles, thugs, prostitutes, Neo-Nazis, and Gays/Lesbians! The hard-working and classy individual will continue to be suppressed. It is time for republicans to get the EFF out of our politics. They are not above the law. They currently are the law and the legislative majority at the state and federal level. We must restore Georgia to its full potential. Puffing on a doobie has not eradicated republicans from our legislature. The whole purpose of the republican party is to divide the people. The rich already control our financial capital. That is okay. They will not and cannot, however, control the decision making power of politics. That must be left to its citizens!!!

First td proclaims:

Why is it that all the far leftest and African Americans on this blog are so opposed to Mr. West (a war hero and very articulate African American) be the VP nomination?

Then Becky shows he’s full of it by saying:

I really want Mittens to choose West. The jokes would write themselves.

Too easy.

Military Service of the GOP candidates:
Romney – zip. In his late teens and early twenties during height of Vietnam war – 3 deferments
Newt – zip.
Santorum – zip
Cain – nope (though he did work in a civilian role at the Navy Dept).
Paul – yep. Flt surgeon for USAF and ANG
Bachman – nope
Huntsman – zip.

So tell me where in the Constitution does it state that military service is required to be POTUS/CiC?

If this is the case then there is no case to be brought.

I can still hear the cries echoing through out the stadioum now: “O-Bama, O-Bama, O-Bama!” (Note: This is where the inflection “ad nauseum” was coined.

Why “He” is delivering on high gas prices? If your insipid remark refers to Jesus, he is working overtime on trying to save your and other sorry a$$es from ruin by spending the USA into bankruptcy. If, however, you refer to the Leftist’s “Savior”, he doesn’t have the intellect to figure out how to use common sense to get the economy up and running let along how to control gas prices. For all those wringing their hands over gas prices, some suggestions:
1-Sell your rolling boat and buy a fuel efficient vehicle. The US has used up just about every possible method to artificially depress fuel prices.
2-Move ‘close to work’. Only a lunatic finds commuting 40 miles a day a sane prospect.
3-Maintain your vehicle for maximum efficiency (no that doesn’t mean go to the tire store with a coupon).
4-Walk, ride a bike or better still, lean on your wrong wing House member and knuckle dragging Senator to build a real public transit system like the rest of the civilized world enjoys.

First of all the President is not my savior. You right wingers say Obama was unqualified and I say that how can you say that with someone like West. Comparing West to Dwight Eisenhower shows just how far off base you are. Eisenhower was a general who was a Supreme Allied Commander, Cheif of Staff to the Army, and I do believe President of a major university. Again not to disrespect West’s service, but his resume isn’t close to that. Every member of the military who serves 20 years is not automatically qualified to be President, if they were then it should be a consistitutional requirement to hold the office.
