Mitt Romney begins search for running mate

The early money is on U.S. Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio. From the Associated Press:

BOSTON — Mitt Romney has tapped a longtime adviser to begin his search for a vice presidential candidate.

Romney said Monday that Beth Myers is in charge of “selection and vetting and analysis.”

“I have selected someone who has been a counselor of mine for a number of years, Beth Myers. She was my chief of staff when I was governor,” Romney said during an interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News outside Fenway Park in Boston.

Romney is moving forward as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee after rival Rick Santorum suspended his campaign last week.

Myers was Romney’s chief of staff when he was Massachusetts governor. She currently is a senior adviser on his presidential campaign.

When asked about Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Romney said “he’s one of the terrific leaders in our party.”

“But I think it’s way too early to begin narrowing down who the potential vice presidential nominees might be,” he said. “But we’re beginning that process, we’ll talk about a lot of folks, and then go through the kind of vetting and review process that you have to go through to make sure whoever you select will pass the evaluation that’s required by the American people.”

Romney wouldn’t offer any hints as to when the months-long process would end.

“We do have a deadline in mind as to when I’d like to be able to reach a decision but I’m not giving you that date at this stage,” he said in the interview, adding that it would “certainly” happen before the Republican National Convention in late August.

I think Romney should pick Exxon Mobil as his running mate. Halliburton would have been a good pick but they moved off shore and are no longer American, no way Romney would risk another birther controversy. The only problem with Exxon Mobil is that they are based in Texas and Romney pretty much has that state wrapped up.

Paul Ryan is gonna stay right where he is. Much more impact as a congressman than someone whose main job is to sit around and wait for someone to die.

And while I like Ryan and respect his fiscal expertise, he just does not bring much to Romney’s table.

Alan West would be able to stand up on the national stage and call out Obama for the socialist he is and the black community could not claim racism. This is the reason the left went so hard after Herman. Can not have an African American conservative on the stage giving a view different then the entitlement worldview.

If you read my comments then you would know that I am saying that if Alan West was the VP nominated then race could not be made an issue. You know as well as I know that when a white person gets on stage and claims Obama is a failure then the first think the loony left will say is that the only reason he is saying it is because he is a racist. With West on the stage saying it then we can talk about the issues brought up and not the race card being played.

Well Republicans were willing to put Romney on the ticket, a man who according to a Fox News poll released a few days ago is not as smart as Obama.

Who is smarter Obama or Romney
Obama 42%
Romney 33%

Of course after the Republican parade of idiots, Cain, Perry, Bachmann, Santorum, and 2008 vp pick Palin, Romney is looking pretty smart for a Republican. Of course even Palin seems smart after George W Bush.

Of course race would still be an issue, just not in the way you perceive it. Alan West is the epitome of “angry black guy” and would turn off the very people you think this would entice. It’ll draw the angry white guy, but they’re already voting against Obama. It won’t help with women, Latinos, or pretty much anyone that Romney needs to win this.
