Barack Obama calls law student derided as ‘slut’ by Rush Limbaugh

Updated at 2 p.m., via the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON — The White House says President Barack Obama has called a Georgetown law student whose stand on contraception coverage prompted Rush Limbaugh to deride her as a “slut” on his radio talk show.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama called Sandra Fluke Friday and expressed disappointment that she was the subject of personal attacks….

Carney says Obama believes Limbaugh’s comments were “unfortunate attacks.” Carney calls the comments “reprehensible.”

Original: Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student called a “slut” and “prostitute” by Rush Limbaugh for her support of women’s access to birth control got a chance to talk back this morning on NBC’s “Today.” Here’s the clip:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

From the Washington Post:

Fluke, a third-year law student, testified about Georgetown’s policy on contraception during an unofficial hearing last Thursday that was led by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She argued that birth control should be covered by health insurance at religious institutions.

Pelosi arranged for Fluke to testify after she was excluded from an official congressional hearing on the contraceptive mandate in the nation’s health-care law. Republicans who ran the hearing said Fluke’s name was submitted too late (Democrats disagree). None of the women who testified at the congressional hearing spoke in favor of the mandate.

At Pelosi’s hearing, Fluke said her fellow students at Georgetown, a Jesuit university, pay as much as $1,000 a year for birth control because campus health plans do not include coverage of contraceptives for women.

“What does that make her?” Limbaugh said on his show Wednesday night. “It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.”

“She wants to be paid to have sex,” Limbaugh continued. “She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception.”

If you don’t think this has political repercussions, consider this just Tweeted by Amy Walter, political director for ABC News:

RT @mpoindc: President Obama just called Sandra Fluke in the green room before Fluke goes on @mitchellreports.

I’d be interested in hearing from Republican women on this one. In any case, please keep your comments polite, civil and clean. Many thanks.

I am a Democrat, and believe that Mr. Limbaugh’s comments were immature, rude, vile and just wrong on so many levels, regardless of where you stand on the birth control debate. To have a media forum and to spew this kind of babble is really irresponsible on his part. The debate is not about whether the contraception can be afforded but whether medical insurance should cover it as one of its prescriptive medicines, like so many, especially those that help men of Mr. Limbaugh’s age group. Very sad that he has an audience.

I agree with Rush. I might not have used those words but the truth hurts sometimes. Our society today has become a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. People are living a lie. They think they have the right to have sex with anyone they want, they don’t have to get married and others who want to get married are of the same sex. People are raising children these days without any moral guidance. STD’s are rampant and out of control. Soon no drugs will be able to help STD’s and yet we have a young lady here who wants the government to continue to pay for her relationships. I hope and pray one day, we will return to the great days this Country had when young girls and boys waited til they were married to engage in sex. This is just another example on what direction our Country is headed.

Rush Limbaugh is no different than Howard Stern. He’s a talk show host who’s paid to get ratings. Why can’t people see that? He takes what he believes and puts it on the air because someone pays him. I’m sure he believes what he says, but who cares? Unfortunately, some think anything he says is correct and factual. I think people gave him the benefit of the doubt when he turned out to be illegally abusing drugs – he just doesn’t do the same for other people. I am suspect of anyone who says they’re a fan of his.

She wants me (the taxpayer) to pay for her birth control. I think not. Is she a slut? No. Is she a leech on society? Yes!
Memo to to you Ms. Fluke, birth control pills at your local WalMart are about $10 a month. If you can afford about $45,000 a semester in tuition at Georgetown Law, you can afford $120 a year to keep having sex. If you cannot afford that much money I recommend you stop trying to get laid. Otherwise get out of my pockets.

The culture has declined because of “women” like this Fluke “lady” who expect WE THE PEOPLE to fund debaucherous activity. Feminazis have no place in the conversation when it comes to discussing the sanctity of life. Mr. Limbaugh is not a “showman.” He’s a man who isn’t afraid to speak the truth. Contraception is not a “health care need,” pure and simple. You naive liberal Democrat members need to get a clue.

On another note- it’s too bad that Rush lost his hearing due to his overindulgence of pain medication because I’m sure if he heard how idiotic this came across.
And furthermore- if she can afford to go to Georgetown law, I’m pretty sure she can find the money for her birth control pills.

Condoms are $1 a piece. Even a person with a sex addiction should not use more than 30 a month, which brings us to $360 dollars a year, where does she get to $1000.00 a year. I hear birth control pills are $5-9 per month at Walmart or $108 per year. I don’t remember anyone else paying for my wife’s pills or my condoms, so what gives her the gall to ask us to pay for hers.

As Rush says, where does it stop. Do we also buy the wine, the dinner, and the KY Jelly for this “lady”.

Don’t comprehend the multitude of illnesses and conditions TREATED with contraceptive drugs.

As a Republican, I think Rush went too far with the comments. He’s not my favorite… Regardless, if you want to have sex, it is “your” responsibility to 1. protect your self from disease and 2. guard against pregnancy if that is your choice.

Condom cost $1.
$1000 per year to buy condoms equals $2.73 per day or for her to have sex almost 3 times per day for a year. If you take away the days each month when she gets “the visitor then the number rises to 3.27 times per day. I am sure this is all with the same guy.

With those facts in hand then what else would you call this young lady?

This goes along with everything that is wrong with our society. As a responsible adult female, I have always paid for my own contraception. Responsibility is the word here people. You play you pay. In fact, I bet her parents are very proud of her–an articulate young woman who understands that “the pill” is in fact a health care option for women for a myriad of health issues in addition to contraception. Since no one else is making the connection, may I point out that women don;t get pregnant by themselves? What are Limbaugh’s comments for the guys?

Looking at her picture...

I hear birth control pills are $5-9 per month at Walmart or $108 per year.

Amazing how many men are suddenly experts at procuring birth control pills. How about I prescribe your course of treatment for prostate enlargement? We can whack that thing out for under $2000, I’m not paying a dime more just because you want to have sex. Anything else you can pay for it yourself.

Have you priced contraceptives? On average they can cost $30/mth. It could be that there are some that cost more. And contraceptions are just for birth control. But I wouldn’t expect you to know or care about that since you just want to call this woman the same names that Rush did.

Rush Limbaugh is doing this for ratings 1st, but also 2nd, because he (just like the majority of men in the US) has no clue How or What birth control is used for.

First, Rush, unlike your Viagra (which no doubt is covered under your insurance) birth control pills must be taken 365 days a year in order to work correctly. It takes a whole month for it to start working effectively. Even the Rings out there must be used each month to ensure the meds are working correctly. Your little blue pills that you pop when you feel like it? God, we women WISH we could do the same. But that’s not how it works. Also, if you take the pill for the myriad of PMS, acne, and other medical treatments -it too MUST be used 365 days a year. And married women use it too -so they aren’t the baby factories that families like the Duggars are.

So you do the math, Rush. That’s a pack of pills each month. My insurance barely covered it and I was paying $60 out of pocket each month -whether I was sexually active or not. That’s not cheap by any means. And if you miss one little pill? Welcome to break thru bleeding for 2 days.

But the biggest hypocrisy going on here? Rush’s 36 year old wifey seems to not be preggers. So my educated guess is that she’s either on the pill herself or maybe she’s told his greasy fat butt that they’re not having sex… ever.
