Marco Rubio’s youthful encounter with Mormonism

The chances of U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., becoming Mitt Romney’s vice presidential pick for a GOP ticket just got complicated. A stunner from Buzzfeed:

In the compelling personal narrative that has helped propel Florida Senator Marco Rubio to national political stardom, one chapter has gone completely untold: Rubio spent his childhood as a faithful Mormon.

Rubio was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his family at around the age of eight, and remained active in the faith for a number of years during his early youth, family members told BuzzFeed.

Rubio spokesman Alex Conant confirmed the story to BuzzFeed, and said Rubio returned to the Catholic church a few years later with his family, receiving his first communion on Christmas day in 1984 at the age of 13.

What, Mitt Romney will hate him b/c his parents took him to an LDS church for awhile and then they joined a Catholic church?

This is absurd.

Rubio won’t get the VP nod because all the birthers say he’s not eligible to be President. Don’t believe me? Google, is Marco Rubio eligible to be president? and you’ll see all these right wing sites that are anti Rubio. Romney is not going to wade into that mess

Another liberal non-story told with baited breath. Absolutely NOTHING compelling about an 8 year old being baptized into a Church he knows nothing about. Same for a 13 year old being brainwashed into another Church.

It only counts what an adult believes and even then the childhood patterned biases still often hold some sway, but sometimes evolve during middle age.

td, if you are here – my answer to your questions in the blog item before this: Yes, Romney will get a large hunk of former Gingrich supporters when he finally exits the race. True, he will not get the majority of evangelicals and Catholics – but they are not even a majority of Gingrich’s supporters. Huckabee was a lot more anti-Romney (really anti-Mormon) than either Santorum or Gingrich. Huckabee had no chance of being nominated – similar to present day Santorum and Gingrich. He got McCain nominated, though, by blocking Romney.

Liberals aren’t scrutinized by the lamestream media with regard to their religious beliefs because it’s generally understood, and accepted, that libs have none.

And they’re proud of it.

God, please help us.

And BTW, it’s not lost that this blog specializes in hit pieces on GOP candidates and religion in general. So far–just this week–we’ve learned that Baptists are bad, Southern Baptists are really bad, Franklin Graham is bad, and now Marco Rubio is bad. And of course Mitt Romney has always been bad.

The Secular Left Media and their followers may be ungodly but they are highly predictable.

Rubio’s only at second base at this point with this religion thing. He needs to convert Jewish, then Islamic for the home run, grand slam or whatever those Republinuts require. He might need a name change however to appeal to the base. Rubinstein perhaps? Probably not.

If it’s a religion discussion then what I want to know is…..if the Islamic radicals have a death warrant for the pastor that converted from Islam to Christianity then why don’t they have a death warranet for Obama? After all he was raised muslim and attended a muslim school in Indonesia (only muslims can attend muslim schools) but later in his life he then says he converted to Christianity. So what is different about Obama and this Pastor in Iran they want to murder?

I’m an atheist, but see the veiled (and some not so veiled) attacks on Catholics, Baptists, Mormons, Protestants are gross biases. Santorum leads with his chin when he takes extreme political stands based on his religious dogma, but Rubio hasn’t done so at least as of yet. Romeny doesn’t. ALL religions have been extreme at one point or the other – Christians exacted a lot of revenge in the 4th century for what the Romans did to them, and the Catholic Church did not have a sense of humor during the 16th century Inquisition. It is way past time to look at the individual rather than the religion he was born into.

“selby”– Drop the troublesome, misleading “humor”.

I recently refuted those who take “Judge not…” out of context when I refuted the heretical, contemporary, hip-hop, blasphemous state of what many have the audacity to call the “Christian Church”. I learned tonight that some “churches” even have breweries and tattoo parlors. Folks, this nonsense is blasphemous, and yes, I’m judging. I’m not taking one verse out of context, and because the “Christian Church” is tolerant and willfully stupid like this, we’re in trouble.

Read the Bible. When God speaks of healing a land upon its return to Him, He’s referring to Christians predominantly. As sorry and barbaric as Planned Parenthood, et al, is, at least they’re not hypocrites. The “Christian Church” is paving the way for them.

“theresa”– Shut up with your blasphemy, you trashy individual. By the way, if you live like Mother Teresa, you’ll go to Hell. She was no Christian.

http://www.sonliferadio.org This ministry is one of the few sound ones in the world. They’re speaking now about Islamic propaganda that’s infiltrating our nation, i.e. the myth that Muslims founded this nation. This “peace” that Muslims promote is nothing but their being willing to back off if we accept their agenda, and they’re perfectly willing to use force to promote it. Every faith but Christianity is false, and Islam is the the worst and most-promoted of the false faiths. I’m tired of how society and our “educational” system promotes it, just like it never in a million years would admit that Karl Marx was a satanist.

Seriously, someone get these two slutty liars off here. Freedom of speech doesn’t apply to their trashy comments.

Might not be back on here tonight. Don’t confuse any silence with my conceding anything you say.

Last night’s debate was excellent–per what I’m hearing so far (halfway through it). Obama is such a piece of trash. These guys, sans Ron Paul, are incredibly better than him, and Paul is still better. Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum are stratospheres ahead of him character- and education-wise.

Leave Gingrich alone, you hypocritical Clinton-supporters. You defend infidelity if it’s your non-repentant guy but attack Gingrich, who is repentant. You people are the scum of the earth.

As for fairy tales, you prejudiced, perverted liar, Christianity is the truth (not “a” truth), and by the way, get some education. Christianity and Catholicism are separate faiths. If you want fairy tales, view evolution, postmodernism, relativism, pluralism, the idea that contraceptives are moral/effective when they’re neither, the idea that abortion isn’t murder/is justifiable, the theory that homosexuality is normal and that such a marriage is constitutional.

Also, world, let’s quit promoting unity through diversity. No such peace exists.

After nearly four years of that sorry excuse for a human being in Washington, Romney’s amazing performance at the debate last night was that much more refreshing. He’ll dominate the incumbent in a debate so badly that our president will hide behind the podium—-so well that we’ll find his birth certificate before him.
